April 1815 – June 1815
A few days after he arrived at Pemberley, Georgiana's first child was born. Although he was not in the mood, he visited his sister to meet his nephew. Georgiana's husband was beaming and proudly showed everyone his son. A stark contrast to his sad situation; three days later, more depressed than before, returned to Pemberley.
The days passed slowly and Darcy was more and more immersed in sad and depressive thoughts, and above all regret. With each passing day, he understood better what his cousin Richard had told him a year ago, and came to the conclusion that Esteban Hauton was not a fool but he and many other gentlemen who married women of dubious morals just for money. and connections were the fools.
During sleepless nights, he reflected sadly on his first marriage proposal... He had insulted the only woman he had ever loved simply because she was socially inferior to him... and despite all the advantages she would have had in marrying him, she flatly refused him for being proud, and arrogant, ruining her sister's happiness and his selfish disdain for the feelings of others. He realized the problem was he did not live up to the standards of integrity and character that she expected from her future husband. Furthermore, according to Richard, Mr. Barton was a true gentleman; he was an honest, intelligent, and brave man... and from what he saw in the theater they seemed very much in love, and she looked even more beautiful than ever.
He recognized that he was also guilty of the problems in his marriage that ended with his wife's infidelity. He never took his wife's feelings into account, in fact, he agreed to let her go to London alone, not to please her, but because he would rather be alone than with a woman who complained most of the time. He knew well that he had not gone to London several weeks before, preferring to remain alone at Pemberley. The sad truth was he didn't enjoy his wife's company. He wasn't unfaithful, but he didn't do anything to make their marriage work. Many times, even when he was intimate with her, he would close his eyes and imagine that the woman he was kissing was Elizabeth Bennet.

In July he received the third letter from his wife. He hadn't heard from her for a month and in the two previous letters, she swore that she had never been unfaithful.
2nd July 1815
Scotland
Mr. Darcy,
In the last few months, I have had a lot of time to think about you and our marriage. Since before we were married, I knew very well that you did not love me, and surely you would never love me. I know the reasons you married me is because I am the daughter of an earl and you also assumed that I had a very large dowry, and I married you because you are rich and handsome.
Unfortunately, what is done is done and we cannot turn back time. An innocent child that I am sure is your child, is due to be born in a short time. Therefore, I beg you to think better and come to Scotland soon for the birth of your child. The midwife estimates that the child will be born in a few weeks.
We both made many mistakes during our marriage: you never showed interest in me nor did I feel loved, and I wanted to feel beautiful and loved.
I am honestly convinced that we are both guilty of this situation; since we are married, I think we should make an effort to rebuild our marriage. So if you give me another chance, I promise that I will do everything possible to be a good wife and an excellent mother.
Please come,
Lady Maria.
After reading the letter, Darcy was thoughtful for several hours. A few days ago, he decided that if a boy was born, he would give him up for adoption since due to the memory of his ancestors he could not have an heir without knowing for sure if he had Darcy blood. On the other hand, if it was a girl, he would meet her and if he was convinced she was his daughter, he would live with him at Pemberley.
He was not going to please his wife and travel to Scotland; Mr. Reynolds was going and had clear instructions on what he had to do...
