Chapter Twenty: the Shocking Truth

The trip to Asgard was quick and exhilarating. Both Emma and Jane were ready to do again as though it were amusement ride and not a doorway to another realm. Emma was the first one to notice the tall handsome man standing in front of them. She suddenly wondered if everyone in Asgard was attractive like him, Thor, and Loki.

"Welcome to Asgard, Lady Emma and Lady Jane," the man greeted.

"You must be Heimdall," Emma said, nodding her head and resisting the urge to curtsy. Jane raised an eyebrow at her. "I read up on mythology after New York and everyone of them says that Heimdall guards the bifrost."

"You are very knowledgeable, Lady Emma," Heimdall replied.

"I love to read," Emma admitted; rather bashful.

"Then you would greatly enjoy our library," Heimdall told her.

"How big is your library?" she asked.

"Bigger than you could possibly imagine," he said seriously and she looked at him in amazement.

As a young girl she constantly got sick and the only thing she could do was read or watch television. Her favorite Disney movie had been Beauty and the Beast due to the fact that the Beast had gifted Belle her very own library. She remembered the first time she had watched the movie and her father had decided to build her very own library with shelves lining every inch of the walls in her room. Emma had never loved him more than she did in that moment. Whenever she had missed him terribly she would go back to her childhood home to stare at the library he had built for her.

Thor grinned at the pair of them in amusement before bringing Emma straight to the Asgaridan physicians. Emma and Jane were introduced to Eir who immediately placed Emma onto a table. A golden light appeared and began to scan the young woman, she heard Jane gasp in amazement. Emma was focused on the force they were studying within her using the soul forge or the quantum field generator as Jane called it. Emma was rather worried and she could tell the physician was too, as was Thor.

"This is not of Earth, is it?" Thor asked Eir.

"We do not know, but she will not survive the amount of energy surging within her even with her genetics and enhancements," the physician replied.

"Yes, the Midgardians call her and her grandfather super soldiers," Thor told her.

"Yes, I have noticed that as well but that was not what I was referring to," Eir began but it was at that moment that Odin decided to walk in.

"My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely?" Odin asked.

"She's ill," Thor replied.

"She's mortal, illness is their defining trait," Odin said.

Emma opened her mouth to argue but she wondered what the point would be in arguing with a king especially one thinks are better than everyone else. Odin appeared to be that kind of king.

"I brought Emma here because we can help her," Thor told him.

"She does not belong here in Asgard anymore than a goat belongs at a banquet table," Odin said.

"Okay, now, that is completely uncalled for even for a king of Asgard which I assume you are by the way that you strut in here," Emma said. "I would think that a king would know better than to insult people even those he thinks are beneath him. It is not very diplomatic."

Emma hadn't planned on saying anything but Odin had called her a goat and king or not, he needed to be put in his place. She could feel Thor and Jane's eyes on her while Odin stared down at her. Everyone in the room tensed up and waited with baited breath to see what Odin would do. He surprised everyone by laughing.

"You are going to get along with my wife, I think," Odin said with a gentle smile.

"My king, I noticed something peculiar in her DNA, it seems she does belong here on Asgard," Eir told him.

"Whatever do you mean?" He asked.

"She has Asgaridan DNA, it seems one of her Ancestors was of Asgard," the physician told them.

Thor and Jane turned to look at her in shock. Why were they looking at her as if she knew?

"Don't look at me, I am just as surprised as you are," Emma told them, her blue eyes wide with shock.

"There's more," Eir said. "It appears that Thor is her ancestor."

Now everyone was looking at Thor who could only chuckle nervously.

"Surely you must be mistaken," Odin replied.

"No, I am not. I can only guess but around a thousand years ago Thor made a visit to Midgard and impregnated one her ancestors," Eir explained and Odin gave Thor a look of disappointment.

"Well, I was only 500 years old and you cannot blame me for something that I did when I was young and impressionable. Right, father? Surely, you made mistakes when you were younger. I didn't even know that Asgardians and Midgardians were compatible," Thor said.

"Yes, I suppose that I cannot blame you," Odin paused. "For being a complete fool!"

Emma could understand why Thor was so nervous. It was a complete shock to find out you were responsible for a portion someone's family tree. Emma was still trying to comprehend it all. She always thought that she gotten her blue eyes from Steve, which she did, but where did Steve get his eyes from? Thor? Is that why she could wield his hammer? Can Steve as well? There were so many questions and it was overwhelming. She could feel it building within her. The energy force she held inside of her exploded, pushing everyone aside.
