Chapter 16
Everything is Fine
You've just got to believe in and trust everyone in your team, and no doubt they will, too.
-Ashleigh Barty
Katie would rather walk across a bed of nails than be sitting in her car in the back of some random building. She held her phone to her ear, her head back against the seat with her eyes closed.
"No, that's fine Felicity." Katie said opening her eyes and looking up to the building. "I'm guessing he forgot he was supposed to be my wingman for this ridiculous dinner that I was blackmailed into attending."
"Are you sure you want to do this whole father-daughter dinner by yourself. I mean I get the feeling someone could be shot."
"Well there's always a chance." Katie muttered when the door on the side of the building opened and out walked the familiar face of Martin Ellis. "I have to go Felicity. Just let Liver know I'm here and he could show up if he still loves me."
Felicity chuckled, "I definitely will pass along the message."
Katie ended the call before Martin pulled open the door to let her out. She stood to her feet and looked at the man for a moment before looking over to the building.
"Why are we here?" Katie asked turning back to the man who laughed lightly before nudging his head for her to follow.
"Well your father felt you might be a bit more comfortable to meet somewhere other than the ARGUS facility." Martin pulled open the door and Katie paused for a moment before walking inside. She walked into find a dim lit hallway, but she could hear the soft sounds of music playing from somewhere. Martin walked around her and so she quirked a brow and followed. Further down that dim lit hall and around a corner was a door. Martin opened the door, and Katie's eyes widened as she looked inside to see what seemed liked a big, fancy restaurant filled with people. Across the restaurant, Jacob stood with a smile as he walked over to meet her.
"You know I assumed this many people seeing your face would sort of put a kink in your whole being dead ruse." Katie said and Jacob laughed before looking around the restaurant.
"Well it would if all of these people didn't already know I wasn't dead." he said before turning back to Katie who was only confused for a second longer. She let out a sigh before turning to the man.
"They're ARGUS agents."
Jacob gave a nod, "I thought I could create a semblance of a normal dinner, at a fancy restaurant with my daughter." He turned back to the table. "Come, sit." Katie stood there for a moment longer, her eyes glancing around the room at all the people engaged in conversations. It looked real, and yet it wasn't. Katie let out a sigh before walking over to the table and taking a seat.
And so it begins. Tobias Church was killed during his prison transport, and yet somehow his phone was still moving. Oliver and John had been tracking the phone until they arrived to some abandoned warehouse. All signs were pointing to this being a trap set by the mysterious new player Prometheus, and yet they weren't turning around. The whole hunt ended with them finding the phone, only to answer the call from a modulated voice Oliver assumes is Prometheus. The call ended, and fire sparks a gasoline lined message that reads, "And so it begins."
Oliver and John returned to the bunker still trying to make sense of the message.
"So what begins?" John asks as he walks along side Oliver who slips his bow back into it's case. "That's the question."
"That's a good point." Oliver says turning back to John and Felicity. "It would seem like he has already started, considering he's dropped two bodies."
"I get killing Conahan. He led the ACU team to help the Green Arrow rescue the city councilmen, but why take out Church?"
"Maybe he didn't like the competition." Felicity suggested and they looked over to her. "He put a target on the Green Arrow when it seems he wants that kill for himself. " the woman nodded. " So Church goes after you, Prometheus goes after Church, and—shunk!" neither knew what that noise was and she looked back to them in confusion. "What? That was my throwing star sound effect? Why? What does yours sound like?"
" I just don't understand. A person that leaves a trail of dead cops just to kill a guy who's after you because he wants to kill you himself."John says and Felicity once again pipes in with what's she felt like she's said for the one hundredth time.
"Well, I'll say it again. This is serious enough to warrant telling the rest of the recruits." Felicity said before turning to Oliver.
"Who—Curtis, Ari whose been benched and 3 people we barely know, one of which gave up your identity to Church, who we can only pray didn't share that information with Prometheus?"
"Well, for the record, Rene didn't give up Oliver's identity, ok? He was tortured." Felicity said with a shake of her head before turning to Oliver. "And is Ari really benched? I kind of felt she had the most promise."
"Ari needs to figure out how to not let all of this become her entire life so she's going to take a break from this for a while." Oliver said. "Plus John is right, we don't know enough about what's going on so we have to keep them out of this. I don't want to put the recruits in harm's way until we know exactly what it is we're dealing with." Oliver turned.
"Oh, I want to see how your wife reacts when you tell her that you and your friend John are hunting down some unknown enemy without the rest of your team." Oliver stopped and turned back to her. "Lucky for you, you get to tell her sooner rather than later. She called while you were out." Oliver frowned and she already knew what he was going to say. "And before you say anything, I offered to connect you, but she said she didn't want to distract you while you were out there."
"What did she say?"
"She said that you forgot about the whole dinner from hell she has to attend." Felicity said and the moment the words came out of her mouth, Oliver dropped his head and let out a sigh.
"I did forget. She's going to kill me." Oliver turned and rushed off to get changed.
"Dinner from hell?" John asked turning to Felicity.
"That's right, you don't know. Well in exchange for Jacob's help in aiding your escape, she now has to have dinner with him once a month." Felicity said and John turned away, a look of guilt washing over his face.
"I heard what he did." John says turning back to Felicity. "She woke up and didn't tell her anything about her life. About Oliver, about her daughter." he shook his head. "She shouldn't have done that for me."
"In what world would you see her not doing anything in her power to make sure, you, Oliver and Bruce got home safe. I'd say one dinner a month isn't the worst thing in the world."
"That is until somebody gets shot." John sighed, turning, just as Oliver came running toward the elevator, now dressed in his suit.
"Felicity!" he called.
"Sending you the location!" she called back as the elevator doors closed.
Jacob looked up in annoyance to see his daughter scrolling through something on her phone. She seemed adamant to not engage in conversation. They hadn't spoken since they sat down. It was just an awkward silence as they waited for their food.
"So how is my granddaughter. She has a birthday coming up, right?" Jacob asked and Katie glanced up to him and gave a nod before dropping her eyes back to her phone. He shook his head. "So do you plan on ignoring me the entire time you're here?" she once again glanced up to him before sitting back in her seat. "I wanted to have these dinners so we could—fix this—fix us."
"You think a couple of dinners is going to fix us?" she asked with a tilt of her head. "Fix the fact that you faked a coma, had your demented coworkers kidnap me, torture me and make me think that every day was the last day of my life."
"Sweet heart-"
"Oh I know, you think some fake restaurant, filled with all these agents is going to fix the fact that you made a deal with a man who calls himself demon, where he would take your daughter and make her do terrible things in the name of getting her ready for some big bad fight." she shook her head. "I'm sorry to break it to you Jacob, but there is no fixing us, because we're broken. You broke us. " she reached forward and grabbed her glass of champagne and took a sip. She looked back over to the man who sat back in his seat as he looked over to her. "Look I'll come to these stupid dinners because that was the deal, I don't have to engage in conversation with you, so I'm just going to continue playing games on my phone until the food gets here." she dropped her eyes back to her phone.
"Did you know I met your mother by accident." he said and Katie just shook her head as she kept her eyes on her phone. "Me and my team were in Tibet tracking a lead on Darhk, and that lead brought us to Nanda Parbat." he looked over to his daughter, smiling at the woman who was the spitting image of her mother. "We were scouting the building, thinking we were being covert, and that's when she just appeared out of nowhere, we all turned, guns drawn on her and she didn't even bat an eye." the man laughed lightly. "She turned directly to me to tell my team to drop their weapons before they got hurt. I think I lost the ability to speak the moment I laid my eyes on her. I don't even think I formed a complete sentence before we were suddenly surrounded by league assassins." he smiled. "Your mother was fearless the first time I met her."
Katie lifted her eyes to the man before her phone beeped. She dropped her eyes to read the message before she turned her head in time to see Martin once again, this time leading Oliver inside. Once Oliver spotted her, he quickly came over.
"I'm so sorry." he said leaning forward and placing a kiss to her cheek. "I'll explain everything later." Oliver turned to Jacob, and couldn't help the glare that came to his face. "Jacob."
"Oliver, I wasn't expecting you tonight."
"I find it surprising that you thought I'd trust you alone with my wife after what you did." Oliver says dropping into the seat to Katie's right.
"I've already apologized, but as I explained before, at the time I thought it was the best. Especially since we didn't know how revealing her memories could effect her." Jacob said and Oliver just shook his head. Jacob turned back to Katie. "Honestly, I was only thinking of your wellbeing.
"No, that's not the complete truth is it?" Katie asked. "You also did it because you wanted the part of me who didn't remember all the terrible things you'd done. You wanted the me who still looked at you with only love." Katie shook her head before turning away. The table was quiet for a moment.
"So maybe I was selfish." Jacob said and Katie scoffed. "I can't change anything I've done, the only thing I can do is be here, right now, and show you that I'm here." she turned to him. "I'm right here."
"You have no idea how many times I wished you were sitting in front of me saying those words. The truth Jacob is, for so long I thought I would never hear those words because you were gone, dead and the dead don't speak. But you weren't dead, and you had years to show up and be there for me, to save me from years of sadness and guilt, but you made a choice. You need to come to terms with the fact that there is no undoing that. Not even with these dinners."
And the rest of the meal went just as it started. Awkwardly silent. Once the dinner was over, and Oliver and Katie were walking out to their cars, did Martin once again appear.
He stood leaning against Katie's car and the woman just rolled her eyes as she and Oliver walked over to him.
"I'm not really in the mood, Martin." Katie said and the man simply held out a flash drive. "What's this?"
"Don't be mad." Martin said and both Oliver and Katie looked at him in confusion. "With the appearance of Tobias Church and the attempts on the mayor's life-" Martin turned to Oliver. "We may have continued keeping tabs on you and your family."
"And I told you and Jacob to stay away from my family." Oliver said taking a step toward the man, only for Katie to grab his arm and pull him back.
"What is this?" Katie asked again and Martin turned to her.
"Not too long after your return, you both appeared on the cover of the Star City Gazzett, both articles hinting at both of you engaging in extra marital affairs with Annabelle Grey and Michael Carroll." he held up the drive. "This is a copy of the orignal photos and the messages attached to them when they were delivered."
"What do you mean when they were delivered?" Oliver asked.
"The newspaper didn't take these pictures. They were taken by an unnamed source. The same source took both pictures." Martin said and Oliver and Katie looked at him in confusion.
"Are you saying someone was following us, waiting for the opportunity to take a scandalous picture?" Katie asked and Martin turned to her with a nod.
"Were you able to identify the source?" Oliver asked and Martin turned to him with a shake of his head.
"Given this fact, the random stranger slipping things under your door, and the new found knowledge that your head of security might be a plant, and I would say the possibility that you two have a stalker doesn't seem that surprising." Oliver and Katie wanted to ask how the man knew information they hadn't shared, but figured Jacob's eyes and ears were still open.
"So you know all of this, but don't know who sent the pictures, who Steve is working for or even who this mysterious stalker is?" Katie asked and Martin turned to her with a shake of his head. "Well then Martin, I think we're going to respectfully say screw you and good night." and with that Katie turned, sliding into her car and driving off. Oliver let out a sigh before turning to Martin and taking the flash drive. He would have Felicity take a look to see if she would have any luck verifying what was on it.
"Do you think it's wise to keep Mr. Miller around?" Martin asked and Oliver looked over to him with a quirked brow. "You're hoping he'll lead you to whoever he's working for, but you have to see the risk in what could happen if that plan goes wrong."
"I have the situation under control Martin." Oliver says before turning for his car.
"At least take us up on the offer of some extra men." Martin says and Oliver stops and turns to him. "Couldn't hurt to have a couple of guys you actually trust."
"What makes you think I trust anyone from ARGUS?" Oliver asked with a shake of his head. "No thank you." and with that, Oliver stepped into his car and peeled off.
Martin stood there for a moment before walking back into the building. He entered the restaurant as everyone was standing to their feet and packing their things to leave. He walked over to Jacob who still sat in his chair.
"I gave them the flash drive. Hopefully Ms. Smoak has better luck finding out who it came from." Martin took a seat in the chair across from his boss. "He rejected the offer for extra security, I guess with time he could-"
"Assign a couple of agents" Jacob said looking over to the man. "Oliver thinks he knows what he's doing, but when it comes to the lives of my daughter, granddaughter and niece, I'm not taking any chances. "
"Are you sure you want to do that?" Martin asked and Jacob looked over to the man with a quirked brow. Martin knew to just nod. "Ok, I'll get some guys."
"Also get me everything on Miller. Something doesn't seem right. We vetted him before he was hired and he came back clean. I want to know how that boy scout got flipped." Jacob stood to his feet and looked around the restaurant as every one was leaving and everything was being cleared away. He shook his head. He had hope this illusion could seem real, and that he could actually have a normal dinner with his daughter. He was starting to see how tough that was going to be.
When Oliver walked into the house, he loosened his tie as he followed the distant sounds of voices toward the kitchen. He pushed open the door where he found his sister staring over to Katie who'd just pulled out a bottle of whiskey from the alcohol drawer.
"So I'm going to take a wild guess that tonight wasn't that great." Thea said looking between Oliver and Katie.
"It went as expected." Oliver said walked around the counter and grabbing the bottle before she could pour. "Do you want to talk? I doubt unleashing drunk Twinkie will make this situation any better."
"You never know until you know." she said reaching for the bottle only for him to pull it away. Katie let out a groan before turning around and shaking her head.
"Twinkie-"
"You know what, you don't get to be my shoulder right now." she said turning back to the man. "You forgot about the dinner and I had to go there by myself, after you promised you would be there with me for the whole thing." Oliver let out a sigh taking a step toward her and placing a hand on her arm only for her to push him away. She didn't want him to touch her, which meant she really was upset with him.
"I know, I'm so sorry. I did promise you, but-"
"Stop." she said and she just shook her head. "I'm sure you have the best excuse in the world Oliver. But all I see is that you had two options. Be there for me tonight, or be somewhere else, and you chose." she turned to Thea. "Thanks for watching Robyn tonight."
"It was no problem." Thea said. "Night," they watched Katie turned and headed upstairs. Thea turned back to her brother who dropped his head for a moment before looking over to his sister. "Ollie—"
"She's right. I was so focused on finding a phone and getting a lead on this guy that I forgot the promise I made to my wife."
"I think Twinkie was going to be upset no matter what happened tonight. Just apologize and I'm sure she will forgive you." Thea said before looking over to the clock. "I should get home."
"Thanks again Thea," Oliver said and Thea looked over to her brother with a slight smile.
"Seriosuly babysitting Robyn is like the highlight of my life. Seeing how big she's gotten, hearing her talk. I can't believe she's going to be a little one year old soon." Oliver let out a heavy sigh. "You're not going to go all crazy because she's getting older, are you?" Oliver looked over to her unamused. "Alright, I'm leaving. Remind me to start looking for giant bunny." Oliver looked over to her confused. "It's for the party."
"Wait," Oliver says turning away and closing his eyes. "I'm supposed to be doing something for the party. Twinkie gave me one job-" his eyes widen as he turned to his sister. "I forgot what it was." Thea looked over to him with a shrug of her shoulder.
"Sorry, I don't know either, but if I were you, I would figure it out quick before your wife finds out." with that Thea turned and left. Oliver stood there for a moment, racking his brain, but he was blanking. He'd spent so much time tracking this phone and trying to figure out who this Prometheus person was and what they were up to, that he'd forgotten the one thing Katie asked him do for the party. Oliver let out a sigh. The party was only a few weeks away, so hopefully he'd remember by then.
Oliver headed upstairs, first stopping by the nursery, peeking inside to see a sleeping Robyn in her crib. He slid his fingers gently through her curly hair and smiled. He remembered when she was so tiny, all pink and soft. Watching her grow up was nothing short of miraculous to him. Seeing this tiny human and her little personality was just beyond bizarre for him sometimes. He leaned down and placed a kiss to her head.
"Please stop growing up." he whispered in hopes that she would hear him and somehow grant his impossible wish.
Oliver stepped back in the hall, stopping outside of Ari's door, hearing the sound of her quiet laughter. He walked over, pushing her cracked door opened and she jumped up from the bed, her phone to her ear. Ever since she got it back, it was as if it were surgically attached to her ear or fingers.
"Hey, closed door means knock." she says,
"It's was partly opened, and whatever, it's late, so hang up and get ready for bed." Oliver said and the teen rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, the warden is back, I have to go." Ari said and Oliver just shook his head. "Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye." she hung up the phone and tossed it over on her bed before turning to Oliver. "Happy?"
"Estatic." he said about to leave.
"Where were you tonight?" Ari asked and Oliver stopped and turned back to her. "You weren't here when Katie left for that dinner with uncle Jay, which means you were preoccupied with something else. Something hero related?"
Oliver let out a sigh as he slid a hand over his face. Of course she'd ask the one question he didn't want her to ask forcing him to make another choice he didn't want to make. He either would have to tell the truth or lie. He looked at her for a moment, and decided.
"No, nothing like that. We were just looking into who could've killed Church, but we didn't find anything." Oliver said. It wasn't a complete lie. "Plus you shouldn't worry about it, we have it all under control." he once again turned to leave.
"Wait," she said and he stopped and turned back to her. "We agreed that I would take time out from the mask, but not completely. Which I have, so if something is up, as a member of the team, I would like to know."
"And you will, when there's something to tell. "Oliver said . "Now get to sleep, you have school tomorrow."
"Yeah, yeah." she said pulling back the covers and sliding underneath. "And just so you know, you don't have to go to that thing or whatever." Oliver turned to her with a quirked brow.
"What thing?" he asked and she turned to him with a furrowed brow and just shook her head.
"Uh, nothing, I'm confusing one thing with another thing, when it's actually just nothing. Forget I said anything." she said lying down and closing her eyes "Could you get the light?" Oliver stood there for a moment before flicking off the light and closing the door as he stepped into the hall. He stood there for a moment, once again racking his brain.
"What thing?" he whispered to himself. Did he really forget something else? He just shook his head before heading down to the bedroom. Oliver walked into the bedroom, hearing the sound of the shower. He turned to the bathroom, deciding to test his luck. He pulled off his jacket and tossed it on the bed, before walking to the bathroom as he unbuttoned his shirt.
Katie couldn't stop thinking about this disaster of a night as she let the warm water fall on the top of her head. She was torn from her thoughts at the sound of the shower door opening and she just shook her head.
"I'm still upset with you." she said lifting her head and letting the water fall on her face.
"I know. I guess I got distracted tracking this phone." Oliver said his hands moving to her waist and placing a kiss to her shoulder. She turned in his arms to face him.
"You really went chasing that phone? I thought we agreed that it was trap." Katie says and Oliver didn't say anything. "What happened?"
"Nothing. We found the phone, it rang and I finally talked to Prometheus, I think." he shook his head, his hands once again coming around her waist. "He left a message. The words, "And so it begins" we have no idea what it means."
"It probably means shits about to hit the fan." Katie says with a shake of her head. "How the team do on their first outing since Church?"
"You know I actually believed you when you said you wanted to take a step back from the mask." Oliver said and Katie looked at him for a moment.
"You just deflected from my question." she said looking back to the man. "You went on this crazy search for this phone into a trap alone, didn't you?"
"No, I wasn't alone." Oliver said and Katie waited for him to continue. "I had John." Katie scoffed before shoving him out of the way so she could step out of the shower. Oliver dropped his head once again before turning and following behind her. They both grabbed towels wrapping them around their bodies as they stepped back into the bedroom. "Twinkie-"
"I'm not having this conversation again Oliver. I literally don't think I'm mentally capable of having this conversation with you again." she walked over to her drawer, pulling it open and pulling out her nightgown and slipping it on.
"Nothing happened, we had the situation under control." Oliver says walking over to her, but she didn't say anything, verifying that she really wasn't going to talk to him about this. Oliver just shook his head before turning and heading back to the bathroom to finish his shower.
Later that night, Oliver laid in bed, eyes open on the ceiling. He doesn't think he's going to be getting any sleep. He looked over to Katie, her back to him, but he knows she's awake too.
"The team went through a lot with Church," Oliver said breaking the silence. "We don't know what we're getting into with Prometheus and John and I agreed that for right now, we just handle this on our own." he looked over to her wanting her to say something. "Twinkie-" he placed a hand on her arm, but she pushed him away before sitting up from the bed, grabbing her robe and pulling it on. "You're leaving?"
"I'm not tired." she muttered before standing to her feet and stalking out of the bedroom. Oliver watched her leave, and he let out a groan before he stood to his feet, pulled on a tshirt and went after her.
He found her in the kitchen, rummaging around the freezer until she pulled out a pint of her favorite mint chocolate ice cream. She turned to him and rolled her eyes before going to grab a spoon.
"Are you going to talk to me?" Oliver asked watching as she climbed onto the counter and began eating her ice cream. "Twinkie-"
"You should just get rid of them." Katie said digging her spoon into the ice cream. "John's back, so the original three are back in business. You should just get rid of the others."
"Why is it so hard for you believe that I know what I'm doing?" Oliver asked and Katie let out a snort. "Twinkie, you said you wanted to step away from this." she stopped eating and looked up to him. "I assumed that meant all aspects of the team." she looked at him for a moment, and from the way she was looking at him, he knows he said the wrong thing, he's just not completely sure why.
"You're right." she said with a slight shake of her head as she hopped from the counter and returned the ice cream to the freezer before turning back to him. "I told you that I thought that I should step away from the whole villain of the week life to focus on the happy, like planning a birthday party for my daughter." she let out a sigh. "So that's what I'm going to do." she turned to leave.
"Twinkie, you can't just walk away when this isn't fixed." Oliver said and Katie stopped, her back to him for a moment before she turned and walked back over to stand in front of him.
"You once told me that when I was in that coma, every time you left me, you were afraid that it was the last time you'd ever see me alive." she placed her hands on his chest and he brought his arms around her. "Oliver I'm afraid that every time you walk out of that door will be the last time I see you. So when you tell me that you just went off to who knows where to fight God knows who with just John watching your back, it's like you don't even care." she shook her head. "Five years ago, it was you, John and Felicity, crossing names off a list, taking the risks in stride. Today you're a husband and father and if something happened to you-" she felt the surge of emotion as that unspoken fear she usually just let fester inside of her finally come out. Oliver's grasp around her tightened as he pulled her as close to him as possible, their faces just a hairs breadth apart.
"Every move I make while I'm out there, I always keep in mind that I have to do whatever I need to do to make it back to you and our kids." Katie looked at him for a moment before she dropped her head to his chest. "John and I will figure out what the deal is with this Prometheus guy and then I will bring in the rest of the team, I promise." Katie closed her eyes and let out a sigh. This is why she didn't want to have this conversation because it would end just how it started.
"That's not how a team works." she said before pulling from his arms. "I'm going to bed." without a word, Katie turns and heads out of the kitchen leaving Oliver there alone. There was still a problem there between them that wasn't fixed and he didn't know what to do about it.
The next morning Ari sat at the table eating her cereal, her eyes looking between Katie and Oliver. Ari knew something was up when she hadn't witnessed their usual nauseating morning PDA. Oliver sat at the table beside Robyn, while Katie stood near the sink, sipping her coffee as she stared out the window.
"When am I getting that car you bought me for my birthday?" Ari said breaking the silence and both Katie and Oliver turn to her. "Thea already spilled the beans, and I figured I wasn't getting it after the fight, but I've paid my penance, so what's the hold up?"
"You know I thought you enjoyed us dropping you off at school?" Katie asked and Ari sent her a look. "Plus I let you drive when I take you."
"That's not it. I'm sixteen, and I have a drivers license. That's usually a right a passage in high school. I should be able to drive myself places without parental figures always around." she shook her head. "I doubt either of your parents drove you to school when you were my age." Oliver and Katie shared a look before turning back to the girl. "At least think about it, agree that I'm right and have the car waiting for me when I get out of school." she smiled innocently before letting out a huff. "Ok, I promise to drive safe, to always tell you where I'm going, to check in when I'm not here, or at school. No alcohol, hookers, or drugs."
"Hookers?" Katie just shook her head. "Look we'll think about it. Go get your stuff, we have to go." Ari let out a sigh before grabbing her bowl and taking it to the sink before heading upstairs to grab her backpack. Once she was gone, Katie looked over to Oliver for a moment before turning back to look out the window.
"What do you think?" he asked standing to his feet.
"I think she's smart. Logical. She usually makes smart decisions, but she's temperamental." Katie let out a sigh before turning to Oliver. "She also has a boyfriend, who I'm sure is the reason for her sudden request for independence." Oliver slid a hand over his face. "I mean we trust her with the knowledge of the vigilantism in the city, we can trust her with a car, right?" he looked over to her and his expression was answer enough and she let out a snort before heading over to pick up Robyn. "Lets get you cleaned up and ready for day care. Mommy has a day."
"More party plans?" Oliver asked and Katie turned to him with a nod. She'd been planning Robyn's party for the last couple of weeks and he was ashamed to say he had no idea how it was going. He's been occupied trying to figure out who'd killed Tobias Church and finding Prometheus that he hadn't really been a part of planning the birthday party. "How's that...going?" it felt strange asking the question. She looked at him for a moment and gave another nod.
"Fine. I've gotten a few RSVPs from some of the parents of kids from day care. I've gotten all of their food preferences, allergies, intolerances, do's and don't and can finally put in an order for the food. I have a couple of cakes I'm going to see, I still have to figure out a theme, if there's going to be a theme, Then I have to find decorations to match that theme, find her an outfit to go along with and-" she noticed the wide eyes look from the man and just let out sigh. "There's still a lot to do. Thea's helping, but she's been busy with work, Felicity was helping, but she's also busy helping you find your mystery guy." she shook her head. "The party isn't until next month, so that's more than enough time for me to make this the best party this little girl has ever seen." she placed a kiss to Robyn's head before looking over to Oliver. "I'm good."
"Did you want me to help at all?" Oliver asked and Katie didn't say anything for a moment.
"You have a lot going on, and I figured you'd be too busy. You're still panning out the details of the rezoning ordinances, actually-" she looked over to the clock. "Aren't you giving an interview in like an hour?" she turned back to Oliver and shook her head. "Plus you and John are finding your mystery villain, so I figured you wouldn't have the time to help with the party."
"I can cancel the interview." Oliver said walking over to her.
"Your interview is with Susan Williams, the woman you just made peace with, I don't think you should start canceling interviews with her. Seriously, I got everything under control." without another word she turned heading upstairs, leaving him with the words he'd spoken to her the night before. He wonders if it sounded as annoying when he said it.
Oliver would be lying if he said he wasn't a bit distracted. One would assume he was thinking about this mysterious new player, but nope, it was his wife and the fact that they still hadn't worked their way through the current rift and he hated it. At the moment he smiled as he sat in front of reporter Susan Williams, the camera pointed at him.
"It seems you've been putting in a lot of work to help this city Mr. Mayor and I'm sure the citizens of this city are very appreciative." Susan said. "But I would be remiss not to ask about another point of interest the city has for you. How is your family? Any news to share?" Oliver lightly chuckled. "I know you've made it a point to keep this job separate from your family life, so I understand if you don't want to answer that."
"No, it's fine. I appreciate everyone's concern and interest in the well-being of my familiy." Oliver said with a smile. "My family is fine. We're actually getting ready to celebrate our daughter's first birthday which is both exciting and scary at the same time." they laughed. "If you haven't guessed, I'm still coming to terms with the fact that she's no longer this tiny baby any more. Now she's this talking, crawling toddler, who I think secretly enjoys torturing me when she doesn't say any of the words I try to teach her to me, but says them to everyone else."
"Well it seems you have your hands full as both the mayor and a family man. "
"You have no idea." Oliver said.
When they wrapped up the interview, Oliver stood to his feet and walked Susan and her cameraman out of the office before turning to Thea and Quentin who stood off to the side watching.
"You two have looks. Do I even want to know what I did this time?" Oliver asked. Quentin and Thea shared a look before turning to him. "What?"
"Well nothing really." Thea said with a shake of her head. "The interview went good. She was taking it easy on you which means she's keeping up her end of the bargain of your whole one month deal." Oliver quirked a brow before turning to Quentin.
"You mentioned looking forward to Robyn's birthday, which is fine, you should look forward to your daughter's first birthday."
"Will one of you just come out with it." Oliver said.
"Ollie, you didn't mention Twinkie and the fact that the day after your daughter's birthday, you two will have been married for a year." Thea said and Oliver turned away slightly. She was right. Oliver remembered their anniversary, and yet in that moment, it didn't come to mind. Maybe it was because he and Katie hadn't even talked about it themselves. They'd been so focused on Robyn's birthday party that they hadn't even given any thought to their anniversary. "Look what you share about your family life is totally up to you, so if you didn't want to share that, than fine, I just thought in the event that Twinkie sees the interview you can explain why you didn't mention it." Oliver turned back to his sister, and just gives a wordless nod, not really sure what to make of all this. "Look I'm sure it's fine, but there's something I want to show you." she nudged her head for him to follow her to her office.
Katie sat at a table in the caterer's indoor bistro as she filled out the order form for the party. The sound of Oliver's voice caught her attention, and when she looked up she saw him on the television.
"No, it's fine. I appreciate everyone's concern and interest in the well-being of my family." Oliver said with a smile.
The image changed back to Susan who stood in front of City Hall.
"Yes, Mayor Queen has his hands full, but he seems to be handling it well so far. At least as the mayor. I have a feeling little Robyn Queen may give him a run for his money though." the woman smiled. "Back to you Jack."
Katie dropped her eyes back to the form, her eyes glancing down to her ring before shaking her head. She stood to her feet to give the manager the form. After leaving the caterer, Katie walked outside, her eyes down on her phone. The baker had sent more cake ideas, but she just couldn't decide. She stood at the curb about to cross the street when she felt the hairs on her neck stand up, she lifted her eyes and scanned around. Someone was watching her, and yet she couldn't spot them. She slipped her phone back into her purse before crossing the street to her car.
Katie couldn't help but think about Martin informing them that they were being stalked. She didn't want to believe him, but she also couldn't take the chance that he was right. She knew Oliver wouldn't either, which is why she knows he took that flash drive from Martin and he'd only give it to one person. That's why Katie ended up back at the bunker.
When the elevator doors opened, she walked out to find John and Felicity who turned to her as well.
"Hey," Felicity said walking over to meet as Katie came over to them. "Is everything alright?" she glanced over to John before turning back to her. "We just got the impression that we wouldn't see you around here that often."
"Oliver said you were stepping back." John said and Katie turned to him. "I thought it would be good for you after everything that happened."
"Yeah, well it sounded like a good idea in theory, but it isn't quite happening the way I thought." Katie said before turning to Felicity. "Did Oliver give you a flash drive to look over that he got from Martin?"
"Yeah, he did, but I haven't got around to checking it out just yet. There's been a lot happening around here." Felicity said.
"Right-" Katie says before turning to John. "You and Oliver off traspsing into potential traps without the rest of the team." John let out a sigh.
"Finally!" Felicity said and they turned to her. "I've been here saying the exact same thing. That they need to bring in the rest of the team. Especially since this guy doesn't seem to be letting up." Katie turned to her with a quirked brow. "He's killing people." Felicity nudged her head and Katie followed her over to the computer. "We've pinned the deaths of officer Conahan and Church to Prometheus, both with obvious reasons for why he would want to kill him"
"Conahan was a part of the ACU, hunting him and I'm guessing Church was making moves he didn't like." Katie said and Felicity gave a nod before bringing up two pictures.
"And then we have Gay Eked, divorced mother of two, and then Peter Meld, 38, cab driver. No logical connection to each other or Conahan or Church." Felicity said with a shake of her head. "All killed by a throwing star." Felicity looked over to Katie whose eyes were still on the screen.
"What are you thinking?" John asked.
"She had two kids, and now she's dead." Katie says closing her eyes and letting out a sigh. "That woman woke up this morning, not knowing that she wouldn't see her kids again." Katie shook her head before turning and beginning to pace. It was a move John and Felicity hadn't seen in a while. "They're all killed by a throwing star. It has to be a signature. Something that tie him to these murders." she stopped and turned to Felicity and John. "We need one of those throwing stars."
"That's easier said than done. None of us have access to evidence lock up." Felicity said and Katie turned away in thought. "You have an idea?"
"I have a long shot, but it just might work." Katie says before heading for the elevator. She stopped halfway there. "Four bodies might be a good time to bring in the rest of the team."
"Once again I agree." Felicity said as they looked over to John.
"We still don't know what we're dealing with and I think we should hold off until we do. We'll let them know when there's something to tell." he said and Katie shook her head. Of course him and Oliver would be singing the same tune.
"John we're dealing with murder." Katie says. "We're dealing with an unnamed, no-faced bad guy who is out there killing people in their homes, or while they're pumping gas. Right now that is the only information that's important. Stopping this guy and making sure no more kids lose their parents." Katie shook her head before stalking toward the elevator.
"You want to tell us what you plan on doing?!" he called after her.
"I'll tell you when there's something to tell." she said as the doors closed.
"Some things never change." John sighs turning to Felicity.
"That's not true. At least this time she told us before she went and did something crazy." Felicity said.
Katie walked into the bustling police station, pausing to take a moment to take in the fact that it had been a while since she'd last been here. She looked around, spotting the evidence bag with the bloody throwing star on one of the desks. She'd only a few steps before she heard her name.
"Katherine?" she looked up to see DA Adrian Chase. He said something to the officer to his right before coming over to Katie. "Hi, is everything alright?" She turned to the man and smiled.
"Yes, everything's fine, I just-" she shook her head as she looked around. "Something is happening, so you're obviously busy, I should go." she turned, but he grabbed her arm to stop her.
"It's fine, I can talk if you need something. I'm more than happy to listen." he turned. "We can talk in one of the offices if-" his phone rang and he groaned as he pulled it from his pocket. "I have to take this-" he looked up to her. "Give me one minute, and then we can talk."
"Sure, take your time." Katie says watching as the man walked off to answer the phone. Katie turned back to the desk, the evidence bag still there. She glanced around and it seemed everyone was too busy to even notice her, and so she subtly moved over to the desk, eyes still looking around making sure no one was watching her. She sat on the corner of the desk, her hand slipping behind her, grabbing the evidence bag and slipping it down the back of her pants, before pulling her shirt down to cover it. She stood to her feet and headed for the door, when she glanced over to see Adrian once again headed her way.
"I'm sorry about that, we can talk now." he said motioning for her to come with him.
"Actually, I'm just being weird and scared and-" she shook her head. "I heard about what happened to Tobias Church and I guess it made me nervous. I mean this guy tried to kill my husband and now someone has killed him. Are there any leads on what happened?"
Adrian sighed, "I'm sorry, I can't reveal any details on an active case, but you can be rest assured that we are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of this." Katie gave a nod. "Was that all you wanted to talk about?" Katie looked at him with a quirked brow. "For a second there I thought you took me up on my offer." Katie seemed confused for a moment before she remembered.
"You wanted to talk to me about my assistance in the capture of Damien Darhk."
"It's merely just for my curiosity. That entire case has been locked down tight, but one thing was made clear and that was none of it would've been possible without your help." the man gave her smile that for the life of her she couldn't return. She didn't want to think about Damien Darhk or anything that happened because of him.
"Yeah, well, I like to believe our fine SCPD officers helped more than I did." Katie said with a shrug. "There isn't really much to tell. I think the idea everyone has in their head about the whole thing is probably more interesting than the truth. I had an opportunity to help bring a criminal to justice and I took it. It ended up with him off the streets and me in a coma." she dropped her head.
"I'm sorry." Adrian placed a hand on her arm and Katie frowned slightly. It was move she felt he shouldn't make, but she also didn't want to misinterpret what could probably be just sympathy.
"It's fine." she said looking up to him with a smile as she took a step back from his touch, and nudged her head. "I should get going. I'm completely busy planning my daughter's birthday party and it's proving to be tougher than I thought it was going to be."
"That's right. I saw the Mayor's interview where he mentioned her birthday." Adrian said. "You know I think I remember a while back reading somewhere that you two got married the day after your daughter was born."
"That's right. In that moment we felt that it was the right move for us." Katie said.
"That sounds nice." he said. "I don't think he mentioned that during the interview." Katie looked at him for a moment and just shrugged.
"I'm sure it just slipped his mind. He has a lot going on right now."
"You're probably right." the man said with a laugh. "Well if you change your mind, and decide you want to put me out of my misery, and finally give me low down on that case, I'm here or at City Hall." he pulled his business card from his pocket and handed it to her. "Call me any time." Katie just gave the man a nod before turning and leaving.
Katie didn't want to think about the numerous charges that could be filed against her for what she'd just done. Mostly because, we'll she'd done a lot worse, so stealing evidence wasn't that big of a deal, especially if it helped lead to a killer. She dropped the throwing star off to Felicity for analysis before heading back home.
She pulled into the driveway, and sat there for a moment. With her eyes closed, she dropped her head back on the seat and let out a deep breath. Even though she doesn't regret what she'd done, she can't help but feel as if this was the opposite of what she should be doing. She wanted to come to terms with the last couple of months, forgive herself for the part she played in the harm that was caused, but she just couldn't get away from stepping back into the vigilantes' world. There was a knock on her window and she opened her eyes turning, her jaw clenched slightly at the sight of their guard they were now aware was planted in their lives by someone. Oliver seemed to think that they shouldn't reveal their knowledge just yet, in hopes that after monitoring him, he leads them to who he works for. She's just not sure how much longer she could take knowing what he was doing and not punching him in the face. She turned grabbing her bag before stepping out of the car.
"Mrs. Queen." he greeted.
"Steve." she said as she headed for the door.
"Mrs. Queen?" he said and she stopped letting out a sigh before turning to the man. "I understand the cutbacks on our duties stems from the issues that happened under me and my team's watch. I want you to know that we can do better. There are still threats out there from people who don't agree with your husband or the work he's doing as mayor. Reducing the level of security right now-"
"It's late Steve." Katie says interrupting the man. "I'm going to go inside." the man didn't say anything, but gave a nod before watching as the woman walked inside of the house. Something wasn't right. Steve knew it, and he also knew that however this ended, he wasn't going to make it out unscathed as he was promised.
Katie walked through the door just as Oliver was coming down the stairs. He looked over to her with a furrowed brow.
"I heard you had a plan you didn't share with anyone." Oliver said and Katie just pulled off her jacket and hung it up before heading into the kitchen. "Do you want to tell me where you were?"
"I went to the police station." Katie says walking over to the refrigerator and pulling out a bottle of water before turning to Oliver. "Did you check Ari's progress report today?"
Oliver let out a sigh. She was deflecting. "Why were you at the police station?"
Katie took a sip of her water. "We made a deal that if her grades came back up and there was no more fighting, then she could jump back on the team with whatever they were working on, which I figure will probably be Prometheus." Katie turned to him and he didn't say a word. He was waiting for her to tell him the truth. "I went to the police station to steal the throwing star that was found in the latest victim. I gave it to Felicity in hopes that it gives us something on this guy." she waited for him to respond, but he didn't say anything.
"You're joking?"
"No, but I did come up with a funny joke recently. What does the Green Arrow put in his bevarages?" she asked and he just continued to look at her unamused.
"Are you telling me that you went to the police station and stole evidence? What if you were caught?"
"I had the situation under control." she said with a slight tone before she turned and headed upstairs. She walked down the hall, stopping at Ari's door and giving a knock before it opened to Ari who did a little dance as she held up her progress report. Katie took it from her hand to look it over. As she expected all of her teachers gave her high marks.
"I kept up my end of the deal." Ari said looking over to Oliver who walked over. "So tell me, what's been going on?"
"Nothing." Oliver said with a shake of his head as he looked over the progress report. "This is really good Ari." he smiled as he looked over to the girl. "This also shows us that your grades improve when there's nothing else to distract you."
"No, my grades improve when I learn to focus on one thing at time, which I can do. I can be in school and focus on my school work and I can be Fire Light, and be kick ass at that. I can find a balance between the two."
"So school and the team," Katie says looking over to the girl. "What about Jamie? Where does he fall within this balance." Ari just shook her head.
"I mean, I'm sure we can find time to hang out. Plus he's on like so many academic teams at school, he barely has time to hang out. "
"And you joining an academic team-"
"Why would I want to join some stupid academic team when I can be on a team that stops bad guys?" Ari asked.
"You know once upon a time, every move you made was about how it would get you into a good college." Katie says. "I don't want you to get so caught up in all of this that you stop thinking about your future. College, great job, going to medical school and becoming a doctor." Ari and Oliver turned to her. "Whatever, you or Robyn will continue the medical legacy." she placed a kiss to Ari's head. "Homework, bed, and don't use all of your unlimited minutes talking to Jamie." Katie turned and headed off down the hall. Ari turned to Oliver.
"So any thoughts on me getting that car?" Ari asked and Oliver dropped his eyes to the progress report that showed better grades than he'd gotten when he was in high school. He let out a sigh of defeat. She really put in the work and got it done and there was no reason he shouldn't give her the car. He looked back up to her.
"Ari, no speeding, running stop signs or red lights. No drinking, no drugs, no car filled with people. You're only allowed one passenger and that person must remain silent throughout the drive. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but definitely no hookers." Ari jumped up in excitement as she threw her arms around Oliver who hugged her back. "Ari, this is a lot of responsibility. I'm trusting you to be safe and to make smart decisions." she pulled back and looked up to him.
"Oliver, I promise. You can trust me." she smiled widely. "I have tell Jamie!" she turned and headed over to grab her phone.
"Don't forget your homework!" Oliver called, she just nodded before heading back over and closing her door. Oliver dropped his head before turning at the sound of tiny giggles from down the hall. He smiles as he walked over to the nursery where he found Katie rocking Robyn in her arms, but the girl didn't seem tired at all.
"I think they filled her with sugar in day care." Katie says looking over to Oliver who stood at the door with a smile as he watched them. Katie looked down to Robyn who was squirming in her lap. "Looks like you're coming with me." Katie brought her up before standing to her feet and heading out of the nursery.
"So are we going to talk about the felony you just committed?" Oliver asked following her toward the bedroom.
"Not unless we plan on talking about all of yours." Katie replied as she placed Robyn in the middle of the bed where the girl immediately began jumping up and down. Oliver shook his head as he watched her. Katie kicked off her shoes before sliding on to the bed, looking over to the child as she jumped up and down, hoping she would tire herself out. Oliver walked over to lay on the opposite side of the bed, Robyn still jumping in the space between them.
"I don't like this place we're in." Oliver said looking over to Katie who was still watching their daughter. She turned to him and reached over to place a hand on his arm.
"Oliver I think we're still figuring out how this all works." she said. "You, being the mayor and the Green Arrow, and a husband and a father." she sighed turning back to Robyn who stopped jumping and let out a yawn before dropping down on her butt. "Then there's me whose having a total internal crisis, trying to figure my way out of it, maybe figuring out if I want to practice medicine again, or try to take back RI." she looked over as Robyn laid her head on Katie's stomach, while her feet rested on Oliver's arm. "To raising a soon to be one year old and a driving sixteen year old." she looked over to Oliver whose hand brushed against his daughter's foot before looking over to Katie.
"It's really tough." he whispered looking over to Robyn whose eyes were slowly blinking into sleep. He looked back over to Katie. "And I'm sorry if it ever felt like I wasn't here for this—for our family and the important moments. Because of everything I do, it's those moments I really want to be in, I just-" he dropped his head back on the pillow. "I'm afraid the moment I turn my back-"
"The whole world will get swallowed up?" she asked and Oliver looked over to her. "If only you had a team that could pick up the slack for when you wanted to take a step back and help me plan this totally awesome toddler birthday party." Oliver carefully shifted his body to bring his hand over to rest on Katie's waist.
"You're right." He said.
"I usually am, but it takes you a while to figure that out sometimes." she said dropped her hand down to his.
"I am going to help with Robyn's party. I promise." Oliver said holding her gaze. "And the next day we are going to celebrate the fact that we made it a year as husband and wife." Katie smiled and the sight as always, took his breath away.
"I thought you forgot. I mean our anniversary didn't make it in your interview with Ms. Williams." Katie said and Oliver sighed.
"So you saw the interview?" he asked and she gave a nod. "Thea pointed out afterward that I didn't mention our anniversary either. " Oliver smiled at the light snores that came from Robyn as she seemed to maneuver her self between them, now slipping in to the space between them. "It really wasn't a conscious omission. Maybe I just didn't want the questions that would've followed. The what are we planning to do, where are we going, have I gotten you a gift yet."
"Have you gotten me a gift yet?" Katie asked suddenly and Oliver just chuckled. "I get it Mr. Queen. We opened the door to our world and now everyone wants to know everything. Especially with us, which is weird. We're just a normal married couple." she looked over to him once again and they just quietly laughed. Soon the silence of the room brought along the exhaustion. It was Katie who broke the silence. "Just ice," she said and Oliver looked over to her in confusion and she turned to him. "What does the Green arrow put in his beverages. Just Ice. Get it?"
"No," he said with a shake of his head as he sat up and picked up Robyn.
"C'mon, Just Ice."
"You keep saying that and I still don't get it." he replied as he carried the child back to the nursery.
Oliver's morning started with hard swat to his chest that caused his eyes to shoot open. The sound of a groan caused him to turn to Katie who he just realized was tossing and turning in what looked like a nightmare. He quickly sat up, and brought a hand to her cheek.
"Twinkie, you're fine. I'm right here. It's ok." he said, but she continued tossing and turning.
"No, you can't...you can't...just-" she muttered before her eyes snapped open to see Oliver above her looking down to her. "Do I want to know?"
"You were having a nightmare." Oliver said still staring down in concern. He pushed her hair from face. "Do you want to talk about it?" Katie closed her eyes and let out a deep breath.
"Not really." she said opening her eyes to look up at him. "I think I just want to lay here with you a little bit longer." he didn't want to drop it. He wanted her to talk to him about what was going on in her head. But he simply let out a sigh before lying back in bed and pulling her closer to him. Katie wrapped an arm around his middle, and laid her head on his chest. The room fell into a comfortable silence.
"Do you think we should get a dog?" Katie asked suddenly. Oliver was still in a state between consciousness and unconsciousness so he wasn't completely sure he heard her correctly.
"Wha-" he looked down to her. "A dog?"
"I mean yeah, normal families have dogs named Spot or Sparky or Rascal."
"Rascal?" Oliver let out a snort, figuring this conversation was also the product of his wife's lack of a good night's sleep. "Do you really think we could fit a dog in our lives right now?" he waited for her to answer, but she didn't say anything. "Twinkie?"
"No, you're right." she muttered, snuggling closer to him. "Stupid idea."
"Twinkie, it's not-" they heard the sound of Robyn calling for her mama.
"The youngest Queen beckons me." Katie says pulling from Oliver's grasp to check on the child.
Oliver was worried about his wife. He silently watched her as she fed Robyn her cereal. The sound of the kitchen door opening caught his attention and he turned to see Ari, and he nearly choked on his coffee. She looked over to him with a furrowed brow.
"What?" she asked.
"Your face." was all Oliver could say. Katie looked over to him in confusion before turning to Ari and she let out a laugh.
"You're wearing make-up." Katie says and Ari turned to her, pushing her hair behind her ear. The teen was just wearing lip gloss and a little blush and eye shadow."You look nice." she looked over to Oliver who was still staring at the teen as if she had two heads. Katie turned, grabbing a few pieces of cereal and chucking them at Oliver snapping him out of his daze. He turned to her and she gave him a look that he understood before turning back to Ari and giving her a smile.
"You look-" his phone vibrated in his pocket and he honestly felt relieved by the interruption. It was a text from his sister telling him to get to City Hall asap. "I have to get to work." he looked back over to Ari who just shook her head.
"I'll grab breakfast at school." she said before turning and leaving the kitchen.
"Drive safe!" Katie called after her. She turned to Oliver who looked back over to her seeing the glare on her face.
"What?" he asked and Katie just shook her head. Oliver let out a sigh before walking over a placing a kiss to the top of Robyn's head. He turned to Katie who looked over to him. "Were you serious about the whole dog thing?"
"Woof, woof!" Robyn suddenly said and Katie turned to her with a smile. She shook her head before turning back to Oliver.
"I was half asleep and wasn't making any sense." Katie says. "You were right, we have way too much going on right now for a dog. " she turned back to Robyn. "Plus we have a young Queen here who is going to be one soon." she let out a snort before turning back to Oliver. "It was crazy morning talk. Now kiss me goodbye and then go deal with your crisis." Oliver looked at her for a moment before dropping his lips to hers in a kiss that was supposed to be quick, and yet his fingers slid into her hair deepening the kiss. His phone vibrated again, and he groaned in annoyance before pulling away to glance down to see it was another text from Thea for him to get to City Hall. "Duty calls." she turned back to meet her eyes and he let out a sigh.
"I wish I could spend the day with you." He turned to Robyn and placed a kiss on top of her head. "I wish I could take you to Day care." he turned back to Katie. "I wish I could help plan the best toddler birthday party ever." he turned when he heard the front door close and he let out a sigh. "I wish I could follow Ari to school to make sure she gets there safe."
"Sounds like you need a genie." Katie says with a smile. Oliver once again met her eyes before letting his lips fall to hers, and she reached up, placing her hand on his cheek. "Go, before I never let you go."
"That's not much of a threat, Mrs. Queen." Oliver's hands came around her waist, tugging her to stand. His phone vibrated again, and this time he didn't look because he already knew who it was. He dropped his head to her shoulder and she pressed a kiss to his cheek as she slid a hand through the back of his hair. Leaving was the last thing Oliver wanted to do right now, and yet he knew he had to. That with the amount of messages from Thea meant there really was a crisis happening and yet he was so tempted to say screw it all.
"Ok-" he pulled back from the hug. "Call me if you need me. Call me if you don't need me, but just want to talk." he looked over to Robyn who was happily digging in her cereal with her hands. "Robyn, make sure mommy calls daddy." the girl looked up over to him with a toothy grin before just yapping away. Oliver smiled before looking back down to Katie. "I will see you later."
"Do whatever you have to do to make sure you see me later." Katie said.
"Always." and with one final kiss, Oliver finally found the willpower to pull himself from her grasp. "Ok, I'm going." he placed another kiss to Robyn's head. "I love you."
Once he was gone, Katie went back over to her seat beside her daughter who went back to sloppily feeding herself.
"Is this your way of telling me you don't need me?" the girl just looked up to her mother with a smile. "You can't get rid of me that easy." Katie grabbed a spoon, but stopped when she heard the sound of the doorbell. She turned back to Robyn with a quirked brow. "Wonder who that could be." she stood to her feet before picking up Robyn in her arms and heading to see who was at the door. She stopped a few feet from the door, thoughts of stalkers, and weird guys named Prometheus and suddenly she was nervous to open the door. She glanced down to her daughter before turning back to the door, just as the doorbell once again rang. Katie took a slight step back.
"Robins, it's me!" a voice called from the other side of the door and Katie let out a huff as she stared at it. "I know you're there!" she scoffed before stepping forward and pulling open the door. Bruce looked from Katie to Robyn, smiling at the child he hadn't seen in a while.
"Why are you here?" Katie asked and Bruce turned to her.
"We need to talk." Bruce said and Katie shook her head before reaching forward to close the door, but Bruce quickly reached up to stop her from closing the door. "We're talking Robins." he slipped inside of the house. "Is there coffee?" Katie turned and watched as he headed for the kitchen.
Katie and Bruce found themselves sitting across from each other at the kitchen table, Robyn in the high chair across from them finishing her cereal.
"I sort of have a day, so if you wanted to talk you should probably start talking." Katie said.
"Fine, how are you doing?"
Katie shook her head, "We're not doing that."
"Doing what? I haven't spoken to you in weeks, so I want to know how you're doing after everything."
"Well you don't get to know that. Not anymore." she said sitting back in the seat. "Was that all?"
"Look I'm sorry. I wish to hell things didn't go down the way they did, but in the end everyone got the answer we were looking for. We needed to know that thing was gone Robins. We needed to know we wouldn't have to-"
"Plot my murder again?" she asked and he let out a sigh. "Fine, Bruce, you're right. You guys got what you wanted."
"What we wanted." Bruce said turning to her. "We just wanted to make sure you were alright."
"I'm not, and I probably never will be." she replied honestly. "My life will probably never be the same because some sick and twisted monster put a bad thing in me that made me do terrible things. Things I get to dream about, things I got to hallucinate about, and there's nothing I can do to change that. So I'm glad you all got your answers, and I'm glad the world is safe, but I came out the other end of this broken and none of you seemed to consider that a possibility." she tasted a salty tear on her lips and she turned only now realizing that she was crying.
"Robins, I'm sorry."
"Your apology doesn't help me Bruce." she turned back to the man. "I think you should go." Bruce didn't move and Katie let out a sigh as she shook her head.
"Do you remember the times when we were kids, you would always follow me around and I used to hate it." Katie turned away from his eyes. "I used to ask my mom why did I always have to hang out with you. You were a baby, and a girl and boring and you never wanted to do any of the things I wanted." Bruce smiled. "And my mom told me that none of that mattered, because we were family. I was older and I needed to look out for you and make sure you didn't get into any trouble." she refused to look at him at this point. "We don't share any blood Robins, but you're the closest thing I have to a sister. No, at this point Robins, you are my sister. One of the people in my life that I would sacrifice everything to protect." she didn't say anything. "So you're not going to get rid of me that easily. I'm here, I will be here whenever you're ready to be Wayne and Robins again. " with that he stood to his feet and left.
Bruce stepped outside and paused for a moment letting out a deep breath. He looked up, spotting Steve who glanced over in his direction. Felicity told him that they weren't revealing the truth to Steve in hopes that he leads them back to who he was working for. Bruce thought it was a stupid idea and that tying the bastard up in the basement and beating the crap out of him until he talked would be quicker. But it wasn't his decision. And so he walked over to his car and slipped inside. He let out a sigh as he turned to the passenger side to see someone who wasn't there when he got out.
"What the hell are you doing in my car, Constantine?"
"Well I wanted to see how it went, mate." Constantine said glancing over to the house. "The first conversation. How did it go?"
"It went as I expected it to go. She's angry." Bruce said with a shake of his head. "We went into her head looking for something that wasn't there and we didn't think about how that would effect her."
"Who says we didn't?" Constantine says looking over to Bruce with a furrowed brow. "What? She's sad, angry, guilty. Those are the expected emotions for someone whose gone through what she's gone through. Her problem is she's used to being able to run from those emotions, now she can't and that's why she's angry with the people who brought her back."
"What do you mean she can't?" Bruce asked and Constantine looked over to the man.
"She can't because everything around her is a reminder of what she did. Her husband, her kids, hell this whole city." the man turned back to the house and Bruce saw the look on his face.
"I'm pretty sure she'd hurt you if you appeared on her door step." Bruce said and Constantine just chuckled as he continued looking into the house.
"I don't think she would." the man replied.
Ari was actually pretty happy. She drove herself to school, felt the stares as she pulled into the parking lot, in her shiny red BMW and just knew they envied her and she was not ashamed to admit she loved it. School was a drag, nothing much really happening. After her last class, she leaned against the wall outside of the gym scrolling through her phone.
"I think I like this thing we got." a voice said and she looked up with a smile to see Jamie. "You waiting for me so we can walk out together." he lifted his arm and she looped her arm with his as they walked down the hall. "I think I kind of like having you as a girlfriend, Locke."
"You're such a dork," she said, hoping the affects of his words weren't showing on her face. "So I was thinking, what if you skipped debate, and we go hang out at that new outdoor mall." she looked over to him and she could see the guilt in his eyes. "You're such a boy scout. What would happen if you skipped one debate meeting?"
"This isn't just one meeting. Regionals are coming up and we all have to come to these practices to prep. We want to make sure we keep the title of Regional champs for another year." he looked over to Ari and he could tell she wasn't too happy. "I'm sorry, maybe we could check it out this weekend?"
"I guess." she says as they stopped in front of the auditorium. She turned to him and shrugged. "I guess I will talk to you later then." she turned, but he grabbed her arm and pulled her into his embrace.
"You know it's not too late for you to join the team." Jamie said and Ari let out a snort.
"I don't think so." she said turning to the boy. "It's fine. We'll hang out later. Go debate your ass off." he looked down to her before pressing a kiss to her lips, but it only lasted a minute before they heard the sound of someone clearing their throat. They pulled apart, and turned to see Principal Harris.
"Ms. Locke, school is over. You need to get home." the principal said before turning to Jamie. "And you should be heading into your practice."
"Yes sir." Jamie says pulling away from Ari. "Call you later?" the girl just gave a nod before watching him head inside of the auditorium. She stood there a moment before turning to Principal Harris who was still watching her.
"Alright, I'm leaving." she said before heading down the hall.
"Ms. Locke!" the principal called and Ari stopped and turned to him. "You're not a part of any extracurricular activities."
"Yeah, I kind of got a lot going on already. I don't think I could pile on being in some club or whatever."
"Well I would think about it. Colleges look for students who are well rounded and use their free time constructively. You're a smart girl Arianna, I want you to make sure you're paving the way for every opportunity you can." the man turned and headed back down the hall. And Ari let out a sigh before heading out the door. She was halfway to her car when her phone buzzed. She pulled out her phone to see the notification. She frowned when she opened up the notification to see the story of someone the news was calling the "Throwing Star Killer" and her eyes went wide. She ran to her car.
Ari jumped out of her car the moment she pulled up to the hide out and she rushed inside of the bunker. In the elevator, she continued reading the story about this guy who'd already killed a few people with throwing stars for the last couple of days. There was a new notification. She opened it up, her eyes going wide. Apparently the star throwing guy was at the outdoor mall. She shook her head as the elevator doors slid open and she came to a stop when she stepped out and saw the team all dressed in their gear as if about to leave.
"Ari, what are you doing here?" Oliver asked and Ari held up her phone.
"The crazy guy out killing people with throwing Stars is at the mall." she said looking around to the other. "Which I assume is where you're going." she turned back to Oliver. "Why didn't you call me?" Oliver looked at her for a moment but didn't say anything.
"We have to go." Oliver said looking over his shoulders to the others and nudging his head. They all started heading out and Oliver turned back to Ari. "Ari-"
"I'm getting dressed and I'm coming." she said pushing passed him toward her suit.
Katie was trying her best to just focus on anything other than the conversation she'd had with Bruce this morning. She tried her best to ignore those emotions the conversation had pulled out of her. Her distraction came in the form of shopping for the party. She'd been to a couple of shops and ended up at the new outdoor mall. She didn't expect the place to erupt in craziness. She had no idea what was happening, but she thinks she heard someone scream that "He" was here. She would've headed back to her car, but she heard gun shots and she turned at the sight screaming men, women and children and she couldn't run away. She dropped the bags, before running over and helping a man to his feet who seemed to have been knocked down.
"You need to get out of here, go!" she ushered him in a clear path and continued moving through the crowd, trying to help people to safety. She saw a man with a gun and people around him were running and screaming. "Hey!" the man turned the gun toward her and she held up her hands. "You need to put the gun down."
"I have the right to protect myself from this bastard!" the man said still firmly holding the gun in his hand as he looked around. Katie frowned slightly as she looked around as well trying to see who he was talking about.
"You do, but when people see a guy with a gun, panic ensues as you can see." Katie says easing toward the man. "Whoever you're trying to protect yourself from probably isn't even here."
"No, he's here. They saw him."
"Saw who?"
"The throwing Star killer!" the man said still looking around, his gun still in hand. "He's killed four people so far and I will not be next." Katie turned slightly. He was talking about Prometheus. She looked around in case the man really was here, but she didn't see anyone. Just lots of scared people. She shook her head before turning back to the man.
"Hey, look at me." Katie said and the man turned to her, now seeing that she'd moved in a bit closer to him.
"I know you. You're-" he leaned in a bit to see her face clearly. "You're Katherine Queen."
"I am, and I really need you to put the gun aw-" she turned at the sound of gun fire from somewhere else and the man whipped his gun around, but Katie turned grabbing his arm, before jerking her elbow into his gut, taking the gun and swinging a foot under his legs causing him to fall flat on his back. She let out a huff when she heard foot steps behind her and she instinctively turned the gun toward the sound. It was Oliver. Well it was Oliver as the Green Arrow. She dropped the gun. "Is he here?"
"No, I don't think so. Are you aright?" he asked taking a step toward her, but she held up a hand to stop him. He stopped because he knew he wasn't supposed to be Oliver Queen in this moment.
"I'm fine." she replied when she heard the sound of sirens and turned. "You have to go." she turned back to the Green Arrow who didn't move a muscle as he looked at her. "He's not here, you can go. I will find you later." Oliver reluctantly began moving away before turning and running off. Katie turned when she saw the police cars pull up and she slowly lowered the gun before holding up her hands as they approached.
Oliver stalked into the bunker, placing his bow in it's case before going over to Felicity.
"Anything?"
"I haven't found any signs that Prometheus was actually there." Felicity said. "Twinkie was there. Is she ok?" she noticed his jaw clench and she's sure he probably wishes he stayed with her. "Oliver you had to leave. That's how this works. If you stayed—"
"I know." Oliver said before turning and looking over to the map of the city.
Ari pulled off her mask, tossing it on the table before stretching her aching muscles.
She looked over to where Rene, Evelyn, Curtis and Rory stood, waiting for Oliver to return. They were talking, but she couldn't hear them, so she walked over and they immediately stopped.
"What?" Ari said.
"You're going to really stand there and play dumb?" Evelyn asked and Ari looked over to her in confusion. "You knew about this guy and didn't say anything."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Ari asked looking between them. "I found out about this throwing star guy from the news and when I came here everyone was already going after him without even telling me about it." Ari shook her head. "I was just as out of the loop with this as all of you."
"I don't believe you." Evelyn said and Ari scoffed.
"I don't give a shit what you believe." she replied as they turned to see Oliver, John and Felicity heading over.
Oliver expected their anger, but right now there wasn't time for it.
"Yeah, why is this the first time we're hearing about a serial killer operating in the city?" Rory asked and their eyes once again turned to Oliver who let out a sigh.
"He calls himself Prometheus. He's the one who killed Tobias Church." Oliver said and they all looked at him in confusion.
"Did you know about this?" Curtis asked looking over to John who didn't say a word. It was an answer though. "He knew about this." Curtis turned back to Oliver. "Why didn't we know about this?!"
"You know about him now, so let's get to work." Oliver said before turning and stalking away. He pulled his phone from his pocket, worried Katie hadn't call him yet. He wasn't going to wait any longer, and so he called her.
Katie sat in the empty office, her face buried in her hands. The guy from the mall told the cops that she attacked him and took his gun and so the police brought her in to be questioned. She gave the officer her statement. The guy was waving the gun around, people were scared, he wouldn't put it away and so she disarmed him. She probably should've lied because since giving the statement, she'd been sitting in this office without a word from anyone.
Her phone vibrated in her purse and she reached inside, sighing at the sight of Oliver's name. She answered and brought the phone to her ear.
"I'm fine." she said answering the question she knows he's going to ask.
"Where are you?" Oliver asked.
"Still at the police station." she said glancing over to the clock. She'd officially been waiting for an hour. "The last I heard the guy who I took the gun from was attempting to press charges against me for assault I guess."
"I'm on my way."
"That'll go over well. The city is going to hell because of the throwing star killer, and the mayor only shows his face to bail his wife out of jail."
"I don't care, I'm not going to let them hold you in jail for stopping some idiot with a gun. I'll be there in ten minutes."
"Liver, seriously, I'm fine. The officers seemed to understand what was happening from my statement, so I don't think any charges will stick. Any leads?"
"Nothing yet, but Felicity, Curtis and Ari are working on it." she heard him sigh. "So she's not happy with me."
"I doubt any of them are right now."
"Why do I feel a "I told you so" coming along?"
"I told you so's are pointless. They don't change anything." she glanced over to the clock once again and sighed.
"You know all I have to do is make a call and you're out of there, right?" Oliver said and Katie smiled. "It's no problem at all."
"Except you shouldn't be using your position for something like this. I did nothing wrong."
"Unless you've been waiting in the police station because the last time you were there you committed a felony." Oliver said and Katie slightly frowned only now considering that possibility. "I'm making that call."
"Don't. Right now we don't know anything, so before your name becomes another headline, let's just see if I'm walking out of here on my own or if you're going to be my one phone call."
"I don't see how you can joke right now."
"Oh! Actually, I did make another joke. What does the Green Arrow wear with his suit?"
"I want you to call me when you know something." Oliver said and Katie sighed. "If I don't hear from you in-" he looked at his watch. "Thirty minutes, I'm showing up to the police station and I will get you myself."
"A bow tie!" Katie said with a slight chuckle. "Get it?" Oliver just let out a sigh. "You know I may have to find a husband who laughs at my jokes."
"Good luck with that." Oliver said and Katie heard the lightness in his tone. She could see the smile on his face she knows he probably needs right now. She heard him sigh again.
"I'm fine." she says again knowing that was his current concern.
"I may not believe that until I actually see you." Oliver said and Katie smiled. "I talked to Robyn's daycare. John was able to get Lyla to pick her up for us." Katie didn't say anything, her thoughts straying back to the last time she saw the woman. "Is that alright?"
"Sure, of course. Tell her thank you." Katie says dropping her face back to her palm. She sat there, phone pressed to her ear, and it was strangely comforting. "Do you have to go?"
"At the moment, no." Oliver replied and Katie smiled. "What were you doing at the mall today?"
"Shopping. Hoping to forget-" she stopped herself, knowing telling Oliver about Bruce showing up would probably upset him.
"Forget what?"
"Bruce came by the house today when everyone was gone."
"You're joking? I specifically told him to stay away from you." Oliver snapped angrily. "I guess he didn't get the message. I'll fix that."
"Don't, it's fine. We talked and I doubt he'll make anymore unannounced visits. He just wanted to apologize and I guess seeing him just triggered something." she sat back in her seat. "For a brief moment, I was the villain, and a team of heroes needed to band together to figure how to kill me." she couldn't stop thinking about that.
"I wouldn't have let that happen." Oliver replied and Katie turned with a smile. She heard the conviction in his voice. The certainty of his tone. He believed the words. She believed she was only alive because of dumb luck.
"That's sweet. My next husband will be sweet while laughing at my jokes." Katie said and this time she heard him laugh. The door behind her finally opened and she lifted her head and turned to see DA Adrian Chase. "I have to go. I'll call you and if the next number on your caller ID is unknown, answer and accept the charges." Katie said.
"You're not funny. Thirty minutes start now." Oliver said and Katie sighed and ended the call.
"I don't know if seeing you is a good thing or a bad thing." she said as he handed her a cup of water. "Am I being arrested?"
"Not today." the man said talking a seat on the edge of the desk in front of her. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. Just didn't expect a day of shopping to turn into a scene from an action movie." she says taking a sip from the cup before looking back over to him. "What happened?"
"The news broke the story about this guy we think may be behind some murders and it lead to mass panic as I was afraid it would." Adrian shook his head. "No one was even there but trigger happy idiots." he turned back to her. "I hear you disarmed one of those idiots."
"Yeah, I just shoved him when he wasn't looking and kicked the gun away." she lied and he looked over to her with a quirked brow. "I thought he was going to hurt someone."
"As noble as that is, it was also extremely dangerous. Attacking a guy with a gun—you should've ran to safety."
"I should've." she sighed taking another sip of water.
"You know Katherine, I'm starting to think you may have a hero complex." he said and she let out snort as she looked over to him. "And so far you've been lucky, but luck doesn't last forever and at some point your luck is going to run out. So the next time you see a guy with a gun, you get yourself to safety and you let the police handle the bad guy."
"Ok, noted. So is the guy not pressing charges?"
"We talked, and I think I was able to convince him that what you did actually saved his life. The guy had just got the gun, and was barely trained to use it. He was going to hurt someone tonight and because of you, he gets to go home instead of spending the rest of his life in prison. He agreed."
"So I'm free to go? I'm sure my husband is waiting for me and is probably freaking out right now." Katie stood to her feet and handed the man the cup. "Thank you."
"For what?" Adrian asked standing as well.
"For helping find the bad guys." she said before turning, but Adrian caught her arm stopping her. She turned to him with a quirked brow.
"Did you need a ride home, because I could-" Katie shook her head.
"No, that's fine, I can-" his hand was still grasping her arm, and Katie had became aware of the fact and it was yet another moment she didn't want to misinterpret the act. He was being nice. Doing his job. That's it. She took a step out of his grasp toward the door. "I can get myself home. Thanks for the offer though." she turned and hurried out of the office, and Adrian moved slowly toward the door where he stopped and watched her closely as she left.
A few steps into the hustle and bustle of the police station, and Katie felt the earth beneath her shake. She stopped walking, her eyes looking around to see that no one else seemed to feel what she just felt. She turned, her legs feeling heavier than they should.
"Katherine?" a voice seemed to echo and when she looked up, she saw the blurry form of Adrian Chase walking toward. For some reason, she got an unnerving feeling seeing him walk toward her, and so she took wobbly step back. Her footing seemed to give out, and without warning she went tumbling to the floor. There were cops suddenly swarmed around her as she laid flat on her back, talking, but at some point she couldn't hear anything. The lights seemed to be dimming though. Soon Adrian appeared at her side, his hand grasping hers, and she gave a slight tug, but he didn't let go. She turned her eyes to the lights above her, feeling the darkness close around. With the last ounce of lucidity she could muster, she called for the one person she needed in this moment.
"Oliver." she whispered before the darkness finally swallowed her up.
There was news. Oliver hurried over to see what Felicity, Curtis and Ari had found. He didn't expect what he was about to hear. The names of Prometheus' victims was an anagram.
"Adam Hunt, Ted Gaynor, Palmer Cokes, Sachi Beech." Curtis said.
"Those names supposed to mean something to us?" Rene asked.
John looked over to the pale expression on Oliver's face and sighed. "They do to him." they all turned to Oliver seemed surprised.
"Care to enlighten?" Rory asked and Oliver glanced over to him.
"Those names are on the list." Oliver suddenly said and the statement confused most of the people around him.
"What list?" Ari asked and Oliver met her eyes. He was going to have to do the one thing he really didn't want to do. He was going to tell the the entire truth.
The conversation moved over to the round table. For a few minutes everyone was quiet. Oliver had just told the unbelievable story of his start as the hood, and the note book with the list that he thought was his purpose. He looked over to Ari who seemed to be refusing to look at him and he couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking of him at this moment. After finding out that once upon a time he hunted the people in that notebook and killed them, in some twisted way thinking it was justice.
"Let me get this straight." Rene spoke, breaking the silence. "You got a "To Kill" list and I'm the out of control one?"
Oliver shook his head. "I haven't used that list. I haven't looked at it in four years."
"Wait, four years?" Curtis says looking over to the man with a slight frown. "I thought there was some other guy in the hood."
"No that was Oliver." Felicity supplied another fact that was not known by all of the team. "The Hood, The Arrow, Green Arrow—all him."
Oliver's eyes once again looked over to Ari who was unusually quiet and he shook his head feeling the need to continue to explain himself. "That notebook belonged to my father and when I was first starting out, I thought that it was my way to save the city." Ari let out a snort as she sat back with a shake of her head.
"Well, I think we now know the message Prometheus is trying to send." Rory said.
"You do?" Felicity asked turning to the man. "Because I don't." she looked to the others. "Do you guys?"
"He's saying you're the serial killer." Rory says looking over to Oliver.
"Harsh." Evelyn scoffs. "But feeling pretty accurate."
"I was trying to protect this city, Prometheus isn't."
"I think I get it now." Ari said suddenly, finally speaking, pulling Oliver's attention to her. "You told me that you weren't someone I should aspire to be. That I shouldn't do this to be like you, and now I get why." she stood to her feet.
"Ari-" he said, but she turned to leave. "Ari!" he called after her, but she just continued to walk toward the elevator before stepping inside.
"You told me not to get revenge on Ruvé Darhk. That I would tarnish the name of The Black Canary." Evelyn said with a shake of her head. "How are you anything other than a hypocrite."
"First, it would have tarnished her name. Second, you knew I was a killer when you came on board."
"Not a serial killer." Evelyn said and the words seemed to hit Oliver in a way he didn't expect. "I know some of these names." she tossed the notebook on the table. "You've got bankers in here, lawyers, a city councilman." Oliver really doesn't think he can take anymore of this. His eyes glance over to Felicity.
"You need to anagram the names on the list against Star City's population because that should point us toward Prometheus' next targets." the blonde just gave a nod before Oliver simply turned and walked away.
Oliver went to get changed, wanting to get out of his head. Wanting to stop over analyzing the looks the recruits gave him. Right now he needed something to just go right, and that was why his phone was pressed to his ear waiting for Katie to answer. Her thirty minutes were up, and yet she wasn't answering the phone.
"Hey," John came over to the man figuring he probably needed to talk after the recruits found out the truth. "I thought I would-" John noticed the look on Oliver's face. "What's wrong?" Oliver glanced over to John for a second before looking back down to his phone. "Katie?"
"She's not answering." Oliver said unable to shake the bad feeling in his gut. "Something's wrong?" he turned and stalked away to leave, but John moved to block him. "John, something is wrong, and I need to find my wife."
"Ok, first, how about you calm down. I get what happened with the recruits-"
"This isn't about the recruits, Digg!" Oliver snapped turning around and sliding a hand across his face.
"Then what is it about Oliver?"
Oliver turned back to his friend, "This is about me needing to know where my wife is and that she's alright. Right now nothing else matters, so I need you to—" his phone rang and Oliver quickly answered. "Hello, Twinkie, where—" the voice on the other end of the line wasn't his wife. He glanced over to John who was watching in concern. "Is she—" Oliver went walking toward the elevator and this time John didn't stop him. "Is she alright?"

EchoMoment : Yes, Steve is getting pushed into a corner and he will go to drastic lengths to get himself out. And yes, those little details are great add ins and I definitely will find a way to include it in the story somehow.
Kara-X: I actually didn't hear that news. I do want to somehow include Batwoman in the story. I think I may have an idea how, but I want to think it through a bit. But there may be another family member of Bruce's that may be making an appearance as well. Don't want to give too much away, but if your familiar with season five of Arrow there's guest star who has a connection to Bruce that will create some challenges with him and Felicity. So I have watched the first couple episodes of Superman and Lois and it's not bad in my opinion. I like that it's kind of new story and I think I will keep watching to see what direction it's going in.
Adela: Thank you!
Jason Hunter: Yes Laurel is still alive. Just realized no one has really mentioned her in the story so far. That will change. Last story Ethan was offered a job in metropolis so I'm pretty sure that's where she is, but with everything that's been happening in Star City we will figure out why she didn't come back to check in. With the characters watching my story...that's a good idea. I'm not sure about the particulars just yet of how that story will come to be, but I will definitely give a heads up when it's coming.
Another chapter done and done! Thanks everyone who has been sticking this out with me. It is tough to find spare time to write and sometimes it's tough to find the inspiration given what's been happening in the world. But I'm finding it and will keep going. I appreciate all of you!
Sneak peek
"At this point, there's a lot that could be happening. I mean-" he shrugged before looking down to Katie. "If you don't think it was the excitement from the day, I would then follow up with my next question-" Katie looked over to him and waited for the question. "When was your menstrual cycle?" Katie looked at him for a moment before letting out a snort.
"Well that's a stupid question." she said with a slight chuckle. "Because there's no way I-" she turned away because the question kept repeating itself in her head and for the life of her she didn't have an answer.
"Twinkie?" Oliver spoke and she turned to him with a look that made him let out a deep breath.
"No, no, no, that's not-" she was shaking her head as she turned to Christian. "I should hit you." the man chuckled as he held up his hands in surrender.
