CH 95

Mears came to, jumped up, and attacked MacGyver. She did a three-sixty kick causing Mears to spin around and fall through the sliding door, crashing onto the ground. When she went over and checked him, he was lying with his eyes open and blood pouring out of his neck. A large shard of glass protruded from the side of his neck.

MacGyver stood, "He's dead," she proclaimed.

"Now we'll never get the main man I'm after," Madeline lamented.

"I think we can…." MacGyver responded as she looked at his laptop that was still open on the hotel desk.

An Hour later, Dutchy and MacGyver told the police that they saw the man attacking Madeline and how they rescued her. MacGyver gave them her report as they took notes.

"So…From what you said, it was an accident. A piece of glass from the door cut Mears artery causing him to bleed out. Also, you stated that you heard his neck snap when you kicked him in the side of the face in self-defense," the police chief said.

"Yes, Sir"

"You're free to return to your ship."

"I hope this doesn't have any bearing on the Navy coming here for a goodwill visit in the future," Dutchy asked.

"No, it won't be a problem, Petty Officer Mullholland. You and your crewmate were helping out a woman who would've died if you weren't here. Falls under 'self-defense'."

"Thank you, Sir," MacGyver said.

When they returned to Hammersley, Madeline was with them. MacGyver and Dutchy told Mike, Kate, Jim, and RO everything that happened.

"At least we got this," MacGyver said, showing them the laptop.

"That's great," Mike said.

"But Mears was the go-between, and we lost him," Madeline said.

Just then, the laptop emitted a beep. There was a message.

Macgyver went to the computer and started typing, 'boarded by Navy, everything on track with the deal'. They all watched as a reply immediately appeared. There was going to be a meet, and Mears was given the coordinates.

"We are going to need a boat," Jim says.

"I can recall the boat that you were on, Jim. They were heading to Darwin and have some of my crew on board." Mike offered.

"You've got a great knack for undercover work if you ever want to leave the Navy."

Everyone looked at Mike and Madeline, surprised by that statement.

"No, thank you," Mike replied.

The following day Jim was climbing a ladder when he collapsed against it.

"Whoe … captain, that is not a way to get on board a RHIB," Charge said, hanging onto Jim.

"I'm canceling this operation," Kate said, then she went to let Mike know.

"I knew it; he's not ready. He can be a stubborn fool," MacGyver said, annoyed with her husband.

"He said he was fine," Madeline said.

"I'll go and check on him and give him a kick up the ass," MacGyver said as she went downstairs to the wardroom.

"What am I going to do with you, Jim."

"Sorry," He said with his hand on his head.

"You bloody fool, if I didn't love you, I would threaten you with a kick up the ass, wall torcher, and toothbrush duties," causing Swain to grin.

"How am I going to get into your good books?"

She hugs him. "I don't know yet. With you out of action, someone will have to take your place" she looks down at him.

"Who?"

"What about Dutchy? He knows what's going on, and he knows his weapons."

"Okay, it's a good idea. Mears is the only one who knows what I look like."

"I'll let Ms. Cruise and the captain know. You stay here."

"Yes, Ma'am."

Returning to the bridge, MacGyver told them all her plan. "Dutchy can in Jim's place and have Swain, Charge, and Two Dads as the crew. Jim said that only Mears knows what he looks like."

"If Tarak doesn't know what Jim looks like, it might work," Madeline added.

"Okay, we'll need to find some way to listen in to what is going on. Two Dads?"

"Ahh. I can use Ms. Cruise's sat phone and have it so we can listen in."

"Yeah, this will work," replied Madeline.

"Great! Get to it," Mike said.

Half an hour before the meeting, Ms. Cruise used her computer to send. RO was holding on to it, and he passed it to her. Taking her laptop, Madeline walked off the bridge.

"When you finish, Ms. Cruise, I'll be in the comcen," RO told her.

"Alright," then she walked off the bridge.

Moments later, Ms. Cruise took the laptop to comcen and returned to the bridge. She was unaware that MacGyver was in the comcen with her own laptop and portable hard drive. RO watched as MacGyver hooked her laptop to the hard drive, the ship's internet, and Madeline's laptop.

MacGyver managed to get into Madeline's laptop. After making a copy of Madeline's laptop, she checked out everything she had been doing. "This is interesting," MacGyver mumbles. She checked the terrorist website and saw that every anti-terrorist agent's name and photo were on the site. Typing in Jim's name came up with a picture of him in his uniform.

"OH NO! If Jim was to go to the meeting and they got into the same site, they would kill him," MacGyver exclaimed.

"Dutchy," RO said. "Type in Dutch's name."

Dutchy showed up on the terrorist's list.

"We've got to warn them," RO said.

"I've got an idea; I just hope it works." MacGyver started typing madly while RO watched on in amazement

"You're in."

"Yep."

She checked out when Dutchy and Jim's picture was posted.

"Oh my God, I knew it!" She typed away and got a copy of everything, then she removed the photos and information on Jim and Dutchy.

Then she checks to see if Madeline is on the list; she's not there. Next, she checks to see if any of the crew is there. There were three more names; Mike and Kate were also on the list showing their names and photos. So she removed them and made copies of everything, including when they were put up. When she finished, she checked to see if Jim and the others were still on the list. When there was nothing. She sat back and relaxed.

"I hope I got to it in time."

"I better get this to captain" MacGyver disconnected the laptops. "Thanks, RO, not a word about this; I'll tell them later."

"Sure." RO returned to the bridge with the laptop while MacGyver locked her portable hard drive into the safe and took her laptop to the wardroom.

"Hey, what's wrong, June," Jim said, noticing the concern on MacGyver's face.

"This…." she showed him the photos of him and the others along with the information on them.

"Where did you get this from?"

"Ms. Cruise's laptop. Look at this," she showed him the information she had found. "Jim, she posted this last night from her laptop. I removed it. Plus, there's this…." she showed him Dutchy's profile. This was posted last night, and that you were going on the mission. There's more."

"More?"

"Yes." She showed him Kate, Mike's pictures and profiles.

"My God, I had no idea."

"Jim, she is trying to get us killed, and it's also on the ASIO alert list."

"Okay, now what can we do?"

"Carry on as normal; that's all we can do."

Dutchy was on the boat talking to Tarak; they agreed on the price and completed the deal. Then the weapons were taken on board Dutchy's boat. Tarak took a photo of the Dutchy and tried to find a match but came up with nothing. Once the security check was complete, Dutchy and others left on the boat.

After following Tarak and getting close to international waters, Mike sent a boarding team that included MacGyver over to Tarak's boat. The team boarded the vessel and arrested Tarak and his men. Mike had two crew members take Tarak's boat to Cairns. As she walked away, MacGyver noticed the look on Tarak's face when he looked up the side deck.

"You know her, don't you, Tarak," he turns to MacGyver. She set you up, didn't she. What was her plan?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Yes, you do. She used an undercover agent who borrowed weapons and sold them to you. If the real agent had found out, he would have had you killed after the money was transferred into the account. Am I right?"

"Yes, you are right."

"Well, then she double-crossed you and Mears."

"Mears got away."

"No, the real Mears died last night when he tried to kill that woman. He must have known that she was planning to double-cross you and him. He was about to send a warning message about the double-cross but was accidentally killed in her hotel room."

"If what you're saying is true, then she a dangerous woman."

"I know." MacGyver took him down to Austare with the others, then she went to see how Jim was doing.

They returned to homeport. MacGyver and Jim left to go to the hospital to get a CAT scan. After it came back all clear, they headed home. On the way they stop off at the supermarket to buy a few things.

RO saw Dutchy, "Dutchy!"

"What is it, RO?" as he followed RO into the comcen.

"This," he passed Dutchy a file. Opening it and read it, flipping the pages as he did.

"Where did you get this? "

"MacGyver hacked into Ms. Cruise's laptop while you were with Captain Roth."

"I don't believe this, then I could have been wounded or killed."

"Macgyver managed to remove you from both sites." Then the door opened, and Mike walked in.

"RO, you wanted to see Kate and me?"

"Yeah, close the door, Sir." RO picks up two files and passes them to Mike and Kate.

"MacGyver hacked into Ms. Cruise's laptop; you need to read it, Sir."

Mike and Kate open the files and start to read. "My God!" Kate exclaimed when she read about what was said about her. Then she looked over to Mikes's file and saw it read the same.

"There' more Sir, MacGyver talked to Talak about why he is buying arms. What he told her is very interesting, Sir" he passed him a pen drive.

"She recorded the talk she had with him, and he gave her permission to look through his laptop. After looking at it, she downloaded everything, including copies of the messages and passwords so she could get copies of the messages between him Mears and… spook." RO passes Mike another pen drive.

"It's all on here. MacGyver managed to get it all before Ms. Cruise took the laptop away."

"What? RO, are you saying that Madeline has been in contact with Mears and Talak all this time?" Dutchy asked.

"Yes, it's all on the pen drive, including the bank account number for where the money was going to be transferred. We stopped it before he could transfer the money."

"Any idea which account it was going into?"

"No, but MacGyver's going to find out. She has a couple of the account numbers, Sir."

"Thanks, RO."

Arriving home, MacGyver and Jim sorted out the groceries then went and enjoyed a long hot shower together. Afterward, they cooked dinner together and sat down and enjoyed dinner and dessert, and had an early night that night.

The next day while Jim was at work, MacGyver used her supercomputer to look at the copies of everything from Tarak's computer from the pen drive. Then she searched the bank account number to find out which bank it belonged to and the name on the account. MacGyver was able to hack into the account. She saw a name, address, and phone number. When she got what she needed, she got out before the alarms went off. Then she hacked into a telephone company to find out who owned the phone number and managed to trace it to NAVCOM. She opened a drawer, picked up a burner phone, and dialed the phone number.

"Hello?"

"Is this Gina?" MacGyver asked.

"No, sorry, you must have the wrong number."

"Oh, the number that was given to me is zero-two-seven-seven-six-four-one-three-six-two…."

"Sorry, you dialed the wrong number; the last two digits are six-seven."

"Oh, okay, sorry for disturbing you," MacGyver hung up. "Gotcha," she said, smiling.

A few days later, Hammersley left port for a six-week patrol. Mike, Kate, Dutchy, and MacGyver were in the ship's office. MacGyver told them about her findings, including who owns the bank account, the phone number, everything passing to Mike.

"What would Madeleine want all that money for?" Dutchy asked.

"That is a good question, Dutchy. She must want the money to buy something… but what? You are going to find the transactions very interesting."

Then she opens a file, slides it to the other side of the table, and moves the sheet to one side. Mike, Kate, and Dutchy look at the two.

"I don't understand," Mike said.

"Madeline has been hired as a hitman. See the crosses next to most of them? They were assassinated or killed by Jim or one of his men or Madeline herself. The third suicide bomber was murdered; stabbed during the night. It is all there… and yes, captain Thomas was informed about this. But what is very interesting is these three men…'' she pointed to on the list. "There's no cash exchanged, and the one who's behind hiring Madeline is from Afghanistan. He might be sending her something as payment for having the three men killed."

"Any idea what it might be?" Kate asked.

"No, but I've received a couple of favors from people I know overseas. They know this guy and will find out and let me know."

"You've done well, MacGyver."

"Thanks, Sir."

"Does Jim know?"

"No, I haven't told him yet. If I did, he would be questioning the men that he and his guys have to track down to find out the reason did it."

"I understand."

"I hate keeping him in the dark, but I know he will understand."

"I'm sure he will," Kate said.
