AN: Sorry about gap between chapter twelve and this one. I lost my notes on the story and had to find/piece them back together. Got the timeline remade and, assuming nothing sets it off track or gets combined, the story is likely to end at chapter 26. I'm going to do my best to include a chapter for this in every update till it finishes.
AN2: Also, to address some reviews. This is not a story of a ten-year-old paired with a grown woman. Jane is 18 in this story as is Ash. That was established back in the first AN of the first chapter. And to those protesting Jane's family getting upset at everything. They're not upset at crimes being exposed, they're just annoyed that Ash and Jane don't have to do any of the paperwork. Paperwork is the most evil of evils.
Spot Inspection
Chapter 13
-Ash-
"Alright, the Gym should just be right…here." Jane sighed when she finally spotted the Fuschia Gym. Unlike most of the Kanto Gyms, this one wasn't located in a city itself but in the forest outside of it.
That by itself wasn't that big of a deal. The reason for the despairing sigh was the fact that it was on the other side of a massive canyon…with a flag single log bridge being the only way across.
"Yeah, don't trust it." Ash deadpanned, "Espeon, be a dear and float us across please?"
"Eon!" the psychic eeveelution happily did so, the little mischief maker even floating Jane into his arms in a princess carry.
"Thank you Espeon." Ash and Jane rolled their eyes in amusement as the little psychic type preens happily before heading back into their ball. His team did not trust being out and about during Gym inspections given how chaotic they'd tended to be. They were on hand if needed but wanted to avoid drama as much as they can.
"Well Ash, welcome to the Fuschia Gym." Jane gestured to the massive walled in mansion compound.
"This place is ridiculous." Ash whistled as he and Jane walked through the gate, "Looks like some sort of Millionaire's home or historical location than a Gym."
"Yeah, the building itself is the oldest of all the Gyms in Kanto." Jane nodded as they entered the main building, "It was made by- whoa!" her explanation of the Gym's unique structure was cut off when one of the floorboards buckled under her foot and sent her against a wall which rapidly spun, tossing her into a side room.
"Jane!" Ash grabbed the still spinning wall as he checked on his girlfriend who was groaning, rubbing her ass from where she fell.
"The hell?" Jane grumbled, taking his offered hand as he pulled her to her feet, "A fake wall?"
"Looks like a storage room." Ash looked about the small space. It was either that or a hiding place.
"This is weird." Jane frowned as they stepped back into the eerily silent main hallway, "Gyms are supposed to have someone out at the front to welcome trainers and see them in. This place looks deserted."
"Ooooooh, here we go." Ash Groaned as Pikachu straightened up to attention on his shoulder, the little mouse looking around warily.
Walking forward slowly, Ash kept his head on a swivel, "Hello? Is anyone-"
"ASH!" feeling Jane grab his collar and tugging, Ash leapt back, the panel beneath his foot having slid away to reveal a Voltorb close to detonating.
"The hell?!" Ash worked to calm down his racing heart even as Jane glares at the angry electric type.
"Umbreon, Hypnosis." Jane brought her eeveelution out, "Put any Voltorb that pops out down!"
"Eon!" the dark type nodded, eyes glowing as the Voltorb rolled back, eyes closed and energy dissipated. They hadn't even met the Gym leader yet but if Jane's expression was any indication, then things weren't looking very good for them. Slowing his breath, Ash expanded his senses, trying to feel for any thoughts nearby.
"There." Ash pointed towards the one source of foreign thoughts he could feel, a small venonat by a set of stairs.
"Venonat!" the little poison type started hopping up to the second floor, clearly baiting them up. Unfortunately, they had to 'play along' for the sake of the inspection.
"Come on." Ash sighed as he and Jane carefully made their way to the stairs, Umbreon staying out to put any Voltorb that popped out to sleep. They continued to carefully make their way down the second-floor hall before Ash let out a muffled curse, his face slamming into some sort of invisible wall.
"That wasn't there before!" Jane took a step back at Ash's sudden unwanted stop, letting out a surprised noise when she backed into yet another invisible wall that hadn't been there before.
"The fuck?!" Ash grit out his teeth, his patience running low from how messed up the vast majority of these gyms had been. Smacking the wall beside him in frustration he had to leap back when the wall to the outside, one directly over an Arceus damned canyon, dropped down to reveal it was yet another trap. One that could have dropped anyone who leaned, or stumbled, against it into the raging river below.
"Venonat?" the same poison type from before poked their head out, having moved yet another rotating wall.
"Alright, that's it!" Jane grit her teeth as she stomped towards the Venonat who hastily bounced away, the door rotating back shut behind her, "Where' the- AAAAAAAAAARGH!"
"Jane!" Ash charged in, having only lost sight of Jane for a moment when she went through the revolving wall. Getting into the next room he saw his girlfriend pinned to the wall with throwing knives, the glint of even more hurling his way.
"ENOUGH!" Ash's team could feel his anger as they burst from their balls. Scyther rushed forward, slashing the thrown knives from the air while Slaking grabbed the attacker by the leg, throwing the shocked woman against the ground hard.
"What are you doi-?!" another man appeared, gaping at Slaking rendering the woman unconscious. He clearly wasn't expecting Ash to take advantage of his surprise to throw a hard punch, knocking the bastard out.
"Jane, are you okay?" now that he was sure the attackers were down, his team were clearly angry and would likely ensure the two didn't get back up if they tried, Ash hurried over, yanking the throwing stars pinning Jane to the wall out. Her answer was to kiss him frantically, the trembling in her arms showing she was likely trying to reassure herself that they were both alright after that.
Holding his shaken girlfriend, noting just how close some of those stars had been to her head, Ash pulled out Jane's Pokegear and rung up her sister.
"What is it this time-…Ash?" Jane's sister, Jenny, blinked in surprise before seeing his expression "What happened?"
"The fucking Gym leader and his damned sister threw knives at Jane's head!" Ash snarled as he turned the video camera to show the Jane shaped arrangement of throwing stars, "Along with a slew of other death traps in this fucking madhouse they're using as a gym!" recognizing the two people he and his team had knocked out as the Gym leaders had been infuriating but sadly not surprising.
"I'll be there shortly." Jenny snarled, eyes showing just as much fury as his own at this stunt.
Safe to say, Fuschia city failed.
AN: Yeah, Koga was never going to win this. If his Gym was just the invisible walls and spinning ones, then it could be passed off as eccentric.
But volatile living explosives in the floor?
Dropping walls that will send you into a massive fall into a canyon unless you're lucky enough to grab on to the smooth dropped wall?
Fucking Aya throwing weapons at people's heads?!
No, these lunatics didn't have a chance in Hell. The last three Gyms will at least have some more fun stuff to dig into.
