AN: So this is a missing scene of A Season of Miracles. I had this scene in my head but could not figure out how to make it fit into the actual chapter. Nathan's section just did not have a good break point. I hope you all enjoy it!
"Can you go to the window and make sure Dad actually leaves, Dr. Carter."
Faith smiled at the girl's request as Carson settled in the chair at the bedside with Nathan's guitar. Faith had seen quite a few reactions from sick and hurt children while being a nurse. For the most part, the child just wanted a parent near. While Faith new that Ally wanted Nathan with her, the child also understood that her father needed time for himself.
Standing at the window, Faith spotted Nathan in the moonlight. His footsteps were taking him in the direction of the church.
"Looks like he is heading toward the church," Faith reported as she turned away from the window.
"Good," Ally stated, clearly relieved.
"Shall we start our caroling session, then?" Carson asked.
Ally nodded her consent and Carson started a song. Faith came back to the bed and settled near the foot of the bed. She joined in on the singing, enjoying this moment with her fiancé and Ally. Watching him interact with Ally, Faith could not help but think about what a wonderful father Carson would be to their own child.
Faith felt her cheeks flush with the thought that she was already thinking they would have children. They were not even married now. Ducking her head and hoping her flushed cheeks would go unnoticed, Faith's gaze drifted to the blanket. Movement underneath the blanket caused all thoughts of her own embarassment to melt away.
"Ally, you are moving your foot!" Faith exclaimed, elated at the development.
"What?" Ally said, having not realized it. She now looked down at her feet and tried to move the other one, her own smile on her face.
Carson had set the guitar aside as Faith moved from the bed. Pulling the blankets back, Carson sat at the foot of the bed. Giving the girl a series of instructions, Carson examined the girl. As he did so, a smile came to his face as well.
"Am I going to walk again?" Ally asked, the hope clear in her voice.
"Yes, Ally," Carson said looking up at the girl. "You will walk again. There is still some weakness, which is to be expected, but therapy will take care of that. You need to be careful these next few weeks. A fall could cause a set back, but you will get there."
Ally threw her arms around Faith who had sat down near the head of the bed next to the girl.
"I can't wait to tell, Dad," Ally exclaimed.
"Who said, we have to wait," Carson said. "I can carry you to the church if you want to surprise him."
"Can we?"
Carson nodded. "I do not think this is news that should wait," he told her.
"I will help Ally with her shoes if you go get our coats," Faith told him, going for the shoes sitting by the wardrobe. She was thankful that they would be able to give Nathan the happy news and on Christmas Eve. It was just the uplift that she thought her friend needed after everything he had been through.
