A/N: Hey guys! Back again with another chapter! Hope you like it!
Percy has yet to process the words that have just come out of his girlfriend's mouth. Partly because they came out in rapid succession, partly because her cheeks are tinted a delightful shade of pink, and partly because he can't really believe this is happening.
Annabeth groans as she chews the bite of the pasta he just handed to her for a taste test. "Percy! This is delicious!"
He grins, turning towards the plates to start portioning some out for the two of them. "I'm glad you like it." It's kind of a teasing remark since she had clearly more than liked it (something that did wonders for his self-esteem), but she ignores it, pressing her head against his back as he plates the pasta.
"I could eat that every day," she mumbles into his shirt.
His smile widens as he gently moves her off so he can set the plates on the rickety kitchen table. She immediately follows suit, grabbing a fork and digging in. "I'll make it for you every day," he tells her, preening at her compliments.
She takes a bite. "You should just move in with me."
He doesn't really know why that causes him to freeze, but he does. Fork forgotten in his pasta as he stares. Obviously, she'd been joking but—
"Oh my god!" she interrupts his thoughts, eyes wide. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean…"
Some part of him deflates at her apology. It's such an awkwardly uncomfortable subject normally, and it's just made worse when you're dating someone who not only has more money than you but is also famous.
"I didn't mean for it to come out like that," she's saying, as he tunes back into the conversation
"It's okay," he replies, looking down at the food that isn't so appealing anymore.
"I meant to talk to you about it properly but I guess I just blurted it out cause it's been on my mind so much and I just can't stop thinking about how much I'd get to see you but I don't want you to feel bad or something about it and—"
She seems to force her mouth shut by shoving another bite of food.
Present
He's not normally slow (though his brain function is always a little halted when it comes to her anyway) but it takes him a good fifteen seconds to parse through the jumble of words that have just tumbled out of her mouth.
"You're actually asking me to move in with you?" is what he finally gets out of it.
She nods shyly, unable to meet his gaze, instead staring at her food. "If you want to. I don't mean to sound…" she sighs, struggling to find the right words. "I don't mean it any type of way, I just…" She looks up at him helplessly.
"I just want to see my boyfriend more often."
He can't believe it. This is another one of those moments where he's floored by Annabeth freaking Chase. She's nervous! She's actually worried about his response.
This has to make it in that memoir, the one that's becoming more and more apparent every day, that he really needs to write.
"And like…" she continues hesitantly. "You wouldn't need to pay rent or anything like that, not cause, um, like, I just mean having you there is more than I can ever ask for from you."
"Are you trying to tell me that I'd be provided for without sounding insulting?" he asks, his brain catching up as amusement colors his features.
It's a rare form to see Annabeth this frazzled.
She cringes, looking down again. "I don't want it to be insulting." She sighs, slumping down. "I just want my boyfriend. I wish I was normal so this wouldn't have to be this hard." The words come out in almost a whine, and he can't help but chuckle.
She's entirely too adorable to exist.
He moves closer and tilts her chin up with his fingers so that he's looking at her as he speaks. "I know, you aren't being insulting, I appreciate the offer." For a second he's lost in those deep grey eyes he can't get enough of.
"And?" her voice is too soft, too hesitant and it makes his heart hurt that he's the cause of it.
"Well…" he starts slowly, "how else could I make you pasta every day? I mean at that point it's just practical—"
His words are cut off when she launches at him, pulling him into a crushing hug. He could stay right here for forever as far as he's concerned. Her body is pressed against his and the smile that graces his face is the biggest one yet.
Pulling his arms out of her embrace, so he can return the hug, he burrows closer.
"Thank you," she whispers into his neck.
"Waking up to you is my honor," he whispers back. "Thank you."
