...

Bulma's celebratory mood vanished immediately. A sad look replaced the countenance which was wreathed in smiles only seconds before.

"Chi-Chi, Gohan couldn't possibly have been on that ship. Turles murdered him!"

"I SAW HIM!" Chi-Chi choked out.

The color literally drained from Bulma's face," Y-You c-couldn't have, Artruay told us…"

"HE LIED TO US!" Goku's widow shrieked. "I saw Gohan with Turles and the others. I tried so hard to keep up with them but Turles sent that overfed bearded oaf of his to stop me. Even with that ugly scar on his face I KNOW that was my Gohan…and now…now.."

Chi-Chi burst into a fresh torrent of tears," My poor baby…having to go in such an horrible way!"

The former heiress of Capsule Corps was completely stunned as the full realization of what had befallen the son of Goku came across to her.

'But why, why would Artruay lie to us?'

Bulma buried her face in her hands and started to wail…..

…..

Smoke billowed about the large crater containing the wreckage of what once was a ship that belonged to a certain Saiyan pirate. A beefy bronzed fist shot out from the rubble followed by the shaggy black-haired form of Gartoas He wiped at the gash on his forehead which proved to be a futile gesture as the blood continued to flow. To his surprise a pale-skinned hand suddenly pressed a scrap of cloth to the wound.

"Put some pressure on that for a few minutes you big lummox!" a feminine voice rang out.

"Be just muh luck fer tha wench ta be tha only one lef' still kickin'" the Kardanagan cursed under his breath.

Zailora sported an angry bruise on her left cheek and numerous small cuts were scattered about her face. Other than that she'd escaped any lasting damage from the devastating crash.

The Kabochan male was the next to emerge from the remnants of the ruined spacecraft. His fellow crewmates quickly noticed the awkward angle of his right arm.

"It's broke fer sure an' yer shoulder's bin popped outta place," Gartoas informed Daiz.

"Well you know what you've gotta do," the former royal replied as he grit his teeth.

"Fine, but don' ya be tryin' ta belt me one on account o' it hurtin somethin' fierce!"

"Quit flapping your gums and get it over with!" Daiz growled.

Zailora covered her mouth as a series of expletives spewed out from Daiz as Gartoas forced his dislocated limb back into place. A soft moan was heard from beneath the wreckage. The trio carefully removed enormous scraps of scorched metal and huge shards of glass. They gave a collective sigh of relief as they discovered a relatively unharmed Gohan. His few minor cuts and bruises were of no consequence.

"Now where's tha mutt?" Gartoas grumbled.

"Awwww, there is a heart buried in there under all that blubber. Somewhere wwwwaaaayyy in there," the Kabochan female quipped.

"Aw shut yer trap! Ifn' tha mutt's done fer Ah want it gone afer tha stink be startin'," the burly pirate huffed.

Gohan's horrified expression quickly made Gartoas the recipient of a hard punch from both of the Kabochans.

"YOU need that arm tended to," Zailora scolded Daiz.

"It can wait, I'll live," he answered back stubborly.

Digging through the refuse that had once composed their ship, the crew eventually discovered the badly frightened Charladon. Her luxuriant fur was littered with splinters of glass but she was otherwise quite well.

"Ain't nothin' left," Gartoas growled. "Bes' ship Turles e'er 'ad an' there's nothin' left o' it."

The little demi-Saiyan gave a deep sigh as he looked around him. His grip involuntarily tightened on the creature he held. He felt a small pang of sadness as he realized his prized collection of books was probably nothing more than ash.

"Where's Turles?" Gohan blurted out.

There was a brief moment when the three adults stared at each other. Then they began an earnest all-out search for the missing Saiyan.

"Reckon ya ave' it made ifn' Turles bit tha big one," Gartoas mused.

Daiz winced at the comment," I wouldn't want things to end like that and you know it."

A woman's scream suddenly rent the air. Zailora!

"Ahm guessin tha woman found Turles," the Kardanagan muttered.

….

"Miss Chi-Chi, I don't mean to make light of your terrible loss but if your son was with Turles then he must have willingly…" Belas began.

"NO! NO! NO! My Gohan was NOT a murdering pirate!" the irate brunette bellowed.

"Chi-Chi, I hate to say it but I was right there with Gohan and he went straight back to Turles," Bulma spoke up.

"I'm….I'm sure he didn't really have a choice….if YOU hadn't been so bent on getting revenge on Turles…"

"Chi-Chi!"

"I'm sorry, Bulma. It's just so hard! First I lose Goku and now my only child," the Ox-King's daughter sobbed.

"I'll see if I can get a squad together to search the wreckage for possible survivors if I can get one formed. Everyone who would have gladly assisted is either dead or terrified of Turles. If that damned Saiyan survived…then Kami help us!" Artruay's one-time aide declared.

…..

Zailora fought to keep her wits about her as she took in the sight of the motionless Saiyan lying sprawled out before her. Small portions of the ship's hull were still semi-intact the large observation window no longer existed. From the looks of it, Turles had been thrown backwards through the thick pane of glass. Numerous shards of glass and splinters of metal appeared to be embedded deep into his skin. His armor was completely shattered on the left side of his chest. The right half of his chest plate was missing with the exposed flesh bearing severe burns. An ugly open wound above Turles's right eye was causing an ever widening crimson puddle beneath him. His chest just barely rose and fell one could hardly discern that Saiyan was breathing at all.

Tears welled up in the she-pirate's eyes as she tore strips from the onyx-eyed warrior's now ruined cape. She then set to work binding up the serious head injury.

Gartoas whistled as he observed Turles's condition," Is he…?" His voice trailed off.

Daiz dropped to his knees beside Zailora he didn't miss the stricken expression on her face.

"No, he's still alive but barely. We need to get him to a medical facility fast."

Gohan gave a mournful cry as he laid eyes on the wounded pirate commander.

"This is all MY fault!" the little half-ling shouted.

"Gohan, you didn't cause the engines to fail. It's NOT your doing!" Zailora tried to calm the distraught youngster.

"IT IS TOO! I took off my belt when Ember broke loose. Turles got hurt protecting me if I had stayed in my seat he wouldn't have…" Gohan burst into tears. "I HAVE TO GET SOME HELP!"

"GOHAN, WAIT!" Daiz cursed as the demi-Saiyan ignored his command and took to the sky.

"Ah don' think e'll be in danger much. No one'll dare be puttin ther hand on 'im," Gartoas spoke up.

"The citizens here won't but what if the Sarhassan is still lurking around?" Daiz growled. He looked over at the fallen pirate. Of course Turles had risked his own life for the boy's safety. Whether he admitted to it or not there was a bond between the two of them. The Saiyan went out of his way to ensure the Earth-raised child had the best of everything. Gohan now stood at Turles's waist. No doubt his growth spurts were further developed than usual due to the superb food he enjoyed on a regular basis. As for Gohan he practically worshiped the dark-skinned Saiyan.

….

"I can't get anyone that's willing to go near the wreckage!" Belas snarled as he slammed his communication device down on the now deceased reptile's desk.

"Well maybe we should check it out," Bulma suggested.

"Are you out of your mind? What if Turles is still alive?" the Kermith wanted to know.

"M-Maybe Gohan could still be…." Chi-Chi started.

Just then the office door slid open, Bulma plopped down hard into Artruay's cushioned seat. She was slack-jawed in amazement. Goku's widow screamed and crossed the room in two bounds.

A tired looking small muscular form in battered red and gold armor stood in the doorway. His deeply tanned skin was marred with cuts and bruises and his hair was wild and unkempt…..

IT WAS GOHAN!

The half-Saiyan's eyes were wide as saucers as he took in the occupants of the room.

"M-Miss Bulma? Mom? MOM!"

Chi-Chi was crying and laughing at the same time as she threw her arms around her son.

"I'LL NEVER LET YOU OUT OF MY SIGHT AGAIN!"

Gohan's face flushed as his mother plastered every inch of him she could reach with heartfelt kisses. Bulma beamed with happiness as she watched Chi-Chi's joyful reunion with her son.

Gohan gave his mother a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek even though it felt strange now to do so.

"Mom, I'm so happy to see you're alive but…."

"Everything's going to be fine now, Gohan," Bulma interrupted.

"NO! You don't understand Turles is…"

"You don't have to worry about that monster anymore. You're free!" Chi-Chi declared.

"That's right! I took that evil creature out! My invention caused him to drop right out of the sky! Here I can show you the replay," the azure-haired scientist announced proudly.

Gohan was struck with absolute horror as he watched Turles's ship fall from the sky and slam into the planet's surface in a fiery crash on the screen of Bulma's computer. His small hands balled up into fists as pure rage suffused his entire being.

"IT WAS YOU? YOU DID THIS TO US?" the outraged youth roared.

Gohan's tail thrashed about, his eyes burned with fury, a feral growl sounded low in his throat. Bulma took a fearful step back.

"Gohan? GOHAN!" Chi-Chi tried to get his attention to no avail.

"Turles is severely injured, you will help him or I will end the life of every creature on this planet!" Gohan barked.

Chi-Chi gasped and Bulma clapped her hand over her mouth in shock. This was Gohan but at the moment he resembled a pint-sized Turles.

Gohan hated to frighten his mother but his anger knew no bounds. He had to save Turles

"I hate to be an 'I told you so'… " Belas started.

"Not now!" Bulma whispered back…
