...

Daiz couldn't shake the feeling that he and Gartoas were being followed. He'd dropped behind while searching for their mysterious pursuer and now the Kardanagan was wandering somewhere in the building on his own. It wasn't wise to separate with that scaled monstrosity slithering around but the dark green-haired pirate was determined to find who was dogging their footsteps.

Slipping into a doorway, Daiz watched as a shadow fell across the floor. He braced himself to attack and froze in absolute shock as he realized it was Tamaiz!

"What are YOU doing here?" the former royal blurted out.

The pretty Kabochan gave a bright smile before she answered," I was looking for you."

"It's not wise for you to be here now. In fact it's dangerous," Daiz replied shaking his head.

"I'm not afraid, after all I'm a Kabochan," Taimaz insisted stubbornly.

"You have no idea of the hell spawn we're facing," Turles's second-in-command spoke up quickly.

"Then why don't you stop being so mysterious and clue me in?"

"It seems we've incurred the wrath of a Sarhassan, it's already claimed two lives as it is. I don't want you to be its next victim," Daiz said grimly.

"I appreciate the concern but I know how to defend myself. Some two-legged snake doesn't impress me in the least!" Taimaz huffed.

"You have no idea what that creature is capable of," the Kabochan pirate sighed.

"Chi-Chi, There's no reason to stay here. I've finished the construction of our ship. We have to leave now!" Bulma insisted.

"I can't just leave! What about Gohan? Am I supposed to just abandon him? I won't leave him with Turles, I just won't!" Chi-Chi protested.

"Gohan has already made his choice, Chi-Chi. What makes you think you can change his mind now?" the blue-haired genius inquired.

Tears welled up in the Ox-King's daughter's eyes," I have to try, Bulma. I just have to! Besides, Turles warned you not to leave. There's no telling what he'll do if you disobey him."

"So you're saying that we're just going to stay here…. to be Turles's prisoners?" Bulma demanded bitterly.

"I don't like it either but I'm NOT giving up on Gohan!" Chi-Chi declared.

"I hope you know what you're doing!" the former heiress groaned.

….

Gartoas grimaced as he watched Turles stagger when the enormous serpent's tail whipped across the Saiyan's frame. It seemed that the creature's speed had rapidly increased. Had the pirate commander finally met his match?

His onyx eyes narrowed at the sensation of blood coursing down his face. Turles was already furious that Salzar had taken Zailora's life and threatened Gohan. No doubt the serpent-being inflicted the deliberate injury to goad the Saiyan into losing control of his temper and making him careless. He'd survived countless encounters by keeping his wits about him. The Scourge of the North Sector wasn't about to allow his emotions to interfere now.

Turles vaulted through the air landing on his feet enraging the Sarhassan as its strike missed its target.

"Sssstand ssstill and acccept yourr fate!" Salzar snarled.

"Sorry I have other plans. Perhaps you'll be useful to make a pair of boots or two. But then I've seen better hide on a Griedis," the dark-skinned Saiyan chortled. He was referring to a repulsive scavenger that roamed the planet of Sarhass.

"SSSSuch DISSSRESPECT!" the transformed Sarhassan roared.

"Now, now I'm just getting started!" Turles needled.

"SSssso am I!"

Gohan's eyes widened in horror as the slithering creature suddenly increased its size. The hellish being could swallow Turles whole if it chose to do so. Now the very floor shook as Salzar lunged for the pirate commander again and again. A ring of energy began to form between the pirate commander's outstretched hands.

The son of Goku gasped as the Sarhassan transformed once again. Its purple and orange hue gave way to green and black scales that appeared to be made of armor. Turles watched in disbelief as the Kill Driver glanced harmlessly from the reptile from Hell's seemingly impervious form.

"You will sssee SSSaiyan that I aaamm far more pppowerful than my sssire!" Salzar gloated.

"I'm STILL not impressed," the former leader of the Crusher Corps said flatly.

"Then obssserve thisss!" the gigantic serpent cackled.

Gartoas clapped his hand over his mouth. It just couldn't be! The monstrosity had turned into…Zailora!

Turles blinked then looked again. Dark forest-green hair framed the face he'd gladly lay down his life to touch again. He shook his head, this wasn't real…..

"You wouldn't hurt me would you?" a plaintive feminine voice questioned.

It even sounded like Zailora!

The Saiyan stood transfixed, unable to move scarcely daring to breathe.

"Don't fall fer it, Commander! Tha' snake's doin' some kinda deviltry 'ere!" Gartoas shouted.

Turles slowly advanced despite his crewman's warning. He could only see what appeared to be the woman he had lost. As soon as he reached her side, the image before him changed. The Saiyan fought to breathe as great black and green coils tightened swiftly around him.

"Leggo o' im! Ya scaly nightmare!" Gartoa bellowed.

He could no longer stand to be on the sidelines. The Kardanagan flew over anddrove a meaty fist into the unholy beast's skull. Sheer agony and disbelief registered on the former bandit's face as he glanced down on his now damaged hand. In desperation he tried to charge up a blast to defend himself but he was slammed into the far wall. Gohan raced to his side and let out a sigh of relief. His hefty crewmate hadn't been killed merely rendered unconscious.

An angry howl came from the slithering demon as Turles managed to cause injury to its right eye. The spiky-haired warrior managed to break free from the crushing grip that had ensnared him. His breathing was labored and sharp pains shot through him each time he drew a breath.

Daiz finally managed to find his commander. He quickly took in the sight of his fallen crew member that Gohan was trying frantically to revive. Taimaz was right at his heels gaping in astonishment at the gigantic viper that thrashed about in pain and fury.

The little half-blood felt a sense of hopefulness as Daiz appeared. His eyes almost popped out of his head when he noticed the green-haired woman beside the Kabochan. It wasn't Zailora that was plain to see. But who was she?

A rapid succession of ki blasts were sent to dispatch the reptilian by the once royal. To his consternation they ricocheted about the room instead putting everyone at risk but his intended target.

"Wonderful! If that creature doesn't kill us all YOU WILL!" the female bar-keep shrieked.

Daiz shot her an annoyed look even as he shielded her with his own body and deflected the blasts that came too close.

Turles snapped his head up as a cry came from the dark green-haired pirate. The Kabochan dropped to his knees, grasping his head with both hands. Taimaz tried to assist him but she was soon a victim of the same affliction. Tears rolled down the woman's face as she fought the torment that raged in her own skull. The deserter of Frieza's forces realized that the Sarhassan was employing his ability to use their very thoughts against them.

"Let them be, Salzar. Your fight's not with them!" the Saiyan barked.

"Oh nnnooooo,I will dessstroy ALL of you!" Salzar hissed.

Gohan could stand no more, first Gartoas, then Daiz and the female stranger. He flew at the serpentine being, pounding away furiously. The youngster groaned in pain as his ineffectual punches only resulted in injury to himself. And worst of all he found himself ensnared in the Sarhassan's coils.

His eyes widened as the great jaws yawned beneath him. Salzar intended to devour him alive! He vainly struggled against the ever tightening grip.

Turles was there immediately, he had observed Kakarott's brat utilize the technique he referred to as a Solar Flare countless times so he was able to mimic it perfectly. As the snake-ling reacted to the brilliant burst of light the little half-Saiyan was able to escape.

"Youuu will paaaay for your interference! NOW YOU DIE SAIYAN!" Salzar roared. He opened his cavernous maw once again.

Dropping to the floor the sower of the Tree of Might just avoided the scorching mouth-blast the reptilian behemoth aimed in his direction. How many more deadly surprises did the spawn of Salsir intend to reveal? The former leader of the Crusher Corp didn't have long to wait.

A ragged breath tore from the dark-skinned Saiyan as fire seemed to engulf his mind. He almost sank to his knees almost.

"Yessss, bowww before your sssuperior!" Salzar simpered.

A fine sheen of sweat broke over the notorious pirate's brow. His limbs began to tremble as he waged a mental battle with the accursed Sarhassan. He pushed the images of his father's abuse and being branded a failure in his youth from his mind. Tears threatened as he was forced to picture Zailora writhing in her death throes in unimaginable agony. Salzar would not succeed in using his own thoughts against him. He simply would not allow it! With the indomitable will to survive that was the pride of his species and his own sheer stubbornness Turles began to rise to his feet.

"Impossssible! No one can resist our mental skills! NO ONE!" the ophidian being shrieked in disbelief.

Turles bit his own lip to prevent an outcry as the gigantic serpent flung itself upon him. A wave of excruciating pain swept over his entire body. Before he could react from the onslaught, the hapless Saiyan was seized in the undulating coils once more and repeatedly slammed into the metal floor with great force. The scaled beast threw him into the wall as if it were suddenly bored. Then maliciously repeated its action with greater intensity.

Gohan watched helplessly as the pirate commander was flung about like a child's plaything. He tried to regain his footing but failed, Turles could only watch as his death slowly meandered towards him. This was the end he'd given his all. His strength was spent. The great jaws opened, sickly green venom dripped from the monstrous fangs now plainly revealed.

"Nowww I sshall relish your dying ssscreams and then feasst on the whelp!" Salzar crowed.

"GET OUT OF HERE GOHAN! GET OUT OF HERE NOW! THAT'S AN ORDER!" Turles barked.

"Let's be goin',boy! Turles'll hold im' off long as he can!" Gartoas spoke up behind him.

"Don't let his sacrifice be in vain, Gohan. We'll get your mother and Bulma," Daiz cut in.

Gohan was happy to see his crewmates bruised and battered but still alive. But he couldn't just leave Turles…

"I can't leave Turles!"

The burly bearded pirate noticed the green-haired female fix her gaze on the Saiyan. A look of sheer hatred lit her face for a moment. What was that about?

"Brat, get movin' ere' we be leavin' ere wi' out ya!" the Kardanagan barked.

"C'mon Gohan!" Daiz urged.

Turles weakly rolled away from the Sarhassan's strike it was only a matter of time…

Gohan balled up his fists in helpless rage he began to tremble as tears of frustration welled up in his eyes.

"LEAVE HIM ALONE YOU MONSTER!"

"Why don't you make me?" Salzar laughed cruelly.

"I SAID LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Gohan thundered in a voice unlike his own.

An unearthly scream came from the youngster. A strange wind suddenly came from nowhere billowing the half-human child's hair about. His locks began to flash with streaks of gold..

"The Legendary!" Turles gasped….
