Chapter 18 "The Draculina"
Author Note: I don't tend to leave many notes on these anymore but I seriously am sorry for the long wait for this chapter and the fact that it isn't that long. I was just kind of stuck when it came to this part, I am a fan of exciting, gripping cliffhangers at the end of chapters so I just had to end it like this. Please don't get mad~ I'm free from school so I will have no excuse to not write now!
Katsuye began wailing and crying incoherently on her knees as she gripped her lower abdomen. "You die!" She screamed before throwing her weapon and babbling. I turned to Zorin and saw her smirk before her arm touching the floor flexed and she disappeared. I didn't know it but in a few moments I started to cry and scream as loud as Katsuye and Zorin picked up her blade.
Integra stood by Kirisuto standing guard, unaware that pitch black eyes watched her from every blotch of darkness.
I saw it all happen again, my father and mother being murdered as I hid in the walk-in closet. I covered my mouth to smother my screams as I heard them say talked about how my dad had it coming. Had it coming!? No...he was being a good officer of the law and helped people who were being exploited with insatiable loans, extortion, drug abuse and human trafficking. He saved hundreds of lives by taking down the leaders of a nasty gang of freaks! Unlike me...who couldn't even prevent her team from dying, who was killed because I was too scared to even fight back. My father died on the floor and his dead wife was molested by his murderer, they shot his daughter and yet...he was a better person than I am. I took forever to be a cop and sucked at it, everyone was right. The other orphans in the home, my teachers...even my sergeant...I'm a failure. I'm doomed coward , I'm going to hell for being too afraid to die...I don't want this, but I was scared. That should enough right? I did nothing wrong...I was just weak...like always! Like how I was too slow and let Pip die...the only normal person who got close enough to make me laugh. "Pip..." I cried out as I sobbed from being attacked in my mind by my greatest fears and nightmares.
Zorin laughed and steadily approached the women with her scythe in hand and her grin grew. "These two are as weak as the rest! How funny that the most competent fighters I faced so far had the most fragile minds I've ever seen. It's hilarious!" She said with a throaty laugh before getting beside Seras, speaking into her ear as she moved the blade of her scythe under her neck. "You are a disgrace to true warriors like me, you are a true vampire, but you are also a weak, pathetic woman. Your existence is an insult to mine." She spat out aggressively as she sat up straight and tensed her muscles, ready to decapitate Seras. She swiped and instead cut out her eyes before she kicked her exposed back. Seras remained silent, having already screamed enough from her mental torment.
I was seated against a small wall that jutted out to form a small compartment between the hallway and the door to the staircase. From here I could hear if someone came from across the hallway or quickly kill any who entered through the stairway. I was thankful that Kirisuto was seated in the corner or else he'd be exposed, at least he thought ahead about that. I saw the lights dim and stood up, ready in case something was going on. I had been steadily feeling more tension build in the air for some reason. So I was already creeped out but the flickering lights just added to my anxiety. I was beside a small table with a candlestick on it so I wasn't worried about losing the ability to see, I was just...really afraid of the lights going out for some reason. As I thought over the reason I was scared the lights started to go out, I only noticed because I heard a large sound that resembled a door slam as the light panels deactivated. At the opposite end of the hall, the lights started to turn off, each sound sounding louder than the last. As the final light went out over my head, I swore I could see a figure standing inches from me…
I swung into the darkness with my fist, out of fear and instinct. It looked like a male teen of some sort, but I wasn't sure. I backed up and sat beside Kirisuto, holding my breath and my pistol up. It was silent, nothing. I could hear nothing, not even the air conditioner pump out air or footsteps. I could only see about a foot from my body so I made sure I could see Kirisuto by sitting beside him...and because I needed the comfort. How did I become like this? A grown woman afraid of the dark, no...unnaturally traumatized by the dark. I grabbed the crucifix that hung from the neck and started to mutter a small prayer, I got a bit louder to gather confidence, anyone in the dark could see me in the candlelight. I was the only thing that could be seen in the room so whatever was out there wanted me to do something. I mind as well ask for help before I did something. "Who is there?" She asked before she noticed a boy step into the outermost fringes of the dark, barely illuminated. Then another couple of boys, the occasional girl, a teen or two...we were surrounded. I hefted the gun up and took aim. "Speak, leave or die! Don't fuck with me! What do you want?" She exclaimed a bit shaken. "We are scared..." One said. "Lost too..." Another quietly dictated. "...help us. It's so cold out here, put out the light and we can be warm." A little girl said, her voice unnaturally even for her age. She spoke too well for a child. I swallowed hard, I had no idea what they are.
"No. Leave. I don't give a damn if you're cold, you're trespassing. This is my home, go get a damn blanket." I exclaimed as I stood up hesitantly. One boy hissed and got a bit closer into the light, now I could see...they weren't too far away so I couldn't see their features. The boy's eyes were solid black, as dark as his hair and the complete opposite of his bone-white skin. He was so pale the dark practically saturated his body and made him hard as hell to see. I covered my mouth and leaned back as far as I could against the wall. She fired at the boy and it had no effect, it just went through him. "Give us your warmth." The boy growled and I shook my head no. "Never!" The well-versed girl hissed, I then noticed none of their expressions changed at all, even when they seemed angry. The girl looked directly at me, right into my eyes and opened her mouth. Her face was like a mask made of clay, a seam formed along the edges of her lips and her skin that was connecting her cheeks to her lips was ripped as she opened her mouth to an unfathomable degree. She had ragged black teeth behind her ruptured skin and she bore them at me angrily. "We want your warmth, your life! Death is too cold…" She exclaimed, her vocal cords writhing around in her throat as she spoke. I shot her in the face and torso multiple times, but they had no effect. "Your weapons damage humans, animals and unholy beasts. They do nothing against the should, your weapons are made from nature while we are an element of nature, we are a constant of life. Light, darkness, gravity, and life are unable to be killed. You can do nothing but wait for the candle to extinguish and die."
I open my eyes, they are a muddled olive with elliptical pupils and they focus on the black eyed children. I can see them clear as day and my lips become a straight line as I concentrate. I press all five of the fingers of my left hand together and press the tips against the center of my outstretched hand. "Leave us alone. I felt something was off since I got to the manor…it was you all wasn't it? Then that means you want me, not Integra so let the woman go and I'll let one of you live in exchange." I threatened. They hissed in response and the rest of the monsters opened her "mouths." Light began to expel from where my fingers met my hand.
A gunshot sounded in the hallway and Zorin hissed in pain before she clutched the gory mess that was once her shoulder. She turned her head and looked to Pip, he bore a deep cut in his chest and had fired his revolver at Zorin, "Wake up, Seras!" He yelled before he fired again at Zorin to buy the woman more time.
I was sitting, drowning in my own negative thoughts when saw Pip materialized before me. In his stupid pink T-shirt that he wore when we met the Queen of England of all people. "Pip…?" I asked and he didn't speak, he just looked at me, concerned. He started to bleed and grunt in pain. "I need you, Seras." He said and caused my eyes to widen. "...to help me fight…" He continued, which caused my eyes to gain a downcast tint. "Of course...I'm only a kickstand to things that are more talented and useful than me. Like my servitude to Sir Integra...or Mast-...Alucard. That's all I am!" I yelled, but he didn't respond, as if he was a recording made earlier, just meant to send a message. "...and because I don't want to lose you. You are such a good, kind-hearted girl that we all vowed to protect you. You're worth the effort, so please don't give up, its all bullshit! She shows you what happened and who you were then, but who are you now? A monster? A vampire? Police girl!?" He yelled and I snickered.
I recovered and crushed outermost flesh to my wound closed to seal the bullet hole for a while. I sprinted past the brown haired girl and would need to pass the pitiful heap of vampire to reach the damned man that shot me. I didn't care about what shit he yelled to the weakling, he hurt her and deserved death. "I am…" I heard to my right before something gripped my right ankle hard enough to break in seconds.
I didn't gauge my strength well so I had to grab onto Zorin's pant leg to pull her face first into the ground. I then hopped up with one arm and elbowed her in the back which was lucky since I can't see anymore...I am blinded from her blade. She yelled out before she elbowed me in the face. Pip went to fire again but was out of bullets so he pulled his empty AK assault rifle from his back sprinted forward to smack Zorin with the mass of wood and steel. He smacked her hard on the back of the head as she tried to chop my head off with a guillotine-like motion. She leaned forwards, I heard her swing the scythe and stepped so she faced away from me, her scythe blade had impaled Pip through the chest. I cried out and Pip just gasped before he collapsed, I felt metal touch my fingers and knew immediately that he slid his revolver to my hand. I pulled it up and shot at Zorin repeatedly until I heard her drag her scythe behind her as she retreated around the corridor with a curse. "G-good job…Seras…" Pip said softly.
I felt tears start to sting my eyes as I held Pip up against the wall, "Pip…can-….you-…I'm sorry." I shakily said as I rubbed my closed eyes and bit my lip, I refused to sigh though. "Don't cry over a man like me, this is my job after all….to kill for pocket change and die. I…I was just happy I died for two girls like you and the oriental girl in the end." Pip muttered I heard him try to move but stop. "Ah forget it…I would hate to steal your first kiss and all anyway." He said with a groan and chuckle before he started to choke, I rubbed his upper chest a bit and he stopped. He laughed softly, "you…aren't going to die here, Seras." He said and I listened a bit more intently. "Take it…" He started before I started to interrupt, "I can't…you know that, Pip." I said with a voice that was shaky from the torrent of emotions I felt all bitter and dark. "No, you can. If you don't drink all you can then you definitely will die! This bitch is just one goon and there's bound to be even more powerful enemies on the way to the Nazi bastard at the top. Drink." He ordered before pulling my face closer to his neck using the back of my neck. I kissed him on the lips, causing him to laugh before I spoke softly, "I'm sorry for acting like an ass the whole time. I really like you Pip…" I said before I bit his neck, my large, sharp teeth cut into his jugular vein and felt his blood start to flood down my throat, I gulped every mouthful as fast as it entered my mouth. I kept drinking and felt my own shed blood start to flow back into my body, it caused my lost flesh and organs to regenerate until I pulled my lips away and cracked my jaw. I turned and looked at Zorin who looked at me with a confused expression with my newly formed eyes and growled. I barely felt when the darkness itself congealed around the wound that formed when my arm was sliced off and formed a limb that resembled the black flames Kirisuto formed to kill a vampire. I molded my new appendage into a clawed arm and let out a violent roar, throwing a bit of bloodstained spittle into the air and charged, as a true Draculina as Seras Victoria.
