Leena's POV
"Just where are we going?" Cypher asked from his usual perch on my shoulder.
"A mining facility on an asteroid" Cortez explained to the little guy.
"EDI and I already read the notes in Bryson's lab" Shepard filled us in. "You guys have any questions?"
"Is there a clearer idea of what this "Leviathan" was?" my husband asked.
"Not really we only know it killed a Reaper" Shepard answered.
"This Garneau will know more information" I added.
Shepard agreed as Cortez brought the shuttle into the mining facility's orbit. Soon our group exited the shuttle and we made our way into the facility. Inside other people seemed to be going on about their business but Cypher suddenly growled and bared his fangs.
"Something isn't right here" the Metal Dragon stated.
He was right even though I felt something was off. Shepard took us to the reception desk so we could be signed in.
"I'm Commander Shepard of the Alliance, you just had Reaper troops attacking your front door," the human male told the two men behind the glass. This was true before arriving Cortez mentioned the presence of Reapers being nearby.
"Are they still there?" the man who had to be the receptionist asked in a monotone voice.
"They're taken care of for now" Shepard replied.
"I see that will be all" the other guy added.
"F**k these poor bastards are under some kind of trance" I informed Shepard.
"Yes, my love you're right" Garrus agreed.
The Commander then activated a drone to fix the elevator and once it was fixed Garrus read through the security log to find that Garneau had indeed come through here in the last week. The elevator took us to next level and other individuals we crossed paths with were under the same trance as the receptionist and his colleague were.
"I found a data pad" Garrus announced getting our attention.
Shepard and I joined my beloved and Garrus handed over the data pad to the Commander. With a press of a button, we heard Garneau contacting Dr. Bryson that he went into hiding and Bryson needed to come and get him. Garneau had found another artifact and to be safe Garneau attached a passcode that could be hacked into any security terminal.
With the passcode hack, the security terminal was our next stop. Once it was put in we watched a video that showed Garneau being dropped off here about a week ago.
"Looks like he had full access then went into hiding for some reason" Garrus pointed out.
My husband then pulled up more information and according to what we were reading an unknown male was involved in an altercation in the mines. Garneau's message mentioned the artifact was found in the mines and this mysterious man was now in the med bay. The walk to the med bay was uneventful and so far there was no sign of Garneau.
"If you are looking for Garneau you have found him" a man spoke out getting our attention. We all turned to see a man who appeared to be exhausted. He was behind some glass and the human said he was Garneau. Shepard made his introduction before asking Garneau if he was alright.
"Yes only I'm trapped in here"
Cypher growled again and his tail swished in agitation. Before anyone else spoke the human male muttered something ominous.
"The darkness, it must not be breached"
I then jumped when Garneau slammed his fist into the glass and another voice spoke out of him.
"Why do you pursue me?"
"Holy mother of God that's the Leviathan speaking!" Cypher exclaimed.
"Leave the artifact, you will not take what is mine"
Shepard told the Leviathan we needed its help.
"You bring only death"
The glass then shattered and Garneau made a break for it. Following him was no easy task because he kept shutting things down and our best chance to catch up with him was the mines. While on our way to the mines we had to deal with multiple Reaper creatures and thanks to the Silver Lily toxin bullets we now used in our guns killing the damn things was quicker.
After killing off the Reaper beings the door's power supply had been cut off. So again we needed another drone to fix it. We had to protect the drone while it made its repairs since its power supply was limited. A short time later we arrived at the mines and Garneau was cornered by Husks. Also, close by was a medium-sized black orb and that had to be the artifact. Shepard called out to Garneau and the human male turned to us.
Garneau then told us to turn back before bringing up his hand.
"Shit! He has a detonator!" I yelled and no sooner had I said those words did Garneau press the button down and a small explosion sent all of us onto the ground. When things settled we got back into our feet to examine the ruins from the explosion.
Garrus was next to another lifeless body trying to find some identification while Shepard went to where the now destroyed artifact was.
"Shepard over here" my husband announced getting our attention.
"What've you got?"
"That man wasn't Garneau" the turian explained nodding at the dead man below him. "This poor bastard is and he's been dead for a while"
"Whatever this Leviathan is, it's powerful" Cypher muttered. "The mere thought of something else besides a Reaper controlling you makes my scales itch"
I snorted at my buddy's remark while Garrus informed us that the data pad he held had eight missed calls and they were from Dr. Ann Bryson. The doors nearby opened and in came two very confused humans and an Asari. They appeared to be out of their trance and no doubt had one hell of a headache.
Shepard thought it was a good idea to have medical personnel to come look at the folks on the mining facility before Cortez came to pick us up.
Back on the Citadel
Still Leena's POV
Once back on the Citadel Shepard gave everyone twenty-four shore leave. As usual, Cy chose to stay with Liara while Garrus and I would spend the night in our apartment. After dropping our things off Garrus wanted to go see Castis and Solana. I sent a message to my parents as well as Dani and Owen.
I was at a gun shop just browsing for anything I might need when Bray found me.
"Shit! Bray, it's good to see you!" I greeted the Batarian with enthusiasm. Bray chuckled in response.
"Let me guess Aria wants to see me?"
"Smart girl, she's at Purgatory"
I gave the Batarian a friendly pat on the shoulder before taking a sky car to the nightclub in question. I found the Pirate Queen lounging on a sofa and she smirked when she saw me approaching.
"I was wondering when we would cross paths again" she joked as I sat down. "But then again you are a busy woman"
I chuckled at her greeting.
"True how are things on Omega?"
"People understand that the first order of business is showing them defenses, no one wants another invasion, so their enduring valiantly, once again I am Omega, and it's all thanks to your aide alongside Shepard and that stubborn Cypher, how is his wing by the way?"
"Completely healed in fact we're currently trying to find something that may help with the war"
"Anything that can kill Reapers is beneficial to this f**king war"
I agreed with her before suddenly pulling out my Locust.
"Thanks by the way for this, it's awesome"
Aria smirked in pleasure.
"I figured you'd could use another weapon besides those black and purple marked guns of yours"
"How are you and Nyreen doing?"
I wondered how that Talon Leader was doing after we retook Omega.
"She's working hard with the rebuilding and we're taking things slow, otherwise our relationship looks promising, I'm glad I took your advice about not giving up on her, anyway it was good to see you, Leena"
"Likewise feel free to call up a meeting whenever you need something"
Aria chuckled again as I stood up.
"I'll hold you up to that"
I took a sky car back to the apartment and soon I was out like a light when I hit the bed. By the time I woke up the night cycle was beginning. Snoring got my attention and I found Garrus fast asleep next to me. He was dressed only in a pair of pants which didn't help with the naughty thoughts I had coming into my mind.
I placed my lips on a sensitive spot on his left mandible in a soft kiss. My husband then stopped snoring and he casually opened an eye.
"Damn it I was snoring again wasn't I?" he asked.
"You didn't wake me up babe" I reassured him and I gave his mouth plates a quick peck. The turian mumbled in his grogginess as he sat up. I also heard his stomach growling and mine did the same. I was about to stand up to make us some dinner when my Archangel pulled me back down onto the bed and pinned me beneath him.
The turian smirked before giving me a quick kiss and then he moved so I could get up.
"Try not to burn anything" he teased.
"Oh shut up" I replied.
In response to that Garrus smacked my behind in a playful manner and I told my beloved to behave or else there would be no food.
