CH 84
There was a knock on the door, and it opened.
"Hey, Stan, how's the shoulder?" Jim asked Stan as he walked into the wardroom with Mike and Madeline behind him.
"It's painful but not as bad as last time. MacGyver distracted me by talking to me, and she popped it in. She's amazing."
"Will he be fit for the mission?" Madeline asked.
"What mission?" Stan asked.
"We're going to raid a suspect's house; it's a four-man team," Jim answered.
"Sorry, Jim, but Stan isn't going anywhere. I just popped his shoulder back in, and you know what that is like," MacGyver says.
"Yeah, I do. Why don't you come along?"
"No," Madeline said with force.
"She's got the training and experience," Jim says.
"She's a woman. What if the guy I'm after attacks her?"
"Then he would come up worse off, Ms. Cruise. Jim, how about Dutchy?" Mike asks.
"No, not him either," Madeline said.
"And why not? He's been over in Iraq, he's worked with the Americans, and he's a team player. Take Dutchy, or your mission is screwed," MacGyver tells her.
"She's right," Mike said.
"Alright, we will meet in the ship's office."
"I would like June to be there," Mike says.
"No, Captain."
"She's got security clearance, and if I want someone to come in and save my ass, it will be June. She's done this before, Ms. Cruise," Jim said
"And she's good at giving input," Mike added.
"Fine," then she walked out of the wardroom in a huff.
"She needs to find a man and get laid more often."
"MacGyver…" Mike said with warning.
"What, Sir?" she said smiling. Mike shook his head and left the wardroom.
"I thought you were in trouble with Mike for a moment there," Jim said
"He knows what I said is true. Stan, let me give you some painkillers, and then you get some rest."
"Sir," Stan says to Jim. "She's a wild one."
Jim smile gave him a knowing smile, "Yes, I know."
Ten minutes later, Madeline, Mike, Kate, Jim, Dutchy, MacGyver, and the two other SAS men were in the ship's office. Madeline briefs them about the suspect and the house of interest. MacGyver was looking over the photos while listening.
"Do you know what he looks like?" MacGyver asked.
"No, we don't have any photos of the guy."
"Well, I do." MacGyver picks up several sheets of paper and passes them to her.
"Where did you get these from?"
"Last night, before the bombing," then she passes Madeline a file.
"My report… Read this; it will answer your questions."
"I'll read it later. Can you tell me which one is the bomber?"
"The one on the right was the first bomber. In the second picture, the one of the woman, is the second bomber."
"Thank you for this. These are very helpful." There is more discussion before the meeting broke up, and everyone left the office, leaving Jim and MacGyver alone. MacGyver brought up a page on the computer then turned to Jim.
"Since you've got some time to spare, here is my report for you to read."
Jim walked over and sat down, then he put his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
"If you got any questions, I'll be in the galley," giving him a quick kiss before walking out.
Jim began reading. Fifteen minutes later, he walked into the galley to the aroma of muffins cooking. "Hey…" Turning to him, she smiled.
"Hey, brew?"
"Yeah, thanks. I read your report."
MacGyver handed him a brew. "Any questions?" He steps forward and wraps her in his arms.
"Jim, are you ok"?
Kate stepped into the galley.
"I was shocked that you…." HHHe pulled back so he could look at her while cupping her face.
"That you would sacrifice yourself to save your crewmates and all those other people. June, I know that you're full of surprises, and last night is just another surprise with what you can do with what you've got around you. You are a true hero, and I love you for that, but one day.…."
"Jim, don't say it, and I love you too," they kiss and hug once more.
Kate smiled at them. "X, is there something I can help you with?" June asked.
Jim pulled back and turned to Kate. "Came to get a brew. Is everything ok?"
"Jim just read my report about last night."
"Ahhh, well, he's right you are a hero."
"Thanks"
When Hammersley docked, the crew found out that they would be taking Australian civilians back to Cairns. They want to return as their holiday was ruined because of the bombing.
Jim gave MacGyver a kiss before he left in a wagon with the others headed to go the house that they would be raiding.
MacGyver returned to the galley to start doing a lot of baking.
Fifteen minutes later, MacGyver left Bird to keep an eye on the muffins while she went to use the head. One of the crew saw her and called out. "MacGyver! Can you come down to austere? There's a problem with one of the guests."
"Sure." She went into austere, which was full of evacuees. She was shown to a man who appeared to be having trouble breathing. "Go and get the nebulizer and first aid bag," MacGyver ordered a crew member.
"On it!" then he left.
MacGyver talks to the man and manages to get him to calm down while his wife is nearby. When the sailor returns. MacGyver set up the nebulizer and started it up; as she was taking the man's blood pressure, Swain walked in.
"Everything ok here, MacGyver?"
"Yep, can you check the woman behind me? The one in the yellow top."
"Sure."
"Are you a doctor?" the man's wife asked.
"Medic ma'am, and so is Swain."
"Ok. I remember you." MacGyver looked at the woman.
"You do, Ma'am?"
"Yes, the bombing last night. It was you, wasn't it. You saved our lives when you told us to get out. You survived the explosion!"
"What do you mean?" the man MacGyver was treating asked.
"The woman from last night, who was on the ground holding her hands over the bomber's hand, it was her."
He looked at MacGyver, "it is you!" Then he put his hand on top of her's.
"Thank you for saving our lives."
"You're welcome, Sir. Now how is your breathing?"
"Better, thank you."
"That's good to know."
"MacGyver," Swain calls to her. "I'm heading back to the wardroom. I need the blood sugar monitor; this woman is diabetic."
"Are her levels low?"
"Yes"
"Alright, get apple juice and a couple of oat and raisin biscuits for her to munch on."
"Good idea," he walks out of the austere.
"My sister's a diabetic; she has lollies if her sugar levels are low," the wife said.
"Yes, but it takes four times longer to reach the bloodstream. She may need to bring up her glucose slowly. Liquid, drinks like orange juice will raise the glucose level quicker. You get a reaction quickly. As for the biscuits, they will cause a slow release which will last till mealtime."
"Thank you for explaining that. I had no idea."
When the nebulizer stops, MacGyver checks on the man. Swain returns, and he helps the diabetic woman sit up and gives her the juice and the two biscuits.
"You're going to be fine. If you need to go outside for some air, let one of the crew members know," MacGyver tells him.
"Thank you," he replied.
"No worries. If you have any more problems breathing, ask a crew member for one of the ship's medics and either Swain or I will come down."
"Thank you so much."
"No worries." MacGyver packed everything up and turned to Swain.
"How is she doing?"
"She's doing better."
"That's good." Then she turned to everyone there.
"Listen up! Do any of you have any medical problems that we should be aware of? Swain and I are the ship's medics." She looked around and saw a woman put her hand up, so she walked over to her.
"Hi, I'm petty office Roth. You have a medical condition?"
"Yes, I suffer from epilepsy."
"Ok," MacGyver took out her pad and pen out then asked the woman some questions.
When done, she turned around and noticed a man walking out of the room. The man turned and looked back. MacGyver recognized him and went over to Swain.
"Swain, get everyone off the boat," she said to him quietly.
"MacGyver?" he said, shocked as she rushed to the door. She stopped and turned to him.
"It's the third bomber! He's here!" Then she ran out of the room. Swain ran to the phone and called the bridge.
"X, it's Swain. The third bomber's here! He's onboard. MacGyver's gone after him. She wants us to evacuate the ship now… in austere. Yes, Ma'am," he hung up and returned to one of the guards.
"We've got to evacuate very one… through the hatch. The third bomber is onboard."
"The man I saw who said he needed air? JJ's gone with him, and MacGyver went after him."
Swain and the crew member got all the guests out that way. MacGyver follows the suspected bomber. She saw JJ unconscious on the ground. Along the way, she grabs black tape and wire cutters. Following the bomber, MacGyver saw that he went into the fuel tank compartment.
Moving closer, she spotted him. She jumped down and tackled the man to the ground while securing his hand that was holding the detonator. She used the bottom of her boot to knock him out, then she managed with one hand to rip strips of black tape and wrap it around the bomber's thumb and detonator. Then she wrapped his hand as well, further securing the detonator. That done, she rips the shirt open and to reveal the bomb.
"Oh boy," she said as she starts to look at the bomb. Then she hears Mike call to her.
"MacGyver," she looked up to see Mike looking down at her.
"Is everyone off?" she asked.
"Yes. Are you going to be able to disable the bomb?"
"Yes, Sir. I've seen this type before. You should go, Sir."
"Dutchy called; the guy's got blueprints of Hammersley."
"How the hell did he get them?"
"We don't know, but the fuel tanks are the target. The raiding party is on its way back."
"Thanks, Sir, you better go as well."
"Good luck"
"Thanks," then he left.
When the wagon stopped, Dutchy and the others got out and ran over to where the crew was gathered. "Mike, what's happening?" Jim asked.
"MacGyver's on board with the last bomber."
"What?" Jim said, alarmed. He turned to look at Hammersley as he stepped forward then stopped. Everyone waited patiently.
"There she is!" Charge said a minute later when he saw MacGyver walking around the side of the ship with the bomber in front of her.
She looked numb as she looked around. Then she spotted Jim and Madeline Cruise. Smiling, she lifted the bomber's jacket showing the disabled bomb with her other hand. The crew and the SAS cheered as they ran towards the gangway. MacGyver noticed that Ms. Cruise didn't look happy.
She walked the guy off the boat. "Stand clear!" MacGyver said. So, they all part ways as they stop cheering, wondering what is going on. MacGyver steps ford with the bomber and stops in front of Madeline Cruise. "Here you go, Ms. Cruise, the man you were after," pushing the guy two steps forward. "Here's his bomb. It's exactly the same as the other two," shoving the jacket into Ms. Cruise's chest. She grabbed it.
"It won't blow up if that is what you're worried about." MacGyver turns around and walks back onto Hammersley. "Sir, before we reload again, I suggest we check every inch of Hammersley just in case there was another bomb on board," she yells out before disappearing behind the RHIB
"Ok." Mike gave out orders, then the crew went on board to check the whole ship until they could declare all clear.
Swain and Charge stepped through the hatch and found MacGyver on the ground, in obvious pain.
"MacGyver?" Swain asked.
"Swain, take me to my cabin, please, and get me some Panadol."
"Your head?"
"Yes, the bomber pushed me against the wall, and I hit the back of my head."
"Charge, help me," Swain said. They lifted her up and took her down to her cabin. Charge stayed with her while Swain went to get a bottle of water and Panadol. While getting MacGyver her med, Swain ran into Mike in the passageway.
"Sir, it's MacGyver; she collapsed."
"Where is she now?"
"In her cabin." Rushing to her cabin, they saw only a small light on.
"MacGyver, what happened?" Mike asked.
"The Bomber pushed me against the wall causing me to hit my head a few times."
Swain passed her the open bottle of water and the Panadol tablets.
"Thanks." She rolled over and took them, then moved onto her back. "Can't stand bright lights at the moment."
"Ok, get some rest… you've done good today."
"Thanks, Sir. Can you let Jim know what's happening?"
"Sure"
"I'll leave the bottle on the floor next to the bed," Swain tells her.
"Thanks, Swain," she rolls over and turns off the light as the three men walk outside her cabin, closing the door behind them.
"Swain, keep an eye on her," Mike says.
"Of Course, will do, Sir."
"And keep it quiet from the others. I'll tell Jim and Kate" then they went to do their jobs.
