CH 88

Half an hour later, Kate walked into the galley. "MacGyver, they're here."

"Thanks, X." MacGyver finished getting dinner for the crew who were on board.

Don, Laura, and Mike approached her. "Smells good. Whatever are you cooking up?" Don asked.

"It's just meat and three veggies, Don, and a fruit crumble and custard for dessert."

"Looking forward to it."

"Thanks. Enjoying the tour?"

"Very much so. It's different from the old boats."

"Yes, it is, and it's got more room."

"That it has."

"Dinner will be ready on time, Sir."

"Thanks, MacGyver. Shall we carry on with the tour?" Mike asked.

After they walk away, MacGyver's phone rings. "Swain…"

"MacGyver, you were right; there was another person involved, Carol long. She tried to change two of the tanks."

"Let me guess, the ones with the marks on them."

"Yup. We called the police. They'll be here any minute."

"Ok. What about the guys from the Navy labs?"

"They just arrived."

"Thanks for letting me know. Oh, make sure she doesn't use her phone. She might try to warn Laura."

"I've got her phone in my hand now."

"Great, give it to the police for evidence."

"Will do," they hung up.

An hour later, MacGyver was sorting out deserts for the crew and guests when Swain, two police officers, and a detective showed up. "Swain," MacGyver greets him.

"Here are the results from the tanks," he passed her a file. She opened it, read it, and nodded. "Does Dutchy know?"

"We already spoke to him. He told us everything."

"And?"

"He's in the clear."

"So, you're here to arrest Laura?"

"Yes."

"Right. JJ, can you take over?"

"Sure."

"Thanks." Taking her hat and apron off, she walked out of the galley and walked around to the senior dining room. She opened the door and walked in.

"June, that was a great meal, and your fruit crumble was delicious."

"Thank you, Don. I've got some bad news for you; I'm sorry."

"What's wrong?" MacGyver passes him the file.

"This is my proof."

Don read the file MacGyver had handed him. "My gosh," he turned to his wife.

"How could you?"

"What are you talking about?" Laura asked.

"Swain!" MacGyver called out.

Swain walked in with the police behind him. "Laura Andrews, you're under arrest for the attempted murder of your husband, Don Andrews, and senior navy sailor Petty officer, June Roth." the detective said. Then he read her her rights while the two police officers put her in cuffs.

"You've got nothing; you've got no proof," she exclaims.

"Police have also arrested Carol Long for tampering with evidence, the text messages, and fingerprints. There will be Dutchy's and my statements as well," MacGyver said. The police took her out of the dining room and off the boat.

"It's over now, Don," MacGyver said.

"I can't believe she tried to kill me for money."

MacGyver returns to the galley to get Swain and RO their dinner. Swain turned to MacGyver, "MacGyver…"

"Yeah, Swain?"

"You've got a visitor."

"Is he tall with short light brown hair with few days of growth and very sexy?"

Swain laughed.

"Your right on all accounts."

She turned to the voice, "Hey, this is a surprise!" she walked over, hugged, and kissed him

"Missed you," she said.

"Missed you too."

"Want a brew?"

"Thanks."

"Have you had dinner?"

"Not yet."

"Share," she said, smiling

"If you're sure."

"Yep." She made him a drink, then dished up her meal but made it bigger than usual. She grabbed two forks and a knife then they walked into the senior's dining room where Mike, Kate, Swain, and Don were.

"Mike, Kate," Jim greeted.

"Jim, this is a surprise!" they shook hands before sitting down.

"I thought I'd surprise June."

"She going to be needing a lot of support, Jim," Mike said.

"Why? What happened?"

"Before I start, Jim… Captain Jim Roth, SAS, this is Don Andrews. He films sharks. Don, this is my husband, Jim."

"Nice to meet you. You've got a great wife here; she's my hero," Don tells him.

"Hero? There must be some story behind it," Jim said, smiling as they shook hands.

MacGyver told Jim about what happened while cutting up the meat and veggies on their plate then sliding it closer to Jim.

When Jim heard the story, he was shocked. "June! You almost died! My gosh, are you sure you're ok?"

"I will be. Swain, you can rub that grin off your face!"

"I can't help it!"

"What's so funny?" Mike asked.

"I can't say, Sir. MacGyver threatened me with toothbrush duties."

Don chuckled.

"All I'm going to say is that Don is going to be very famous thanks to me," MacGyver added.

"Famous how?" Jim asked, and June closed her eyes and shook her head.

"She made a male bull shark cum," Don said, grinning, and Swain laughed.

"Great… just great…" she muttered.

"What do you mean?" Jim asked, confused.

June looked at him and explained. "I scratched under a shark's jaw and down his body close to his twin…. Penises… which in my defense I didn't know what they were."

Mike almost choked on his drink.

Jim thought about it then smiled. "So did you?"

"No, I was inches away when he…uhh… came."

Swain and Don laughed. Mike and Kate look at MacGyver in shock. She turns to Jim, who is looking at her.

"Your joking, right?" Jim asked.

"She's not, and I got it all on film," Don said, snickering.

"June, I know your good with your hands…." Swain and Don laugh even harder. Then Mike and Kate join in as soon as they click onto what Jim was trying not to say.

MacGyver turned to Jim. "That came out wrong," he said, and the others laughed even harder.

"Jim, honey, eat."

"Ahh, good idea." She leaned over and whispered in his ear.

"I rather scratch yours than a shark's," and she moved back and started eating while grinning, leaving a shocked Jim looking at her. Then he smiled.

They change the subject to something else for the next hour before Swain, Mike, Kate, and Don leave the dining room, leaving Jim and June alone to talk.

"How was it swimming with the sharks?"

"It was amazing, Jim, besides what happened. Don said when he returns in a couple of months, I could go diving with him again."

"Are you?"

"I said I'll think about it."

"So, you staying on board tonight?"

"Yeah, sorry Hun, with the report I've got to write, and a special ceremony tomorrow on the wharf…."

"I understand."

"I've got to finish the dishes; we can talk in the galley."

They picked up their plates and went into the galley, where they talked while June finished the dishes.

Then they spend over an hour in her cabin, after they hug and kiss on the back of the ship before Jim walks off Hammersley. MacGyver walked down and into the ship's office to work on her report about what happened with Don. When she finished, she had a copy sent to NAVCOM and to Mike before going to bed.

The following day the crew was on the wharf as the Navy cars showed up. They watched as Maxine, two officers from NAVCOM, Captain Thomas from Feet Command, and the Admiral of the Fleet arrive. Then Ms. Cruise and Jim showed up.

The ceremony begins: "On the fifth of March, Two Thousand and Eleven, Petty officer June Roth risked her own life to save over two hundred civilians and ten Navy personnel on the HMAS Hammersley from certain death. Because of her courage, she is receiving a decoration for according to recognition of persons who in the presence of the enemy, performing acts of the most conspicuous gallantry, or daring or pre-eminent act of valor or self-sacrifice or display extreme devotion to duty. And on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, I hereby present Petty Officer Roth the highest award; the Victoria cross," Chief of the Navy said. June saw Jim smile at her as the Admiral pins the metal next to her other metals.

"And for outstanding devotion to duty or outstanding achievement in the application of exceptional skills, judgment or dedication, in non-warlike situations, I hereby present Petty Roth the Conspicuous Service Cross" He pins the medal on her uniform. Then he shook her hand. "Well Done, Petty Officer Roth VC."

"Thank you, Sir," they saluted, and then he returned to his spot.

June saw the shocked and disappointed look on Ms. Cruise's face.

"In recognition of outstanding duties and leadership skills, I hereby promote Petty Officer June Roth VC to Chief Petty Officer," Captain Thomas said.

Then he stepped forward, giving June her new rank badge and boards, and then shook her hand. They saluted. Then he returns to his spot.

"Hammersley up… dismissed," Kate calls out. They turn as one to the right side, then relax.

The crew congratulated her on her promotion and metals. June is smiling as she walks over to Jim. He cups her face, "I'm proud of you, June."

"Thanks, Jim," then they kiss with the crew to cheering them on.

When they broke apart, they turned to the crew. June noticed Madeline Cruise didn't look happy, but she didn't care. They mingled with the crew for a few minutes, then June walked over to the officers were and saluted.

"How are you feeling, MacGyver?" Kate asks.

"Shocked, I wasn't expecting any of this."

"You deserve it, Chief Petty Officer," the Admiral said.

"Call me MacGyver, Sir, fewer words."

"We shall see."

"Captain Thomas, what is happening with Hammersley's new captain?" MacGyver asked, shocking Maxine.

"We still haven't found one, but we would like for Captain Flynn to remain on Hammersley cause of this ongoing terrorist threat. I know that Lieutenant Flynn is capable of being the captain but with what has been happening… I hope you understand."

"Is that why Lieutenant Flynn wasn't promoted, Sir?"

"MacGyver!" Mike said, shocked.

"Honesty is the best policy, Sir. You know that."

"Well, she's right. Lieutenant Flynn has the experience to captain Hammersley, but we put her promotion on hold for now." Captain Thomas said. MacGyver thought about it, turned to Mike and Kate, and Maxine, who had a smirk on her face. Then she looked around to the crew who was talking to Jim and Ms. Cruise walking away. She turns back to them.

"Lieutenant Flynn would have been promoted if this terrorist thing never happened?"

"Yes."

"That sucks, Sir."

"I know."

MacGyver turned to Mike and Kate, then looking at Maxine, who was standing next to Mike.

"Promote her, promote Lieutenant Flynn to Lieutenant Commander Flynn, and have her stay on Hammersley as the XO, Sir." Maxine looked shocked. Then MacGyver turned to face Captain Thomas.

"Are you serious, Chief Petty Officer?" Admiral asked.

"Think about it, Sir; Commander Flynn can still be Captain until the terrorist threat is taken care of. I'm sure they will understand." Turning to Mike and Kate. "Will you two accept this? And, Sir, you've still got your sea legs and the best and craziest crew behind you both."

Mike and Kate look at each other. "What do you think, Kate?"

"I Don't know; we can't be on the same ship."

"Why not?" Maxine asked.

"Commander White, their last names should give you a clue, including their left hands. They are married. Kate is Mike's wife. That is why he was supposed to be on Hammersley temporarily until a replacement can be found."

"What?" Maxine was shocked. "No, I didn't."

"Sirs, I'll leave you to think it over and talk about it," saluting, she turned around and walked over where the crew had been waiting.

"So, Charge, I'm looking forward to cooking up all of that rabbit food that you love so much. There is nothing you can do about it but eat it and enjoy," causing the crew to laugh.

"Very funny, MacGyver. The crew's talking about celebration drinks tonight."

"Ah, really, well, I don't know what I'm going to be doing tonight," MacGyver responds.

"What? You're not going to come? You're the guest of honor!" Two Dads said.

"I know that, Two Dads, but I might be on the evening shift."

"Oh…"

"June, I've got to leave for a meeting," Jim told her.

"I'll walk with you."

"Hey! Don't do anything we wouldn't do!" Charge said, grinning.

"And just what do you think we might be doing, Charge?"

"Well… you know…." Charge said suggestively.

"We'll be walking and talking," she said, shaking her head at him. Jim said his goodbye to them then he and June walked towards the guardhouse.
