Chapter 30: Asgard

It had been a wonderful and sometimes rainy two days in London that Elise and Marie had spent with Molly Hooper. They had even had lunch with John Watson and Sherlock Holmes! Though the lunch had been called short due to a case involving a decapitated man in Clapham Common. Elise had wanted to go with, but Marie had held her back. Instead, they'd let Molly run in to work to check on some samples that Sherlock wanted while they went for a walk in Greenwich Park.

"So what you're telling me is that you automatically get a deeper voice when you become an orphan?" Marie asked skeptically.

"Yeah! Exactly! I mean just think about it! Bruce Wayne, Sam and Dean Winchester, Clark Kent…"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah! What about Peter Parker? He's normally portrayed as having a regular voice."

"Well he's just a kid!"

"I think your logic is flawed," Marie rolled her eyes as she continued walking.

"Well…" Elise struggled to come up with a comeback. "Your face is flawed!" she finally burst out which resulted in them both laughing.

When their laughing fit was over, Elise straightened and looked around. There was a familiar aroma in the air and her nose was following it. "Mmm… coffee!" she said as she began moving toward the cart.

"Gross!" Marie shot back, but Elise ignored her and began walking quickly towards the coffee vendor.

However it was at that moment that the air seemed to ripple and suddenly Elise and Marie were no longer standing in Greenwich Park. Instead they stood on the end of what looked to be a rainbow bridge that extended out for a ways towards a magnificent sparkling city with tall towers and clean shiny buildings. "Whoa…" Marie said after a second.

"Where…" Elise trailed off.

"Asgard, my ladies," a deep voice behind them answered the unasked question.

The two jumped around to see a tall man with golden eyes wearing golden armor and a helmet with two horns coming out of the top. He held a large sword casually with both hands, the tip resting against the floor of the roundish building that seemed to be where the rainbow bridge ended. "How…?" Elise trailed off again, not taking her eyes from the strange tall man before them.

He smiled a little before explaining. "Most likely t'was a portal that accidentally brought you here. With the convergence so near, the barriers between the realms are quite thin."

"Huh…" Marie muttered. "And you are?"

"Heimdall."

"Huh…" Marie muttered again.

The three stood looking at each other for what seemed a long time before Marie spoke again. "So… is Lady Sif around?"

"She is in the palace," Heimdall nodded toward the gleaming buildings in the distance.

"Wanna explore?" Marie smiled.

"Um… shouldn't we be worried about getting back to Earth?"

"Nah! Heimdall will send us back! Come on!" Marie started to walk out on the bridge and Elise turned to follow except that the portal activated and the air rippled again. The next moment they were back in Greenwich Park. "Damnit!" Marie shouted, startling a flock of nearby pigeons.
