A terrified Chi-Chi kept her eyes closed as one look down from the dizzying height at which she was being carried made her stomach lurch. If the hateful Saiyan dropped her the end would come within seconds. Suddenly her hair stopped fluttering about her and she felt solid ground beneath her feet as her captor released his grip.
Opening her eyes she took in the space pirate striding ahead of her in the tall vegetation of what looked very much like a jungle from Earth.
"Keep up!" Turles barked.
Seething with resentment the Ox-King's daughter quickened her pace to match the rapid advance of the planet marauder.
A low growl emanated from the swarthy skinned Saiyan as he took in the twin rapidly lowering suns. It wouldn't be very long before darkness fell. He'd have no issue with hunting through the night but it would be a disaster waiting to happen to expect the Earth female to manage to do so.
Chi-Chi watched with amazement as Turles quickly cleared an area with a few well-placed ki blasts. Next he had a fire merrily blazing away. When she looked away from the flickering flames to admire a brilliant multi-colored bird that flew past the Saiyan was nowhere in sight. Minutes later Turles appeared with a dripping haunch of meat from some unfortunate creature. He dropped it near the fire and Goku's widow presumed he turned about and left the area once more to wash off his blood-drenched breastplate and arms.
The smell of roasting meat greeted Turles as he walked back to the makeshift camp. He gave Goku's widow a nod of approval as he took in the sight of the meat he had procured roasting on a hastily assembled spit over the fire. Perhaps the woman wouldn't be completely useless after all…..
….
Daiz gave a sigh of relief as he checked over Turles's ship. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Saiyan pirate commander and the late Dr. Mazzim, the ship was in near pristine condition. As soon as damage began to occur repair bots had scurried from their compartments scattered about the ship to instantly begin bringing the craft back into order. Of course the Shlaza gas had no effect whatsoever on the non-sentient workers.
Bulma chewed her lip nervously as she worried about Chi-Chi being forced to accompany the volatile Turles. It wouldn't take much to anger the Saiyan in his present state of mind. One sharp word from the Ox-King's daughter might very well prove to be her last.
"Bulma, she'll be okay. Do you really think Turles would risk alienating Gohan by hurting his mother?" Daiz asked.
"I hope not," the former heiress choked out.
Daiz gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze,"I'm sure he won't. Turles is a lot of things but even he knows there's a limit on just how far he can push things."
"Tha ' sooner tha' two'o ya quit whisperin' sweet nothin's tha' sooner we can be goin'!" Gartoas huffed.
The Kabochan pirate stifled a laugh as Bulma's face colored with embarrassment," He's just jealous! But he's right, we can't delay getting supplies any longer."
Daiz scooped her up in his arms and shot to the sky followed by a grumbling Gartoas.
...
Chi-Chi stared at the flickering flames trying to keep from nodding off.
"Get some sleep, we'll be heading off at first light," Turles ordered.
She looked over nervously at a rough pile of leaves the Saiyan had piled up a short way from the fire which he now gestured to. He surely didn't propose...
"I don't require the amount of slumber you fragile humans do," the brigand snorted as if reading her thoughts.
With a sniff of disdain Chi-Chi stomped over to the offending pile and cautiously stretched out on it.
The Ox-princess was pleasantly surprised at just how comfortable the hastily assembled "bed" was. Total exhaustion won over her misgivings causing her to immediately drift off to sleep.
Chi-Chi shivered and pulled the soft cloth tighter around her shoulders. Her eyes snapped open immediately. There had been no covering when she'd fallen asleep. The slight chill in the night air was dispelled by the light fabric which she immediately recognized as the cape Turles had worn. He had obviously draped it over her at some time during the night. The brunette was completely dumbstruck that he'd bothered to do so. With his usual pompous demeanor Turles would not do anything out of consideration. What was the ulterior motive for his action? If she wasn't so tired she'd throw it right into the fire...
And then again she was out here all alone with the Saiyan monstrosity, destroying one of his possessions wouldn't exactly be prudent behavior. He'd probably blast her into a clump of ashes! Chi-Chi decided she'd rest her eyes just a few moments longer then...
"WAKE UP!"
Chi-Chi bolted upright to find an annoyed Turles standing over her. He pushed a scrap of tree bark into her hands that contained a portion of meat that was still steaming and what appeared to be two pieces of fruit.
"Eat that and be quick about it!"
She felt like flinging the "breakfast" into the scowling Saiyan's face and it appeared he was aware of her sentiment.
"If you require assistance..."
The indignant Ox-princess began stuffing pieces of meat and fruit into her mouth at a rapid pace. Surprisingly the meat was tender and the sweet fruit melted on her tongue. As she consumed the last bite Turles turned on his heel and began his advance into the dense foliage before them Tucking the cape under her right arm Chi-Chi broke into a jog to keep up with her surly captor. It was going to be a long day...
...
Bulma sank into a seat aboard Turles's ship. The bluenette was totally exhausted and she rubbed at the aching small of her back. It had taken four trips to carry all of the supposedly needed supplies to the ship. She had no doubt that a substantial amount of the "supplies" were luxury items that Turles somehow believed he was entitled to. How did Turles manage to function daily while carrying around that huge ego of his? The idea of the hated Saiyan suddenly collapsing under the weight of his sheer self-importance caused Bulma to snicker. Then she abruptly burst into all out laughter.
"Glad to hear you being so cheerful! Care to share the joke?" Daiz asked as he came up behind her.
Bulma gave a squeak of surprise and grabbed at her back.
"Didn't mean to startle you. Here let me fix that," the Kabochan pirate offered as his strong hands began to lightly knead the tight muscles in Bulma's lower back.
Bulma gave soft sigh as the knots in her spine loosened. She leaned back and a pair of powerful arms encircled her waist. Warm lips brushed her cheek.
"Better now?"
"Uh-hmm!" Bulma sighed as she leaned into the welcome embrace of Turles's second-in-command.
Gartoas rolled his eyes,"Ah'm gonna be sick!
...
A small settlement of some kind appeared in a clearing, rude thatched huts stood in a large circle. Bountiful gardens were just steps away from the dwellings containing strange crops the mother of Gohan had never seen the like of. Chi-Chi hoped it meant they'd stop walking at least for a while. Her throbbing feet gave a clear testament that her thin shoes were not intended to be worn for such a strenuous hike. Strange elephantine creatures were going about their daily tasks and a hush fell over the bustling community as Turles strode up to a cluster of them. Unsure of the aliens, the Earth born female stood back cautiously.
Chi-Chi held her breath as the sound of angry voices reached her. Would the elephant beings attack them? Several of the life-forms gave the Saiyan irritated looks as he appeared amused by something they said to him. Turles was chuckling darkly when he approached her.
"It seems Gohan has raided their crops several times and tried to seize one of the children as well," he chortled.
Chi-Chi gasped in horror at his next statement.
"Saiyans aren't herbivores. Gohan was craving meat."
