Here it is, the final chapter of Blake's backstory. What will we see here? It must be hard for them to go through, but we have to see it. This is the climax, after all. Sad to say.

We've got a decent amount of votes in the Pokemon Academy Best Girl Semi-Finals! The current lead runners in the polls may surprise you! The shakeup really makes me realize how a girl may be in many people's top 5, but not necessarily in their top 3. So I'm certainly feeling more than a little surprised Looks like the girl I'm pulling for isn't going to win, but that's fine. They're all wonderful girls! There have still only been a few votes, I'm sure there are more of you that want to vote! If you want your best girls to make it to the final round and beyond, then make sure to get your votes in! You have 3 votes, make them count!

Semi-Finalists: Cynthia, Ayame, Sango, Kate, Marion, Alcea

Rosealine gold: The arc is almost over, don't worry.

Aquahaze675: They aren't related by blood, so it's not a problem.

Tambry96bj: She's a little too dangerous to release into the wild.

Mercury – Mercuraneous: Not talking about RWBY, just a made up thing, don't worry. And we'll see how Gwen got to where she was in this chapter, it should be interesting at least.

Thunder Fire: I came up with all of them. And it was inevitable because Gwen likes him and doesn't understand that siblings aren't supposed to do stuff like that. Also we already know Ayame wasn't Blake's first kiss.

Pokemon Academy: Beginning of Beginnings

Chapter 284

Gwen did not understand what was going on.

Ever since her mother got injured, the normal life she had grown accustomed to had changed drastically. She had been plagued with headaches for reasons that she didn't understand, and fits of bad dreams that had seen her wake to her room being torn apart through unknown means. It was when one of the servants touched her, causing her to lash out in a panic that resulted in the man flying across the room, that she realized something was wrong with her.

Her father had spoken with her the next day.

Gwen's father never took the time to get to know her. And after the incident with her mother, he had never spoken a word to her. But he had sat her down in her home office, and for the first time they had a conversation.

They talked about all sorts of things. Gwen's pokemon, her mother, and the power that she, her mother, and her brother shared.

So there IS something wrong with me.

All of her life, Gwen had been bullied by those around her for being… odd. She knew that there was something wrong with her. The doctors had told her, and her mother had explained. She didn't understand things that came so easily to other girls, she didn't feel things the way the other girls did. There was something wrong with her brain. She adapted as well she could, but it was all so very hard for her.

And now this.

This was something even more different.

It made sense now. How her pokemon were the only ones that she could truly understand. But it came at a cost, as he had explained to her. She could feel herself losing control of this power, whatever it was. Her father had talked to her. He was sending her to get help. Her mother had helped her brother. Taught him to control his abilities. But she wasn't here now. And her brother didn't know how to guide her the way their mother had.

So her father was sending her to see doctors. He said that they would teach her how to control her powers. She had said nothing, but was still grateful. She had hurt the servant when she pushed him away. What if she hurt her brother? No. That wouldn't happen. She wouldn't let him get hurt. She would protect him. He had tried to protect her against that Salamence. He wanted them to be together, and so did she. Every time she thought of him, her heart beat in her chest. She knew from her books and shows that that was love. But how could they be together if she risked hurting him just by being around him? They couldn't. So she would learn how to control this power. And then they could be together, forever, just as they wanted.

The very next day, Gwen and her pokemon were taken to a place known as Anja Karzat.

"So this is Guinevere?" The man standing in front of her had white hair and cold green eyes devoid of emotion. Standing at his side was a woman with hair the color of the sky. Gwen ignored his words, they were meant for her father.

"Where is Anja Karzat?" Richard asked. "I had assumed to speak with her."

"The doctor is handling other matters," the man replied. "Don't worry. I will take a special interest in your daughter's treatment."

"And you will keep this matter private," Richard insisted. "No one is to know that she is here. If word of this got out…"

"You can count on our secrecy," the man assured Gwen's father. "No one will know that she is here, I assure you. It wouldn't do to have rumors go around that the Harker's daughter is some sort of freak. No, it will be better for all of us this way."

"Indeed," Richard agreed. "I'll make a story that she's going overseas to stay in a medical facility of some sort for treatment for an illness, not… here."

"That will work best, I agree," the man said. He was smiling. So he must be happy, right? Gwen knew full well that people who smiled were kind. Her mother was kind, her father was not. This man smiled. He was kind.

"Guinevere, I have to go now," Richard said, turning to Gwen. He reached out to her, but paused, retracting his hand. Gwen studied his face. There were tears in his eyes, but why, she didn't understand. There was no reason to cry that she could think of.

"Guinevere, you be good, okay?"

"I don't understand," Gwen said. He told her to be good, but she didn't understand what he meant by that. "What do I do?"

Richard glanced at the white-haired man.

"I've explained to you about her condition, haven't I?"

"Yes, indeed," the man nodded. "It shouldn't be a problem. We have experience teaching problem children."

"She isn't… she isn't a problem," Richard snapped, looking down at Gwen. "She's just… difficult, that's all."

"I see."

Richard looked at Gwen one final time, turned, and walked towards the exit.

The white-haired man turned to Gwen and held out a hand to her.

"Come."

Gwen stood silent.

The man reached out and grabbed her by the wrist. She hated it. The feeling of someone touching her was disgusting. She lashed out, trying desperately to break his grip.

"Stop it! Don't touch me!" She shouted, swinging her other hand frantically at him. Her eyes flashed blue and she began to glow, when suddenly she felt a sharp, painful pinch in her neck. Her body began to grow numb, and darkness began to creep into the corners of her eyes as the world fell out from under her. The last sight she saw before losing consciousness was the blue-haired woman standing over her, a syringe in her hand.

Gwen woke up in a room devoid of color. White walls, white floor, a white ceiling. Even the sheets on her bed were white.

She sat in bed for a while. There wasn't anything she really needed to do.

"Uni, Lancelot," Gwen released her pokemon from their pokeballs. She watched them play with each other for a while. Things were very peaceful in this place. She remembered the incident earlier in the hallway, but she didn't pay it any mind. A few hours later, the blue-haired woman walked into the room with a tray of food. She presented it to Gwen, who devoured the food with no mind to manners. She never understood the need for manners anyway.

"Guinevere. When you are done eating you will come with me. We require your presence for your first examination of your harmonia abilities," the woman told the young girl.

Gwen nodded. This woman seemed to be able to speak in a way where she could understand what was being said.

"I understand," Gwen said.

"It is also necessary for you to bring one of your pokemon with you to the examination room," the woman continued. "You may bring either your Ralts or your Solosis to the examination room. To test your harmonia the presence of a pokemon is needed."

Gwen nodded again. She reached down and lifted up her scarred Ralts. The woman escorted her down the hallway.

Gwen had experienced pain before. When she was a child, she once skinned her knee when she slipped climbing up the stairs. She had also jammed her finger in the door on more than one occasion. The worst pain had come when she placed her finger on the stove in order to get a better feeling of what the sensation of a "burn" was like. It had not been pleasant. The most recent pain in her life were the chronic headaches that she'd been experiencing since her last birthday.

What went on in that room eclipsed them all. She was in agony, a pain so intense it was indescribable. The night, she was taken to her room, where she curled up hugging Lancelot and Uni, crying into her pillow. She wanted to go back home, back to her big brother.

Why? Why was this happening to her? She didn't understand. Why did she have to go through all this pain and misery?

"Big brother… I want to go home… I don't like it here, please come get me…" she sobbed, trembling in fear and agony.

That night, Gwen had a strange dream. Gwen didn't often dream. When she did, they were flashes of memory, not anything new.

But this was new.

Gwen sat in a wide, extravagant garden, waterways working through it, cascading from falls and hills that were covered in flowers and apple trees. If Gwen was one for awe, she would be awed. But the scenic views of Couriway Town had meant nothing to her, and this garden was completely the same. Just… another place.

"Well now, if there isn't a guest in my garden. Now this is quite a rarity."

Somehow, Gwen knew that this voice was calling to her. Curious as to how she could know this, she turned toward the direction it had come from. There was a man standing before her, wrapped in white robes. He had hair of a dark brown, like her father, but when she saw his face, she felt… kindness. How odd. She had never felt that before. She felt feelings from another person, when was the last time she felt like that?

"Who are you?" Gwen asked.

"My name is Alexander Shaw, you can call me Shaw," the older man said, walking past her and staring down into the water. He turned to her and raised a hand, gesturing towards her, and somehow Gwen knew he wanted her to come. So she did. Was this what dreaming was?

"And who are you?" He asked.

"Guinevere Harker," Gwen answered him.

"So what are you doing in my garden, Miss Guinevere Harker?" He asked, kneeling down beside the river and running his fingers through the water.

"I… I don't know," Gwen replied, looking around. "I don't understand. I went to sleep, and now I am here."

"This is a dream," he replied, glancing up at the girl. "My dream. And your dream as well, somehow. Perhaps you are a special child, Miss Guinevere."

"Are you… like me?" Gwen asked. "Do you have…"

"At one time," the man murmured. Gwen could tell that he was sad. She could feel it from him, the regret in his voice.

"…How do I control it?" Gwen asked. "I need to control it."

"For what reason?" Shaw asked, glancing back to the water.

"I need to be stronger, I need to control it. If I can control it, then I can be with my big brother again, I can take care of him and we can be together."

"You're quite young," Shaw said. "What happened?"

"I don't understand," Gwen said, shaking her head. "What do you mean?"

"When did your harmonia first develop?" Shaw clarified. "It's rare to see it happen in one so young."

Gwen explained to him what had happened. She didn't quite know why did it. But she trusted him. He felt like he understood her, and she understood that he was being kind to her, trying to help her. If she told him everything, then maybe he could show her what to do. So she told him the whole story, about her mother, the Salamence, everything that had happened before and afterwards, and about how she was afraid her abilities would cause her to hurt her brother.

Alexander Shaw listened to her story in silence.

"You're right," he finally replied to her. "You do need training to control your powers. Your brother, he is weak. Too weak to help you. You need to protect him yourself."

She felt relieved. He understood!

"The problem is your family."

Gwen blinked. She was confused.

"I don't understand," Gwen shook her head.

"From what you told me, it seems that your harmonia drove that Salamence to madness," the man replied. You said you felt a headache? And the dragon was glowing blue?"

Gwen nodded.

"Then that means you caused that to happen," he said softly. "Your father probably feels the same way. That's why he sent you to Anja Karzat, after all."

"I don't-"

"You hurt your mother," Shaw said. She could tell that he was angry, even though the changes in the voices of others were so often a mystery to her. She felt worry, an unusual feeling.

"I did?" Gwen gasped.

"That power of yours is a gift. But when you use it without control, you hurt those around you, like you hurt your mother. That's why your father locked you away in Anja Karzat. Most likely, he hates you for what you've done."

"It… it is?" Gwen felt small. Her father hated her? No, that couldn't be…

"I can't imagine that anyone would want a daughter who tried to kill her mother," Shaw said. "If you want to go back, then you'll need to control those powers of yours. When you've mastered your harmonia, then everything will be fine. You'll be able to be with your family. With your brother. Your pokemon will grow stronger and be happy. But to do all that… you need to be strong."

Gwen nodded her head slowly. She knew what it meant to be strong. Whenever she connected with Lancelot, she could feel it. The urge to be strong. To never feel so weak and helpless, never again. It was a different feeling than that she felt when she connected with Uni.

"Our time is running short," Shaw murmured. His voice sounded sad. "But don't worry little girl. We'll see each other again."

Gwen awoke from her sleep in a daze. She didn't quite remember what she'd dreamt of, she never did. But she felt it in her gut. A desire to be stronger, a desire she and Lancelot shared. She needed to master her powers. She needed to get stronger.

They would both grow stronger.

It went like this. Every day, she would endure the torments and the torture. And every night she would walk through the garden and reassert her desire to master her powers. To grow stronger. The days blended together, she thought of nothing. Nothing but her big brother, of the future she dreamed with him. Her and Lancelot worked together to grow stronger. She cared for Uni, but Uni… she wasn't as strong as Lancelot. She didn't want to grow strong the way he did. She just wanted to play. But Gwen couldn't play. She and Lancelot needed to be strong. So that they would never lose to anyone. They had become one and the same, even when she wasn't using her abilities. She didn't know where the small pokemon ended and she began.

She was barely 12 when she saw her brother again.

The blue-haired woman escorted her to a meeting room. It was another empty room, but there was something there that her bedroom didn't have.

Her brother.

Gwen was happy to see him. But she didn't dare get close to him. If she did… then she might hurt him. It had been so long since she saw her brother… he was taller now, and he didn't walk with a limp anymore. It had been nearly three years since the last time she saw him. She noticed that he was wearing a pair of headphones around his neck. The headphones she had given him for his birthday. The last birthday they had celebrated together.

"I don't understand, big brother. Why are you here?" Gwen asked.

"What do you mean?" Blake asked, running over to her. "Gwen, of course I would come! Richard said you were staying here, to cure your… harmonia."

Gwen stepped back. He knew. He knew what she was. She'd hoped he would never find out.

"Richard wouldn't tell me where you were at first," Blake continued. But she wasn't listening. "But eventually he admitted where you were."

It had taken a long time for Richard Harker to tell him the truth. And when he did, he had demanded that Sephiria take him there, immediately. He had thought that his father would fight him on it, he really did. But Richard had said nothing, and answered with a single nod. Sephiria was waiting for them now, outside. Blake didn't think that Richard had given him permission to break Gwen out, but… he didn't really care. He wouldn't just abandon her here. She was his sister. He would bring her home, and honestly he didn't give a damn what Richard Harker had to say about it. She was the only one still living in that house that wanted him there. Kanone wasn't home anymore. Richard seldom was. And his mother… Only Gwen. Gwen was who he needed to be with. He needed to look after her, he had promised. He wouldn't let her rot away in a place like this. Whatever was going on with this harmonia of hers, he would be there for her, he would help her through it.

That was why he had come. That was why he demanded a meeting with his sister from the woman, that Anja Karzat. He ignored her when she said that Gwen wasn't there. He demanded to see her, and wouldn't leave until she was in front of him. The doctor had made some calls, and a young man, far too young to be a doctor, had come into the room. With his white hair and cold green eyes, he sent a shiver down Blake's spine.

The man admitted that, yes, the girl in question was there. The white-haired woman was incensed. She yelled obscenities at the man, cursed him out, and demanded the girl be reunited with her brother.

And the man had complied. And now, they were here.

She didn't understand why her father wouldn't tell him anything, but she didn't really care much, either. He was here.

"Gwen, I came here…" Blake lowered his voice and looked around the empty room. "I came here to bring you home."

Gwen blinked.

"I can't go home."

"What? What do you mean?"

"What do I mean by what?" Gwen asked.

"Gwen, why can't you come home?" Blake asked.

"This power of mine…" Gwen held her hand out, her eyes flashing. A smile crossed her face as her hand began glowing blue. "I've grown so much stronger. Soon, Lancelot and I will be strong enough to defeat anything."

He could see sadness on her face. She was saying things, but her voice was trembling. Blake didn't understand what she was talking about. She was ignoring him in a way she never had before. It wasn't that she wasn't understanding his words. She wasn't listening.

"…I don't want to be here," she admitted. Her entire body began to shake. "Locked up like this… I hate it, big brother! I want to go home! But father… father won't let me go home! He doesn't want me there!"

Blake opened his mouth to say something, when a deafening sound crashed in his ears and the building shook around them. Blake reached out and grabbed his sister protectively, looking around, as the earth continued to shake.

"I don't understand!" Gwen wailed. She had tried to train her and Lancelot to be strong. But now she was a scared little girl again, trembling in her big brother's arms. She couldn't help it. Blake had grown so much taller than she remembered, and feeling him holding onto her was so much better.

"Gwen, we need to get out of here," Blake said, taking her by the hand. Another shake rattled the building. "I don't know what's going on, either, but we need to go!"

Blake pushed the door open, running through the long white hallways. He held Gwen's hand tightly, keeping her close. People were running around frantically, shouting things to one another. They were all wearing white lab coats, so Blake knew that they were doctors. None of them paid him a second glance. Two little children? No one cared one bit about them. They ran down the halls as the building shook, trying to find their way out. But Blake hadn't remembered the way he had come, and now they were completely lost.

"Big brother…" Gwen gasped, holding her side. She wasn't used to running. She couldn't remember having run even once. Her head hurt, blood trickling down from her nose. Something was… no, someone, was calling out to her. She could feel it. But she felt the warmth of Blake's hand wrapped around hers, and that was enough to tell her to keep going.

Blake turned a corner, and saw that their path ahead was blocked by burning rubble. The hall had collapsed in front of them. They would have to go back, but…

Screams were echoing out behind him. Blake began to tremble. What would they see if they went back?

"Big brother!"

Blake was shaken from his fugue by his sister's words. She had escaped from his grip and ran forward and now she was standing in front of a large set of doors, looking at him. She called out to him again in order to get his attention.

"I hear voices coming from in here!" Gwen insisted. "We need to go!"

Gwen's normally dull eyes were shining with a determination that Blake seldom saw reflected in them. He didn't hear the voices that she was talking about, but he nodded his head, and followed after her. The two entered the room, but it wasn't exactly a room. For a second, Blake thought they had made it outside. But no, they weren't outside after all, they were in an enclosure meant to simulate a pokemon habitat, but they weren't outside. The pokemon were in as much of a panic as the people had been. The water in the lake was rippling, and rocks were shaking and rolling around the ground as the pokemon cried and struggled

"Gwen, what-"

"It hurts!" Gwen wailed, holding her head. She could hear all of it, the pain and struggles of the pokemon. She stumbled towards the lake in the center of the habitat, blue light flickering around her. She coughed, blood dripping down her lips as she struggled to remain standing. Blake chased after her through the grass, reaching her side.

"Not enough, not strong enough, can't…"

"Gwen-"

"Get back!" Gwen wailed, running from him. She felt her harmonia building up, and she didn't want to hurt her brother. "I can feel it, the pain, he's in so much pain!"

"Who? Gwen, what are you-"

"There…" Gwen murmured, pointing past Blake. Her eyes were glassy and he wasn't even sure if she was answering his question, or continuing with her breakdown.

"Cor…" A small orange pokemon was halfway in the water, having been pinned down by a fallen rock. He was struggling, thrashing in the makeshift lake, struggling to get free but finding himself unable to do so.

"It's a pokemon!" Blake gasped. He ran over to the small, trapped Corphish. She pushed on the rock as hard as he could, trying to free the pokemon. Blake reached down onto his belt and removed a pokeball. "Weiss!"

Blake released Weiss from his pokeball, the Scizor glancing at him. He saw Gwen a few steps back and his eyes opened in surprise.

"Weiss, I need you to help this pokemon, he looks like he's injured," Blake said. Weiss nodded his head, raising one of his pincers, his red scales shining with a thick, silvery sheen as he struck the stone with a metal claw, shattering it to pieces. The Corphish scrambled to his feet, wincing in pain.

"Corphish!" The water pokemon snapped, clacking his pincers angrily at Weiss. He was clearly looking for a fight. But now wasn't the time for fighting.

Gwen was soaking wet, wading her way through the lake, much to Blake's horror.

"Gwen, what are you doing?" Blake demanded, chasing after her. His sister didn't even know how to swim. Weiss flapped his wings and flew over the water, grabbing onto the girl before she reached the deep parts.

"No! Let go!" Gwen growled, her body glowing blue. Weiss's body began to glow as well, and both girl and pokemon stopped their struggles. Weiss had been taking Gwen back to Blake, but instead, he turned and deposited her on the far shore, much to Blake's confusion.

Gwen could feel it. The voice calling out to her… it was close.

"Gwen! What are you doing?!" Blake shouted, tromping through the water, making as much progress as he could. Hearing the voice of his trainer, Weiss returned to his senses, glancing back at Blake.

"He's here!" Gwen gasped, a smile crossing her face. Her eyes widened.

The building continued to shake, and that's how Weiss knew something was wrong. Weiss sensed something too, something much worse. He lunged forward, grabbing onto Gwen, his body shining bright as he strengthened himself with iron defense, just in time as the far wall exploded, knocking him and Gwen forward.

Gwen picked herself up out of the dirt. Her head was throbbing in pain, and her eyes were having trouble adjusting to the brightness. She hadn't seen real sunlight in years. She gave no mind to Weiss, unconscious in front of her and half-buried in a mountain of rock and plaster. Her attention was focused entirely on the figure in front of her.

A massive dragon floated in the air, staring down at her from three different sets of eyes. Its body was black with parts of blue, and it floated on slender black wings. The pokemon was a Hydreigon.

"Gwen!" Blake shouted. With help from the Corphish he had finally made it to the far end of the lake, and reached his sister. He jumped in front of her and held his hands up, ready to shield her from any upcoming attacks. Sensing a good fight, the Corphish had followed after him, and was snapping his pincers in excitement.

But no attack came.

"Hello there."

Blake and Gwen turned their attention from the large dragon to the man standing beneath it. Although everything around them was shaking, he stood composed, a soft smile on his face. He wore a white shirt and white pants, which seemed to glow in the sunlight. His hair was a dark brown, long and tied behind him in a ponytail, and he had brown eyes that were shining with kindness. He held a hand out to the two of them.

"Who are you?!" Blake demanded. He wasn't going to let whoever this was lay a hand on his sister.

But Gwen didn't care. She was entranced by the familiar man. He felt so comfortable. She could feel it from his pokemon, that he was someone she could trust. And she recognized him. She wasn't sure from where, but there were flashes of familiarity… memory…

"I know you…" Gwen whispered, taking another step closer to him.

"Gwen!" Blake grabbed her to keep her from getting any closer, but she paid him no mind.

"Miss Guinevere Harker," the man smiled. "I'm here to get you. I've been looking for you for quite some time."

"Who are you?" Blake demanded. "What do you want from my sister?!"

Blake reached for another pokeball on his belt.

"I'm Alexander Shaw," the man replied. "So she's your sister. But I don't sense harmonia from you. You must be Blake. Your sister has told me much about you."

"What do you want with her?!" Blake shouted again. "We're going home, so just get out of the way!"

"You think home is where she belongs? A nice, quaint family life? You know it, don't you? She's special. More special than you. She doesn't belong there. That ability of hers… her harmonia is incredible. But it also makes her a danger. To you. To everyone."

The man turned to Gwen.

"Guinevere, you know it too, don't you? That you're a threat. That the more time you spend around them, the more chances you'll have of hurting them. But it's fine. You don't have to worry about any of that. Just come with me. I'll teach you how to control that power of yours."

He looked around.

"This place… Anja Karzat's days are done. The other children here, they're all looking for a place to belong. Guinevere, don't you want to become stronger? Isn't that why you've endured all of the torture and pain?"

Gwen swallowed. She nodded her head.

"She doesn't need you," Blake shouted. "I'll-"

"You'll what?" Shaw turned to him, raising an eyebrow. "You're just a child. Do you think you can protect her? Protect yourself? That girl will only cause more harm to those around her if she's left on her own. She doesn't want that. Look down. That pokemon there? Is it your strongest?"

Blake glanced down at Weiss.

"You can't protect anything. Not even yourself. Your sister has the power to be so much greater than you could ever imagine," Shaw chastised him. "Miss Guinevere. Don't you want to gain power? To protect those you care about? Come with me. Miss Guinevere, if you come with me, I will teach you how to be someone worthy of your brother's love."

Guinevere took another step forward. Her eyes were shining a bright blue, the air around her crackling with energy.

"Gwen…" Blake's voice was a whisper. He was pleading with her to walk away from this man. To come back with him, so they could go home together.

"Can big brother come with us?" Gwen asked.

Shaw shook his head.

"Miss Guinevere, you know that if you bring him with us, then you will only hurt him."

Gwen nodded sadly. She knew that was the case.

"Gwen… please."

It was all he could do.

Gwen looked back at him. But the look in her eyes… it wasn't her.

"Don't worry, big brother!" She laughed. Laughed. Gwen never laughed. But then… he couldn't see his sister in those eyes anymore.

"Here, take this."

Gwen tossed a pokeball to him.

"What? This-"

"I don't need her anymore," Gwen murmured. "She doesn't want to fight. I need strength. Not her. Take care of her for me."

"Gwen, you can't, I… please, just come back home with me!"

She smiled.

"This is goodbye for now, big brother." Gwen held her hand up, the blue light around her increasing in brightness. "I'll get stronger. Strong enough so that no one will be able to hurt you. I'll protect you. Like you protected me. I'll come get you, and then we'll be together again. Blake and Gwen. Gwen and Blake. Gwen only needs Blake. Blake only needs Gwen. Blake and Gwen together. Forever."

Blake wanted to stop her. But when he took a step forward, the Hydreigon snarled at him, giving him a warning. Blake froze in place. Gwen didn't even seem to care that he had just been threatened by a pokemon. She smiled that broken smile at him, without breaking even a second.

"Sorry. I have to go now. Don't forget, I love you, and I always will. I'll come back for you soon, okay?"

With that broken, empty smile on her face, Gwen turned and left Blake in the collapsing building, not looking back even once.

So that's it. That's the end of Blake's backstory, at least in regards to his family. Now how will Ayame react to this news, I wonder? We haven't seen her in quite some time.
