Chapter 36: Mental Overload

The earth continued to tremble as Aiden's cackling became louder. The tidal wave was coming from behind him.

"Flygon!" Lucian cried.

"Pichu!" Marie cried.

"Gardevoir!" Rebecca cried.

All three of the Trainers who cried their Pokémon's name tossed their balls onto the ground and activated their Invoker armor. Their Pokémon came out with battle cries as their armors engaged. Lucian quickly leapt on top of Flygon's back. Rebecca took her Gardevoir by the hand and the two of them teleported away, and Marie watched as the oncoming Tidal wave came.

"Beatrice, c'mon!"

Lucia spun around, returned her downed Machoke to his Pokéball, and then leapt onto the back of her Salamence. She then spun her head around. "Hey, Beatrice!" She shouted. Beatrice looked up at Lucia, nodded, and ran to the dragon type. Beatrice grabbed onto Salamence's tail first before climbing her way up onto his back. Lucia then turned her head to her left and saw Quinton returning his Ditto into his Pokéball- and widened her eyes once she realized the wide distance between them. "Quinton!" Lucia cried. Quinton quickly spun and made a mad dash toward Salamence. Far behind the former champion was the tidal wave which was coming frighteningly close.

"Come on!" Lucia said, looking back and forth between Quinton and the oncoming wave that was coming even closer by the second. Beatrice had finally climbed onto the dragon type's back by then and saw her father running. Quinton leapt as high as he could onto the Dragon's side, and Beatrice Beatrice went on her hands and knees and inched close to her father who climbed his way up. The two grabbed hands, and Beatrice pulled Quinton up as Salamence took flight. Within moments, the ocean wave followed and completely submerged the grasslands, even the trees, into water.

Gardevoir and Rebecca appeared in the air with a flash of light. Rebecca's entire body was glowing purple from Gardevoir using her psychic power to keep the mother in the air. Rebecca looked beside her and saw her husband riding his Flygon. The parents then looked down to see Salamence carrying Quinton, Beatrice and Lucia. A sigh of relief came to the parents at the same time. But almost immediately- their relief was replaced with concern.

Where was Marie?

At that moment, all the way down back at the flood of water, Marrie's head burst out as she let out a gasp. "Oh goodness..!" She cried. She took in several breaths as Pichu's head came up to the surface. "That's the last time I decide to let a tidal wave hit me." Marie said.

"Piiichu..." Pichu groaned.

"You okay?" Marie asked.

Pichu turned to Marie and nodded. Marie smiled. "Thank goodness," She said.

"Why did you decide to get hit by that wave..?!" Aiden's voice came to her from above. Marie and Pichu looked up to see Zennon standing on a geyser of water, holding Aiden by the arm. Aiden hung like he was a Christmas ornament. Marie's eyes widened upon seeing Zennon.

"Z-Zennon!" Marie cried.

"It's no use, he-"

"Do you recognize me!?" Marie cried. "It's me- Marie!"

Zennon's eyes widened in shock upon hearing Marie's name. His hands began to tremble.

"No- Zennon!" Aiden cried. "Don't listen to a word she says!"

Zennon raised his free hand and placed it on his head as he groaned in pain.

"Zennon! Listen to me!" Marie cried. "It's me- don't you know me?! You're- You're my hero, Zennon! You're the one who sent me that letter- I know that now!"

"Don't you dare listen to her!" Aiden roared. "You must remember how your king is! It's me, Zennon! It's me!"

Zennon's pained cries became louder.

"Zennon- don't listen to him!" Marie cried. "I wanted to tell you this for a long time- it's because of you I was able to continue doing what I wanted to do- to be a Pokémon contestant! You're my hero- and I-.I- I love you...!"

"Zennon!" Aiden cried. "Don't you listen to this woman! Remember the pain you felt when I tortured you for hours- burning a single message to your mind! Tell me- tell me what it is! Who is your king!?"

Zennon finally opened his mouth.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Zennon's eyes started to glow with intense red light. Red electricity started to flow around his skull.

"Wha-...!?" Marie cried. "What's going on...?!"

"He's becoming overloaded...!" Aiden cried. "At this rate… He may go completely berserk!"

"Berserk!?" Marie cried.

"Drat...!" Aiden let go of his screaming minion and fell right into the ocean. He let his body be carried by the ocean waves. Aiden knew that it was far safer to be taken in by the ocean than be next to Zennon at that moment.

An intense blue aura blazed around Zennon like a flame as he roared into the heavens. Marie gritted her teeth.

"C'mon, Pichu!" She cried. She and her Pichu dove deep into the ocean- their bodies shined yellow as electricity coursed around their bodies. They soon became two balls of lightning, and then fused together.

Marie alone had emerged from the flash of light that came out once she and the Pokémon touched. Marie's legs were encased in lightning that took the form of a fish's tail. She looked like an electric mermaid.

Marie quickly made a U turn and swam toward the surface of the Ocean, and then leapt high into the air upon finally reaching the surface.

In that instant, Lucian's Flygon swooped in. Lucian grabbed Marie by the hand and the two of them flew high into the sky. Lucian pulled her up, and Marie's entire body flashed yellow before turning back to normal. Pichu was hanging onto Marie's ankle as the blonde finally climbed up. Marie then pulled her Pichu up, and the electric mouse climbed to his trainer's shoulder.

"You stayed under water so you could talk to Zennon yourself, huh?" Lucian asked, not turning back.

"Yup," Marie said, looking down at Zennon who screamed even louder. The geyser Zennon stood on lowered, and when his feet touched the waters a massive ocean twister exploded around him.

"That was my first time confessing to someone." Marie said. "Out of all the ways I expected him to react- this wasn't it."

"It's not really him," Lucian said.

"I know it's not him- I'm making a joke. Trying to ease the mood. I don't like being serious all the time."

Salamence swooped in from behind Flygon and matched his speed so they could fly side-by-side. Lucian, Pichu and Marie turned their heads to the ones mounting Salamence.

"What's the plan?" Lucia asked.

"The plan right now is that you should conserve your strength." Quinton said.

"What?!" Lucia cried.

"I can't believe I'm doing this, but I agree with Quinton." Lucian said. "Turn off that form of yours. Let the adults handle this."

"I-... Fine." Lucia sighed, and the armor made of dragon-type energy Lucia donned expanded before bursting like a bubble and disappeared like smoke.

"What's going to happen is this:" Lucian said. "You three just sit back and relax as me, Marie, and Rebecca take Zennon down,"

"I can't believe I'm doing this," Quinton said, "But I have to agree- that's the best course of action."

The two men shared a nod.

"Speaking of…Where's Rebecca?" Marie said. Marie's eyes searched for the mother, and her eyes widened once she saw Rebecca and Gardevoir already floating in front of the massive twister that was raging on.

"That's my woman," Lucian said in a boastful voice. "Always ready to fight, no matter who we're up against."

"Stop bragging and get in there," Quinton said.

"All right then-" Lucian said. "Let's go, Flygon!"

The ones boarding Salamence watched as Flygon flew downwards.

"Fathe- I mean, Teacher.." Beatrice said. "What should I do..? I've been practically useless this entire time... I want to do something." Quinton, who was sitting behind his daughter, put his hand on her shoulder.

"Just trust me," he said. "You're my secret weapon."

"Are you trying to patronize me? I don't see how I can-"

Quinton's grip on Beatrice's shoulder grew tighter. "Trust me," He said.

Beatrice nodded. "...All right," She said.

As Flygon descended closer to Rebecca, the winds from the twister blew harder onto the two adults' faces. Rebecca and Gardevoir looked upward at the ones that mounted Flygon. Rebecca's helmet from her invoker armor was off and was in its wearer's hand as the mother's hair flew wildly in the raging winds.

"It's been a while since the three of us fought together," Rebecca said without turning away from the Twister.

"Yeah, you're right..." Lucian said, looking straight at the twister. "We haven't fought together for a long time."

"I can't help but feel a bit nostalgic," Marie said. "The ones who brought down Quinton, banding together to beat someone."

"Yeah," Lucian said.

At that moment, the watery twister exploded outward- water splashed outward, and standing alone on top of the water with his entire body glowing a sapphire blue was Zennon.

"All right," said Rebecca, as she slowly put on her helmet. "Let's show the young ones what us vets can do!"

"Right!" Lucian and Marie cried.
