Binding the Galaxy Together
Chapter 12 – A Vision and Bullies
After leaving Izuku to his classes at school, Camilla was left on her own once again to figure out what to do until she met up with him again after he was released. Walking through the streets was peaceful enough. Though a few turns and a few minutes of walking led her to realize one problem. She needed to figure out just where she was. There were a lot of signs at the corners of these streets. But the words that were printed on them were beyond her Force vision to see. Even if she could, not that she could read them anyway. She didn't know Japanese as Ryukyu called it. So she had to map out where she was in her head by some notable landmarks. Izuku's school counted as one. The beach was another as well as Ryukyu's agency. So she backtracked. First she went to the beach and the stench of trash filled her nose again. Breathing through her mouth, she called on the Force again to get a view of the trash still there. All Might really wanted Izuku to clean all this up in nine months time? It seemed like a tall order but Izuku seemed driven like hell to prove he could do it. Even without a quirk like nearly everyone else had, Izuku wanted to be a hero. The thought made Camilla smile. He just wanted to help people. No money or fame is what he was after. He was just a good person and wanted to be a good person for everyone else for no other reason.
Why would someone like that get bullied? Someone who just wanted to help was shunned and tormented just because destiny dealt him a bad hand a birth? It seemed wrong on so many levels. And that Katsuki person...just what was his deal with him? In the span of a few minutes more questions popped up about Izuku that she wanted to know the answers to. Maybe today after he was done with school she would get them. But…she needed to know what time it was in order to do that. She wasn't quite sure how time fully worked yet on this world save for a few tips from Mirko and Ryukyu. One thing at a time she figured. She only had one thing she had to do today before she just kept wandering through the city so she headed away from the beach and got on the communicator to ask Ryukyu for directions from the beach to the hospital she was taken to when she crashed. It was a ways away but thankfully it wasn't too much. When she got there only half an hour had passed by.
Upon walking into the lobby a very sterile smell came to her. It was much better than what she was sniffing in at the beach and kind of familiar. Like every other medical room she'd ever been in at the temple and the cruisers that took her and her master from planet to planet in the wars. Looking around the general lobby she could see a few people sitting in the chairs a ways from the front desk, and two people behind the desk. She walked up and waited behind the man in front of her for her turn. When he left, Camilla stepped up to the desk. She asked if Doctor Aoki was in today and she was. All in all, the encounter with the doctor didn't take very long. All Camilla wanted to do was go in and apologize to her for mind tricking her into giving her back her things. Thankfully for her, she had received a call from Tsukauchi prior to her arrival and was told not to breathe a word about Camilla having power to anyone for security reasons. Doctor Aoki forgave Camilla quite easily and she went back to her work. And that left Camilla alone to try and figure out how to pass the rest of her day.
For an hour she just wandered around and took in a bit more of the city she was trying to get acclimated to. A few interesting smells that were much more appetizing then the beach and the hospital brought a smile to her face. She wasn't sure what they all were but they smelled good. Some sweet, some savory, just so much good food she wanted to try. So far whatever she ate here had been quite fun for her. Maybe Ryukyu would bring her some good lunch. She wondered what it would be.
After that hour passed, she used the Force to hop up on the roof of a nearby building. There was no one around and a hatch in the floor that led down into it. So this roof wasn't a place where people normally came. So that was good. She wouldn't be disturbed. Sitting down cross legged, Camilla began to focus her breathing and recite the mantra of the Jedi once more.
"There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force."
Recalling these words and the teachings of her master, Camilla let herself fall into a tranquil trance within her mind as she focused. Whenever she did this in the past in the temple, she could from time to time see things. Glimpses mostly. Usually whenever she tried to meditate hard enough to see the future it never worked out for her and she ended up with just a headache for her efforts. Trying this hard while she was in a world washed over in Force energy brought about a different reaction.
When Camilla opened her eyes again and tried to look around, she didn't see the lining of the roof of the building she was on. She couldn't see anything at all. No sounds either. No smells, no anything. It was like she just entered some sort of void.
"Hello?" Her voice echoed out. "Where am I?"
Turning around, Camilla couldn't see a thing. It was like she was truly blind. Then a moment later a light could be seen in the distance. So she began to walk towards it. Camilla couldn't really put her finger on it but this light…it felt warm. Really warm. But at the same time it was cold too. How could it be cold and warm at the same time? When she got closer, the young Jedi was able to see this light wasn't just random. The shine was coming from a person she had never met before. She didn't know why the Force was showing her this person, why being near them felt hot and cold at once, or why the light over their heart was red and white swirling around together.
"Who….who are you?"
The figure before her didn't answer. Instead, the person just held out a hand for her to take. Before Camilla took one step, more bodies began to phase into existence next to or behind this figure. More bodies began to form next to the first one on both sides but their forms and bodies were fuzzy and distorted making them harder to make out distinct shapes. Each one had their own distinctly colored light to it. Blue, pink, green, red, white, orange, purple, and so on the lights came to be as the bodies kept forming. The last one to form Camilla could recognize. It was Izuku. She recognized his green light from earlier but…it was brighter now. And it wasn't alone. There were more lights inside his body making nine in total just like All Might's.
One by one, this vision of Izuku along with the nineteen other people there held their arms out, beckoning Camilla to come to them. Confusion more than anything was overtaking the girl's mind now as she looked upon these twenty people just wondering why the Force was showing them to her.
"Trust them, my apprentice."
Camilla gasped and turned away from the group, looking for that voice and knowing whose it was.
"Master?!"
"Trust them, Camilla."
"Wait, Master! Please! I don't understand!"
Not another word was spoken and the figures all faded away. In her high emotional state right now, Camilla woke back up on the rooftop in a startled gasp. Her Force vision showed her the roof she was on before she fell into that vision. He breathing was heavy in this state as she tried to make heads or tails of what the hell it was she just saw. The Force has never shown her anything like that before. And she could hear her master's voice. Was that last part of her code really true? Was Master Morlev really somehow still alive?
"Just…what was that?" She asked herself as she gripped her head. "I know one of those people was Izuku but….who were the others? Why was Izuku so bright? And that hot and cold person. He was the only other one with a clear shape. What is the Force trying to tell me?"
"Well it sounds like you've had quite a journey."
Whipping her head back around, Camilla knew the voice as Ryukyu's and there she was standing behind her.
"How long have you been there for?"
The dragoon hero approached her and held out a hand for her to take, which the young Jedi did and she pulled her up to stand again.
"Just a few minutes. But you've been up here quite some time. I saw you when I was flying overhead patrolling and figured I'd get us some lunch."
Ryukyu held up her other hand and shook a brown paper bag she was holding in it.
"Lunch?"
Camilla thought she misheard. It was still morning when the vision began and it didn't last that long.
"What time is it now?"
"It's a little bit past noon."
"But….but I was only mediating for a few minutes. That's how long my vision lasted."
Ryukyu's interest grew. A vision? From the Force? That had to be something worth hearing about.
"What did you see?"
On the one hand, Camilla wanted to explain everything in detail. On the other, what good would it do? She couldn't make heads or tails of what she was shown. Or rather who she was shown.
"I'm not entirely sure what I saw." She answered the hero back. "I need to think on it more."
For now she would keep it to herself. No need worrying her caretakers more than she probably already has at this point. It was just a vision after all. Thankfully Ryukyu seemed OK with letting her work it out on her own.
"Just don't think too hard it makes your head hurt." She joked. "Now are you hungry?"
As it turned out, she was. Sitting there for that long had made Camilla quite ready for lunch. Or breakfast for her since she didn't have any food yet today. When she told Ryukyu that the dragoon hero told her to remember to eat something in the morning. The kitchen had a few boxes of cereal bars and juice packets if need be so Camilla could eat. Right now though, it was time to show Camilla just what a burger was.
Easily this was another tally in the win column for Earth's food choices. First the udon Nejire made her, then the tamagoyaki All Might bought, the donuts from Tsukauchi and now this from Ryukyu. The pro had gotten the kid a simple plain cheeseburger to start her out with and a side of fries. Camilla took to it like a moth to a flame. She devoured the whole burger in a matter of minutes and the fries were quick to follow. While she did like that Camilla enjoyed it, Ryukyu made it a point that food like this was only to be had in spaced servings because they weren't the healthiest of foods. Especially for someone aiming to be a student at U.A. High. The teen seemed to pout at that.
"If it's not healthy then why do they make it taste so good?!"
Ryukyu just chuckled. Of course that was her reaction. It was every teen's reaction. A bit more explaining let Camilla know that a lot of food like this was only when someone wanted to treat themselves like Tsukauchi did with the donuts yesterday. Tasty but eaten in large daily quantities would deteriorate a body and weight gain would become a big problem. Camilla definitely didn't want that. So she agreed. No bad foods like this unless it was a special occasion. Not that she had any choice. No money meant she had to go with the choices of others.
When it was time for Ryukyu to head back out again, Camilla asked for one favor. To let her know when it was close to 3:15 so she could meet up with Izuku again. An easy task. Ryukyu set her phones alarm to 3:00 and told Camilla she would contact her with her communicator when it went off. With that, she transformed into her dragon body and flew off the roof leaving Camilla alone with her thoughts.
That vision still bothered her. That was definitely Izuku standing there but the lights on his body. Those were the same lights as All Might's. Did something happen today that she wasn't yet aware of. Waiting for the time to go by for his school to get out was going to feel so slow. And boy did it. Every minute that passed felt like an eternity. Even walking down the streets some more and noting a few more landmarks in her head didn't make the time go by any quicker. Eventually though, the call did come in.
"Camilla, its Ryukyu. It's three o'clock. If you want to meet that boy at his school you better head over there."
After thanking her, the red haired teen turned right around and began to jog down the sidewalk making sure to avoid other people in front of her. As she felt that it was getting closer to the time to go, she began to head back in the way Izuku's school was in the first place starting with the beach. She was afraid for a moment she wasn't going to make it there in time but she did. The moment she came up on the entry way into Aldera Junior High, the final bell rang releasing the students for the rest of the day. It took a minute or two for the students to begin flooding out the doors but once they did boy they did. Camilla couldn't keep track of who was who even with her vision helping her. The crowd was too big. Standing out of the way of the gates, she pressed her back to the wall and let one of her feet rest against the bricks. Hopefully Izuku didn't forget and would find her.
All throughout the day, Izuku had been more nervous than usual. No one really seemed to catch onto it playing it off as just Midoriya being Midoriya. So he was thankful for that. He didn't need nor want people questioning him about it. The idea that he had plans to meet up with a girl after school was leaving a blush on his face every time he thought about it. There was nothing romantic involved and it sure wasn't a date. They were just gonna walk and talk. But still. He had never done so with anyone in a very long time, let alone a girl. So when he left school that day and walked outside, he did his best to calm himself down remembering Camilla's words. She wasn't gonna bite him or anything. It was just talking. And he was the one to suggest it. So he couldn't make up some lame excuse or anything to back out of it. Not that he intended to in the first place. That would be rude.
As he walked out, he looked around and looked for the red haired girl. She shouldn't be hard to spot. She would be the only one there not wearing a school uniform. When she wasn't in front of the gate, Izuku walked past it a ways and turned to his right. Sure enough, there Camilla stood waiting for him leaning against the wall. In her hand was the red piece of metal hovering above her palm as she waited.
"Camilla?"
Hearing her name called, Camilla returned her lightsaber to her belt and smiled when she noticed Izuku there in front of her.
"Hi again, Izuku." She greeted.
"Hi." Izuku snapped out of his trance from watching her power get used. "So uh…you ready to go?"
"Yeah. Let's get walking."
And so they did. Izuku gestured for her to follow him as he made his way back to his home. As they walked side by side, the two of them didn't notice that they were being watched. Three boys, one of them being Katsuki, were watching the two walk off together with quite a bit of surprise. The quirkless boy was hanging out with a girl? When did that become a thing?
"Hey no way. You don't think Midoriya has a girlfriend now do you?" One boy with red wings wondered.
Katsuki just scoffed in response.
"Like there'd be any girl on the planet stupid enough to date that loser." He snarled.
"So what are we gonna do?" The other friend of his asked.
Katsuki was thinking about that. He had made it a point to avoid Deku ever since the sludge villain incident a while back. But every day he would hear his ex friend's mumbling behind him about going to U.A. High. The nerd still hadn't gotten it through his head that he couldn't be a hero. And now just today, he had heard him mention something about a girl's potential to get in while he kept writing in that damn notebook he burnt weeks ago. Was that redhead the girl he was talking about? Was she somehow persuading him to keep trying for a hopeless dream? If that was the case, then Katsuki suddenly found himself with a job to do.
"Come on." The explosion user beckoned his friends to follow him.
The two followed with smirks on their faces. They didn't know what was about to happen but it was sure to be fun to watch.
A few streets down from the school, Izuku was making his way back to his home while Camilla stayed right by his side.
"So what did you do today?" Izuku asked not knowing what else to say.
"I mostly just meditated." The redhead answered. "It helps me focus."
Her mind went back to that image of Izuku in her vision. The one that had nine bright burning lights in his body and not the dim green one like there was here. It was just so confusing. Why was he so much like All Might in that vision? It led her to believe there was a much deeper connection between the two of them than just trainer and trainee. Now however was not the time to ask, she figured. She had practically just met Izuku.
"Meditation?" Izuku grew curious. "Does that really help?"
"For me it does. Well…sometimes." Camilla shrugged. "My power is very mental based. So my mind needs to be very thoroughly trained and disciplined in order to use it the best I can."
It made perfect sense in Izuku's head. A telekinetic quirk like hers obviously need a lot of mental awareness in order to use it properly. Not to mention the other factor of using her quirk to see to a limited degree. He could only imagine just how much she had trained in order to get it as refined as it is now. He had a long way to go before he would be anywhere near her level. First things first though, was to inherit One For All. That was still a good nine months away. But he could do it. All Might believed in him so he had to live up to those expectations.
"That's incredible. I wonder if I should try that sometime."
He brought his notebook out from his backpack and began to write down a few more notes on it.
"Couldn't hurt." Camilla shrugged. "Meditation doesn't just help the mind but relaxes the body too."
"I'll see if I can work it in. I'm already on a strict training regimen so I need to know where I can make-URK!"
"OOPH!"
Both teens grunted and regained their balance after a moment. Something had passed between them. When Izuku was standing up straight, he noticed his notebook was no longer in his hands. He looked back to the ground thinking whatever hit him and Camilla caused him to drop it.
"Deku."
The angry sounding voice caused both teenagers to stop moving. First they glanced at each other before they turned their attention to in front of them. Much to Izuku's chagrin and Camilla's annoyance, there stood Katsuki Bakugo again. And it looks like this time he brought a couple friends with him. At least what someone like this would consider friends. As Izuku looked on he saw the angry look of his ex friend drilling right through him and his two flunkies behind him looking all smug and smirking as if they knew what was coming and they were going to enjoy it. They had before. In Katsuki's hand he waved about the notebook that he specifically remembered burning a while ago.
"What the hell do you think you're doing with this, ya damn nerd?"
"K-Kacchan! I…I was just-"
"I thought I made myself clear, you useless extra." Katsuki was growling. "Your quirkless ass is not going to go anywhere with this pointless dream."
"Yeah, Midoriya! Why don't you just give it up already?" The winged boy taunted.
"We already know someone like you will be nothing! Accept it!" The other one extended out his fingers as if to taunt him.
"Hey!"
The three boys in front of them stopped and turned to Camilla as she glared at them behind her sunglasses.
"This is the second time you've intentionally shoved us out of your way. What's your problem? And what has Izuku ever done to you to warrant this kind of treatment?"
Camilla was really starting to not like this guy. The unending rage and resentment she could feel coming off him was concerning to say the least. It was like being a jerk was what he thrived for.
"Awww looky here. Midoriya's girlfriend has to do all the talking for him because he's so weak! That's hilarious!" The winged boy cackled.
The other boy with the long fingers started laughing as well while Bakugo only smirked.
"Since you clearly don't know who I am, extra, then let me tell you right here. The name's Katsuki Bakugo. And I'm gonna be the next number one hero! Better than All Might ever was! So you stay the hell out of my way! You and this worthless Deku here are nothing but stepping stones on my path!"
Izuku was sure after the sludge villain incident that Katsuki had calmed down a bit. Apparently not. He must have overheard him in class when he was mumbling about Camilla going out for U.A. same as him and now he was issuing her a warning. The Jedi didn't take it. Instead she only grew ever more annoyed and quite honestly, a bit angry at how full of himself this boy seemed to be. It was one thing to be confident in one 's self but this kind of behavior was something else entirely.
"Am I supposed to be convinced just because you yell at me?"
The flat tone caused Katsuki's smirk to falter a bit as Camilla talked to him again.
"You're loud. That's all your first impression seems to be telling me. Quite frankly I don't see anything impressive in front of me."
Only Izuku knew how true that last sentence was. And he couldn't believe she was actually saying it to Katsuki. The blonde boy a few steps away was seething in place while the other two behind him cautiously backed away. It wasn't often someone actually stood up to Bakugo but it seemed today was not a very normal day.
"What the hell did you just say to me?" Katsuki growled. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't put you in the dirt right now."
"Come on, Bakugo! Just do it!"
"Yeah take her down! She doesn't go to our school! You won't get in trouble!"
Sighing, Camilla had a pretty good idea that this Katsuki wasn't going to leave her alone so easily. She could also feel Izuku was frightened at the moment. So making this quick was essential. There weren't any people around at the moment but it probably wouldn't stay that way for long.
"You're more than welcome to try." Camilla offered. "But first…"
Swiftly, she rose up her arm and held out a hand in Katsuki's direction. Before the explosion user could register what was even happening, Izuku's notebook yanked out of his hand and floated in place in front of his face.
"So you can float shit." Bakugo did not sound impressed in the slightest. "Is that supposed to-"
*WHACK! WHACK!*
Two quick flicks of Camilla's wrist made the notebook smack Katsuki across both his cheeks before the Force called it back over into her waiting hand.
"It's not nice to take things that don't belong to you."
She held out the notebook for Izuku to take back. The green haired boy however just stood there staring at Camilla, mortified that anyone would even think about striking him like that. The idea of anyone trying to fight Katsuki seemed so alien to him. As he took the notebook back into his trembling hands, the familiar smell of smoke is what dared him to look over at his former best friend's face. He was seething before. Now he was downright an inferno of rage. Both of his palms were sparking with miniature explosions as he worked to make his hands hotter. The more sweat he could produce, the better he could put this girl in her place.
"I was going to just incinerate that notebook and leave it at that. But that little stunt of yours just put the signature on your death warrant."
So this was going to be a fight was it? Fine then. Camilla could do with a little workout. Taking a bully down a peg was something she always loved doing back on Corsucant. Why not do it here? Sighing, she took off the white hoodie Nejire lent her and held it out for Izuku. When the boy took it with his hands still trembling, she stepped forward and called upon her Force vision again. Katsuki was in front of her, crouched down and ready to lunge. The other two behind her also looked like they were ready to fight as Katsuki's backup. First they had to go.
"The two of you don't want any part of this."
Neither Izuku or Katsuki could tell who she was even talking to when she said that.
"Uuuhhh….the two of us don't want any part of this."
Now confused beyond all hell, Katsuki turned around and saw his two flunkies start to back away as if they were afraid and unsure. That wasn't like them. Why was Wings over there saying he didn't want to be part of this?
"You want to go home now and reevaluate your life choices."
"We want to go home now and reevaluate our life choices."
Then they just ran. And the two of them ran until they were out of sight around the corner. That was definitely note like them. They were useless in a fight sure but they always stuck around to watch Katsuki work. Why were they running now? Were they really that scared of a girl? No. This was something else. They mirrored exactly what that redheaded bitch had just said to them and they immediately complied. That wasn't intimidation. That was something else.
"Your quirk is moving shit around." He snarled at Camilla. "What the hell did you do?!"
The same hand Camilla just waved to perform her mind trick moved to her belt and took hold of her lightsaber.
"I'll tell you that after I knock you down to the ground, Kacchan."
That was it. The final bit of Katsuki's fuse had dwindled down with the mention of his nickname again from this bitch. He dropped his backpack and rushed forward to throw a wide right strike at Camilla.
"DIE!"
Izuku was a good distance away now not wanting to be anywhere near this but he had his eyes on what was happening before him. Katsuki swiped right to hit Camilla but she ducked out of the way of his arm and the explosion that blasted out of his palm. She jumped back a bit away from him and he moved to strike at her again.
*PSSSSHHHHHEEEWWW!*
That loud sound distracted him enough while Camilla moved first. With that red piece of metal now sporting a weird green blade sticking out of it, Katsuki jumped back and dodged when the girl wielding it swung downwards and grazed the ground right in front of where his feet just were. Looking at the pavement, Katsuki saw the rod, whatever it was, had apparently scorched the sidewalk leaving behind a burn mark. So this girl could move things with her mind, make people do things against their will, and now there was a weird glowing sword that was apparently string enough to cut through solid concrete.
Camilla moved in a burst of speed neither boy watching saw coming and was right in front of Katsuki again before he could register it. The explosion maker was then thrown off his feet when the girl swept at his legs with her own and caused him to fall flat on his back. When he moved to get back up, he suddenly found himself unable to move his arms and legs. No matter how hard he tried, he was as stiff as a wooden board. Looking up, he easily figured out it was the girl's doing when he saw her holding her open hand out to him. He thought about setting off an explosion but with his palms up against his legs, all he would do is hurt himself if he tried to use his quirk now.
From behind a nearby tree, Izuku felt like his entire world was once again being flipped over into an aspect that felt so foreign to him. Katsuki was in a fight and…he was losing? He had spent so many years putting the blonde boy on a pedestal similar to the way he had All Might on one and now, here he was on the ground unable to move. Then there was Camilla. Izuku figured her quirk, whatever it was, had to be a strong one. But what all was she doing here? First she made the other two of Katsuki's friends run away with no effort. Did she hypnotize them? And what is that green glow stick in her hand? What was it powered by? What else could it cut through if it scorched the sidewalk? Why was she holding it up like she was about to run Katsuki through with it?
Wait. What?
After a quick double take, Izuku did clearly see that Camilla had the grip on her weapon ready to bring it down and send it right through Katsuki's body. The explosion boy noticed this too and tried to squirm to get away but this grip he was caught in was too strong.
"Camilla! Wait! Don't!"
Izuku was too late. The redhead swung her arm and crouched down at the same time and stabbed her green colored blade down. Katsuki braced for death, but instead his ears registered the sound of that thing stabbing through something else that wasn't his flesh. Looking over to the left, he saw the blade had sunk nearly all the way into the sidewalk mere inches away from where his head was. He could hear a distinct humming sound come from it and now he was feeling the knee of the girl who just humiliated him press into his chest. As she glared down at him, Camilla was certain now was a good time to ensure that this kid didn't bother Izuku or her again.
"I'm gonna make myself very clear here, Katsuki. First off, my name isn't 'extra'. It's Camilla. Camilla Sharro. Remember it. Secondly; Izuku's path isn't yours to determine. It's his and no one else's. You claim you wanna be the next number one hero? With this attitude you have now I don't see that happening. You let your anger overpower you here. That's why beating you was so easy."
Katsuki could be heard struggling still, trying to break free of her telekinetic grip. Who the hell did this bitch think she was talking to him like that? She was nothing!
"You…..bitch! I'll kill you!"
"You'll do nothing."
His threats weren't working on her. All Katsuki got as a response other than those words was the grip he was in tightening, almost crushing him.
"From this moment on you will leave both me and Izuku alone until we are all at U.A. together. And trust me. That is going to happen no matter how much you want to deny it. If you don't, well then…"
*Ssshhhhhhhhp!*
The green blade retracted back into the hilt in Camilla's grasp and she returned it to the clip on her belt. Where the blade was impaled in the sidewalk, now all that remained was a smoldering hole in the shape of it. Now with one hand free, she pulled off her sunglasses and made sure her eyes were visible to Katsuki. The moment he saw them, the spiky haired blonde ceased all thought in his head to focus on one.
The girl who just leveled him was blind.
"I'm sure everyone you know would be thrilled to hear that the 'future number one hero' got laid flat on the ground by someone like me."
Being threatened was not a feeling Katsuki was used to. Usually he was the one doing the threatening to idiots or pebbles who didn't know their place like Deku. Being in this position and this girl being in the one he was normally in only made him angrier. His heavy breathing accompanying by his growling made that very obvious to the girl pinning him with her knee and her mental quirk. Rather than wait for him to answer, Camilla got up and took a few steps back before pushing Katsuki away with the Force and setting him back upright on his feet. When Katsuki was released and he felt full mobility of his body return to him, he wanted nothing more than to charge this bitch and punish her. Punish her for making him look like an idiot in front of Deku. For thinking she had a right to talk like that to her.
Looking past her however, he saw more of his classmates begin to come into view from around the corner. Getting into a fight now with more than one bystander now was just asking for trouble. Especially if anyone else saw that she was blind. It didn't matter if Camilla overpowered him or not, his other classmates were morons. All they would see was him firing off explosions at a blind girl and that story would twist out of context fast. With a grunt, he swiped his backpack off the ground and swung it around his body again while aiming a glare at the girl.
"Fine." He snarled at her. "You wanna finish this at U.A.? That works for me. Showing that school I'm better than you will be much more satisfying. So I'll leave you alone. But do yourself a favor and drop that worthless nerd behind you. He's nothing but dead weight and he doesn't belong anywhere, let alone U.A."
Considering this encounter over, Katsuki turned his back and walked away. He had better things to do like nurse his bruised ego. While he walked, Camilla huffed and put her sunglasses back on and thought the small fight over. She certainly didn't wake up this morning with the intent to get into a fight with anyone, especially after her caretakers drilled it into her that she wasn't supposed to use her power to cause harm. A part of her felt guilty for going against it, but that feeling went away the moment she put it more in the category of warding off a group of bullies who were picking her friend.
Her friend?
Recalling the reason she started fighting, she turned back to Izuku. While she couldn't see his face she could sense the emotions coming off him and could fathom a guess at what it currently looked like. She guessed right. Izuku's eyes were wider than dinner plates and his jaw was dropped down so far it was practically hitting the floor. His gaze was locked right onto Camilla as the show she just put on had him more than ready to open up his notebook and begin scribbling down.
"Izuku? You still with me?"
Shaking his head, Izuku finally seemed to snap out of it and came out from behind the tree.
"Um…..I have questions."
Camilla giggled, expecting that to happen. Izuku held out the hoodie in his hands and the young Jedi took it back and threw it on. Hands free, Izuku took his notebook and flipped it open with a pen ready and waiting.
"Before you and Kacchan fought, the other two. What did you do? I thought you could only move things with your mind and your weird vision."
"I just said those are things I can do. I never said it was all I could do."
The floodgates were open now. There was no stopping it. She had to play it off like it was a quirk in this world until circumstances said otherwise.
"The name of my quirk, Izuku, is Forceful Mind."
The rest of the way back to Izuku's home, Camilla was listing off all the different things the Force allowed her to do under the guise of the Forceful Mind quirk Ryukyu and Tsukauchi came up with. As she spoke, Izuku was writing nearly as fast as the words came out of the girl's mouth. If one was looking closely, they would have sworn a bit of smoke was coming off the tip of that pen from friction burn alone. It made Camilla happy that he was able to forget about that bully from before so quickly. But it was concerning just how deep a hole he seemed to be falling into as he began mumbling again.
"This is all so incredible." Izuku gawked. "Your one quirk allows you to access so many different mental abilities at once. That's just….no. Incredible isn't the word."
"Slow down there, Izuku." She rested a hand on the green haired boy's shoulder. "It's nice you like my power but don't go crazy over it."
Feeling the touch of a girl's hand on his shoulder was indeed enough to make Izuku tear his gaze away from the book and to the hand itself. Blushing madly again, he closed the book and stood back up straight trying to regain some composure.
"Heh…heheh…sorry. I'm just kind of a nerd when it comes to quirks." Izuku admitted as he held up the notebook. "This is the thirteenth book I'm on when it comes to the notes I've taken on the ones I've seen."
Camilla recalled how thick that book felt in her hand when she pulled it from Katsuki's grip into her own. Those were a lot of pages in that book alone. And this was his thirteenth one?
"That's…impressive." It was the first word that came to her mind. "You must really have an eye for this kind of thing if you've written down that much."
Still blushing, Izuku wasn't sure what to say next to that. Usually he didn't receive compliments on his notes. His thoughts however were interrupted when an odd tone rang out from Camilla's belt. Reaching into one of the pouches, she fished out her communicator and pressed the button down.
"Yes?"
"Camilla its Ryukyu. Are you with that Izuku boy right now?"
The blush was gone and surprise filled Izuku's face once more as he heard the number nine hero refer to him by his name.
"Yeah he's right here." Camilla replied.
"May I speak with him please?"
Neither teen had any clue as to why she wanted to speak with him. But Camilla held out her communicator for Izuku anyway.
"Hold down the middle button to speak. Let it go when you're done."
Shrugging, he took the thing into his hand. So it was like a walkie talkie or a police radio. He held it up to his mouth and had a few false starts when realizing he was about to talk to Ryukyu.
"Um….th-this is Izuku, ma'am."
A moment later, her voice came back.
"Hello there, Izuku. Sorry to do this but I have a favor to ask of you if that's alright."
A favor? What favor could the number nine hero have for a boy she's never met before? Holding the button down, Izuku asked.
"Sure…..um….what favor?"
"I'm gonna be taking longer to get back to my building tonight. A little incident out in the ocean. If it's not too much of an imposition, would it be OK if Camilla stayed with you at your house until I come and get her?"
That was it? She just wanted to Camilla to spend a bit more time with him until she was done? OK. That was easy enough. He hadn't had a friend over for dinner in years. Maybe it could be nice. Just him, Camilla and his mo-
Suddenly the idea of bringing a girl home where his mother would see made Izuku very nervous. Not that his mom was disapproving or anything. But he feared his ears would be in for a lot of ringing tonight after his mother saw him walk in with a girl beside him.
"Um….s-sure. I can do that." He replied to Ryukyu. "I'll just call my mom and let her know."
"Thank you so much, Izuku. Oh by the way. What's your last name? I don't think I ever got it."
"Oh. It's Midoriya, ma'am. Izuku Midoriya."
"Right then. Thank you again, Midoriya. When I'm done I'll call and ask for your address."
"OK then. Bye."
With the conversation over, Izuku handed the communicator back to Camilla and she put it away.
"Huh. I wonder what Ryukyu is up to that's keeping her." She said to the boy.
"Well, I guess you'll find out when she gets done with it. Whatever it is." Izuku replied. "Now come on. We're not far from my house."
As they kept walking, Izuku fished out his phone and called up his mother, Inko. Better to get this out of the way now on a speaker he could move away from his face.
"Hey Mom. Yeah I'm on my way home. Listen would it be alright if someone joined us for dinner tonight?...Who?...Oh she's a new friend."
He saw it coming. Izuku knew it was coming. But his reaction time was way too slow to save his ear from the joyous squeal that rang out of the phone and into his poor ear. As he yanked the phone as far away from his head as his arm would allow, both he and Camilla could still hear the sound of his mother yelling in delight at the words Izuku just spoke to her. The young Jedi had a soft smile on her own face as she let out a few giggles at the interaction. Izuku just cautiously put the phone back to his ear trying to rein her mother in.
"Mom! Mom! Calm down, Mom! Calm down! She's just a friend!...yes…..a couple days ago….yes she's…..I'm not answering that Mom…..She's right in front of me! That's why! Just….can she stay for dinner? Her…her guardian asked if she could come over and hang out until she was off work."
It wasn't a lie by any means. The who of it and what of the work just didn't need to be specified.
"Alright….alright I'll see you in a few minutes. OK. Bye."
Sighing, he hung up the phone and let it fall back into his pocket.
"It's settled. She's setting another place at the table for you as we speak." He sounded exhausted just from that call alone. "Just….be prepared."
"For….what?" Camilla was cautious to ask.
"You'll see."
While that was happening, back out in the ocean on a boat, Ryukyu was just putting the other communicator away as the owner of that boat, the Sea Rescue Hero: Selkie, came out onto the deck and joined her.
"So you wanna tell me now why you had to borrow me and my boat to come out here? And why we had to bring a crane barge?"
The walking seal pointed behind him to the barge with the crane mounted on it that was slowly tailing his boat; The Oki Mariner.
"Because there's something that fell into the ocean a few days ago that needs to come out. I put off getting it out of here for too long." Ryukyu answered.
"Well are you gonna tell me what it is?" Selkie asked.
"To be honest with you, Selkie, I'm not sure what it is. But it could potentially be leaking something harmful into the water and the quicker we get it out, the better."
Selkie wanted to press more. He really did. Being kept in the dark was not something he was fond of but he trusted Ryukyu. If she didn't know what it was then what more could he ask out of her?
"Alright? So where exactly did this thing fall?" He asked the dragoon hero.
"We should be nearing its impact point now. Try diving under and seeing if you can get a read on anything."
"You got it."
Without another word, Selkie dived overboard and started to descend down into the ocean. As she looked down to the surface of the water, Ryukyu frowned. Selkie was a trusted ally and she didn't like keeping things from him when they worked together. But how was she supposed to tell him he was searching for the hyperdrive portion of a spaceship that belongs to an alien she's harboring at her building? She couldn't. Simple as that. She was hoping she wouldn't have to ask for his help to be honest but with how deep the ocean was here, she needed someone with a quirk that could utilize echolocation. Selkie fit that bill.
Thankfully, she didn't have to wait long until Selkie resurfaced again and jumped back onto the boat.
"There's something down there alright." He told her. "I don't know what it is but its metal, round, and from what I could make out, it looked like a weird ring shaped contraption."
Ryukyu didn't need to hear another word. That was it. It had to be.
"Let's get the crane in. The sooner we get it out, the better."
Selkie agreed and went back inside to radio the barge to get into position. While he did that, Ryukyu thought back to Camilla. She didn't need to call the Midoriya boy to ask him to have Camilla over at his house. She knew very well Camilla could handle herself on her own. But getting acclimated into this world was going to be tough to do on her own.
Maybe doing it with a friend by her side would make the process smoother.
A/N
So I completely forgot that Edgeshot was the number five hero before Mirko was. So yeah I gotta go back and change that. Woops.
Also I apologize if it feels this is going a little slow. I promise the good stuff is on the way. Until then, see ya!
