Wow, I got off hiatus, put up one chapter, only to get back on hiatus again. That's a crappy thing to do to myself and the fans of this story.

Anyways, I'm finally back, and I hope you all enjoy this new chapter of Gravity Falls: Sinnoh Adventure! This chapter will continue the start of Season 3 with us revisiting Dipper, Wendy, and Robbie, as they make their way to Hearthome City in pursuit of the third badge, as well as catching up to Mabel and Soos. However, they have found themselves side-tracked by something else of interest. Just before going to Hearthome City, the three have to explore the Wayward Cave first!

And no, this is not a filler chapter. This chapter will advance the plot a little more, so-to-speak.

Now, on with the show!

-Chapter 22: Wayward Woes-

"And that's how I caught my shiny Starly."

Dipper finished up a quick story, retelling the beginning events that occurred at the start of his journey as he, Wendy, and Robbie continued along their trip to Hearthome City. It had been a day since the events that occurred at the Old Chateau, and now Route 206 was their next goal to conquer before going to Hearthome. Unlike many beginning routes in Sinnoh, Route 206 was a fairly long route that was located beneath Cycling Road. Trainers typically traversed this route to prepare themselves for what was to come, as the routes past Hearthome City got much lengthier. Trainers also frequently visited the Wayward Cave that was located at the end of the route. The cavern was filled with Pokemon unique to that area, which was why it was a hotspot for new trainers. Route 206 only took about an hour to travel across, then another hour to get back, and while this wasn't much of a lengthy time, it was still long for a route this early in a trainer's adventure. However, a few of the later routes to come can take several hours, sometimes a day to complete. Not all routes, however, were lengthy burdens for trainers, as Sinnoh was not the biggest region in Japan, though it was fairly big. The three were about halfway through the route as Dipper recalled his journey thus far.

"Pretty lucky start, Dipper." Wendy said. "Now we both have shinies, while Robbie here is the odd-one-out."

"Oh shut up." Robbie muttered. "Who knows, maybe the Wayward Cave will land me a Shiny Pokemon."

"Doubt it." Dipper muttered, earning a glare from the gothic teen. He heard a noise on a tree nearby and watched his Monferno leap down onto his shoulder. The boy struggled to regain balance as he wobbled a bit, taken aback by the monkey Pokemon's weight. He smiled and looked at his starter Pokemon. "Hey there, partner."

"That seems to be a pretty big craze now." Wendy said.

"What do you mean?" Dipper asked.

"People seem to really like letting their Pokemon follow them around." Wendy replied. "It was big in Kanto for a time, then it stopped being a fad for a long while. In recent times, though, it became a craze in Johto."

"Huh, never really seen it take off in Sinnoh, I guess." Dipper said.

"That's right, cause it hasn't yet." Wendy said. "Keyword: yet."

"So, like, what kind of Pokemon are in the cave?" Robbie asked out of curiosity. Dipper pulled out his Sinnoh Guidebook, which he picked up from the Eterna Pokemart earlier that day to go along with his map. It was an up to date version of his previous guidebook, featuring new discoveries from Sinnoh, Johto, Hoenn, and even the far off Kalos Region.

"According to my book, Wayward Cave contains Rock-Type Pokemon like Geodude, Flying-Type Pokemon like Zubat, and rarely Steel-Type and Dragon-Type Pokemon like Bronzor and Gible." Dipper read.

"Dragon-Types?" Robbie asked. "That's a thing?"

"Apparently it is." Dipper confirmed as he put his book away. They were nearing the cavern's entrance as Monferno leaped off of Dipper's shoulder and sprinted towards the opening in the stone cliff.

"Well, this must be the cave." Wendy said. "Who wants to go in first?"

"Not me!" Robbie and Dipper said at the same time. Wendy chuckled.

"You chickens." She teased. She stepped into the cave and vanished into the darkness.

"Uh… we should like totally catch up to her." Robbie suggested as he inched towards the cave.

"...dude, man up." Dipper said. He slowly stepped into the cave. Despite not wanting to go in first he found himself not frightened by the dark. Monferno followed suite. Dipper held a stick out to the monkey Pokemon.

"Here partner, mind lighting this?"

Monferno complied and used Ember on the stick, creating a makeshift torch to light the area. From what the two could see, the small entrance of the cavern had taken them to an equally as small room with multiple stone boulders and a stairwell leading downwards to their left. Seeing as there was no other way to go, Dipper and Monferno went down the stairs in search of Wendy. After a minute or so, Robbie entered and followed.

However, the four were not alone. From outside the cave, somebody hid behind a tree, watching the group enter.

"Aha, here they are…" The voice muttered. The figure sprinted into the cave after the group.

At the bottom of the stairs, Dipper, Monferno, and Robbie had found Wendy staring into the darkness.

"What are you looking at?" Dipper asked.

"This place…" Wendy muttered. "It's...it's some kinda maze!"

They all stared into the darkness and could barely make out corridors that lead in many different directions.

"...who's going first?" Robbie muttered. Dipper rolled his eyes and walked forward.

"Can't believe this place scares you more than the Old Chateau." He said. "I mean, that place actually had creepy Ghost-Type Pokemon."

"Up top!" Wendy said. She held up her hand and the boy high-fived the teenage girl. They laughed as Robbie glared at them from the back of the group.

Being a Pokemon, Monferno had somewhat advanced vision in the dark. Not all Pokemon had that trait. Typically Dark-Type, Ghost-Type, Psychic-Type, and some Fire-Type Pokemon were like this. Monferno walked in front of Dipper and lead the group alongside his trainer, incase he needed to warn him and his friends of upcoming danger they couldn't see.

"Y'know, I wonder what's going on in Hearthome City right now." Dipper said. "Heck, I wonder if Mabel and Soos have passed that city already. Who knows, they might already be in Veilstone City getting the fourth Gym Badge."

"Come on, Dipper. I doubt they're that far ahead." Wendy said. "I mean, how do you know they both have the third Gym Badge already?"

"...yeah, you're right." Dipper said.

"Of course, I could be wrong." Wendy said. "Maybe they went to Pastoria and got the next gym badge there."

"Wait...you mean?"

"Yep, maybe they already have five badges." Wendy stifled a laugh as Dipper's facial expression went from curiosity to pure horror. "You know, if you want, you can use my cellphone to-" Dipper snatched the cellphone out of Wendy's hands faster than she could talk. "...call Soos."

Dipper turned the phone on, quickly searched the contacts list for Soos' number, then waited for him to pick up. After a few seconds, he heard Soos' voice with some commotion in the background.

"Hello?"

"Soos, where are you and Mabel right now and how many badges do you and Mabel have?!" Dipper asked frantically.

"Oh, hey Dipper!" Soos greeted from the other end. "Mabel and I are still in Hearthome City and we both still have 2 badges." Dipper sighed in relief. "Of course, right now, Mabel's fighting the Hearthome Gym Leader, and she's winning! Mabel is winning, I mean. Oh, and Candy, Grenda, and Lazy Susan are in Sinnoh too! Gotta go, dude!" Then the phone hung up. Dipper stared into the darkness as he dropped the phone, Monferno quickly catching it and handing it back to Wendy before it could hit the ground. The boy gritted his teeth as his eyes narrowed.

"We. Have. To. Hurry."

Dipper turned to leave but Wendy turned him back around.

"Jeez, Dip, what's up with you?" The redhead girl asked in concern. "Why do you care so much about how far Mabel and Soos are?"

Dipper sighed.

"It's...it's nothing." He dismissed. "I'm just...stressed, okay? I'm homesick and bored, and I'm not used to Mabel being so far ahead of me…"

"...well, just try to forget about it, okay?" Wendy said. "We'll be done in the cave soon, alright? I just want to explore."

"...alright." The boy said. Then they continued onwards.

After a lot of walking, turning corners, and battling wild Pokemon for training, the group had found themselves lost at a large room, which was essentially a dead end. They hadn't found any new wild Pokemon inside of it...or any Pokemon at all for that matter.

"Well, we're lost, and this room is of no interest." Dipper said.

"C'mon, there has to be something." Wendy felt her way along the wall before they all heard a clicking noise. The room began to rumble before an opening appeared in the back wall. They all stepped inside…

...and found another large, empty room.

"The hell?" Robbie said as he stepped in and looked around.

The middle of the room had a strange pattern on it, seven circles forming an H. They all approached the back wall and found a large statue of a Pokemon. The walls had some sandstone mixed into them and the room seemed somewhat lit and generally much more peaceful than the rest of the cave.

"This is the Chamber of Rocks." A voice said. They all turned around.

"Wha- Gideon?!" Dipper exclaimed.

Gideon stepped forward into the room.

"This chamber is special, I didn't expect you to find it." He said. "I left Hearthome City after earning my third badge in search of this place." Dipper rolled his eyes.

"Of course you'd already have three badges." He muttered. Monferno glared, then stepped forward, growling, but Dipper kept him back. "Easy there, partner."

"What's so special about this room?" Wendy asked suspiciously. It had to be an important room, considering Gideon had come to find it.

"Allow me to show you." Gideon began stepping on each of the circles, stepping on the center one last. Then the room began to rumble before the statue started to glow before exploding. Everyone braced themselves, dodging the flying rocks, and when they looked back at the statue, what replaced the statue was a strange Pokemon that looked like a large golem made of brown rocks. It had an orange circular pattern on its face that resembled a capital letter "H", long arms with jutting shoulders and club-like hands, and short legs in comparison to its body. There was a line of rocky spines running down its back. Dipper pulled out his Pokedex to identify the Pokemon.

Regirock, the Rock Peak Pokemon

Rock Type

Ability: Sturdy

Its entire body is made of rock. If any part chips off in battle, it attaches rocks to repair itself.

"Wait...isn't Regirock a legendary Pokemon?!" Dipper exclaimed.

"A legendary Pokemon?!" Wendy said in shock.

"What the...aren't those, like, super rare?!" Robbie asked.

"Yes, there are typically one of each legendary Pokemon in the world." Gideon explained. "This might be the world's only Regirock, though I have heard of one in Hoenn, and another in Unova…" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a Pokeball that had a purple top with two magenta circles on it's sides. In the middle of the top was a white 'M'.

"This Regirock is the reason I came...and now it's mine! Go Master Ball!"

Gideon threw the Master Ball at the Regirock with force. It collided with the legendary golem and absorbed it inside. It wiggled three times before clicking, indicating the Pokemon had been successfully caught. Gideon went and picked up the Master Ball containing his new Pokemon.

"Well, I'm bored of this place now." He put the ball away and turned to leave. Dipper recalled Monferno back into its Pokeball.

Then he, Wendy, and Robbie followed Gideon out of the Wayward Cave, shocking silence overcoming them.

-(End Of Chapter)-

Yes, Gideon backtracked all the way back here just to capture the legendary Pokemon Regirock. And yes, I know Regirock is not encountered here in the regular game.

But who cares?

Well, this chapter certainly took longer than necessary to write, but it's finally done and now I can continue working on this story even more! The next chapter will go back to Mabel, Soos, and the others in Hearthome City, and things are about to get tense…

Oh, this is just a note for later: the Veilstone City arc, which is coming up quite soon, actually, will contain some suggestive material (not sexually suggestive, mind you), so be warned.

Oh, and before I forget, here's this chapter's cipher:

JLGHRQ LV D WHUULEOH SHUVRQ, ULJKW? DOVR, WKLV VHDVRQ ZLOO EH ORQJHU WKDQ 1 DQG 2!

Try and solve it!

Anyways, I hope you have enjoyed this chapter, reviews are highly, highly appreciated (they make me want to write more!), and as always…

Stay Tuned!
