A/N: A new update, hope you like it!

"And this is the park I used to hang ou—this isn't interesting to you," he cuts himself short, blushing a little as he realizes he's been rambling.

Annabeth tugs sharply at his arm, making him stop to look at her. Her sunglasses are covering a lot of her face, but he can tell from her frown that her eyes are probably stormy.

"Don't be like that," she grumbles. "Of course it's interesting to me!" Adamantly, she tugs him along, looking entirely too cute in her oversized hoodie (with the hood up, he might add). "Tell me more about the park."

He can't hide his grin as he walks beside her, hand in hand. Having overcome her fear of not being accepted by his family, she'd immediately become a detective, inquiring about everything and anything related to his hometown. Which, apparently, extends to the small park he used to hang out at after school (and the library, and the grocery store and all the other mundane things from the neighborhood).

"Well, you can see for yourself," he says, leading her to the grass. "Plus, Grover should be here soon."

"Right…"

Her tone change is enough to indicate that something's off. He frowns.

"What's up? Do you not want to meet him anymore?"

Earlier this morning, after having to pry Estelle away (his sister would have come to the park with them if it weren't for preschool), he'd asked her if she was okay with meeting his best friend. She'd said yes at the time, but now…

"I do," she says quickly. "it's just…"

"Is it 'cause he's a fan? He said he wouldn't freak out, and he's not really the type to do that anyway, I promise," Percy says quickly. "Well, except about food, he does freak out about food occasionally," he adds.

"No, no, that's all fine."

"Then what is it?" He squeezes her hand as they sit down on a nearby bench.

"I don't know," Annabeth responds with a sigh. "What if he doesn't…"

"Like you? I already said he's a fan." There's no way she can actually think that, right?

"Yeah, but he's your best friend…I just hope we get along."

Before he can tell her that he knows for a fact that Grover will adore her the second he meets her, he hears his name.

"Percy!"

He turns to see Grover speed-walking towards him and quickly stands up to greet his friend. "Grover! How's it going, man?"

Grover grins at him. "Good, sorry I'm a little late."

"You're not, we just got here," Percy replies. He turns towards Annabeth, who had stood up with him and is now standing almost shyly behind him while gripping his arm.

"Annabeth, this is Grover. Grover, Annabeth Chase," he introduces. Annabeth lifts a hand into a small wave, and after checking around the empty park, takes off her sunglasses.

"Hi, nice to meet you," she says with a smile.

Grover's smile turns even wider. "The pleasure is mine, it's so cool to meet you! I'm a big fan of your movies!"

Annabeth smiles. "Thanks."

"I almost didn't believe Percy when he told me he had met you," Grover continues. "Even more so when he said he had a date."

"You asked me twice if I was sure it was her," Percy interjects, rolling his eyes.

"Well can you blame me? I mean, you're great and all, but a date with Annabeth Chase?" Grover shoots him a look and honestly, he can't even argue. He still has a hard time believing his own life from time to time.

"I think Percy is better than great," Annabeth says quietly, making both of them turn to her. Percy, for his part, is too stunned to speak and Grover breaks out into a wide smile.

"He is," Grover agrees, looking at her curiously. The two of them look at each other for a second, communicating something that Percy can't figure out. Annabeth squeezes his arm and nudges closer to him after a second and Grover nods, effectively breaking up the moment before Percy can ask what that was all about.

"But," Grover continues, "he does have his moments. Let me tell you about the time in eighth grade where he almost blew up the bathroom—"

"Noooo," Percy cuts him. "She does not need to know about that!"

But Annabeth seems to have overcome whatever anticipation she had because when he turns to his girlfriend, she's got a mischievous smile on her face.

"Oh, she definitely does need to know about that," she says.

Grover grins. "I agree, there was water everywhere, actually... I might have a picture."

Percy lunges at Grover who laughs and holds his phone away from him. "Don't you dare!"

"Annabeth, catch!" And suddenly Grover's phone is in Annabeth's hands and they're both laughing and Percy shakes his head.

How did she steal his best friend in the matter of ten seconds?

But as she hands Grover back the phone and he undoubtedly looks for the picture as the two of them talk and laugh, he finds he really doesn't mind it.

Not when she's smiling like that, and especially not when she meets his eye and reaches for him.

He's by her side in an instant, even if that means staring at a picture of twelve-year-old him standing soaking wet.

Somehow, it's not that bad when Annabeth's holding on to his arm and kissing his cheek.
