….
Chi-Chi carried several trays filled with steaming bowls and plates of assorted dishes with the help of two of her servers from the restaurant the unfortunate Artruay had once presided over. Normally she would take great pride in the delicious repasts she prepared with the utmost care. But now the Ox-king's daughter was filled with bitter resentment at being forced to use her culinary skills to satisfy the tremendous appetite of the demon that had cruelly snatched away the life she once knew. Instead of her rightful existence as a devoted wife and mother she was little more than a slave subject to the whims of a merciless Saiyan and his crew of miscreants.
Chi-Chi and her assistants set the trays down and quickly exited the room. Goku's widow made sure to glare at the pirate female on her way out. There was a smugness about the dark green-haired woman that thoroughly irritated Chi-Chi.
Turles was seated at the edge of his bed making his usual complaints about being treated like an infant that required feeding. Zailora let him rant for a while and then she proceeded to assist him with his meal as she had before. Surely accepting spoonfuls was preferable to wearing more of the food then the Saiyan was able to manage to get to his mouth. He insisted on lifting his beverage to his lips on his own. The container shook and sloshed as his right hand gripped it unsteadily.
Zailora would have held the drink for the stubborn pirate but she knew he hated the loss of his independence and insisting on aiding him would further injure his already bruised pride. The dark-skinned Saiyan's fine motor skills were progressively failing. This made Turles perceive himself as weak and it infuriated the once powerful warrior.
The she-pirate didn't miss the flush of embarrassment that colored the Saiyan's face as he endured being assisted with the simplest of daily functions. No doubt it was utterly humiliating for the ruthless pirate to be dependent on others.
"Zailora, when you signed on as a member of my crew I'm quite certain you didn't seek the position of baby- sitter. Why do you even stay on when your commander's nothing but a worthless invalid?" Turles snarled.
"There's a medical reason behind your condition! It's not because you're weak. And I will NEVER desert you! " the Kabochan female said softly. "You'll have the surgery tomorrow and then things will be better.."
"What if I fail to survive the surgery?" the Saiyan cut in.
"I won't LET you die!" Zailora choked out. "I'll do whatever takes I don't care if I have to challenge King Yemma himself!"
Turles actually burst into genuine laughter at her response "Would you now?"
A long sigh came from the pirate commander, "I'm not worth that much of an effort."
"To me you are," Zailora whispered.
She walked up behind Turles, her hands slid to his shoulders. Skillful fingers began to loosen the tight corded muscles of his neck and shoulders. A low purr rumbled from the Saiyan's chest.
"You are a comfort I don't deserve, Woman."
"Nonsense," was her reply as Zailora leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.
Turles tried to reach up and stroke her hair but only managed to poke his fingers in her left ear. He started to pull away in disgust at himself. The Kabochan female responded with feather-light kisses to his throat as she kneaded his shoulders. She gave a squeak of surprise as the Saiyan's tail whipped out and pulled her to him. He clumsily wrapped his arms around her breathing in the scent of her hair and gently nipping at her own neck.
Turles's eyes widened as he noticed her scent had changed a bit, it was sweeter somehow. He hadn't thought that possible after all it was her scent that had first drawn him to her. Strange how she had once infuriated him by just hinting at an interest in him and now he literally craved her presence. Damned woman was making him soft and he didn't seem to mind at all….
…
Chi-Chi gathered the empty bowls and plates and stacked them on the pile of trays that she could now manage to carry by herself. Somehow she couldn't recall even Goku putting away as much food as the boorish pirate was capable of on a daily basis. She was sick and tired of feeding the monster that had ruined her life and Bulma's. Not only that but he had corrupted her only child. That was going to end today.
The female pirate gave her the usual dismissive expression as Chi-Chi started to leave the room. Suddenly Turles made a choking sound and clawed at his throat. Zailora raced to the Saiyan's bedside but he was shuddering and foam was flying from his lips. Turles went pale and his eyes rolled back…
"YOU DID THIS!" the she-pirate screamed at Goku's widow as she began to power up a blast in her right hand. Suddenly the Kabochan woman fell to her knees as violent spams rocked her body.
A smirk crossed the raven-haired female as she watched the two pirates writhe in their death throes….
"Chi-Chi! CHI-CHI!"
"Huh, what?" Chi-Chi spun about and gave a sigh of disappointment as she caught sight of Makalo staring at her with a quizzical expression. She was in the restaurant kitchen not the despicable pirate's room.
"Chi-Chi, I've been trying to get your attention for the last FIVE minutes! What have you been daydreaming about with that big smile on your face?" the Namekian questioned.
…..
Gohan giggled as a loud burp escaped him. His mother would have been appalled at such behavior while he was at the table especially since he was at a public eatery. Daiz merely shot him a wicked grin and let out a great belch as well. The wait staff grimaced as the pair left their seats and a huge pile of empty dishes in their wake.
"Thanks for the meal, Daiz," Gohan piped up.
"Anytime," Daiz chuckled.
The little demi-Saiyan thought of something that puzzled him as they walked along. He wondered if he should ask about it. Finally his curiosity got the best of him.
"Daiz, can I ask you something?"
"Yes, go ahead."
"You won't get mad?" Gohan asked cautiously.
"What do you have to ask that could possibly make me angry?" the Kabochan pirate wanted to know.
"It's about you and Zailora."
Daiz got a sinking feeling in his chest but he had known this was coming eventually.
"Gohan, get it over with," the former prince sighed.
"Is something going on with you and Zailora? You two don't act like you did before," the little half-blood mused.
"Things are different now, Gohan," Daiz replied.
"You still love her don't you?" Gohan asked.
'I'll probably always love her,' the dark green-haired pirate thought.
"Gohan, sometimes things change and people learn to love somebody else. I'll always care about Zailora but I guess we weren't really meant to be together," Daiz said finally.
"But that doesn't make any sense!" the confused youngster spouted.
"This is something you'll understand better once you're older, Gohan."
"I doubt it," the son of Goku grumbled.
Daiz chuckled and ruffled his hair," We need to get back to the medical facility."
…
Bulma was sitting in her lab chewing her left index fingernail down to the quick. The thought of the next morning's surgery had her practically a nervous wreck. What if something went wrong? What if Turles expired….
"Bulma."
The blue-haired scientist shrieked as her name was mentioned. Dr. Mazzim was staring curiously at her. At least that's how those huge eyes of his seemed to appear.
"I didn't mean to startle you, Bulma. You seem rather agitated. Do you have concerns about the Saiyan's surgery?"
"Our lives depend on the success of tomorrow's surgery! Of course I'm concerned!" Bulma shouted.
"DO calm down, I was sure you had the necessary skills and intelligence to assist me but if I misjudged your capabilities….," the medic began.
"I most certainly AM capable!" the former heiress interrupted.
The mantis-being grinned inwardly. He knew if he hinted at the human being inept she would insist on displaying her abilities. It was going to be interesting to work with her.
"Then everything should proceed splendidly. Do get plenty of rest and I shall see you bright and early tomorrow, Bulma," Dr. Mazzim stated cheerfully patting her right hand with his upper right appendage.
"He gives me the creeps!" Chi-Chi hissed as she watched the alien physician leave Bulma's lab.
"He seems nice enough," Bulma sighed.
"I don't trust anyone who's looking out for Turles!" the Ox-Princess snapped.
Chi-Chi crossed her arms over her chest and glared at Bulma," Speaking of that horrid space ape, what's this about you assisting with that beast's surgery?"
"Chi-Chi I don't have a choice. Our lives depend on Turles surviving the surgery," the once darling of Capsule Corps informed her.
"And then what? How long will he allow us to live when he no longer needs us, Bulma?"
"I don't know, Chi-Chi. I really don't know," Bulma said pensively.
The young genius attempted to change the subject," Have you and Gohan made up yet?"
Chi-Chi's expression grew sorrowful. " No, I think I've lost him, Bulma. I think I've lost my boy for good!"
…
Gohan apprehensively walked into the room that contained the Saiyan pirate. He couldn't help but worry about the commander. What would he do if something happened to Turles?
The dark-skinned Saiyan recognized the boy's presence immediately "What is it, Gohan?"
"Master Turles, You're going to be all right aren't you? T-They'll fix everything tomorrow and then you'll be o-k-kay," Gohan fought to keep the tremor out of his voice.
"That remains to be seen," Turles replied.
"You can't die, Commander. YOU JUST CAN'T!" Gohan burst from the room, tears rolling down his face.
Turles gave a growl of disapproval at the Earth-raised half-ling's behavior.
"Master Turles, he is still a child after all," Zailora scolded.
"A Saiyan child, he should be beyond such caterwauling!"
The she-pirate laughed softly.
"Am I a source of amusement for you, Woman?"
"At times, Commander," Zailora giggled.
"Obviously I need to put you in your place."
"Mmmm, sounds inviting," the Kabochan female pressed.
"Vulgar woman!"
"Master Turles! I was only considering a rigorous training session what did YOU have in mind?"
The Saiyan's blush made a reply unnecessary.
"I could END you right this moment!" Turles snarled.
"COULD but you won't!" the nobleman's daughter shot back as she tapped the Saiyan's nose with her right index finger.
Zailora burst into laughter as Turles snapped at her finger as she swiftly pulled it away.
…
The green porcine lifeform glared at the group of assorted beings that were would-be mercenaries with a snort of disgust.
"Zefis, I thought we were the only ones pulling down this job!" the boar-like creature known as Gerdo complained.
His orange-skinned, yellow-haired shipmate shook his head," They'll be taking out the small fry so we can be dealing with Turles. That Saiyan's crew of rejects aren't worth our time."
"That'll work! They'd just better stay out of our way," Gerdo warned.
"The coordinates are XZ4986. Now get to your ships we plan to reach planet Arturay and begin our attack in four hours!" Zefis ordered the group.
…..
"Bulma! BULMA!"
Bulma quickly sat up in her bed. She almost screamed at the sight of Dr. Mazzim standing at her bedside.
"What is it? What's going on?" the bleary-eyed bluenette yawned.
"We can't delay until morning! We have to perform the surgery IMMEDIATELY!"
….
