Chapter 2: Hunter vs Huntress
If Tuk had learned anything from her parents, it was sure as hell how to defend herself and those she loved most. In this very moment it was herself that she had to defend. It had all happened so quick, one minute she was praying over her meal, the next she was in her defense pose, holding her knife backwards ready to attack. She hissed and he hissed back, Tuk didn't like that and instantly went over to him, tackling him to the ground. Now she knew Eywa did not like Na'vi fighting their own kind, but in this particular situation she felt it was necessary.
He wasn't just Na'vi though, well he was, but a Na'vi she had never seen before. His skin was gray like blue. Lighter than she had ever seen before. His hair was an ashy gray and it wasn't braided like most Na'vi. His queue was wrapped around one long strand of hair, again an ash color. Most Na'vi she knew had deep yellow eyes, but his, his were blue, a bright blue with a hint of white. 3 fingers and his toes were definitely that of a Na'vi. She had seen species amongst species but nothing like this before. If he hadn't been so rude and attacked her, she would actually admit he was rather beautiful and he wore a lot of purple, Tuk loved purple.
The pair scrambled on the floor, hissing, fighting like cats before she had managed to pin him to the ground and hold him there with her knife to his throat. Hissing at him, he let out a slight grin. "Eywa must think twice before allowing you a place within her." He said with a grin. Tuk just rolled her eyes at his annoying words.
"Skawng." She said simply, before standing up and walking to the dead animal. He stood up too, brushing himself off.
"What are you doing?" He asked, with an arched brow bone.
"Taking my dinner home." She muttered simply, stubborn like her mother.
"I think you will find that was my kill." He said simply going to grab it but she moved it quickly.
"And you will find that it was my arrow that ended my life. It is I who prayed for Eywa…therefore it is mine." Tuk told him simply, she did not have an impressed look on her face. He just laughed sarcastically.
"It is my trap that keeps the prey still." He said simply, referring to its ankle that had a clamp on it.
"Such sinful ways to kill. It is not the Na'vi way." She told him firmly, cutting the trap loose from the animal's ankle.
"Just as sinful as holding a knife to the throat of a fellow Na'vi." He said simply.
"You annoy me." She said going to turn away, but he grabbed her arm and she instantly hit him, much like Neytiri did with Jake the first night of their meeting.
"That animal is coming with me!" He told her.
"You'll have to kill me first." She hissed.
"I don't have any problem with that." He said with a grin, standing back up.
"You are not Na'vi, you are worse than the demons from the sky." she hissed once more.
He laughed at her words and took a step closer to her. "In my culture if someone comes to a disagreement, it must go under trial with the Kutawato." he told her simply. "Since you are in my territory, it is only fair that you respect my culture."
"The Kuta what now?!" She asked with furrowed brows, sarcasm written all over her face, she was much like her father.
He laughed at her pronunciation, "Kutawato…" He repeated correctly. "My people, my clan."
"Well I am not one of your people, so I will not be attending your silly little trial." She said simply.
"To disrespect the culture and traditions of a Na'vi is to sin against the great mother in the most unspeakable way. Outcast." He told her knowing the punishment for going against cultures, well in his culture anyway. She clenched her jaw and rolled her eyes.
"Ugh fine, take me to your stupid tribe." She said simply, walking ahead of him. "What's a girl gotta do to eat?" She mumbled to herself.
"You're going the wrong way." He called her, he enjoyed winding her up.
"Skwang." She said in a scoff before following him.
After what felt like a good hour or two, they finally arrived in the shadows. "Stay clear from the shadows, the place where Eywa's light does not shine." That's all she could hear in her head. Her mother's warnings.
"Mind your step." He said simply as they climbed down into the ground.
"I got it." She said bluntly, she was concerned but so curious. Before she knew it, it was so dark. "I can't see anything." She told him. His eyes however had lit up a beautifully white light. "Woah." She mumbled, looking at him.
"The Kutawato, my people, we are people of the caves." He said simply. "Our eyes are built for the darkness, we can only be in daylight for short periods of time before our eyes begin to hurt, that is why we hunt in the evening." The told her.
"I didn't even know cave people existed." She told him honestly, as she walked carefully behind him.
"Now you do." He said again simply, before continuing to walk. What she saw next was something more beautiful that she could have ever imagined.
The dark underground tunnels led to a beautiful cave opening. A cave that was constantly lit up with bioluminescent glows. There were people living within the walls of the cave, like the people had mined huge holes in the wall and created shelter. It had areas of beach like islands and water surrounding. Different parts of the cave had different terrains, waters like Awa'atlu and forests like her hometree. Each part of the cave represented Tuk's childhood, every home she had been in all in one place. Beautiful bioluminant flora and trees were growing upwards towards the sky. This was like nothing she had seen before.
It was only at that moment she realized the Kutawato clan members had begun following her in curiosity, whispering, eyeing her up, looking at her. It made sense why they were so ash-like. As if they had just had soot thrown all over them. They didn't get sunlight. Yes there were cracks in the cave which allowed some sunlight in, but nothing that could ever affect them. Tuk couldn't even focus on the people watching her because she was so taken back by this beauty - there was nothing dark about it. Though she got the vibe that these people were not the typical Na'vi type.
"Who dare enters our home?!" A voice echoed through the cave. Tuk's ears perched slightly, it was intimidating. The male smirked and looked at her, leading her through shallow waters and to a huge dome made from rock. Covered in purple flora and gold leaves. All she could think was how strange it was that all this flora could grow without sunlight. The male took a knee as they reached the front and looked up at her.
"You may want to take a knee." He told her. Tuk looked at him and rolled her eyes before doing exactly what she said, before a large male stepped out of the dome, a male she could only assume was the clan's Olo'eyktan. She swallowed hard as she watched him approach. A woman following behind him, who could only be the clan's Tsahik. It was only at this moment that she was very concerned.
