After the American members of the SG-1 decided on the itinerary for the excursion it was decided that the trip will be in civilian clothes. And that required shopping for the pair who had hardly ever left the base.
Barbara tracked O'Neill at the base to his office and passed him a printed paper, an impish grin on her face. The colonel took the offered paper, carefully scrutinizing the grin and the paper before taking the chance and unfolding it. He had to reread the message on it several times before breaking in laughter and agreeing with the content.
"Will do, Barbie," the man continued to chuckle as the girl left the office. And she promised to take revenge for the nickname. (No one lived long enough to use the nickname second time.)
The plan for today was only the zoo, as the non-alien adults couldn't decide on a museum to visit. They took a minivan from the base. It was mid summer and the SG-1 together with Barbara were dressed in civilian wear, as was appropriate for the weather. Teal'c was rocking one of the floral print shirts, baggy shorts and a bucket hat that were supplied by O'Neill. The Jaffa was practically beaming in his new and colorful clothes, eliciting a small smile of success from Jack and Daniel with Sam were just happy to see their friend satisfied. Barbara, on the other hand, was glaring from her seat, dressed in a floral print dress. O'Neill had provided the clothes himself so he had thoroughly enjoyed the grumpy face she made at the shoes he had provided. He had provided Mary-Janes for Barbara, but in act of defiance she took the military shoes she was issued to pair with the dress. (The colonel was asking for it.)
It was a short drive and soon the whole group was piling out at the Zoo. They had booked a small tour that allowed them to participate in giraffe feeding and they could also see the behind-the-scenes for 3 more animals. They had chosen the Hippo, Elephant and the snow leopard.
Teal'c was ecstatic from all the animals he was seeing. It was hard to see for the tour guide who was feeling a bit put out by the Jaffa's reaction. But it was easily seen by the rest of the group. It was just that small change in eyebrows angle and that additional shine in the man's eyes. Barbara was also enjoying the day. It has been a while since she has been to the zoo and she was greatly enjoying seeing all the animals in non-native environment for most of them. The rest of the SG-1 team were also enjoying themselves. It was a nice day with amazing weather. Tomorrow they had to be at the base for the ceremony with the U.S. Secretary of Defense Arthur Simms. What Sam didn't know but the rest of the team (and Barbara) knew was that she was getting a promotion.
Barbara was debating with herself as she stood before the monkey's enclosure if she should tell the team about Maybourne's most recent visit to the base. The organization he was part of was dangerous. And currently colonel Maybourne was a danger to her. On the other hand, it was most likely that at least Colonel O'Neill knew that the bastard had visited, he was the second in command after all.
She wouldn't say anything. She didn't want to be obnoxious. And they were doing all they could to help her get back to her reality. (Right?)
But boy, did she have to plan some revenge for the use of that detestable nickname and the clothes. She happily skipped towards Daniel who was standing with Teal'c overlooking the lemurs' enclosure.
"Maybourne was to the base," Jack was walking together with Sam behind the Daniel, Barbara and Teal'c. The linguist was leading the pair showing them all the different animals with Teal'c chiming in when he saw an animal he had seen before. As it was, most of the animals were knew for the Jaffa.
"Did he try to organize another attempt to take Teal'c?" responded Sam, quickly snapping a picture of the trio in front of them.
"He was actually trying to take Barbara," grimly responded Jack, before leading Carter to a glass panel overlooking the chimpanzees. "And I believe he had sent us some company."
The glass panel was allowing the pair not only to look over the enclosure and keep their eyes on the trio who were slowly making their way back towards them. A man dressed in dark clothes with a baseball cap definitely bought in the gift shop passed between the two groups continuing further into the zoo.
"Should we make our way out then?" inquired Sam turning and smiling to meet the rest of their group.
"Yes, I think we should."
