The lobster led Spongebob and Patrick into the giant house. Inside were some empty shelves, loose strings hanging from the ceiling, and Neptune's Crown. There was also a big rusty diving suit on display like a scarecrow.
"Hurray," Patrick said, "We found the crown. That was easy."
"Yeah," Spongebob said, then he turned to the rusty suit and murmured, "so that's what happened to the Cyclops."
The lobster left the two in the main room to go to a different room. Spongebob stopped Patrick before he lifted the crown.
"It's getting pretty dark out," Spongebob said, "We should rest for the night before we try any heavy lifting."
"Great idea, Sponge buddy," Patrick said, then he looked around and spotted a bowl of water high up on a table.
Patrick pointed to it and said, "We can get some shut-eye in there."
Spongebob looked too and chirped, "Great eye, Pat!"
They climbed the table into the bowl and took a deep water breath. Spongebob sat on the bottom of the bowl staring at the limp Cyclops. He couldn't shake the feeling that it was watching him. Patrick fell asleep rather quickly.
That's when Spongebob pulled out the polaroid and looked around. He spotted a sign; it looked exactly like the sign in the picture he was holding, except for the blurry line on the photo. He could read it.
"Marine gifts and sundries," Spongebob whispered and then gasped in realization, "Shell City is a gift shop."
He then thought a bit, a part of him felt he already knew that. He reevaluated all the fragmented memories he had and then realized something else.
"We were the ones who went to Shell City and returned," Spongebob said and then asked, "But how?"
Spongebob then spotted a glowing green blob in the darkest corner of the shack. He felt like the shapeless being was watching him. The green being approached the bowl slowly.
SpongeBob felt his breath grow shallow, and his heartbeat quickened. He saw the towering ghost Cyclopes come to the bowl and reach into it. SpongeBob felt frozen in fear as the green Cyclopes grabbed Spongebob and brought him up to its eye.
"Um," SpongeBob said with a quiver, "Hello, Cyclops."
"SpongeBob," The Cyclops seemed to speak, "You have returned."
"I know," SpongeBob said; "I had to. All of my friends' lives are in danger."
Cyclops asked, "Have you seen what had become of the Flying Dutchman?"
"Yes," SpongeBob answered, "He has fused with Triton, and they have become Driton. But, I don't understand why; I thought we were friends."
"Malum has destroyed his positive memories of you," Cyclops said, "And I cannot move on past this mortal plane."
SpongeBob asked, "Why were you here before?"
The Cyclops thought a bit and, after a moment, said, "This is Aquarius' punishment for the harm I brought to you. The many fish I have killed is now tormenting me for years just as mercilessly as I have taken their lives. Aquarius brought their lives back to them, but that does not mean that I am blameless for decimating the Ecosystem that was once the shallow waters nearby."
"Oh," SpongeBob said, and then he asked, "Who is Malum?"
"Malum," Cyclops answered with hesitation, "Is the Titan of destruction, a spiteful being who hates Aquarius. I still don't understand why."
SpongeBob asked, "Did you work with him?"
"Not Directly," Cyclops admitted, "But I did give him more power as I was destroying Aquarius' domain like him."
"I see," SpongeBob said.
"You need to hurry home," Cyclops said, "Malum grows more powerful, and Aquarius can't overpower him unless you are around. Apparently."
Spongebob went quiet, thinking.
Cyclops set him down back in the bowl.
"I leave you to rest," Cyclops said, "You need it for it."
"Wait," Spongebob said.
The Cyclops stood motionless.
Spongebob then asked, "Who's this Aquarius anyway?"
"He goes by many titles," The Cyclops said, "but the one that I have heard your people refer to him as the most, is The Heart of The Ocean."
Spongebob's jaw dropped, he knew that title.
