AN: I want to make it clear that I don't hate Brock. I actually like Brock, he was a fun character. I'm just giving him a hard time as I could totally see him doing what he does in this chapter at the sight of a pretty girl during his tenure as a gym leader. Also, when I mention Jane's appearance her hair is like that of the Alolan or Kalos Officer Jennys, just wanted to make sure that came across to everyone.

Spot Inspection

Chapter 4

-Ash-

"Don't chicks dig scars?" Jane laughed at him, mimicking his, admittedly dumb, question from before.

"Oh, will you let that go?!" Ash groaned, tuning out his team laughing at him as they travelled, his arm having been healed up by the nurse and her Pokémon, so he didn't even have said scars.

"Never!" Jane cackled happily as they continued moving through the forest between Viridian and Pewter, having made surprisingly good time after Nurse joy patched him up and they gave their report to the local Jenny. The fact that they were hurrying to avoid the, as Jane put it, 'orange haired harpy' may have also been a factor.

"Anyway!" Ash shook his head as he worked to change the subject "How is this whole inspection thing gonna work. I do a battle and then you saunter around the gym with a clipboard to see if they keep the bathrooms clean or something?"

"Don't be a smartass Ash, you aren't nearly cute enough to get away with it." Jane scoffed as they finally cleared the trees, Pewter sprawled out before them "As to what happens I'll observe your gym battle and then, after the battle is over, tell the Gym leaders that I'm an inspector, show my badge as proof, and inspect the rest of the gym premises. Assuming they don't do anything stupid to make it, so they fail before that point anyway. If they do something outlandish that would make them fail from the beginning or try to sabotage the match you get your badge automatically. Afterwards, they'll be told that they aren't allowed to tell the other gym leaders about the inspections and that if they do, they'll lose their gym leader status."

"Yikes." Ash blinked at the level of punishment there, but it did make sense. They just found out the regional professor was corrupt and breaking the laws, they were probably trying to do a clean sweep to make sure the main gyms were above board so there weren't any more 'surprises'.

"Yep." Jane shot him a smug grin, "Fear the woman in uniform."

"Duly noted." He chuckled, "So, you mentioned wanting to catch some Pokémon on your journey. Any ideas for what you'd want?"

"Well, a water type for sure." Jane nodded without hesitation "Helpful for dealing with any fire incidents and a good water gun to the face will hopefully cool off any hot heads trying to cause trouble. An Eeveelution might be nice as well."

"I could go for one of the Eevee line, yeah." Ash agreed with her, liking the thought "Not sure about the rest of my team though. I plan to just stick to six so I don't overdo it, especially without a professor to watch them, so I want to be sure to find some good teammates. I mean, these three are already powerhouses so they've set a rather high bar, isn't that right guys?" he glanced back at Pikachu, who was riding on his shoulder, and Slakoth, who was doing their best backpack impression. Scyther was napping away in its pokeball.

"Having seen those three monsters, I don't blame you." Jane shook her head.

"Still annoyed that Growlithe lost to Scyther?" he teased, elbowing her side playfully even as she swatted at him.

"How was I supposed to know that your bug was as broken as those two!" she pointed to the Pokémon riding on his back who looked at her innocently "A Slakoth that has huge power, a Pikachu who's electric power is stronger than a lot of electevire's I've seen, and now a Scyther that can move as fast as yours?! I call hax!"

"Don't be jealous Jane." He stuck his tongue out playfully only to yelp when she grabbed it between her fingers.

"I'm not letting go unless you promise to behave." She stared him dead in the eye as she held him hostage.

"I po-mise!" he slurred out as best he could with his tongue held like it was.

"Good boy." Jane smiled and let go, patting his cheek mockingly before sashaying off ahead of him, "Now come on boys, we don't have all day." Grumbling about teasing women, Ash followed after her, a smirk appearing on his face.

"Still, I think you're missing an important part of that conversation we just had." Ash shot her a playful grin as Jane raised an eyebrow at him.

"What's that?" the league inspector asked him confused.

"If I'm 'not cute enough' to be a smart ass that does still imply you think I'm cute." He gave her a cheeky grin.

"Ha, ha, ha, verry funny." Jane rolled her eyes, palming his face to shove him away as he cackled "Asshole."

Continuing onward, and ignoring the various souvenir traps that tried to catch their attention as they entered the town, they headed towards town's rock type gym, the building easily recognizable from a distance. "They're lucky their score isn't based on creativity." Jane muttered to him as he snickered, just as unimpressed as she was at the depressingly unimaginative gym design. Yes, the rock type gym was a rock. Very creative, much wow. Shaking his head, Ash cracked his neck before pushing the doors open. The inside of the gym was dark, the only active light shining on a gym leader sitting on the far end of the revealed battlefield. The gym leader, Brock according to Jane, looked a couple years older than they were and pretty solidly built as he sat there ominously. Ash had to admit that if he was going for intimidation then he wasn't doing a bad job.

"Who dares enter my-ayayayayay!" Brock's imposing greeting was cut off as he saw them, his eyes bugging out as he got a look at Jane. Hearts in his eyes, Ash saw Brock run over, actually knocking Ash aside to get to her as he started spouting bad pick-up lines and declarations of love. Glancing over at Jane, and feeling sympathy given her displeased expression, he observed her. She wore some tight pants and boots that she said her family down in Alola tended to where, a place she'd also picked up her hairstyle, and she wore a tank top and vest. The only thing that really gave a clue for her being a Jenny were the white gloves that he noticed all of them seemed to wear and even then, that wasn't enough to clue the Gym leader in to who he was hitting on. Still, it was time to step in.

"Alright buddy, I know she's hot but still, have some decency man!" Ash moved between them, getting a grateful nod from Jane while Growlithe growled at the horny gym leader who frowned.

"Please my beautiful teal haired goddess, let us not deny the fate which has brought us together! Return my love I beg you!" Brock was still on one knee and begging, having stopped frowning rather quickly to continue his plea.

"No." Jane shot him down without a shred of mercy.

"I'll give you and your friend gym badges!" Brock tried to offer as Jane finally had enough, eye twitching as she pulled out her badge.

"You're a Jenny?! Oh, happy day, this truly is fat-!" Brock, who apparently had a fetish for Jane's family, began to get even more excited before Jane shoved an empty pokeball into his mouth to shut him up.

"I'm with the League, official Gym Inspections." Jane tapped her badge which identified her as such, "An inspection you just failed, by the way. The league forbids using Gym Badges to barter for personal favors or monetary gain. Offering Gym Badges to get a date from someone counts as that field." Jane took the badge Brock had waved during his offer spiel and handed it to Ash, "Since you failed my partner automatically gets the badge. I'll also be inspecting the facility to make sure it's being kept up to code. And I warn you now, if you inform the other Gyms about the inspection or us then you'll automatically lose your status as a Gym leader. Should you wish to verify my identity you can contact the league." Ash couldn't help but stare at his travelling partner as she took charge, shutting down the lovestruck gym leader as she began forcing him to show her around the facility, clipboard brought out as she inspected and critiqued. Following silently, Ash couldn't stop watching the show as she deemed the facility was at least up to code, and record showed Brock was an acceptable battler, but he was one mess up from losing his license if this behavior was any indication. "As I said, your gym facility passed, you as a gym leader failed, mess up and you're gone." Jane tore the inspection sheet from her clipboard to shove a copy into Brock's chest, "I'd suggest you keep your bad habits private from now on. Come on Ash." Jane gestured for him to follow as he hurried after her, his Pokémon just as stunned as he was.

"Well…that was…something." Ash looked at his boulder badge, glinting innocently as if it hadn't just been acquired through the most bizarre gym experience, he'd ever heard of.

"Yes, yes it was." Jane threw him a smirk, "And I've seen you battle so I know you have the talent to warrant your first badge. Anyway, we have something much more important to talk about."

"We do?" Ash asked, head tilted as they went to go get lunch before continuing onward, their Pokémon not needing rest given the lack of battles.

"Yep." Jane smirked before she pushed him against the wall, fingers against his shoulders as she smirked "So, you think I'm 'hot' do you?" Ash's answer was a loud gulp.
