Chapter 23
Invasion: Part II
"We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. The great task in life is to find reality. "
-Iris Murdoch
Arianna Locke was annoyed. Mostly because of her current babysitter. She didn't know why she assumed having Nyssa be their protector would be kind of cool. It wasn't until the woman was waking her up at the crack of dawn to train did she realize she was sadly mistaken.
Sweat was beading off of her face, as her feet dug in the sand trying to dodge Nyssa's swing with her escrima sticks. Nyssa caught her off guard and slid a leg under Ari's feet knocking her on her butt.
Ari let out a growl throwing the sticks to the ground. "This is bullshit!" she snapped looking up to Nyssa who just shook her head and rolled her eyes. "I should be sleeping, not out here with you."
"You can sleep when you're dead, now stand up, we're going again. " Nyssa turned and placed some distance between them before turning back to the teen who was still sitting in the sand. "I said get up!"
"And I said no!" Ari replied defiantly as she folded her arms over her chest and glared at the woman. "This is pointless, you're faster than I am, so I will always lose."
"So you give up?" Nyssa asked stalking back over to the teen who jumped to her feet at the look in her eyes. "You do not give up. There are no unwinnable fights. When it's you against your opponent, you use every weapon in your artillery to survive, but giving up is never an option, you you understand me?!" Ari's face was still defiant, but she rolled her eyes.
"Fine."
"Good, pick up the sticks, we're going again."
"Mama!" came a tiny voice and they both stopped and turned to the baby monitor in the sand. "Mama , dadda, mama, dada!"
"Saved by the baby." Ari says walking over and grabbing the baby monitor before stalking away from Nyssa and heading back to the house. Nyssa let out a sigh before following behind her.
Ari heard the baby the moment she came into the house. She hurried upstairs and walked into the nursery to find the girl bouncing up and down in her crib.
"Ree, Ree, mama, dadda!" Robyn called as Ari walked over and lifted her out of her crib.
"I know you want your mommy and daddy." Ari turned to see Nyssa come into the nursery and come to a stop. Ari just shook her head before taking the baby to the changing table. "You know stinker, I think I'm going to ask for a raise in my allowance for the amount of diapers I change." Nyssa walked over to stand beside Ari and Robyn glanced over to her with a toothy smile. "You see your cousin Nyssa? Turn's out she's not the fun cousin we were hoping she was." Nyssa turned a look to Ari before shaking her head. The woman turned at the sound of a phone ringing before turning to Ari who froze and turned to her.
"I was made to believe you were supposed to leave your cell phone in Star City." Nyssa said and Ari let out a nervous chuckle before turning back to Robyn.
"I mean I did...leave a phone." she replied turning back to the woman. "But c'mon, they bring us here, not telling us anything about what was going on, and then told me I couldn't bring my cell phone. They were being completely unreasonable."
"There was a reason, you just didn't know it."
"Exactly, so why should I follow their orders when they don't even tell me what's going on?"
Nyssa looked at the girl for a moment, suddenly hearing the voice of her father in her head. "Insolent child."
Nyssa turned away, and let out a deep breath. Her father would always live in her head, and it was getting harder to block him out.
"I'm just say-"
"Enough!" Nyssa said turning back to Ari who slightly jumped at the outburst. It was the look on the girl's face that let Nyssa know that she needed to calm down. She let out a deep breath. "Look, Oliver and Katherine may not share with you every detail of their decisions, but when they order you to do something it is more than likely for your own good and I think you know that." the phone stopped ringing and Ari just let out a sigh before turning back to finish changing Robyn's diaper. "When you're finished, bring me the phone." and with that Nyssa turned and left the nursery.
"When you're finished, bring me the phone." Ari mimicked in a deep voice looking down to Robyn.
"What was that?" Ari turned to see Nyssa standing at the door and she just shook her head.
"I didn't say anything, geez." Ari turned back to Robyn who just laughed up to her cousin.
Later that day, Ari snuck away up to her room while Nyssa was busy entertaining Robyn. Too much time had passed and there was no call from Oliver or Katie and that made her worry. So she slipped back into her room where she snagged her second back up phone from her drawer and powered it on. She called both of them. Multiple times, but neither answered and that's when Ari got nervous.
"Something is wrong." she muttered to herself as she stood to her feet. She closed her eyes trying to think of what she could do. That's when she stopped and glanced down to her phone and an idea came to her.
Oliver chest was heaving as he came to a stop. He closed his eyes and stretched a bit before opening his eyes and looking over to the mansion. After a minute to catch his breath, he finally walked inside heading for the kitchen to get a bottle of water. Oliver walked past the kitchen staff, heading straight for the refrigerator when he heard a loud yawn. He turned and chuckled at the sight of his sister who was still in her pajamas.
"Nice hair, Speedy." he greeted and she turned a stink eye to the man who just laughed before grabbing a bottle of water.
"I don't understand how you can wake up so early just to run." Thea said walking around the counter and accepting a cup of coffee from the maid. "Thanks Raisa."
"You're welcome." the woman replied.
Thea turned back to her brother who stood in the kitchen drinking from his water bottle before glancing around the kitchen.
"What?" she asked. "Looking for the future Mrs. Queen?" Oliver let out a light laugh before turning to his sister. "I think Laurel was just waking up too." Oliver just gave a slight nod before taking another sip of water. "Is everything ok?" he turned to her with a quirked brow.
"Yeah, why?"
"Nothing, it's just, your future wife is upstairs, awake and you're not with her being nauseatingly affectionate like you're usually are." Thea said and Oliver looked at her for moment. "I mean the PDA with you guys is borderline annoying, so I'm a little confused by why you aren't rushing up to see her. You're not getting cold feet are you?"
"No, I'm not getting cold feet. I just came back from my run and just needed a minute." Oliver said before turning and heading out of the kitchen. He stopped at the base of the stairs and only took one step. He glanced up, unsure why there was a sudden knot of nervousness in his stomach at the thought of going upstairs to Laurel.
Oliver actually had to convince himself to actually open the door to their bedroom and he lets out a sigh when he walks in and doesn't see her. He frowned slightly at the feeling. Why was he relieved that she wasn't here? Oliver just shook away the thought before heading off to jump in the shower.
Oliver had totally zoned out with his eyes closed during his shower as the water fell on his face. That's the only reason he could think of that the moment hands slid around his back, he actually jumped.
"Oh," came the amused voice from behind him. Oliver opened his eyes and turned to see the smiling face of Laurel Lance who like himself wasn't wearing anything. "Did I scare you?" she laughed.
"Uh, no, I was just-" Oliver cleared his throat, taking a slight step back. "Just in my head."
"Oh well, how about I-" she smiled as she brought her arms around him. "Help you focus on something else." the woman leaned in to kiss him and he has absolutely no idea why he pulls away. "What-" the woman frowned. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just-" he shook his head. "I just remembered I have to return a phone call." he didn't give her a chance to ask any more questions before he hurried out of the shower, grabbing a towel on the way out.
Right now everything depend on Cisco Ramon and his vibe. With half the team being abducted by aliens, right now Cisco was their best chance to get a starting point. That starting point was back in Star City.
Cisco and Felicity stood in the elevator of the bunker waiting for the doors to open. Cisco looked over to Felicity who was typing something on her phone.
"Bruce?" Cisco asked and Felicity looked over to him and just shook her head.
"Richard." she sighed. "After the whole alien mind control thing, Bruce made him go back to Gotham and he's not happy about it." she turned back to her phone. "And now he's asking me to change Bruce's mind which on some things is easier than others."
"He's trying to keep Richard safe." Cisco said and Felicity looked over to him with a nod.
"Those two may always seem like they're at each other's throats, but the truth is they care about each other. They're family and Bruce cares enough to try to take Richard out of line of fire with these aliens." Felicity let out another sigh. "And I'm stuck playing referee."
"Oh the joys of being Mrs. Bruce Wayne." Cisco said and Felicity just let out a snort looking up as the doors open.
"My whole life, I've waited to see a sign of intelligent life." they looked up to see Curtis. "Now that I'm seeing it, they're not intelligent at all. They're just mean. I can't believe it."
"Try to start." Felicity said walking into the bunker, Cisco beside her. "Guys, this is Cisco Ramon of Star labs." there wasn't much time so as she walked, the team introduced themselves. Cisco did a once over of the team hoping that he remembered their names.
"Ok. Curtis, you're tall." he said as he walked. "Rene and Rory. That's two Rorys I know now. The other one, he's a douche, though." he turned to Rory. "You're not a douche, are you?" Rory just looked at him. "No. Ok. Good. I just had to make sure, right? Guys, we have to find Oliver and company, and I'm not talking about the cherished Disney animated film starring Billy Joel, ok? I'm talking-I got to Vibe, all right? I need something to Vibe off of, something personal." he turned to Felicity who hurried off.
"I got one of Oliver's old bows here somewhere." Felicity said, stopping when her phone once again buzzed. She groaned pulling it from her pocket and stopping. It wasn't Bruce or Richard. Felicity hesitated for a moment before answering. "Ari, is everything alright?"
"Well what do you know that's what I was going to ask you." Ari whispered. "Neither Oliver or Katie are answering their phones which doesn't seem like something responsible parents would do. And those two barely wanted to leave us so I can only assume that something is seriously wrong right now." Felicity lifted her eyes to the bow and let out a sigh. "Felicity, tell me."
"Ok, but I need you not to freak out because we're figuring this out."
"Figuring what out?"
"Ok, um so aliens invaded earth, Barry showed up and asked Oliver for help, so Oliver, John, Bruce and Thea along with Barry and a couple of other crime fighters out there, decided to stop them. We were close before Oliver, Katie, Thea, Sara and John were abducted and now we're trying to figure out a way to get them back." the words came out in ramble of words Felicity hoped Ari wouldn't completely understand. She waited for the girl to respond, but she only heard silence. "We're working on it, just don't worry ok. Oliver and Katie wouldn't want you to worry about this. You and Robyn are safe in Blue Hill and-"
The sound of the elevator caused Felicity to turn and her eyes widened as she pulled the phone from her ear and took a step forward.
"Ari, what-" Felicity shook her head. "What are you doing—how did you get here?"
Ari looked at the blonde, her phone still pressed to her ear as she walked over to Felicity.
"Did you say aliens?" Ari asked pulling the phone from her ear.
"Felicity!" Cisco called and Felicity turned to the man. "The vibe!"
"Oh, ok uh-" she turned back to Ari. "We're going to talk about this later. You're in so much trouble." Felicity turned, hurrying over to grab the bow.
"What's going on?" Ari asked walking over to the others, her eyes landing on someone she didn't expect. "Cisco? What are you doing here?" she actually hadn't seen him in a while. He was one of the many people who visited Katie at the hospital after Robyn was born.
"Trying to find your cousins." Cisco replied turning to Felicity who handed him the bow.
"Um, how exactly?" Curtis asked.
"Oh, right. Uh, I'm about to Vibe." Cisco said. "It's this thing I do where, uh, I touch something. I-I can not only see the past." he turned, looking down to the bow."I can see the future, but most importantly, I can see where people are."
"So you're one of them..." Rene said, no one missing the hint of detest in his tone. "a metahuman."
"Uh,yeah." Cisco replied looking over to the man with a quirked brow. "Don't sound too excitied about it." he looked down to the bow. "So this is it?"
"yeah, just don't break it more than it already is." Felicity said.
Cisco gave a nod before turning back to the bow and focusing, and as it always did, his vibe pulled him from the moment. Cisco found himself on what he assumed was the space ship. He looked around before realizing it wasn't empty. He could see Oliver, Ray, Thea, John and Sara. Their eyes were closed, and they were all laying in these weird pods. He frowned as he looked between the faces, noticing something.
When Cisco pulled out of the vibe, he was back in the bunker all eyes on him.
"Ok, I saw them." Cisco turned to Felicity. "They're in some kind of stasis...like a ship." he turned away. "It's a little "alien" … a little "Star Trek"...JJ Abrams style- a whole lot of tech."
"You said tech!" Felicity said.
"Yes, I said tech, they're an alien space ship of course, but that's not-"
"Yes, but—but-"
"I think where she's going with this is, if we had some we could probably download some intel from it to find everyone's location." Curtis says and Felicity turned to him with a nod.
"Yes," she turned back to Cisco. "That's what I meant."
"Ok, hold." he says turning and pulling out the weird metal device from his bag.
"What's that?" Ari asked walking around to get a closer look.
"I took it from the Dominator space ship that crashed in Central City." Cisco said and Ari looked down to the device.
"And Dominator is.." she looked up to Felicity and then Cisco. "Are those the aliens?" they just nodded.
"Ok, we're going to hack alien tech!" Curtis says taking the device. "This is seriously the best day of my life." Curtis didn't even wait before he headed over to the computer. Ari, Rory and Rene right behind him. Felicity was about to follow but Cisco caught her arm.
"I wasn't finished." Cisco said and Felicity turned to him with a quirked brow. "I saw Oliver, Thea, John, Sara and Ray in these pod like things." Felicity looked at him for a moment before she realized the name he didn't say.
"Wait, you didn't see Katie?" Felicity asked and Cisco shook his head. "What does that mean?"
"I don't know. Maybe they're keeping her somewhere else on the ship. Away from the others."
"But why?" Felicity asked and Cisco just shrugged. Felicity let out a sigh as she turned and looked over to Ari who stood behind Curtis. She shook her head before grabbing Cisco's arm and pulling him with her.
"Hey, what-" they stopped over in the medical area when Felicity finally let Cisco go. The man watched as she spun around looking for something.
"There it is!" Felicity said hurrying over and grabbing the stethoscope that hung from a hook on the wall. She turned back to Cisco. "This is Katie's stethoscope. She's had it for like ever. It belonged to her mother and she's had it ever since." Cisco gave a nod before reaching forward and taking the stethoscope in his hands.
The moment the vibe pulled him, Cisco found himself back on the space ship, this time he found himself in another weird room of the ship. His eyes looked up and there she was. Katie was lying in a pod similar to the others, but there was a very noticeable difference. There was some kind of helmet like thing on her head with a wire coming out of it. Cisco followed the wire to a machine with a lot of buttons. He took a step forward, only to be pulled from the vision.
"Did you see her?" Felicity asked and Cisco lifted his eyes to the woman. "What is it?"
"I don't know. They have her in a room by herself, connected to some kind of a machine." Cisco turned away. "It didn't look good at all." he looked over to Felicity. "We need to find them fast."
Oliver found himself standing at the window looking out to the back yard of the mansion. He couldn't stop thinking about what happened with Laurel earlier and how it didn't make sense.
"You look like you're in deep thought." Thea said and Oliver turned to her with a slight smile. "Want to talk about it?"
"Uh, no, I'm fine." he said walking over to sit and Thea took the seat beside him. He turned to her noticing her staring. "Why are you staring at me?"
"Because you're being weird." Thea said and Oliver looked over to her in confusion. "Weirder than usual. What's going on with you?" Oliver sighed turning away.
"I'm just...I think I'm taking in the reality that I'm getting married." Oliver said. "To Laurel." there was that knot again, twisting in his gut. Why was the thought of marrying Laurel suddenly making him feel sick to his stomach.
"Well it's happening." Thea said and Oliver turned to her. "First comes marriage and then comes the baby in the baby carriage." she laughed, but stopped when she noticed the serious look on Oliver's face. "Hey, I'm just joking, I mean but logically speaking babies usually are a proponent of marriage in some cases."
"Yeah, I know I just-" he cleared his throat. "Let's just make it through the wedding." they both turned at footsteps and smiled at the sight of their parents.
Neither Thea or Oliver could explain the burst of happiness at the simple sight of Moira and Robert Queen.
"Well, what's going on in here?" Moira asked.
"Just making fun of Ollie and his cold feet." Thea said laughing at the look Oliver gave her.
"I do not have cold feet, I'm just-" he stood to his feet. "Taking it all in."
"Well there's nothing wrong with cold feet." Moira said. "I mean I can't tell you the number of times I thought about buying a plane ticket and just running away before our wedding." she turned to Robert who quirked a brow. "Well obviously I didn't, because here we are."
"Yeah here we are." he said bringing and arm around her and turning back to Oliver. "C'mon champ, we have-" Robert glanced down to his watch, and Oliver's eyes went to the watch as well, suddenly hit with another weird feeling. "You have that 6:00 appointment with the tailors, have to beat the traffic."
"Oh dad, you know I'm not a fighter." Oliver said and Thea let out a snort.
"Tell that to the papparazzi you punched."
"That was 10 years ago!"
"Still," Moira said. "Might as well be a lifetime ago. You're a different person." she turned to Thea. "You both are."
"Don't start crying mom." Thea says walking over to stand beside her brother. "Save the tears for the actual wedding."
"What I think your mother is trying to say is that we feel blessed to have watched the two of you grow up." Robert said and both Oliver and Thea smiled, their hearts happy in that moment. The maid walked in with a pitcher of water that slipped from the tray, and without a second to think, Oliver dropped his hand, quickly catching it before it could hit the floor.
"Whoa, sweet reflexes." Thea said and Oliver looked over to her before looking down to the pitcher, suddenly curious about where that sudden reflex even came from.
Katie's face was hiddenly under her denim bucket cap and sunglasses as she dragged her feet around the furniture store.
"Oh honey, what do you think of this one." Grace said and Katie turned to see the woman standing in front of another couch that didn't look any different than the other couches she'd seen in every color.
"Mom, I seriously don't have any preferences. Just pick a couch so I can go home."Katie says. They'd been through a couple of furniture stores, home good stores and hardware stores and Katie was at the point that all she wanted to do was just curl up in her bed.
"You get your impatience from your father." Grace said with a shake of her head. "This is your home, you should show a bit more interest in your furniture. These are the things you're going to come home to." Katie just stood off to the side and folded her arms and Grace just shook her head as she walked over to stand in front of her daughter. "Why do I get the feeling your sour mood has nothing to do with shopping?"
"What are you talking about?" Katie asked turning back to her mother.
"I'm talking about he who shall not be named." Grace said and Katie just rolled her eyes before stalking out of the store. Grace couldn't help but to sigh as she hurried to catch up to the woman. "I'm just saying, you and Michael ended an engagement, you moved back home and now you're a grump."
"Me and Michael breaking up was us coming to the mutual agreement that we weren't right for each other." Katie says looking over to her mother. "And I'm not thinking about Michael. I'm thinking about my bed that you tore me away from to look at couches. I'm just going to have daddy pay someone to decorate so I don't have to."
"Don't you dare." Grace chuckled. "We will decorate your place all on our own. We don't need any stinkin' interior decorators." Katie just laughed at her mother who looped her arm with her daughter's as they walked down the sidewalk. "It's getting late, maybe we should head home."
"There's a coffee shop up here, and I could seriously use some caffeine." Katie says.
"You've already had four cups of coffee today. "Grace said and Katie turned to her with a quirked brow. "I'm starting to get worried about your caffeine intake."
"Well don't, at this point coffee is in my veins and if it hasn't killed me by now, I doubt it will." Katie replied as they headed into the coffee shop.
Oliver and Robert were walking down the sidewalk after leaving the tailor. Robert glanced over to his son, seeing a focused look on his face. It was obvious he was thinking about something. He assumed it was the earlier conversation they had about him accepting the role of CEO of Queen Consolidated. Robert would be sworn in as Mayor and he would love to know that his company was going to be staying in the family. But Oliver was just adamant about his refusal to accept.
"You know son, your mother was right. A little cold feet is normal before a wedding." Robert said and Oliver turned to him. "The only thing that matters is that Laurel loves you and you love Laurel and that will erase all nerves and doubts."
Oliver turned away thinking the same thing, and yet there in the pit of his stomach was nothing but nerves and doubt.
"Yeah, you're right." Oliver turned a smile to his father before looking up a head and noticing a coffee shop. "Hey, you want to grab a coffee?" Oliver desperately wanted to change the subject. Robert turned with a furrowed brow.
"Uh, I don't know. We could always grab coffee back at home." Robert said nudging Oliver to follow him to the car. Oliver glanced over to his father before turning back to the shop, and he couldn't explain it, but he wanted to go into the coffee shop. "C'mon-"
"Actually, I could use one now, it shouldn't take long. I doubt they're even busy this time of day." Oliver said before continuing along the sidewalk. Robert let out a sigh before following after his son into the shop. Oliver's eyes glanced up to the menu, hoping to get just a simple cup of coffee. It wasn't until he heard the sound of laughter did he suddenly feel a slight tingle under his skin. Oliver turned, his eyes zeroing in on the woman who was laughing and it was like the world had disappeared around him and all that was left was her.
"Son, it's your turn." Robert said, placing a hand on Oliver's arm. Oliver, coming back to the moment, turned to his father before turning to the barista who was waiting for him to order. Oliver opened his mouth to speak, but his eyes once again turned to the woman who at this point was now staring back him. The woman wore an obvious surprised expression that Oliver could only assume matched his own. "Son, what-" Robert turned as well, seeing the two woman. "Oh, Grace?"
Grace turned at her name, and a smile came to her face at the sight of Robert and she came over.
"Robert, hi, funny running into you here." Grace said looking over to Oliver whose eyes were still looking over to Katie who hadn't moved from her spot near the cream and sugar table. "And here is the groom." Oliver dropped his eyes to Grace. "You nervous, yet?"
Oliver laughed," Uh, I'm not even really sure at this point. It doesn't even feel real actually." he said before looking over to Katie who turned away, her back now facing him. Grace followed his eyes and sighed.
"Oh you probably haven't seen Katie since she's been back home." Grace said. "Katherine, why don't you stop pretending no one can see you and come over and be nice." they watched Katie's shoulders drop and she turned around with a put on smile and walked over.
"Hi, Mr. Queen." Katie says looking to Robert.
"Hi Katherine. I spoke to your father earlier today and he mentioned you coming back. Congratulations on the new job. Head of Emergency Medicine-" he turned to Grace. "I know you and Jacob are very proud."
"We are." Grace said smiling over to her daughter who looked from Robert to Oliver. "I figure it's been a while since you two have seen each other huh?"
"Uh, yeah, since high school." Oliver says not even able to take his eyes from Katie even though he knows he should. She didn't say anything as she looked at him as well.
"Yeah, and now you're getting married." Grace said. "I know you and Laurel are excited." Oliver glanced over to Grace, who brought reality back to him. He was getting married to Laurel. He turned back to Katie and she dropped her eyes and it felt like a kick to the stomach for some reason.
"You know I think we've gotten you and Jacob's RSVP to the wedding, but I don't remember if we got Katherine's." Robert said and Katie lifted her eyes to him and smiled with a shake of her head before turning to Oliver.
"I didn't get an invitation." she said and Oliver let out a sigh.
"Well I'm sure that's just an oversight." Robert replied. "Of course you and your family are welcome to help us celebrate Oliver and Laurel's wedding." he turned to Oliver. "You'll give security her name and she'll just be let in, right?"
Oliver turned to his father, wanting so badly to just stop this conversation about the wedding. He turned back to Katie who once again dropped her eyes from his and he couldn't help but assume the topic was the reason.
"Sure," Oliver said looking over to his father.
"Great, we should get that coffee and head home." Robert said.
"And we should probably be getting home as well." Grace said turning to her daughter who was acting strangely all of a sudden. She turned back to Robert and Oliver. "It was good seeing you."
"You too." Robert said taking a step away assuming Oliver would do the same. Instead Oliver did the opposite.
"We should catch up." Oliver suddenly said and Katie looked up meeting his eyes with a quirked brow. "It's literally been forever since we've seen each other and I would love to hear more about what's been going on with you."
Katie glanced over to her mother before turning back to Oliver. "Um, sure, when?" a smile came to Oliver's face.
"How about now?" he said and Katie let out a snort, but he was serious. "We can grab a coffee and I'll take you home." he turned to his father. "You alright with getting back home, aren't you?"
"Uh yeah, but son, are you sure you-"
"It's fine." Oliver said turning back to Katie. There was now a new feeling settling in his gut. One that absolutely didn't want him to walk away from this woman at all. She looked at him for a moment before turning to her mother.
"Is that cool?" she asked and Grace just gave her a look, but gave a nod.
"I mean sure, just call me when you get home." Grace said and Katie gave a nod.
"Ok, then I should walk you to your car." Robert said turning from his son to Grace.
"Oh, sure, thanks." Grace said. She turned to her daughter once more before before waving goodbye to Oliver as they headed out of the coffee shop.
Once their parents were gone, Oliver and Katie just stood there looking at each other unsure what to do next.
"Uh, did you want to get a coffee?" Katie asked and Oliver smiled with a nod.
"Yeah, I should-" he nudged his head toward the counter.
"Ok, I'll grab a table." Katie says. He just nods before watching her walk away to find them a table. He doesn't actually turn away until she sits and that's when he heads back over to order his coffee.
This all just seemed weird. It was a thought that both Oliver and Katie had as they sat across from each other in that coffee shop. Once Oliver had his coffee, he sat and neither had said a word since. Katie nervously turned to look out the window and Oliver seemed to shift his attention between his cup of coffee and the woman across from him.
"Uh, so new job huh?" Oliver finally speaking and Katie turned to him with a smile that seemed to once again make Oliver feel things he knows he shouldn't be feeling right now.
"Yeah, it just sort of happened." Katie replied with a shrug. "I mean, I liked my job back in New York, but I guess I just needed a change and thought maybe I could find that here."
"You know, I uh-" he cleared his throat. "I thought I heard something about you getting married." he looked back over to her. "I think my mom and Thea were talking about it."
"Oh, yeah, that didn't happen." she replied looking down to her coffee. Oliver was actually glad she couldn't see what he thinks is relief as he lets out sigh. She shook her head before looking up to the man. "I mean I loved him you know, but it was like the closer we got to the day I started to realize something."
"What?" Oliver asked and she looked at him for a moment unsure why she was revealing so much to this guy she hadn't seen in years.
"Something was missing." she said with a shrug once again. "I could never shake the feeling that there was supposed to be something there between us. This thing that sort of sealed the deal with us. This connection that we both could feel and would just know that nothing would ever come between us and I didn't feel that." she shook her head. She turned back to Oliver who just looked at her, and she couldn't take the look in his eyes. She dropped her head. "I mean you obviously get it, with Laurel." she looked back up to him and he turned away. "Right?"
"Yeah," he said turning back to her. "I—I do." Katie just smiled.
"I can tell. I've seen pictures of the two of you in magazines." she laughed. "You were even on some weird talk show this morning. They were talking about a picture of you and Laurel and the way you were looking..." Katie stopped, noticing the look on Oliver's face right now that looked awfully similar to the look in that picture. But that was ridiculous she thought as she dropped her head. "I just changed the channel." she laughed as she looked back over to him. "I hope this doesn't offend you, but I'm actually tired of hearing about your wedding and it's like you can't go anywhere in this city without it being shoved in your face."
Oliver laughed as well. "No offense taken and I'm sorry. I know it's annoying and if I had the choice, no one would even know about it."
"Well it's almost over." Katie said and Oliver looked over to her. "Tomorrow you and Laurel will be married." she held his gaze for a moment before dropping her eyes to her coffee cup hoping to hide the sudden emotion that crept into her in that moment. She glanced over to see the workers cleaning the tables and sweeping. "I think they're about to close up." she turned back to Oliver. "I should get home." Katie stood to her feet and Oliver did the same and she looked over to him.
"Let me take you home." he said and her eye's widened slightly. "I mean it's late and I wouldn't feel right letting you go off alone."
"I don't actually live that far. It's just a couple of blocks. It's actually walking distance."
"It's also late, and anything could happen. Please, let me walk you home." he said and he could see the hesitance in her eyes, but he really wasn't ready for her to leave him.
"Ok," she relented. "Sure."
Oliver smiled as he walked with her out the door. He knew he was delaying the inevitable. That at some point he was going to have to go home and she was going to have to go to her home. And logically he understands why that has to happen, but for right now he thinks he really wants to understand why this woman he hadn't seen in years had suddenly become this person he never wanted to leave. He held open the door for her and she turned to him with that smile and he just knew he was losing a battle within himself he didn't know he was fighting.
Felicity had to take a step away from trying to figure out how to use this alien tech to find the team. And so the woman stood in the alley behind the bunker, her eyes closed, as she lets out a deep breath. She heard the sound of a car engine and opened her eyes to see the black car pull up to a stop beside her. She gave a tired smile to Bruce who stepped out of the car and looked over to her.
"You know, Ms. Smoak, I don't think you should be standing in dark alleys alone." Bruce said walking over and bringing his arms around her. "For obvious reasons."
"I know, I just needed some air and for everyone in there not to see me freak out." Felicity sighed. "I just can't stop thinking about what Cisco said."
Bruce let out a sigh. "You mean him seeing Robins in some weird chair with some sort of helmet on her head." he shook his head. "And how sure are we that this vibing thing he does and these visions are actually real."
"Well I've got say they are real." came Cisco's voice from behind them. They turned to see the man standing there before he turned to Felicity. "I came to check on you."
"I'm fine." she turned to Bruce.
"Look I'm sorry, I just-" Bruce turned to Cisco. "What you're saying doesn't make any sense. Why would aliens kidnap six people, have five in these pods all one room, and then have one in a totally different room? It makes it seem as if-"
"There's something about her that's not like the others." Felicity said and Bruce turned to her. "What's the likelihood that aliens take her right after she uses her abilities?"
"But that's-" Bruce pulled away and slid a hand over his face. "They didn't just take her."
"What if they didn't know she was the one with powers until they had her." Cisco said and they turned to him. "I mean all of them were there when she used her powers, maybe the Dominators didn't know she was the one who actually used them."
"It still doesn't make sense." Bruce said. "We live in a world that's filled with people with powers and abilities." he turned back to Cisco. "What would be so special about hers?"
Felicity almost jumped when her phone started vibrating. She pulled it from her pocket glancing down to an unfamiliar number. She glanced over to Bruce before bringing the phone to her ear.
"Um, hello?"
"I've called numerous numbers on this damn list and you're the only one that answered." came the voice of one Nyssa Al Ghul.
"Nyssa, what-" Felicity's eyes widen. "Is it the baby?"
"No, Robyn is fine, asleep actually, her cousin on the other hand has run away."
Felicity sighed. "Don't worry, she's here."
"Good, I need you to pass along a message to her from me. Tell her I'll be seeing her real soon." the line ended and Felicity just turned to Bruce once again.
"So Nyssa is on her way here. I think Ari found a way to sneak out on her." Felicity said and Bruce let out a light chuckle. "Not funny."
"No, but it kind of is. I can just imagine the look on Nyssa's face." he said with a shake of his head. He turned to Cisco. "Let me know if you have any luck getting that location." he turned back to Felicity. "Barry and Kara are back at the shipping yard, I'm going to head over. Given that these things are now taking people, we need to decide if we need to bring the big guns together on this."
"Meaning you would need to make another call to Diana?" Felicity asked and Bruce just shook his head before sliding an arm around her waist and pulled her to him.
"I will see you later Mrs. Wayne." he said before placing a kiss to her lips before pulling away and getting back into his car.
Felicity turned to Cisco who wore a slight smile. He turned to her and just shook his head. "I'm just thinking that Wonder Woman could be coming here. I might be meeting Wonder Woman. Do you know how cool that will be?" the man just let out a light laugh before turning and heading back into the building. Felicity turned to follow, but stopped and looked up to the night sky.
"You better not hurt my friends." she muttered. "Aliens or not, I am not someone you want to make angry." with that the woman shook her head before going back inside.
They weren't walking at a normal speed. It was a fact both Oliver and Katie realized as they strolled leisurely to Katie 's apartment, but neither seemed to mind.
"I don't think I've told you how cool I think it is that you're a doctor." Oliver said with a smile turned to the woman. "I mean you were so nervous about telling your dad that you didn't want to follow in his footsteps and work at the company. I told you he wouldn't be upset about it."
"You did." Katie replied with a shake of her head. "It was kind of a scary moment though. I really thought he would freak out or lecture me, but instead he picked me up and spun me around." Katie turned to Oliver, that smile on her face taking his breath away. "But what about you? You said your dad has been trying to get you to head up QC?"
Oliver let out a sigh and turned away. "Yeah, he's becoming the mayor and is trying to get everything all squared away with the company, and me becoming the CEO seems to be his number one idea."
"I can't see it." Katie said and Oliver turned to her with a quirked brow and she laughed. "Not like that, it's just—" she shook her head. "I just never imagined you as Corporate Liver. With the suit and the tie and the business meetings about revenue and blah blah blah. You would lose interest so fast." she turned away.
"And what pray tell did you imagine for my life?" Oliver asked and Katie laughed turning back to him.
"You always had a good heart. I mean you were a bit unfocused, never really headed toward something, but you always had a good heart. I always figured you'd grow up and use that good heart to help people in some kind of way." she smiled at the man who for the life of him, just couldn't take his eyes off of her. She cleared her throat and turned away. "You know my apartment really isn't that far, you don't have to walk with me the entire way." she turned back to the man. "I imagine, your fiance is probably waiting for you."
"Yeah, our rehearsal dinner is tonight." he said glancing down to his watch. He just shook his head. "But there's still time." he turned back to her. "Stop trying to get rid of me." he laughed and she just shook her head before turning away.
They once again found themselves silently walking. They came to a stop at some sort of blockage of a street that seemed to be closed for construction.
"Damn, I forgot this street was closed-" Katie turned and noticed an alley. "Cut through the alley and then go around?" she glanced over to Oliver who glanced over to the dark alley, before giving a nod. They walked down the alley, and it wasn't until he saw a dark figure up a head did he seem to instinctively slide an arm around Katie pulling her to him. She glanced over to him for a moment before turning to see the man heading their way. "So maybe dark alley at night probably wasn't the best option." she whispered as she let herself pull in closer to him. The man came in to view but he kept his head down, a hood over his head and even though there was plenty of space for him to walk around, he still bumped Oliver's arm.
"Excuse me." Oliver muttered.
"Excuse yourself!" the man said and both Oliver and Katie turned to the man who suddenly pulled out a gun and pointed it at them.
"Watches, wallets, phones." he ordered, but neither Oliver or Katie moved. "What, are you deaf, trying to catch a bullet?!"
"Hey," Katie lifted her hand. "Just take it easy." the gun shifted direction, pointing right at Katie.
"I'll shoot your ass right here!"
Oliver didn't even hesitate to move to stand in front of her. "Hey, get away from her!" so many things happened inside of Oliver in that moment, but one thing was adamantly clear. The moment this guy pointed that gun at Katie, Oliver wanted to kill him.
"You want a piece of this?!" the mugger took a step, but in the blink of an eye something hit his hand knocking the gun away and the man off his feet. Oliver and Katie turned to the object, now seeing that it was an arrow. They both looked up with wide eyes to see another figure repel to the ground from a wire. He grabbed the mugger, shot an arrow and sent him flying up to hang from the light post. Then the hooded figure shot another arrow and just zipped away.
Katie and Oliver looked up to the hanging mugger who was unconscious and just hanging there, neither quite sure what was going on.
"Ok," Katie spoke breaking the silence. "What the hell was that?" Oliver turned to her and he just silently shook his head.
Oliver couldn't stop thinking about it. Being mugged and then saved by that hooded man. Something about it was both strange and familiar and he couldn't figure out why. Currently he and Katie stood on the sidewalk watching as the mugger was loaded into the back of the police car. They'd been there to see him cut down, before they were questioned about what happened.
"Alright, I think that's all I need." the detective said looking between the pair. "You two alright to get home?"
"Uh, yeah, I live like a block down." Katie says before turning to Oliver. "You should let them take you home." Oliver turned to her with a quirked brow.
"I'm fine." he replied before turning back to the detective. "Thanks detective, I'm going to walk her home." the detective just nodded before turning and getting into his car. Oliver once again brought an arm around Katie, and tugged her with him to walk. "After all of that, you're still trying to get rid of me."
"You were just almost shot while trying to walk me home." Katie says looking over to him. "Maybe I thought I could save you anymore near death experiences tonight." Oliver looked over to her. "You should not have stepped in front of that gun. You were an idiot." she shook her head and turned away.
But I'm your idiot.
Oliver turned away, not sure why those words suddenly struck him, even hearing his own voice in his head say them.
"I mean how would I even explain that." Katie continued. "Oliver Queen shot protecting his long lost secret friend during an attempted mugging."
"Twinkie, you weren't my secret friend." Oliver said and Katie turned to him.
"You know I was hoping you wouldn't call me that." she said and Oliver laughed. "That nickname was supposed to die after high school."
"It just slipped out, and anyway, in that moment me protecting you wasn't even a question." he turned to her and she held his gaze. Those stupid butterflies in her stomach just wouldn't let up and she cursed in her head. Those feelings she thought she'd gotten over so long ago were still there, still strong and here she was in the same predicament. He belonged to someone else so those feelings would always just be pointless. She turned, and spotted her apartment building.
"This is me." she said as they came to the steps of the building. She turned to him. "Thanks for walking me, even though you didn't have to. " she smiled with a nod. "I guess I will see you around." she didn't let him say anything before she turned and walked up the steps. She did stop when she heard his footsteps behind her. She turned back to him with a quirk brow. "Where are you going?"
"We were just held at gun point. It was kind of a life altering moment." Oliver said before glancing up to the building's door before turning back to Katie. "I'm walking you all the way to your apartment door." She looked at him for a moment and she could see how serious he was.
Katie let out a sigh. "You're still annoying."
"And you're still stubborn." he replied with a smile.
Stop looking at me like that, she thought as she let out a sigh before turning away from his eyes and heading up to open the door. As promised he followed her into the building and they stood in an awkward silence on the elevator. Katie kept her eyes on the numbers, waiting to finally reach her floor so she could get out of this elevator.
Once the doors opened, Katie stalked down the hall, stopping at her door before unlocking it and pushing it slighly opened.
"Ok, here we are." she said turning back to Oliver. "You've walked me to my door and now you can stop being chivalrous and go home." Oliver smiled down to the woman and she held his gaze once again getting pulled in to this look in his eyes that was not helping her stay in reality at this moment. "Stop."
"Stop what?"
"You know what you're doing." she replied still holding his gaze. "And you can't. I can't. So this you-" she sighed. "Stop looking at me like-"
"I don't think I can do that." Oliver replied honestly. He couldn't stop looking at her, couldn't stop this feeling that overtook him when he was around her. "Tonight when that guy pointed that gun at you, I absolutely knew that I would kill him before I let him hurt you and I have no idea why. I don't know why your smile both brings air to my lungs while also taking it away. I don't know why the sound of your laughter brings so much joy to my heart." he took a step toward her. "And I don't know why I can't find it in myself to turn around and walk away from you right now." Katie looked up to his intense gaze, her chest visibly heaving. Her heart was ramming in her chest, really not expecting those words to come out of his mouth.
One thing was still completely clear. "We can't." she whispered.
Oliver didn't seem to hear the words as his hand slid around her waist and he moved in closer to eliminate the space between them. As the space between them all but disappeared, so did doubts and overthinking. The moment Oliver's lips were just a breadth's hair away, Katie couldn't fight it any longer. Her hands came to his chest and her lips captured his and he responded almost hungrily. The hands Oliver had around her waist, slid down slightly before hoisting the woman up, her legs crossing around his waist as he walks them into the apartment, kicking the door closed behind them.
Bruce sat behind the computer inside of his shipyard bunker. He looked at the screen for a few moments before grabbing his tablet and standing to his feet and walking to the other side of the bunker where currently the destroyed device the dominator's use for their mind control sat.
"Are we sure we should have this here?" Came Barry's voice as he walked over. Bruce ignored him as he moved around the device. "I mean what if it kicks back on and starts turning us in to psychotic zombies." he glanced over to Kara. "No offense."
"None taken, and right now it's powered down." she said glancing over to Bruce with a furrowed brow. "Not sure what you're hoping to actually accomplish." Bruce still just moved around the device, his eyes glancing from it to the tablet in his hand. "He really isn't a team minded person, is he?"
"No," came the voice from the otherside of the bunker and they turned to see Diana as she looked over to the pair before looking over to Bruce. "He's always been more of a lone wolf until he gets to the point where he realizes he can't do it all on his own." Bruce glanced over to the woman who just smiled at him. "Hi Bruce."
"Diana," he muttered before turning back the device. "You took your sweet time getting here."
"I mean it's not like I was on another continent," she turned to the man who just ignored her. "Oh wait, I was."
"If he won't say it, I will." Barry said and Diana turned to him. "Thanks for coming." Diana smiled before Barry turned to Kara. "Any word from Clark?"
"Yeah, he's kind of stuck with Lois and can't get a way. He's coming, it just may take some time." Kara said looking over to Bruce.
"And do we think it's smart for us to try to come at this from Star City?" Diana asked glancing around. "If the Dominators truly are intent on taking over this planet, it was probably best if we tried tackling this with multiple lines of defense."
"Maybe, but what we've learned from this whole thing is we're stronger together." Barry said and Diana just nodded. "We need to figure out who's leading this whole thing or how we can send them back. Us as a united front will be our best defense." he gave a nod. "And we also have contingencies in case you need to get back across the pond." Diana looked at him with a quirked brow before turning at a swooshing sound. They all turned to see a portal open up and out walking Constantine and Zatanna. "There they are."
"This feels like a bad case of deja vu." Zatanna said walking over and glancing over to Bruce with a quirked brow. "New toy, Bruce?" the man didn't say anything before turning and heading back over to his computer. Zatanna turned a confused gaze to the others. "He's in a mood."
"His best friend has been abducted by aliens. We're all in a bit of a mood right now." Barry said and Zatanna nodded. They turned to Constantine who stood away from him, his eyes closed. "What's he doing?"
"He's trying to sense her." Zatanna said turning back to Diana, Kara and Barry.
"Her powers?" Diana asked and Zatanna nodded. "Can you-"
"No, haven't for a while." Zatanna sighed as she glanced back over to Constantine. "He's worried." she turned back to them. "And so am I."
"Why?" Kara asked.
"Because we've sensed her power since she awaken from her coma." Zatanna replied. "And right now we feel nothing. It's as if she's not even there."
"You're not saying..." Barry looked at the woman hoping she wasn't saying what he thinks he's hearing. "Because she wouldn't even be here if I hadn't-" he shook his head. "Please just don't say it."
"Barry, calm down." Zatanna said, glancing over to Bruce who hadn't heard. She's sure if the man got even the inkling of this conversation he'd probably go balistic. She turned back to Barry. "Right now, I don't know what it means."
"Wait, uh Cisco had a vision." Kara said and they turned to her. "He was able to see inside of the ship. He saw Oliver, Thea, John, Sarah, and Ray in one room, but he also saw Katie in a room to herself. He said she was wearing some sort of helmet with wires coming out of it." Kara turned to Zatanna. "What if whatever they have her attached to is messing with her powers."
"Or what if they're trying to take her powers." Diana said and they turned to her. "I mean look at what they've done so far. Took over the minds of your friends, got you and your team distracted with this fight amongst each other. A fight that would force Katie to use her powers."
"That seems like way too intricate of a plan." Kara said with a shake of her head. "I mean why would they want to take her powers? Why do this whole set up, just to take one woman? It doesn't make any sense."
Bruce once again stood to his feet and walked over to the large device and they all turned to him.
"What the hell are you doing?" Zatanna asked as she watched the man removing some sort of metal plate from the device revealing some sort of glowing sphere. "What is that?"
"A power source." Bruce finally spoke as he kept his eyes on the object. "We need weapons that will actually hurt these things and I can't think of a better weapon than their own tech." he reached forward to grab it, but Kara sped over stopping him by grabbing his wrist.
"Maybe you should let me touch the alien foreign object." she said and Bruce just gave a nod.
Katie and Oliver laid in bed, their eyes staring up to the ceiling, neither ready to look at each other and face the reality of what they just did.
After a moment, Katie brought hands up, covering her face. Oliver looked over to her and sighed.
"Twinkie-"
"No, just-" she turned, finally meeting his gaze. "This was a mistake." those were definitely not the words Oliver wanted to hear in this moment.
"Which time?" he asked and she turned to him with a quirked a brow. "Was it the first time, maybe the second, or was the last one. Because one time could be a mistake, multiple times means something more." she just shook her head before turning and grabbing her robe and slipping it on.
"I don't know if you're being serious or if you're messing with me right now, but I don't care. You need to get dressed and go." she didn't wait for a response before she walked out of the bedroom.
Oliver groaned, getting out of bed and putting on his pants before going after her. He found himself trying to navigate his way though the unfamiliar apartment, but he found her in the kitchen searching through the cabinets and grabbing a box of cookies. Once in hand she turned, stopping when she sees him.
"You need to leave, Oliver."
"And what if I don't want to leave." Oliver said taking a step forward, only for the woman to take a step back.
"It doesn't matter. You're supposed to be going to your rehearsal dinner tonight. A rehearsal dinner where you would celebrate your engagement to Laurel because you're getting married tomorrow Oliver." she shook her head. "Oh God, I'm not this woman." she turned to him. "I don't sleep with engaged men." she turned away from him.
"Twinkie, will you just listen to me!" she turned a glare to him.
"No, you need to leave. We can pretend like this never happened. You go back to your life, I go back to mine. No one will ever know." she said and Oliver frowned. "Oliver, there's nothing you can say right now that will not make me hate myself right for this."
"Well I could think of one thing." Oliver said his eyes still on her. "I'm not getting married." she looked over to the man in confusion. "Twinkie, I wouldn't be here with you if I was going to marry Laurel."
"What are talking about? You're not—you're not calling off the wedding?" he didn't say anything and she shook her head. "Oliver, you're not calling off your wedding to Laurel the day before your wedding. Just think rationally here. You've been with Laurel through high school and college. You don't end a decades long relationship over a one night stand."
"No, you don't but whatever this is-" he took another step toward her. "Whatever this feeling is that I feel so strongly when I look at you, can't be described as merely a one stand and I think you feel it too. "
Katie didn't say anything as she looked him because she knew he was right. What she felt right now was strong. Almost impossibly strong feelings for a man she ran into only a couple of hours ago after not seeing him for years. He took another step forward, grabbing the box of cookies and sitting them on the counter. This time she didn't move away. She stayed right there as his hands slid around her waist. Her head was screaming at her to pull away, to not get pulled into the tangled web that Oliver was creating with his life.
"You can't call off your wedding for me." she whispered and he looked at her and just smiled as he slid a hand along her cheek.
"I'm calling off this wedding because I realized something after these last couple of hours with you." he couldn't tear his eyes from hers as something was so obviously clear. "I don't love Laurel. And what I've been feeling all day wasn't cold feet. It was the realization that I didn't love her and I think I've been hiding from it for so long. And if I didn't go to that coffee shop today, I'd probably still be running from it. " he smiled at her. "But then I saw you, and you looked at me and it made no sense, but I just knew."
"What?"
"I love you." he said words he knew didn't make sense to say given the circumstances, and yet he'd never felt anything feel so true in his whole life.
Suddenly it happened again. A flash of a moment that didn't make sense. He was suddenly in a moment in bed, his body above Katie's as he looks down to her.
"I'm Oliver Queen, and you're Katherine Robins and I've never loved anyone as much as I love you."
A frown came to Oliver's face and Katie wasn't sure where the look came from, but she assumed it was the words that just came out of his mouth. She shook her head and pulled out of his grasp, before moving to the other side of the counter to place some distance between them.
"You don't know what you're saying." she replied and he turned to her, still trying to figure out what that flash was. He shook his head before once again stepping back into reality before turning back to the woman who was slipping away from him. "You're not leaving Laurel for me. This is just an extreme case of cold feet. You're going to go home and realize that this was all a mistake and how stupid you're being right now and tomorrow you're getting married."
"Why is it so hard for you to believe me?"
"Because if what you're saying is true then it's you choosing me over Laurel!" Katie said and Oliver looked over to her in confusion. "You've never in all the years we've known each other chosen me for anything other than being your secret friend. I find it hard to believe that you would choose to do so now." he didn't say anything as he looked at her without a word. Suddenly fear struck her at the thought at maybe she'd said too much.
Without a word, Oliver came around the counter, his hands snaking around her waist and pulling her lips to his in a kiss that literally made her forget what they were talking about. When they finally pulled apart, Oliver met her eyes with his, wanting her to see the truth in his eyes and his words.
"Watch me." he replied before pulling away and turning and walking off. Katie stood there shocked, not moving for a moment until she heard his footsteps again. She moved around the counter and back down the hall to see Oliver now fully dressed, pulling back on his jacket as he looked over to her. "I'm going to head to the mansion to talk to Laurel."
"You're doing this tonight?" Katie asked. "At your rehearsal dinner?"
"Look I know it's bad timing, but if I don't put a stop to this now, it's going to be much worse in the long run." he grabbed her once more, bringing his lips to hers in short kiss. "I'll be back later." he kissed her again. "Don't fall asleep." and with that Oliver turned and finally left the apartment with Katie standing there still not even completely sure if any of this was real. She knew things were only going to get complicated. Her parents and his were friends, and she could only imagine this causing a rift among them. And then there was the possibility of this all getting out to the media and her being portrayed as some homewrecker who broke up Starling's favorite couple. Even with all of the possible mayhem that was sure to ensue if they even entertained this relationship, Katie found a smile, and a growing anticipation for him come back.
Oliver knew that he should head straight back to the mansion to talk to Laurel. This engagement needed to be over. He grabbed a cab and told the driver to take him to the mansion, but during the drive his mind veered back to that moment in the alley. Seeing that man in the hood and that sense of familiarity. He couldn't help his curiosity. He turned to the driver and told him that they needed to make a detour to the SCPD.
When he walked into the SCPD, Oliver wasn't even completely sure what he was looking for. All he needed was just to figure out why seeing that hooded figure triggered something inside of him. Maybe it would explain the weird visions he'd been having. Oliver moved around the precinct hoping for just to happen upon some information about the guy. Instead he was discovered by Quentin Lance, the man who was supposed to be his future father in law.
"Hey," Quentin said. "I was just on my way out." Oliver probably should've let him leave in hopes of soothing their future issues, and yet Oliver could actually use the man's help and he feels now will probably be the only time he'd be able to ask for it after today.
"Actually, do you have a minute?" Oliver asked and Quentin turned to him with a nod as they walked.
"Uh yeah. I actually should've called you earlier. Detective Hinton told me what happened. You ok?"
"Yeah, me and Katie are fine." Oliver said and Quentin just nodded. "Uh she's just an old friend me and my dad ran into at a coffee shop earlier this evening.
"Yeah, I know her parents. They're good people. Glad you two are alright." they came to a board with papers attached and Oliver found his eyes drawn to a sketch of a hooded man. "We got the guy and he's in lock up."
"Because of the guy with the bow and arrow."
"Yeah, yeah, we've been calling him the Hood. Some kind of vigilante." Queen said, and Oliver felt the tug of familiarity once again. "You know if I got the time right, your rehearsal dinner is practically now." Oliver didn't hear him because it happened again. Flashes of things that didn't make sense. This time he saw himself looking at a mirror, his eyes to the tattoo on his chest, the scene once again quickly changed and he saw himself pulling a bow from a crate. The the next scene happened quickly. It was Quentin aiming a gun to a man wearing a hood, but Oliver couldn't see the face of who it was. "Oliver?"
"Did you have any leads on who the hood might be or maybe..."
"Oliver, this is the last thing you need to be thinking about the night before your wedding." he moved to stand in front of the man, pulling his attention from the board. "Or is that what's going on here?"
"What?" Oliver asked.
"Cold feet." Quentin said and Oliver sighed. He guessed his behavior would probably imply that he was acting strangely because of the wedding, but that wasn't it at all. Something else entirely was going on. He just turned to the man and shook his head. Right now, all talk about the wedding needed to start with Laurel and so he would just need to keep up the façade.
"No, of course not." Oliver said, almost certain this man was going to beat the crap out of him at some point in the near future.
"Good, because I would hate to have to shoot you for breaking my daughter's heart." Oliver nervously laughed, but internally he cringed at what could be a possibility for his future. "The paperwork would be hell."
Oliver shook his head. "Maybe I'm more shooken up about the mugging than I thought."
"Yeah, well I know the cure for that. Drinks at the party. C'mon, they're on me." Quentin turned back Oliver didn't follow.
"Actually Caption, I'll meet you there." Oliver glanced over to the board once more before turning to leave.
"Hey Oliver-" Quentin said and Oliver stopped and turned to him. "Something I wanted to say. You know, um, when you and Laurel were, uh, kids, you know, teenagers, I-well, let's face it. I didn't like you much. Heh. I thought you were a rich, entitled punk."
"Oliver chuckled. "I was."
"But since then, Oliver, you have grown into a hell of a man, the kind of guy I'm proud to have as my son-in-law." Oliver pulled on a smile, even though guilt had settled in his gut. Here he was hearing words he never thought he'd hear from this man and all Oliver could think about was the fact that maybe he was right initially. Maybe he was still an entitled punk who just never changed. He was about to call off a wedding the night before, and he knows it's going to break Laurel's heart, and it's probably going to break his family's hearts and he hates himself for being the source of the pain he's going to cause. But Oliver doesn't know any way around it. He can't just stop these feelings that are so strong. He just gave the man a nod. "Thank you, Captain Lance."
"Right, I'll see you at the dinner." Quentin said.
"Yeah, see you there." Oliver replied as the man turned and walked away. Oliver let out a sigh before turning, his eyes catching a map and it happened again. Another flash of images that didn't make sense, but this flash held a familiar place, one Oliver just has to go to. There was an old office, with a secret elevator. He needed to know if that elevator even existed and if it did, where did it lead. Something was happening to him and he can't stop trying to figure out what.
Katie had resorted to coffee to try to keep herself awake. She found herself sitting on the floor of her apartment, sipping her coffee and glancing up to the door. It had been hours since Oliver left, but given how she thinks his night is going, she's sure it probably isn't something that's going to be cut and dry. Soon her cup was empty and she debated getting another. She glanced over to the time and it was already way after midnight, and she's sure the rehearsal dinner is over by now. She just sat there staring at the door and soon that feeling crept back in. She suddenly imagined where he was right now.
"You saw her, didn't you?" Katie muttered to the air of dark empty apartment. "She was probably wearing a pretty dress, and when you looked at her you realized you were being an idiot, because you have everything." she felt tears stream down her cheeks. "You have everything you could ever ask for, and you'd never trade it for little ole Twinkie." more tears fell and she hated it. She stood to her feet and just walked back to her bedroom where she spent the rest of the night and all of the morning crying over something she knew would happen.
When Bruce pulled back up to the bunker he didn't expect the sound of a child crying. He spun around, and that's when he spotted Nyssa standing beside her car.
"What do you want?! I've fed you and I've changed you and yet you won't just stop crying!" Nyssa said in frustration looking down to Robyn who just wouldn't stop crying. "I don't know what you want!"
"I doubt she wants you yelling at her!" Bruce snapped and Nyssa turned as he shoved her out of the way. He looked down to Robyn before unstrapping her from her car seat and bringing her into his arms. "Hey, you're ok, you're ok." the man soothed as he brought the child to his chest and gently rocked her. Nyssa stood off to the side, watching how natural the man looked with the child in his arms and how Robyn seemed to quiet down almost instantly. "That's it, you're ok." he placed a kiss to her head before turning a glare to Nyssa.
"How did you do that?" Nyssa asked. "Absolutely nothing I did would-" Nyssa looked at the child and shook her head. "She just wouldn't shut up."
"Did you try picking her up. Trying to comfort her?" Bruce asked looking over to the woman. "Did you try anything besides yelling at her. You're lucky I found you and not my wife."
"I thought I could do. It's just a child."
"She isn't an it, Nyssa. She's a girl. A little girl who misses her mom and dad. A little girl who just needs a hug, some calm words. All the the things the demon never gave you." Nyssa glared over to the man, taking a step forward.
"Hey, what's going on?" they turned to see Felicity and Ari standing at the door.
"Nyssa is no longer babysitting." Bruce said turning to the woman. "Where's her bag?" Nyssa continued to glare at the man, but moved around to pull Robyn's bag from the backseat of the car and holding it out to Bruce. He took the bag before turning and walking past Felicity and Ari inside the bunker.
"Bruce, what-" Felicity sighed before walking in after him.
Ari glanced back before turning to Nyssa who slid her hand over her face before kicking the tire of the car. The girl hesitantly walked over to the woman.
"So I take it, it wasn't as easy as you thought?" Ari asked and Nyssa lifted her eyes to the girl before stalking toward her. "Nyssa, wait, I-" Ari began backing up. "I know I shouldn't have left without telling you but-"
"But what?!" Nyssa snapped angrily. Ari's back hit the wall of the building. "Do you know what my father did to his students when the disregarded his orders?" Ari looked at the woman, suddenly nervous at the dark look in her eyes. "It was actually an array things, but they all ended the same. That person screaming in fear."
"Nyssa, I'm—I'm sorry." Ari said her heart ramming in her chest. She'd never felt this type of fear toward Nyssa, and it was really freaking her out. "But you need to back up?"
"Or what, what are you going to do?" Nyssa asked taking a step forward and closing the distance between them. Ari pressed her back as far as she could against the wall. "I thought someone had taken you. That while I was tending to Robyn, someone had snuck right under my nose and taken you." Nyssa shook her head. "I've seen torture. He'll I've been the torturer, and after searching that damn house for you and that beach and to find nothing, that was the image I had. You being hurt, tortured...someone cutting off your fingers, or your toes..someone pushing your head under water, forcing water into your lungs." Nyssa dropped her head. "And then I thought about the conversation I would have to have with our cousin." she lifted her eyes back to Ari. "I would have to tell her that she was right and that trusting me with her children was a mistake."
"Nyssa, really I'm sorry."
"Apologies." Nyssa shook her head. "Apologies are words that mean nothing to me. You know the point of my father's torture against those who disregarded any order?" Ari kept her eyes on the woman. "It was a lesson. Every action has a reaction. Every choice has a consequence. This is your consequence." and with that Nyssa turned and stalked away.
"Nyssa, wait, where-" Ari took a step forward. "What does that mean?!"
"It means goodbye Arianna!" Nyssa said not even glancing back. Ari watched as the woman slid into her car and sped away.
Ari stood there for a few moments as she took in the words of the woman. Nyssa was her teacher. The first person to finally take a chance on her and teach her how to defend herself. One thing Ari was certain about was that she still needed to learn. She still needed her teacher and now she thinks she may never see her again.
Bruce watched as Felicity held Robyn to her chest and walked with her. They were in the back room of the bunker. The man couldn't help the smile on his face.
"Oh she's lucky you caught her because if I heard her yell at this precious little human—" Felicity shook her head as she glanced over to Bruce. "The wrath."
"What do you think about us having kids?" Bruce suddenly asked and Felicity nearly tripped over her feet stopping. She spun around to the man, needing to look at him and confirm that question actually came out of his mouth. There was a knock at the door and Bruce turned, but Felicity kept her eyes on him. The door opened and in came Cisco who glanced around the room.
"Oh cool. Is this like a bedroom in the hero lair?" Cisco asked before looking over to Felicity who had a wide eye look on her face directed at Bruce. "Uh, am I interrupting something?" Bruce turned to Felicity and smiled before turning back to Cisco.
"What do you got?"
"Kara and Barry have arrived at the factory with Rene to steal the regulator from the now super powered Dr. Laura Washington." Cisco said, glancing over to Felicity who still hadn't reacted. "Are you ok?"
"She's fine." Bruce said. "We'll be right out." Cisco just gave a nod before turning and leaving the room. Bruce turned back to Felicity. "I'm sorry, this probably isn't the most appropriate time for the whole kids conversation. I just saw you with her and-" he smiled with a shake of his head. "We can forget I said anything." Felicity looked at him for a moment before turning and lying a sleeping Robyn in the crib. She turned back to face Bruce and walked over to stand in front of him.
"Yes." she said with a smile and he looked her with a quirked brow and smile.
"Yes?"
"Yes, I want to have kids with you. I mean probably not now, but definitely in the future. Not too distant future. Probably when all the alien stuff dies down, and we get a better handle on the Vigilante, probably figure out who Prometheus is and-" she turned to the look on Bruce's face and just shook her head before grabbing his jacket and pulling his lips to hers. She pulled back and looked up to his eyes. "Yes."
"Yes." he said.
"But we definitely need to stop the aliens first." Felicity said.
"Agreed." he said before they turned and headed back out with the others.
Oliver stared at the door for a few moments. He'd arrived back to the mansion the next morning, immediately seeing staff already carrying in chairs and tables for the reception. It was getting closer and closer to the wedding and he knows he's cutting it close, but he needed to do this. And so he knocked on the door before pushing it open, only to come to a stop at the sight of Laurel standing there in beautiful white wedding dress, Sara behind her in her off white bride's maid's dress.
"Laurel I-"
"It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding." Laurel says not even glancing over to him.
"Or skipping out on the rehearsal dinner." Sara snipped glancing over to the man. Oliver knew this conversation was going be hard, but he knew it would be harder with Sara in the room.
"I—I know, I said I was sorry." Oliver said walking inside, his eyes going to Laurel.
"In a text." Sara said with a shake of her head.
"Sara can you give us a minute?" Oliver asked and the girl rolled her eyes. "Please." Sara turned to Laurel who simply gave a nod. Sara turned, casting one final dirty look to Oliver.
"You're lucky I'm not a trained assassin or something." Sara muttered and the words struck a familiar cord with Oliver. He looked over to the woman as she left the room and closed the door behind her.
"I called you over twenty times, Oliver." Laurel said and Oliver turned to her. "You were mugged, held at gun point and I was scared to death, and you just don't come home."
"I know I'm sorry, I just-" Oliver let out a sigh. "It was all just pretty crazy. But I needed to get Katie home and-"
"Twinkie?" Laurel said and Oliver turned to her and gave a nod. "Your dad said you two ran into her and her mom and that you stuck around to catch up with her. Kind of weird that she leaves Starling for years and then shows up and runs into you at a coffee shop."
"It wasn't like that. She was with her mom. Dad and I just-" Oliver let out out a heavy sigh. "It was just a coincidence." he looked back over to the woman. "Laurel, why do you want to marry me?"
Laurel looked over to the man in confusion. "Oliver, what is this?"
"Please just answer the question, why do you want to marry me?"
"You're calling off the wedding aren't you?" she asked and Oliver let out another heavy sigh. "Oh God." she turned around, catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her eyes going to the wedding dress and she places a hand over her chest before moving to sit. "You're calling off our wedding when there are literally 200 people on their way here."
"Laurel, I'm sorry, I-"Oliver walked over and dropped to his knee in front of the woman. "The last thing I ever wanted was to hurt you, but last night when I saw Katie-"
"Katie?" Laurel said looking over to the man. "What did you do?" Oliver dropped his eyes and Laurel let out a dry chuckle. "You slept with her, didn't you?" Laurel stood to her feet and walked away from the man to place some distance between them. "How long?" Oliver turned to her. "How long have to been sleeping with her?"
"Laurel, please just-"
"No, Oliver. You were acting strange yesterday. When you woke up and looked at me and couldn't wait to get out of bed to go for a run, or when I joined you in the shower and you nearly tripped over yourself to get away from me." Laurel shook her head. "How long have you been sleeping with her? Days, months, years, since high school? I mean you did like those Robin's family dinners. Maybe that's why. You and Twinkie sneak up to her room and-"
"Laurel, will you stop!" Oliver said and the woman just shook her head before turning away. "I'm sorry, I never meant to hurt you and I'm sorry it's gotten this far. Maybe we could call everyone and-"
"Oliver we're not calling anyone." Laurel said turning back to the man who looked over to her confused. "You had your tryst, but this wedding is still on. We're not canceling our wedding over some weird fat girl from high school." Oliver looked at the woman with a shake of his head.
"It wasn't a tryst. I love her." he said simply and Laurel just scoffed. "And would very much appreciate if you didn't talk about her like that. This wedding is over."
"You think this wedding was just about you and me?" Laurel asked. "What happens to QC with a scandal like this? Days before your father has to swear in for Mayor, he has to answer questions about his son the lying cheater who called off his wedding the day he was supposed to be married. I know you can be selfish Oliver, but I know you wouldn't put your parents through that."
There was a knock at the door, and Oliver turned when it opened to see the man he'd met last night.
"John?" Oliver said and Diggle gave a nod to Laurel before turning to Oliver.
"Sorry for the interruption. The Russian lady downstairs told me to come right up." John said and Oliver nodded. "You got a minute?"
Oliver turned back to Laurel who smoothed out the wrinkle in her dress before turning back to the mirror.
"I'll see you at the end of the aisle Ollie." she said as she begins running her fingers through her hair. Oliver looked at her for a moment before turning and leaving the room.
He walked over to John who was further down the hall.
"That looked serious." John said and Oliver just shook his head before turning to the man. "Is there some place we could talk?"
"Yeah, follow me." Oliver replied.
That morning Katie needed to get out of her apartment that was literally just a reminder of how stupid she was. She found herself at her parents house, sitting on their bed as she watches them moving about getting ready for a wedding that was apparently still happening.
"You sure you don't want to come with us, honey? I mean even Jeremy and Heather will be there, and they're bringing Arianna. I know you haven't seen them in while" Grace asked as she put in her earring. Katie turned to her mother, when suddenly she sees a vision of herself shooting Jeremy in the head, and then the scene changes and she's staring at Heather being placed in the back of a police case. The final scene is of Katie hugging a bright red haired Arianna. "I really don't want you spending the whole day by yourself." Katie came back to the moment and turned back to her mother.
"And I really don't want to spend the day at that stupid wedding." she said with a shake of her head as she turns her eyes on her phone. Grace frowns slightly before walking over and taking a seat on the bed beside her. Katie turned to her with a quirked brow. "What?"
"Did something happen last night with Oliver?" Grace asked and Katie just shook her head before turning back to her phone.
"Nothing happened. We drank coffee, he took me home and then he left." Grace noticed something in her daughter, something that no matter how hard she tried she could never hide from her mother.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"I just told you it was nothing!" Katie snapped angrily standing to her feet about to leave, but she stopped and turned back to her mother. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled. I just don't want to talk about it, ok." they turned as Jacob came into the room fiddling with his tie. Grace let out a snort as she stood to her feet and walked over, smacking his hands away taking his tie in her hands.
Katie stood there watching them. Her mother was completely focused on tying the tie, while her father stood there with an adoring smile on his face as he watched her.
Suddenly she saw herself standing in front of Oliver, tying his tie and she glances up to see that same look on his face.
"Honey?" Katie comes back to the moment and turns back to her mother and father who are both watching her. "Are you alright?"
"I-" Katie turned away slightly before Grace just came over to her. Katie turned back to her mother and just brought her arms around her.
"Oh sweetheart," Grace said returning the embrace. "Tell me what's wrong." Katie just held onto her mother for a few moments longer.
"Sunshine," Jacob placed a hand on her arm and Katie lifted her eyes to him. "Whatever it is, you can tell us. We love you and we want nothing more in this world than to see you happy."
It happened again, a flash of a moment she didn't remember and yet she was in it.
"You think a couple of dinners is going to fix us?" she asked with a tilt of her head. "Fix the fact that you faked a coma, had your demented coworkers kidnap me, torture me and make me think that every day was the last day of my life."
"Sweet heart-"
"Oh I know, you think some fake restaurant, filled with all these agents is going to fix the fact that you made a deal with a man who calls himself demon, where he would take your daughter and make her do terrible things in the name of getting her ready for some big bad fight." she shook her head. "I'm sorry to break it to you Jacob, but there is no fixing us, because we're broken. You broke us."
Katie gasped pulling away from her mother and taking a step away from both of them.
"Honey, that's wrong." Grace said and Katie turned to her. "You look like you've see a ghost."
Another moment flashed. This one showing her much younger. A teenager and she's sitting, crying at the sight of a casket, and the picture of her mother beside it. Katie's eyes go wide as she turns back to her mother.
"Sweetie you're scaring me." Grace said and Katie couldn't even explain what was happening. She just looked between her mother and father. She turned back to Grace, suddenly an ache in her chest as she looked at the woman. "What's going on?"
"I don't know." Katie says before turning and running out of there. She didn't turn at the sound of her name being called. She didn't even stop to get into her car. She just ran down the street, unsure where she was going. She didn't stop until she found herself standing outside of the gates of the Queen Mansion. Katie stood there out of breath, staring up the house unsure why she was here. The gate was open, and it was like she couldn't stop herself from going in.
When she found herself at the door, she was screaming in her head to just turn around and run. Maybe that was the solution. To just run and not get tangled up more than she already was in whatever was going on. She shook her head before taking a step back, but before she could leave, the door opened.
"Twinkie?" came the familiar voice of Thea Queen. Katie turned to the woman who was wearing a beautiful cream colored dress another sign that this wedding was indeed happening. "I thought I heard someone out here." she gave Katie a once over, noticing the woman in jeans and tshirt under her jacket. "Um, if you're here for the wedding, there's kind of a dress code." She looked up meeting Katie's eye and for the life of her, Katie just didn't know what to say. "Are you ok?"
Katie was just stuck and so she just shook her head. "I'm sorry, I should go." Katie turned to leave, and Thea had no idea why, but she reached forward, grabbing the woman's arm to stop her.
"Wait," Thea said and Katie turned to her. "Just come inside for a minute." Katie looked at her for a moment but nodded and followed the woman inside. Katie knew this was a bad idea, and yet she continued to follow Thea upstairs, and down the halls of the mansion until they ended up in Thea's room.
"Thea, really, I'm fine, but I need to go." Katie says turning to the woman.
"This is about last night, isn't it?" Thea asked and Katie looked over to Thea with wide eyes really not expecting that.
"What do you mean?"
"You and Ollie were mugged last night while he was taking you home." Thea sighed. "He called to let us know what happened and that he was ok. We were all worried. I mean especially Laurel." Katie turned away and Thea seemed confused, but then she realized something. "Wait, did something else happen last night?" Katie turned back to her and Thea could just tell from the look on her face. "It did, didn't it." Thea shook her head as she turned and walked over to her window. "I can't believe he would do that to Laurel. He made us believe he isn't that guy." Thea turned back to Katie. "Him not showing up to the rehearsal dinner makes so much sense now."
Katie looked over to the woman in confusion. "He didn't come to the rehearsal dinner?"
"No, because he was with you."
"Thea, no he wasn't." Katie says with a shake of her head. "Yeah, I did see him last night, and-" Katie sighed. "Look, the last time I spoke to him, he told me he was going to the rehearsal dinner."
"Well he was a no show, and he sent over his apology to Laurel in a text." Thea said and Katie turned away once again. "Look, I don't know why you're here, but today is really important." Katie turned back to Thea who let out a sigh. "To a lot of people including my parents so it just has to be perfect. I will do whatever I need to do to make sure this day is perfect for them. You need to leave." Katie swallowed the emotion in her throat and gave a nod before turning and heading for the door.
Thea watched Katie, and couldn't explain why she suddenly felt guilty. She took a step forward to stop her, but before she could, Katie was already gone.
Katie felt her world closing in on her and she knew at any moment she was just going to completely break down. She needed to get out of here. She headed down the winding hall, finding herself getting turned around. When she found the staircase she let out a relieved breath before she practically ran down them. She saw the door and was about to leave when voices stopped her.
"Sara, come on, concentrate..." the was Oliver's voice and she was hesitant, but she walked over, only catching a quick glance inside. It was Oliver, and he was standing with Sara and a man Katie didn't recognize and yet there was something familiar about him. She stopped outside of the room, and placed her back on the wall to hide herself. "Concentrate."
"There was a fight." Sara said. "It was 6 of us, and then- and then we were taken." Sara opened her eyes.
"Taken where?" that was the voice of the man Katie didn't recognized and yet a name popped into her head.
"John?" she whispered unsure how she knows the name of a man she's never met before.
"I don't know." Sara said.
"Well, all right." Oliver said turning to Sara. "There were 6 of us. Who were the other three?
"Ray Palmer and-and Thea." Sara lifted her eyes to Oliver. "And Katherine Robins." Oliver's eyes widened.
Katie stood on the other side of that wall totally confused. The conversation the three of them were having wasn't making much sense and it was actually starting to make her anxious. She needed to leave. She glanced up, wondering if she could make it to the door without drawing attention to herself.
"I mean, if this is some kind of dream or shared hallucination, then how do we wake up?" Sara asked looking between Oliver and John.
"By getting out of here." John said. "The Smoak Technologies building. Maybe the reason why that place seems so strange is because that's the way we get out of here... Wherever here is."
Katie took a quick step turning, only to bump into a maid, knocking the tray in her hands to the floor and also causing the pitcher of water to go along with it.
"I'm sorry, I'm so-" Katie whispered, turning at the sight of Oliver, Sara and John. She turned away before quickly running for the door.
"Twinkie, wait!" Oliver had to run to catch up to her. She wasn't stopping and she was quicker than he thought she was. When they reached outside, she was already halfway across the property, headed for the gates.
"Ollie!" Sara called and Oliver came to a stop as they watched her finally run out of the gates. "What the hell just happened." Oliver closed his eyes and let out a sigh. He suddenly remembered that he didn't go back to her place last night and he could only imagine that she thinks it's because he did what she said he would do.
"I have to go after her." Oliver said turning back to Sara and Jon. "I screwed up and now she thinks-" he shook his head. Sara looked at him for a moment.
"You were with her last night, weren't you?" Sara asked and Oliver turned to her, and she knows she should punch or hurt him in some way and yet she also doesn't think she should. "Who is she to you?"
"I don't know yet." Oliver said turning back to the gates hoping she would come back. "I don't know, but I know that I have to find her and I have to explain what happened." he turned back to Sara and Jon. "Look tonight we will talk to Thea and Ray, but right now I need to talk to Katie." John and Sara just gave him a nod and with out a word Oliver turned and headed to the garage for his car.
Katie stormed into her apartment out of breath. She ran back to her parent's house, hopped into her car and just drove back here. She felt the adrenaline in her veins. The need to just keep moving and never stop.
"I have to go." Katie turned and headed to her bedroom. She went to her closet and grabbed her suit case, bringing it out and putting it on her bed. She felt the emotion suddenly cause her to start shaking and yet she didn't let it stop her from putting clothes in her suit case. She barely knows what she tossed in it before she zipped it up and grabbed the handle dropping it to the floor. She allowed herself a minute to pause, and in the minute is when the tears suddenly poured from her eyes. "I have to go." she shook her head before heading out of the bedroom, dragging her suitcase behind her. She went right for the door, fully prepared to jump in her car and just drive until she runs out of gas and money.
Katie had only pulled open the door, coming to a stop at the man standing there about to knock.
Oliver looked down to the woman, tears falling from her eyes and it broke his heart.
"Twinkie, I-"
"No,no-" she shook her head trying to move around him, but he caught her arms. "Let me go!"
"I can't!" Oliver said and Katie turned her eyes to his. "I'm sorry I didn't come back last night, but it's not what you think. I didn't have a change of heart, and I had every intention to talk to Laurel last night and tell her that I couldn't marry her."
"And yet that intention didn't stop the wedding." Katie says trying to pull herself from his grasp. "It doesn't matter. Get married, have lots of kids, grow old, have the best life. Just let me go." Oliver shook his head as he looked at her and suddenly another memory flashed and he smiled. "Why are you smiling?"
"5." Oliver said and Katie looked at him like he was crazy. "We're going to have 5 kids." Katie turned away and tried to pull herself free.
"Like I said, I wish you and Laurel the best with your 5 kids." she said, but Oliver wasn't letting up.
"No, not me and Laurel." Oliver said and Katie turned to him in confusion. "You and me. Tell me you remember. You were wearing a pale yellow wedding dress, and we were dancing." Katie frowned at the man, his words tugging on the edge of something she's not understanding. "I mentioned your vows and how you said that you planed on having more of my kids. I suggested 5."
"And I said two." Katie said, the memory suddenly in her mind and she meets Oliver's eyes with more confusion. "But I also said, one more so fingers crossed it's a boy." she held Oliver's gaze, staring at his blue eyes and suddenly she saw the face of a baby with those same eyes and Katie suddenly grabbed Oliver shirt as she let out a gasp. "Robyn."
"Robyn." Oliver repeated, and the moment he said the name, memory flash after flash of a baby girl, growing up from an infant to a toddler, and her toothy smile looking up at him. "Our daughter." he looked back down to Katie. "We have a daughter."
Katie finally tugged herself out of Oliver's grasp and went back into the apartment and started pacing.
"Twinkie, I know none of this makes sense right now, but we think something is going on." Oliver walked into the apartment closing the door and walking over to stand in front of her to stop her from pacing. "We think this place isn't real."
"What are you talking about? Of course it's real." she shook her head she slid her fingers through her hair. "It has to be real because then if it isn't then what is it?"
"We think it's some sort of shared reality." Oliver said and Katie turned back to him. "We were taken from our lives, from our daughter and-" Oliver sees the face of a red haired teenager and she's smiling at him from a kitchen table with a plate of waffles in front of her. "And Ari?" he turns back to Katie who lets out a sigh. "Robyn and Ari. They're our kids." Katie looked at him for a moment and she just knew everything he was saying was the truth. She'd been fighting these memories all day, all of yesterday, and this would explain it.
"How do we get out of here?"
"Smoaks Technologies." Oliver said and Katie's eyes widened.
"I saw that building yesterday and it seemed weird. Wrong like it wasn't supposed to be there."
"That's what we all think. Maybe it's the key to us getting out of here. First we have to get through to the others. Thea and Ray Palmer."
"Ok." Katie nods. "We should go."
"Yeah, we should but-" Oliver shakes his head before sliding a hand behind her head and bringing his lips to hers. Oliver couldn't explain that feeling that was inside of him and now he knows exactly what is was. He pulled away and dropped his head to hers.
"You're my husband, aren't you?" she says with a smile and Oliver smiles back.
"And you're my wife." he replies dropping his lips to hers once more. The kiss was heading somewhere they didn't have time for. Katie found a moment of clarity as Oliver's hands slid under her shirt, and she quickly stopped him. He pulled back and looked down to her and just nods. "Right, not the time." he does take her hand in his and pulls her with him.
When they arrived back to the mansion, they saw many people headed inside. Oliver pulled the car to a stop and glanced over to Katie who didn't turn away. He reached over and took her hand in his.
"This feels weird." she says turning to him. "This is your wedding to Laurel."
"Except this isn't my wedding to Laurel. Even without the memory flashes, I wasn't going through with this wedding." Katie just looked over to him with a smile. "C'mon, I have to find my sister." Katie nodded before they turned and headed for entrance to the mansion. Oliver held Katie's hand as they both hurried, but then soon Katie's pace started to slow down. Oliver stopped and turned to Katie who suddenly felt dizzy, and swayed on her feet. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"I don't know, I feel-" she hunched over, and groaned in pain. Oliver quickly brought his arms around her. She lifted her eyes to his. "Something feels wrong." she dropped her head to his chest and sighed. "You have to go."
"What? I'm not leaving you."
"And I will slow you down. Look, find Thea and Ray. I'll meet you at the garden steps." Katie says and Oliver's grasp doesn't loosen. "Oliver this is probably just another way for them to keep us here. We have to keep fighting it and we have to get out of here." she placed a hand on his cheek. "Just come back to me."
"Always." he replied, his grasp hesitantly loosening. Katie stood there and he backed away slowly. She gave him a reassuring nod and then he turned and headed inside of the mansion.
Katie slid a hand over her chest as she closed her eyes and tried to ignore the immense pain she was feeling. She let out a deep breath before opening her eyes and running off to the back of the mansion.
Oliver didn't know how hard it would be to walk away from his parents. Moira and Robert stared with concern at their son.
"Laurel, the company." Robert says and Oliver looks over to him.
"This is your life now." Moira says and Oliver turns to her and just seeing her breaks his heart. Seeing both of them and knowing they aren't real just breaks his heart.
"No, it's not." Oliver says before pulling his mother into a hug and he can't even hold in the tears as he's forced to walk away from them. He pulls from the hugs and brings his arms around his father. "I'm-I'm so sorry." he can't stop the emotions from tearing at his inside and so he pulls away and walks off not daring to look back.
He sees Thea with Sara and walks over to her.
"Speedy-"
"She knows Ollie, and she doesn't want to leave." Sara says and Oliver looks over to her before turing back to his sister.
"Better question, why would you even want to." Thea said looking over to her brother.
"Because none of this is real." Sara says.
"It's real enough," Thea says before turning to her brother who she could see was fighting the emotions of all of this. She knows she can convince him. "In this life we have our parents."
"But those are not your parents."
"They remember the only lulaby that ever put me to sleep." Thea said before turning to Oliver and placing a hand on his arm. "They even smell like them Ollie."
"But it's not them Thea. I wish it was-" he shook his head. "But even if it were them, I can't stay here." Thea turned away. "Thea I have a wife." Thea turned back to him. "And we have a beautiful daughter and a beautiful and smart teenager who are back home waiting for us to come back." Thea didn't say anything, once again turning away. Oliver lets out a sigh before turning to Sara.
"Where are John and Ray?"
"Outside with Twinkie." Sara said and Oliver gave a nod.
"Can you give us a minute?" Oliver asked and Sara gave a nod before turning heading outside to join the others.
"We can't stay here Thea." Oliver said and Thea shook her head. "We just can't."
"There's nothing waiting for me there. You have your wife and your kids, but for me there's just pain and suffering. "
"Thea, that's not true, you-" he chuckled. "You're the super-aunt. Robyn and Ari love you and they need you just as much as I do."
"Ollie, I can't lose them again. It was hard the first time and I can't go through that again, please don't make me." Oliver looked at his sister and just gave a nod, trying his best to keep a handle on his emotions.
"Ok. Alright." he brought his arms around her. Oliver didn't want to say goodbye to his sister, but this is what she wanted and he wouldn't stop her.
When Sara came outside, she looked up to the sky. It was raining hard. She hurried over to John, Ray and Katie. Her eyes went to Katie who stood hunched over the railing of the steps.
"What's wrong?" Sara asked and they turned to her.
"Where's Oliver and Thea?" Katie asked.
"Thea knows the truth, but she doesn't want to leave. Oliver is in there trying to convince her." Sara said. "Are you ok?"
"He's not going to convince." Katie says with a shake of her head. "Thea has missed her parents too much to walk away from an opportunity like this." She didn't wait for a response before she stood up straight and headed into the part.
"Twinkie, where are you going?!"
Katie didn't stop until she walked into the party, glancing around to find Thea.
"Sweetheart," Katie turned to see her mother who came over with a look of concern. "You're all wet and-" she placed her hands on Katie's arms. "You're shivering. We should find you a warm place-" Grace tried to tug Katie with her, and Katie almost let her before stopping. Graced turned back to her. "Honey-"
"Mom," Katie brought her arms around her and hugged her. She wanted to remember this moment, to hold on to it and be able to think back on it. "I love you."
"Oh, I love you too baby." Grace said returning the embrace. "You're going to get sick, please, let's go find you some dry clothes." Grace pulled back from the hug smiled at her daughter who stared back with a watery smile.
"My daughter's name is Robyn. I wished you could've met her. You would've loved her. " Katie dried her eyes with her hands. "Oh God, you would've been an impossible grandma, but she would've adored you and I would've been grateful to have you there so I could ask questions, or I could complain about Oliver. " she laughed. "You would give me the best advice and you'd tell me what I should and I probably wouldn't be the mess I am now." Grace just looked at her daughter in confusion.
"Honey, are you ok?"
"You have no idea how much I miss you. I love you mom." Katie glanced up and spotted Thea with her parents before tugging herself away and going over to her.
"Speedy!" Katie called and Thea turned to her with a quirked brow. "Let's go!" Thea smiled nervously to her parents.
"I think she's drunk or something, I'll take care of it." Thea said before grabbing Katie's arm and pulling her with her out of the part and into a the hall away from the guests. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Well I figure if Oliver's gone, he wasn't able to convince you to come back with us. "
"No he couldn't and he understood."
"But do you?! Do you even understand what this place is. Our unconscious minds have been forced here by something we can't even remember."
"Look, I'm not leaving my family."
"Except you are. Oliver, me, Robyn, Ari. You choosing to stay here in this illusion-" Katie shook her head. "How do I explain to Ari? How do I explain to your niece that you're not there to give her fashion tips because she chose this. Oliver won't guilt trip you, but I certainly will because I love you and I need you and I can't afford to lose more people. You're my sister, and I'm not leaving here without you. So either you're walking out of here with me or-" a pained groaned escaped Katie's lips and she hunched over grabbing her knees to steady her.
"Twinkie, what's happening?"
"I don't know." Katie says standing straight up and letting out a deep breath. "Something is wrong and I don't know what's going on, and I don't feel good about it. "Thea looked at her with a quirk brow. "Your brother is going to need you. My kids are going to need you and I know you don't want to leave, but-" Thea placed a hand on Katie's arm to stop her.
"Ok." Thea said with a nod, just let me get changed. Katie let out a sigh before watching the woman hurry off.
Katie was leaning her body against the door, her eyes closed as she tried breathing through the pain. She felt like she was dying .
"Hey," Thea's hand came to Katie's back and Katie opened her eyes and turned to her.
"You ready?" Katie asked and Thea just nods. Thea holds on to Katie's arm as she heads outside, just in time to see Oliver, Sara, Ray and John standing across from enemies of their past. Including Damien Darhk, Malcom Merlyn, Death Stroke, and few faceless men who all stare menacingly.
"They're not real!" Oliver says pulling the arrow from his chest that Malcolm just shot at him.
"They certainly look real." Thea says and they all turned to them. Oliver eyes looking from his sister to his wife. "But let's not get into that right now." she looked over to Katie who grimaced. "I don't think we have much time.
"Twinkie?" Oliver walked over bringing an arm around her and she just turned to him with a smile in hopes he just believes it and focuses on the psychos on the other end of the lawn.
"I'm fine. Thea's right we don't have time." Katie said and Oliver turned from her to his sister.
"Speedy?"
"Yeah, I had a change of heart." she says before turning to Katie. "Like I said, I can't lose any more family again." she turns back to her brother before walking over to the line.
Oliver turns back to Katie who places a hand on his cheek. "You should head to Smoak Technologies. We'll meet you there. You're in no shape for this fight.
"You can't get rid of me that easily, Liver." she says with a smile. She clenches her jaw and pulls from his grasp. "We're leaving here together." she looks over to him. "Let's do this." Oliver let out a sigh, gripping the arrow in his hand before turning and following after her.
They followed Oliver down the short flight of steps before they all ran to attack. Oliver headed for Slade, while Thea ran toward her father. Katie came down the steps, her eyes going up to Damien Darhk and suddenly an image of her hand pertruding from his chest flashed in her mind.
"Aw, come to daddy." he taunted and Katie clenched her jaw before running toward him.
"You know the last time I killed you, I wasn't really myself." she said dodging a punch he threw her way. She caught his arm, and jerked her elbow down on his arm and she heard the crack and his groan of pain. "This time I think I might actually enjoy it." the man slid a leg under her feet knocking her to the ground, and that fall seemed to cause every pain receptor in her body to wake up and she screamed.
"Twinkie!" she heard Oliver who tried to get to her, but Slade wasn't letting up.
Katie clenched her fists and rolled out of Darhk's attempt to stomp her with his foot. She jumped back to her feet before turning and running toward the man. She threw jab after jab, each hit as painful to her as it probably was to him, but she wouldn't stop. She pushed him back slightly before she kicked out her leg and wrapping it around his neck, and jerking them both to the ground. With a strong jerk of her leg she snapped his neck.
Katie just laid there on the ground, trying to just breathe which seemed harder than it should be. She felt something strange and lifted her hand to see the tips of her fingers slightly glowing. They should be brighter she thinks, but the light seems to be dimming.
"Ollie!" she hears Thea yell and she turns her head in time to see Oliver catch the bow and arrow she tosses to him. With just one tug of the bow string, Oliver sends that arrow to Slade's chest. The moment Slade is down, Oliver drops the bow and looks around, his heart dropping to his stomach when he sees Katie on the ground. He runs over dropping beside her.
"Hey, hey, I'm here. I'm right here." Oliver says bringing his arms around her. "We're almost there, you just have to hold on ok?"
"Liver, something's wrong." Katie says, her voice sounds just as weak as she looks.
"It doesn't matter. We're getting out of here, you're going to be fine." he says before hoisting her up into his arms. Oliver turned to see Ray holding up John who'd been shot. "We need to leave now!" Oliver turned and they all headed to Sara's truck piling inside. Sarah got behind the wheel and the others got inside. Oliver kept his arms around Katie, keeping her in his lap. He looked down to her, her eyes closed as she clung to his chest.
"Hey Twinkie, open your eyes." he said but she didn't even move a muscle. "Please, I can't-" he lifted her in his arms, hugging her to his chest. "I can't lose you." he lifted his head. "Sara, you need to drive faster!"
"I'm going as fast as I can Ollie!" Sara replied, her foot literally flooring the gas pedal.
Relief washed over Oliver when the building came into sights and they finally stopped. He didn't hesitate as he carried Katie out of the car and in to the building, the others behind him.
"Now what, John?" Oliver asked, but the answer was right there in the form of a wall of glowing light.
"Uh guys, that doesn't belong here. "Ray said pointing to the portal of light. "Either that's the way out of here or we have to click our heels three times and say, "There's no place like home.""
"And if that doesn't work?" Sara asked.
"It has to work, " Oliver replied and nudge his head for them to go."Come on."
Ray helped John through the portal, Thea and Sara behind them. Oliver was about to head through when he turned at the sound of voices. Oliver wasn't sure what he was seeing, but they looked like the ghosts of his mother, father, Tommy, and Roy. He took a moment, their voices speaking to him and took just a minuscule of a moment to say goodbye. He turned and looked down to his wife and knew he couldn't wait any longer and stepped through the portal.
Oliver's eyes opened, and he looked around to see he was in some sort of pod with something around the back of his head. He quickly jumped out to join the others who also looked around in confusion.
"Where are we?" Sara asked.
"You alright?" Ray asked over to John.
"Yeah, it may not have been real, but it still hurt like a bitch." John said before glancing around the others and turning to Oliver who was looking around as well and began searching the room.
"Ollie?" Thea said, but Oliver didn't say anything as he continued to search. That's when she realized something and turned to the others. "Where's Twinkie?" They all frowned as they looked around the room. "Where is she?!"
"Look, she has to be somewhere on this ship." Sara said to her before turning to Oliver. "Ollie, we have to keep cool ok, we have to-"
"Guys-" Ray said and they turned to him. He was standing across from them staring at something. It wasn't until they walked over did they see what caught his attention. It was a window. And outside was nothing but dark space. "I think we're in outer space"
"I don't care, I need to find my wife." Oliver said before walking over to what he thinks is a door that automatically opens and he stalks out.
"Ollie!" Sara calls going after him before he's caught by the Dominators.
They all walked cautiously down the halls of the space craft.
"This place seems huge, she could literally be anywhere." Thea said.
"Then I will search this entire ship until I find her. I'm not leaving without her." Oliver says his eyes scanning for another room.
"None of us are, but I'm sure we will more than likely run into aliens on here and when we do find her, how are we going to get out of here?"
"This way." Ray said nudging his head forward. "Even though it's an alien technology, certain principles of design are universal." they turned a corner and stumbled upon a group of aliens who all stopped and turned to them. "Or not."
Oliver quickly looked around before spotting a weapon against the wall, and didn't hesitate to grab it and shoot it. The gun shot out some sort of bright laser that hurt the aliens.
"Ray's right. Certain principles of design are universal." They all turned and ran down the other end of the hall, only stopping when suddenly a door explodes open in front of them with a bright light that sends quite a few aliens crashing into the wall and to the floor dead.
"I guess it wasn't that hard to find her after-" Thea said before stopping when her brother ran into that room without a cautious brain. "Ollie!" they all ran in after him, coming into see Katie lying on the floor. Their eyes went from her to the pod with the weird wires and helmet that looks as if they'd been riped apart. "What were they doing to her?" Oliver turned handing the gun to John before rushing over to his wife and dropping his ear to chest. He let out a relieved sigh at the sound of her heartbeat. "Ollie?"
"She's alive." Oliver said before hoisting Katie into his arms, her body limp and he fights the emotions that want to take him over. "We have to go." They all hurry back into the hall and continue running until they find a room of what look like smaller space ships.
"You think you can fly one of these things."
"I'm hoping between the five of us, we can fly one of these things." Oliver said before hurrying off toward one of the ships.
They all ran inside, seeing five seats placed in a circle. They all moved to sit, and Oliver went to his seat, maneuvering Katie to straddle his lap so her head falls to his shoulder. He let's out another nervous sigh at the fact that she still hadn't moved or spoken a word since they'd found her.
"Now what?" Sara asked.
"Ray?"
"Um, now might be a good time to find the owners manual." Ray said as they all continued to search. It was Thea who saw some sort of pad up ahead and reached forward and placed her hand on top of it. The moment she did, they suddenly started moving.
"Hmph," Thea said proudly. "And mom said I'd never amount to anything if I didn't go to college." Everyone one held on as the ship seemed to move down, almost felt as if they were falling. Oliver kept his arms wrapped tightly around his wife.
"I'm right here, Twinkie." he whispered in to her ear. "Just hang on."
"I really hope you hit auto pilot because I don't see any controls." Ray said as he looked for something to control this ship as they descended into space.
"Hold on, we have incoming!" John suddenly said and they turned to him.
"How do you know?" Sara asked before their ship is suddenly struck.
"Lucky guess."
They all jerked as the ship is repeadly hit. Ray glanced around. "We're going to have to find the controls or we're not going last much-" suddenly they turned at the sudden gasp of Katie whose eyes opened and she looked to Oliver.
"Twinkie, are-" they're hit again, the ship once again jerks. Katie turns her head, looking around the ship before she closes her eyes again.
"Stop firing." she mutters before dropping her head back to Oliver's shoulder.
"Twinkie?" Oliver says, even givinng the woman a slight shake but she doesn't budge.
"Wait a minute." Ray suddenly says and they turned to him. "It stopped." Ray looks over to Oliver before his eyes look down to Katie. "She didn't-" he turns his eyes to Oliver who is still trying to wake up his wife. "She couldn't-" he looks over to Sara and then Oliver to John and Thea. "Could she?" suddenly the ship's free fall suddenly stops and their movement seems more directed.
Soon the ship opened and they all stood to their feet. Oliver once again tried nudge Katie wake, but she was out. He once again lifted her into his arms as they stepped off of the ship surprised to see the face of Nate Haywood."
"Oliver...nice clothes." Nate said and the look on Oliver's face showed he wasn't amused. "Right, we should get her to the med bay."
"Yeah, Dig too." Sara said before turning to Oliver. "We'll have Gideon fix them up." they all followed behind Sara.
"You can lay her down there." Sara says once they enter the medbay. She helps John to sit at the other bed before turning to Oliver who hasn't moved. "Ollie it's fine." Oliver looks over to her before he nods and gently lowers Katie to the table. "Gideon, we need you figure out why Katie isn't waking up."
"I will commence with my initial scans." they turn to see a computerized head appear above Katie. Suddenly a wave a light begins scanning over Katie's body.
"What's happening?" Oliver asked about to step forward, but Sara grabs his arm. "What's it doing?"
"All internal scans show Dr. Queen to be in good health." Gideon says. "Her blood pressure is extremely low. Her brain scans show normal brain activity and function." suddenly the ceiling moved above Katie and they watch as some sort of hose descended.
"What's-" Oliver didn't even ask the question before water was suddenly spraying from the hose onto his wife and in an instant the woman jerked awake, startled by the water.
"Oliver!" Katie called and the man quickly ran over just as the water stopped.
"Hey, I'm right here." he said and Katie turned to him then looking over to the others before turning and seeing where they were.
"Are we on a space ship?" she asked turning back to Oliver.
"Actually it's a time ship." Sara said and Katie looked over to her with a nod.
"That doesn't make it any less weird. " Katie said sitting up.
"Hey, take it easy." Oliver says his arms securing around her waist. "How do you feel?" she looked over to him before turning away.
"Fine, I think."
"You think?" Thea said and Katie looked over to see the worry in her eyes.
"No, I'm fine, just—" she turned back to Oliver and placed a hand on his cheek before letting out a deep breath. "I'm glad to be back."
"Well we're glad you're back too." Ray said. "Even more glad that you saved our asses back there during that attack."
"What?" Katie asked turning to Ray who suddenly looked unsure if he should've said that. Katie turned to Oliver. "What happened? What did I do?"
Oliver let out a sigh. "You did it again." he said and she saw the look in his eyes. The fear and worry as his grasp around her never losened. "Only this time it was different."
"Different how?"
"You told them to stop firing." Sara said and Katie looked over to her. "You were with us in the ship and you barely uttered the words "Stop firing" and somehow, someway they must've heard you because they stopped." Katie looked at the woman for a moment before turning to Oliver who let out another sigh.
"Oliver, I didn't-"she shook her head. "I don't remember doing that. I'm sorry-"
"Don't apologize. I'm eternally grateful, but right now we have other problems." Ray suddenly said and they all turned to him.
"What are you talking about Ray?" Oliver asked.
"Back on the ship, after we woke up, I got a look at the tech the Dominators were using to keep us under." Ray said and they all looked over to him. "They're using a neuromorphic interface similar to how I manipulate the atom suit."
"Oh Ray, you and those big words." Katie says sliding off the table to stand, Oliver's arms still around her.
"And-and wait. What does that mean?" Thea asked.
"I-I think the shared hallucination was to keep our minds occupied while the Dominators-"
"While the Dominators what?" Oliver asked.
"Well, while they probed our subconscious. I'm guessing looking for Intel." Ray said before turning away. "Wait. Maybe they didn't choose us at random. Maybe they chose us because we couldn't fight back."
"Because none of you are metahumans." Nate said before turning to Katie. "I mean most of you aren't Metahuman." Katie turned to the man with a quirked brow.
"Who the hell are you?" she asked.
"Oh, Nate Haywood." the man said holding out a hand to her. "I'm the one who flew the ship that saved you guys."
"And how did you find us?" Katie asked, not even attempting to shake the man's hand.
"I didn't, your space army on earth did." Nate said dropping his hand. "And I didn't mean to offend, I was just saying, they grabbed a group of people without any powers and then they chose you. The woman who could mutter a few words and stop an alien attack."
"She's not a metahuman." Oliver says and Nate turns to him with a quirked brow.
"Then what is she?" he asks and Oliver's jaw clenchs and he takes a step toward the man but Katie grabs his arm and pulls him back. "Hey I'm really just curious and trying to figure this out."
"Nate's right." Ray said and they turned to him. "For us, yes it was intel-" he turned to Katie. "For you it was somethnig else. What did they do to you?"
"I have no idea. I have absolutely no memory of being on alien space ship or saying any magic words." she turned to Oliver with a shake of her head.
"Next question- what Intel were they after?" Oliver asked. "What is their plan?"
"Klic-clac-to Nick-lava shack-too." Ray said
"Gesundheit." Thea replied thinking the man was sneezing.
"It's what one of the Dominators said to another." Ray said with a slight chuckle. " Heh. Sounds like the beginning of a not-so-funny joke, but-" he took a step forward. "Gideon. "
"Translating." the AI spoke.
"Did you ever think our lives would really get this weird?" Thea asked over to Katie and Oliver.
"The phrase loosely translates to "We are nearing completion of the weapon." Gideon said.
"What weapon?"
"I'm afraid I have no idea, but I'm tracking the Dominator mothership you escaped from, and it appears to be on a direct course for Earth." Gideon informed. Katie turned away, tugging herself free from Oliver's grasp.
"Twinkie?" Oliver said turning to her and she suddenly frowned. "What's wrong?" they all turned to her.
"Why was I on that ship?" Katie asked and they all turned to her. "You all know the reason, just like I do." she turned back to Oliver. "What if they were trying to use my abilities for this weapon."
"I mean, that pod you were in, the helmet and the wires, it did seem like they were trying to funnel them out of you somehow."
"But it didn't work." Thea said and Katie turned to her. "I don't think they knew how strong your powers were. Whatever machine they had you hooked up to, your powers overloaded them."
"The explosion." Ray said and Katie turned to him with a quirked brow.
"What explosion?" she asked and they all turned to her with that looks of concern it made her angry. "Stop looking at me like that! I'm fine, I'm just trying to figure out why a race of aliens would want to steal these-" she shook her head. "I don't even know what they are. How do they even know?"
"It doesn't matter." Oliver said and Katie turned to him to see him shake his head. "I'm not letting them anywhere near you. When we get back, you're going back to Blue Hill."
"But Oliver-" Sara spoke and Oliver turned a look to her. "They know her now, seen her. If they really want her, they will find her and there's no safe place for her. Right now the safest place for her, hell for all of us is with each other." Oliver just shook his head before turning back to Katie and bringing his arms around her.
Author's Note:
Sorry for the delay. I believe Invasive will have one final part, so stay tuned.

hunter41963801: You know I've been watching Titans and I actually like the show. I really wanted to put them into the story somehow. I haven't figured out a way yet to include them into the story line. I feel like my Robin/Nightwing has a slightly different characterization than the Titan's version.
Bradley Phillips: Yes, Superman and Supergirl are on the same earth as Green Arrow and Flash. Which Titans...I'm still deciding that. I've been watching the new Titans show and just wanted to include themsomeway in case I use them in the story in the future.Wonder Woman, I'm imagining Gal Gadot. Zatanna - I actually don't have a face claim for her. Superman - it has been changing. It started off as Smallville, but I've been watching the new Superman and Lois and It'll probably change. Lois- same as above. Supergirl- Melissa. Christian Bale Batman and suit. The bane thing didn't happen. My brain hasn't gotten the story to crisis just yet, but I assume Team Arrow is going to need as much help as they can get so don't worry, we will be seeing them. Sure, I can add faces for new heroes in the author's note. I agree I love Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luther. And thank you, you stay safe too and i hope you have a happy holiday!
Adela: Nothing was going to stop Oliver from finding her. I'm glad you like it, thanks for the review!
Once again apologies for the delay. I appreciate each and every one of you for sticking around and seeing where this story goes. Special thanks to everyone who added this story to the their fav/follows. And extra special thanks to everyone one who left me reviews.
Sneak peek
"Hey Ollie?" Sara said and the man stopped and turned back to her. "This is kind of a big fight." Oliver quirked a brow unsure why she felt the need to point out the obvious. "It's going to require all of your focus."
"If there's something you want to say Sara, you should say it." Oliver said turning fully to the woman.
"Fine, it just seems like when it comes to her, your attention isn't always on the matter at hand. On that spaceship, you weren't thinking. We were on an alien spaceship and you turned every corner without a second thought. It was risky." Oliver just looked at the woman with a shake of his head. "And even before that, in the hallucination in that last fight, you almost got yourself killed because instead of focusing on the bastard kicking your ass you were focused on her." Oliver heard her, heard the logic and he knew she was right. He also knows he wouldn't have done anything differently. "Look maybe I'm crossing a line here and—"
"You are." Oliver said suddenly and the woman stopped talking. Oliver looked over to her and just shook his head. "Just find me when it's time to land." the man let out a huff before turning and stalking off. He honestly had no idea where he was going. All he knew was that he needed to get far away from words he already knew.
