Chapter 21 "Kindred Spirits"
Author Note: So...usually I'd have a long explanation of why I haven't updated. I honestly have just had trouble with motivation to do anything lately. Though I seem to have had a resurgence of life lately. I will be continuing this semi-regularly. Thank you all for reading this. I hope you enjoy this chapter as well.
So…I've been fighting for a long time. Been training since I was like five, made ANBU at around 12 and from there I fought on battlefields almost every day for years. So how the hell could I have thought that all these Nazi bastards would stay in the main square where Alucard was slaughtering them and not run away. Also, how could I not think, "hey you know what'd suck…? If a retreating crazed group of vampires ran right into a sexy dude that may have killed quite a few of their friends. I better be stealthy to avoid that. " Apparently, I'm a little dense because now I'm dodging gunfire across rooftops.
While accurate, it was pretty easy to avoid getting hit until the Nazis started to break out their bolt-action rifles and put those vampiric "third eye" abilities to good use. I had to do acrobatic flips and start running on all fours to avoid getting hit. I wanted to hurry up and finish off those monsters so I could help Kat and Seras but I can't waste my energy here dodging bullets. I hadn't eaten in a while and felt a bit tired. I also couldn't waste any more chakra on a flashy Jutsu to take out eight measly vampires. "So I got to kill y'all don't I," I muttered to myself. I dived behind a brick chimney on a rooftop and drawing two kunai from my leg pouch. "My mother raised a punctual lad, guys, and you're fucking up that reputation," I exclaimed angrily. They yelled back but I was too busy to listen. I plucked a small sturdy container, a dead drop spike, from the heel of my boot and careful unlocked it. Then I pulled out a small piece of paper in a plastic wrapper. I always keep a dead drop spike on me in case I need to communicate with Kat but we can't meet. The explosive is a paper bomb, a piece of adhesive paper imbued with chakra in a way that it explodes when given a chakra current. After removing the packaging, I hurriedly wrapped the bomb around the handle of one knife.
My mother's clan, the Uchiha, were quite famous for their Sharingan, fire Jutsu and for being murderous scum. However, they were also well-known for their skill in Shurikenjutsu, throwing weapon techniques. My mother was quite proficient in it and drilled the use of kunai and shuriken into me at a young age. I nicked myself a lot but today, I am thankful for it. I grasped each kunai by the handle in a loose grip between my fore, middle and ring fingers before I flicked my wrist. I released my first kunai with this flick in an arc. It flew to my right in a straight line, in the completely wrong direction from the vampires. They started to laugh. I gave a small smirk in return as I moved my wrist back a fraction of an inch before flinging the second knife with the explosive tag towards the knife falling in midair at a low angle. The explosive knife was reflected off the flat of the first blade before coming to a stop at the feet of the vampires. The one closest to the blade gasped before laughing when he realized he wasn't cut. Then he noticed the paper wrapped around the handle of the blade spark.
The explosion killed all but one of the soldiers, a sniper on a higher roof. The sniper's pale face froze in fear before a crazed grin spread across it. He must've seen me as a challenge, someone who could give him a noble death. I imagine his grin became a silent scream when I slammed another kunai into his spine and severed it. His body shuddered as I yanked the blade free and his corpse turned to ash. I looked to the shadow clone I left behind the chimney before I dispelled it. Turned out he just stared at my clone with a shocked expression before his features melted away to reveal a black skull. After jumping on a particularly high roof I could see the tree line near the edge of this section city, the tree line that hid the Hellsing Estate a good kilometer behind it. I searched for the kunai I used to bounce off the explosive knife for a moment before I moved on. I was going into a fight with a near-empty kunai pouch, little chakra, no shuriken and only one sword. "Ain't the worst set up I've had to deal with." I reasoned to myself as I sprinted along the rooftops.
Back with the Ladies
I have never considered myself as lucky, I'm a test tube baby freak experiment that's half-mammal and half-reptile. I look pretty disgusting, at least I think so, when I don't cast an illuJutsury jutsu to hide my scaly skin. Plus, I'm freakishly tall compared to the average human female. I also can become a giant, horrific serpent that spits out acid like a monster and I hate that about me too. But…I do think I'm lucky to have met Kiri, he rescued me when he was just a kid and was going through hell himself. Then he took me in as his summon, a friend and even lets me sleep beside him for warmth. Which is very very meaningful since he is a huge prude. I'm cold-blooded so it's hard for me to stay warm at night, particularly when I'm in a cool room. Unfortunately, cold rooms happen to be exactly where Kiri likes to sleep but he makes up for that by being a good heater.
My dear Kiri also was uncharacteristically chivalrous when he decided to draw away all the stray soldiers in a five block radius by leaping from roof to roof like mad on his way to his objective. I swear Kiri can be so intelligent and mature at moments that it's scary and other times he is incredibly dense and emotional. My internal commentary was interrupted when the tall woman with red eyes was ordered by Integra to do something. The red eyes creature then went to scoop up the more petite blonde but the petite woman refused to be seized in such a way. I wanted to scoff at such a meaningless reason to be annoying, status and posturing didn't help in a battle except for when you are ducking for cover or preparing to take a blow. I clicked my tongue and Miso stepped up in front of me slightly and looked at me with a slight head tilt to the side. "Mi-chan, mind getting a bit bigger so petite-sama can ride you?" I asked with an unamused tone to hide my rudely worded request from my allies. Miso let out a hyena-like laugh noise as he got into a stance that resembled a dog trying to intimidate someone. He then barked and his size doubled then quadrupled after a noticeable delay. Miso was the size of a small horse now and yipping excitedly at the older woman.
I then performed a slightly over the top bow, welcoming the noble onto Miso. Integra scoffed before she got on the fox's back while Seras just grinned with a chuckle. I couldn't understand what sounded like a quip from the vampire so I shrugged back in return. Seras frowned and closed her eyes while making overdramatic crying noises, leaning on Integra's shoulder. I sighed and tried to motion that I didn't speak her language. Seras was just like Kiri…well…she's similar. Kiri seemed to only know how to react to everything as dramatically as possible. Integra yelled and Seras quit messing around, nodding after receiving her orders. Seras then ran to the edge of the rooftop and started heading somewhere. Miso, with Integra clinging to him, and I followed the vampire. She was very fast, perhaps even as fast as Kiri when using sage or Bijuu chakra. I could barely keep up with the younger woman. She looked to be a year or two my junior but her figure seemed to be in good shape like my own. Lithe and well equipped for dexterity. Seras stopped suddenly and pointed up into the sky. My eyes shot open wide as we came to a stop on the edge of where larger homes met a block of smaller houses. The sky was lightly thinned in a brilliant orange from the burning city but the light barely penetrated the dark horizon. The sky was cloudy, no doubt on the verge of raining, and the chaos around had distracted me. A large balloon looking object was approaching before it quickly started to descend, crushing the smaller structures. Seras shared a look with Integra before they descended to the ground and cautiously approached. As we got closer I noticed there was a larger structure jutting out of the bottom of the balloon, that must've been where the vehicle's crew was. The enemy. I tightened my fists, "Miso. You can stop now and let her off." I said quietly while I kept an eye on our surroundings. Miso nodded silently before lowering his head and shoulders so Integra could get off easier. He righted himself before he got down low and growled savagely. I turned to follow his gaze and noticed two figures were on a rooftop behind me. "Good afternoon, ladies!" Said the shorter figure in a high pitched but masculine voice. Once my eyes focused I could see it was a male teen and a large man, with most of his body obscured my a heavy coat. "We were expecting Sir Integra but not the extra baggage, please head inside, Ma'am. We will treat your friends nicely!" Schrodinger said in a heavy accent. Seras looked to Integra with a concerned expression but Integra didn't let her worry. "I will talk to head maniac then. Play nice." She said haughtily before heading inside the building.
Schrodinger and the Captain looked down at the two women and fox with contrasting eyes. Schrodinger's eyes were filled with sadistic mirth and the Captain's were analyzing them with an aloof gaze. I looked to Seras for permission to strike. She nodded as her eyes went from being carefree with round pupils to aggressive with slitted pupils. Now that was familiar. I drew a kunai with my left hand. These two didn't look tough but taking into account that every single one of Millennium's foot soldiers was strong, these two had to be more than they seemed. "Miso, I'm going to blind them." She said before motioning to Seras. Miso ran up to Seras and yanked on her pant leg before running away, Seras looked confused for a moment before looking to me. I started doing hand seals before inhaling a deep breath. Seras' eyes widened in recognition before she scooped up the fox and sprinted away. I named the Jutsu internally as I used it, "Sage Art: White Fury!" I opened my mouth, revealing my true form for a few moments to draw some sage chakra, my mouth opened extraordinarily wide to reveal my fangs. A translucent energy appeared in the form of a dragon clutching an orb in its claws. It let out a harsh roar before speeding at the two males. They leapt away as the dragon collapsed in on itself, crushing the orb in its claws and releasing a harsh white light and deafening screech. The vibrations and light stunned the males but stopped short of Seras, I focused on using the Body Shedding Jutsu. It basically allowed me to separate portions of my body to escape, replacing them with chakra-infused fluid. It resembled a snake shedding its skin. However, I used the ability to liquefy my internal organs for a few moments to easily absorb the vibrations. The light faded but I knew that the two males would be stunned for a few more seconds. I whistled and Seras came running with Miso.
I pointed at the boy and sprinted toward him, happy that I expelled the last of my sage chakra with that last Jutsu and no longer looked monstrous. I sprinted forward and scaled the building in a few seconds. I thrusted my blade forwards as I stopped short of the boy, still sticking to the side of the building with chakra, so all my momentum would enhance my strike. He drew a dagger from his belt and parried my kunai in a split second as a grin covered his features. "That was rude of you! You blinded me and the Captain!" He exclaimed as he deflected my blade and attempted to stab me with a downward jab. I scoffed, still not understanding. "I don't speak that, kid," I grumbled in Japanese. "Ah…foreigner?" He replied in the same language with a small grin. A hint of a smile graced my features before I delivered a savage palm heel between his ribs sending him flying back a few feet. "Yup. Quit the pillow talk." I said with a slightly aggressive edge to my voice. "I need to make sure my idiot doesn't get in trouble." I finished.
