Leena's POV
"This is the Salarian homeworld we're headed to" Shepard explained as Cortez drove the shuttle. "They're not used to seeing Krogan here so let's keep it simple, we land, get the females and leave before anyone changes their mind"
"I still don't trust a word they say" Wrex replied while readying his guns.
"We can always kick their asses later" I suggested. Wrex barked a laugh.
"You never cease to make me laugh Leena"
"Let's try having diplomacy play out first" Shepard advised. "We'll get the females out"
"These females are the best and probably last hope for my people"
"We'll bring them home Wrex you've waited long enough for this day" my husband reassured our friend.
Wrex appreciated Garrus's words and they shook hands.
"Is it true female Krogan like males with scars?" Saren asked.
"It depends on the female but yeah our women like scars and you have plenty of them"
"True but so do Garrus and Leena"
I shot the older turian the bird and Wrex laughed again. Saren chuckled as well. Cortez informed us that we didn't have clearance to land.
"That bitch I knew she wouldn't keep her word" Wrex spat referring to the Dalatrass. He then went to the hatch and opened it. Shepard protested as Wrex jumped out of the shuttle and I shook my head while Cypher muttered.
"Stubborn old fart"
"Don't let Wrex hear you say that" I advised the Metal Dragon as I followed Shepard out of the shuttle along with Garrus and Saren. Several of the salarian soldiers looked ready to fight but one of their superiors told them to stop.
"Commander Shepard restrain your colleague we only found out about this transfer a few moments ago"
"I'd like to avoid a diplomatic incident but you have something valuable to Wrex" Shepard responded.
"Something worth dying for" Wrex added.
"This can easily be resolved but we insist he remains under guard" the superior salarian advised.
"Wrex they have a point," I told him.
"Fine, but I'm going to be keeping an eye on them and if they try any funny bullshit"
"I'll keep you company Urdnot so relax" Saren interrupted.
"Nice move, since you're a Spectre these guys know better than to pull a fast one" I praised the older turian who looked amused at my remark.
After some small talk the Salarian who ordered the cease-fire went to go get clearance for us to head down to the lower level of the base. Wrex and Saren were nearby just shooting the breeze while being watched by the two guards.
"Sur'Kesh is nice," I told Shepard and my husband.
"It is but I'm sure there are other parts that aren't" Garrus answered.
A few minutes later our group was notified that we had clearance to go down to where the female krogan were being kept. Before we headed to the elevator we stopped by where Wrex and Saren were.
"I don't like this" Wrex admitted to us. "I should be the one going in but I trust you guys can get the females out safely"
The Krogan then commented salarian livers and I rolled my eyes. The guards looked uncomfortable and I chuckled before we followed the Commander to the elevator. After a brief scan, the elevator opened, and just as we were about to enter it some sort of alarm went off.
"The f**k?" Cypher and I wondered.
We didn't wait around to find out what was going on so we took the elevator down to the lab and when we arrived there the scientists and other workers were rushing about.
"Mordin!" Cypher suddenly exclaimed and sure enough, ahead was the kind doctor who liked to sing. Cypher took flight from my shoulder and soon landed in Mordin's arms licking the poor doc's face. Mordin chuckled before giving the Metal Dragon an affectionate scratch behind the side fins and the scientist came over to us.
The salarian shook hands with Shepard and Garrus while I hugged him.
"Damn Mordin it's good to see you"
"I'm glad to be back in the company of friends," Mordin said.
It turned out Mordin was Wrex's inside source here at the base. Mordin then had us follow him and we passed a room that held several lifeless female krogan. But there was one surviving female and she was immune to the genophage. She was the last hope for the cure and Mordin took us to where she was being held.
Our group couldn't see her well but her form was visible. Shepard introduced himself to the female and she asked if he was there to kill her. She sounded like she was in pain and my heart broke for her.
"This is no way to live" I growled looking at Garrus.
"It isn't" he agreed. "If you were in her predicament I would fight like hell to get you free my Nightshade"
I blushed as my Archangel intertwined my hand into his. The alarms began to ring louder and it was obvious something was wrong above. A few minutes later Wrex was on video chat with Shepard and the krogan explained Cerberus was here.
"Are you f**king kidding me?" I swore. "What the hell do they want?"
It was time to get the female krogan and get the hell out of this place. Mordin took charge and he would make sure the female krogan would be safe. We headed to the elevator but inside was a damn bomb.
"Oh crap!" Garrus protested and we all ran for it as the device went off and we avoided getting seriously hurt. A salarian told us there was an emergency exit at the other side of the room so we went in that direction. Thankfully no bomb was present and we got our guns out.
We followed Shepard up a ladder and made it outside. Wrex and Saren told us they had to take the shuttle. We maneuvered around the base while exchanging gunfire with the Cerberus assholes.
We met up with Mordin and the female krogan on the next level and Shepard hurriedly pressed the buttons to get the pod moving again but Mordin and the female krogan were in trouble. I made Cypher fly ahead to the next level and protect the pod.
Our group shot down more Cerberus troops and while we were doing so the shuttle zoomed by and Wrex said he and Saren were keeping some of the Cerberus jerks distracted. I laughed when I heard Saren tell Wrex to slow down.
On a top-level, a salarian helped us by taking care of some Cerberus jerks with his weapon. But we had to take down another Cerberus asshole and a new weapon. However, we brought the idiot and his toy down before making our way to the next checkpoint.
When we got there Cypher was in full battle mode and unleashed his fury against the assholes firing at the pod. No one could see him due to his illusions. The female krogan was looking tired and Shepard was quick to have the pod advance to the next level.
But more Cerberus assholes arrived and Cypher roared before dousing them in his dragon fire. Eventually, things were cleared and we headed up the landing pad. Cypher was giving the Cerberus troops hell. However just as the female krogan was being transferred a damn Mech showed up.
Having enough Cypher transformed into his larger form and pounced on the Mech. The person in the Mech tried to pry Cypher off but the Metal Dragon wasn't having any of it. With a roar he unleashed a large stream of his dragon fire upon the Mech and the machine couldn't withstand the heat from Cypher's flames.
The human inside died from the heat and to finish things off we killed the last of the Cerberus troops before Wrex brought the shuttle in. Cypher let out a tired roar before reverting to his smaller form. I ran over and got the exhausted Medal Dragon into my arms.
Just as I approached the shuttle I watched as the female krogan use a gun to kill several Cerberus assholes. When she neared me she stopped.
"How is he?" she asked nodding at Cypher.
"Exhausted"
"In my eyes, he's a hero, as are you, thank you for protecting me along with your companions"
I smirked.
"It was one hell of a ride"
The krogan chuckled and together we boarded the shuttle.
"I'm driving the shuttle back to the Normandy, no way in hell is Wrex doing it again" Saren growled.
Back on the Normandy
Still Leena's POV
"So you're a shifter?" Eve asked me. That was the female krogan's name.
"Yes and the turian that was with our group was my husband"
"I figured he was your mate I heard what he told you earlier"
I blushed and Eve chuckled before turning her attention to the sleeping Cypher in my arms.
"I'm glad he isn't hurt, he fought like hell to protect the pod"
"Metal Dragons are tough, though this one likes to get into trouble"
Eve chuckled again and I promised I would come back to see her later. I dropped Cypher off with Liara before going to find my beloved. This time he was in the Main Battery.
"How is Eve doing?" he asked.
"She's recovering, she's one hell of a woman"
"As is the one standing next to me"
"Did you really mean what you said in the base?"
"Yes, I did Leena" Garrus confirmed by drawing me into him. "You are my wife and the love of my life, I will always fight for your sake"
His words made me shed a few tears and Garrus kissed them away. He then placed his forehead against mine.
"Always know your Archangel is here to protect you"
