In the palace on Hyrule, Zelda and the group of heroes she gathered from Olympia appeared in a flash of light near the shrine where Zelda had gotten the statue of the Cosmic Owl.
"Welcome to Hyrule." Said Zelda as she turned to face the heroes.
"So where are we right now?" Asked Ling.
"Right now we are in one of the lower chambers of my family's castle. I'll show you around a little and then I'll take you to see Link." Said Zelda.
"Sounds good to me." Said Finn.
Zelda placed statue on the shrine and lead the heroes out of the room to give them a quick tour of the palace.
A few miles away from the palace, there was an average size village. Near the outskirts of the village was a farm and on that farm lived Link. Link was fair skinned, with blond hair, green eyes, and pointy ears. He wore brown pants, a green tunic over a brown long sleeved shirt, and brown boots. Link once wore a green cap, but he decided to stop wearing it since it reminded him of his hero days. The former hero was outside his home chopping wood with an ax and was thinking about going into town to hang with the villagers. It was a normal thing to do and Link desired to have a normal life and not think about being a hero.
A few years back Link had once committed many heroic deeds in Hyrule like all the other previous heroes before him. Ganondorf may have been banished, but that didn't mean there wasn't still evil in Hyrule. Link dealt with wicked witches, ghost, monsters, and bandits, all of whom had either been destroyed or chased out of the kingdom. When Link had just about defeated all the evil there was to offer on his world, he decided to turn his attention to other worlds and help them out. Using a magic item from Princess Zelda, he first teleported to YGGDRASIL and met Ainz. The skeletal ruler didn't have much to offer Link in terms of evil creatures, but he did show him to Dead World 4444 and the Tower of Barbs. It was there that Link met Uncle Death, who let Link fight various undead monsters and the spirits of past evil minions of Ganondorf. Link defeated them and gained Uncle Death's respect with his fighting skills. The hero then decided to go to go to a planet called Zorg to see what he could do. Zorg was a much more advanced planet then any that Link had seen, it was also home to many corrupt people. The planet was going through both an environmental and economic crisis. Resources were dwindling and the people in power were doing nothing about it except hog what they could get to themselves. Link tried to help the masses, but for every problem he did solve a dozen more would pop up. He tried to band the people together, but they ended up not trusting each and betraying one another on several occasions. Finally a good precent of the people revolted and attacked the people in power overthrowing them and then a few crafty and greedy people took over and established a cruel dictatorship. At this point Link was completely shocked by this and he decided to just give up and head back to Hyrule. The actions he had witnessed had truly shaken him to his very core and made him lose faith in the goodness of others. Link's actions had done no good and he decided to quit being a hero. He returned to Hyrule and gave the Master Sword to Zelda saying he was done with being a hero before going to his farm home to live a normal peaceful life. Zelda was shocked at this, but she decided to leave Link alone and let him have his space.
Months went by peacefully and nothing serious happened and then the Hunters showed up and began robing and looting over Hyrule. People were frightened and the local guards were unable to catch the Hunters. Link had gotten messages from Zelda asking for assistance with the Hunters, but Link refused and replied he was no longer a hero.
In the present Link finished chopping wood and decided to head into village to hear the local news and spend some time with friends. Link grabbed a horse and set out for the village.
A few miles away in some woods a small imp like creature was floating through the shadowy folds of a dense forest. The imp was female and her name was Midna. Midna had pale white skin, with black skin covering her rear, left leg, arms, chest, upper parts of her head, and ears. There was also strange blue tribal marking on her skin. Midna wore a stone mask with horns that covered most of her face and her left eye. Her other eye was red and she had long yellow orange hair with a barrette near the end of it.
Midna was no ordinary imp, she had once been a beautiful princess and the ruler of a place called the Twilight Realm. A place that was a perpetual mix of light and shadow that went on forever. The former princess used to be a Twili and her people's ancestors had once been a mighty tribe of sorcerers, who tried to conquer Hyrule long ago, but were defeated and banished to the Twilight Realm. The sorcerers evolved and changed into the Twili. The Twili lived long peaceful lives producing child, establishing a royal family to rule over them, and abandoned all thoughts and ides of revenge and conquest. There was however one Twili who desired revenge and conquest and that was a Twili named Zant.
Zant was a distant relative that worked as an advisor to the royal family who openly expressed his thoughts and feelings of the past and what he desired for the Twili. He was also in line to become the next ruler of Twilight Realm. The royal elders were weary of Zant and his extreme ideals believing that they would lead the Twili to ruin. When the time came to appoint a new ruler, Midna was chosen. Zant was outraged by this and vowed that Midna and the others would pay for denying him the position he rightly deserved. A few weeks after Midna was made into the new ruler of the Twilight Realm, Zant resurfaced and began to display some incredible new dark magical powers. Zant started turning the Twili into savage dark Shadow Beast that obeyed him, he then marched into the palace had the elders killed, and confronted Midna. The evil Twili used his powers to turn Midna into an imp and then he declared himself king. Midna could only helplessly watch as everything was taken from her and Zant cruelly taunted and tortured her. After some time Zant seemed to lose interest in Midna and she managed to escape the palace.
Midna roamed the outskirts of the realm, until she came across the mask she now wore. She recognized it as a part of an ancient magical item of her ancestors. The Fused Shadow. According to history the Fused Shadow was a item of great power that was split into four pieces. Once the pieces were back together they would bestow great power onto the user. This gave Midna the idea to search for the other pieces and use their power to beat Zant. But according to history the rest of the pieces were in Hyrule a place Midna could not get to. It seemed that Midna's quest had already ended, but she refused to give up. She wanted revenge on Zant and her people needed her. Midna began searching for a way out, until she came across a strange abandoned temple and went inside it. She came across a strange round stone with red markings on it and when she touched it, the symbols began to glow and swirl and a portal opened up. Curious as to what it was, Midna entered it and then she found herself in what appeared to be the same temple, but something felt different. Midna flew outside and saw that the sky was different and for the first time, she saw the sun setting.
"I made...it to the other world." Said Midna stunned.
She saw the sunset and decided to head out and explore. Midna had no idea how she was going to find the other pieces of the fused shadow, but she was determined to find them. After some traveling she decided to take a rest in some woods. The sun started to rise up and some beams began to pierce the foliage. Midna saw a few sunbeams and became curious. She stuck her hand out into the beams and immediately felt a strange burning sensation that made her yank her hand back. Apparently the light could hurt a Twili. Midna used her powers to sink into the shadow of a tree and wait for it to grow dark so she could travel. Soon the sunset and Midna continued on with her quest. She was a soul with a purpose, but she was lost in this strange new world.
At Hyrule, Zelda had just finished giving the heroes a tour of the castle and was showing them the chamber where the Master Sword was kept. Finn and Ling admired the sword, while Zelda had some guards fetch a carriage to transport her and the others to the village Link lived. The carriage was soon ready and the group set out to meet Link.
To be continued.
