Chapter 60: Talent and Show.
(October 9. The Loud House, after school.)
School is done and Lincoln is in his room and changing into some clothes that could suit him for the big talent show today. Lincoln is now wearing a grey hoodie jacket with a white shirt inside, blue jeans and black and red sneakers.
Lincoln sighs and looks to himself in the mirror. "Okay, this is it. Today you are going to show everyone the song you've been working on and so many of my friends are gonna be watching me and also mom and possibly Sam, I got this."
"Of course you do." Lincoln turns to the doorway and he sees his mom and smiles. She goes over and fixes his hair. "You have talent, and even if you don't win, then at least you showed everyone you can sing and you have talent and that I'll always be proud of what you did. You put so much effort into trying to do this and I can never be more proud of you kiddo."
Lincoln smiles and he hugs his mom. "Thanks mom, thank you. I know I might not win, maybe. But as long as I did what I wanted to, then that's okay with me."
"And I will also be there to watch." They see Great Grandma Harriet walk into the room. "I know Lucy and Lisa might be there to watch you perform, well maybe, but chances Lucy will be there and I know she fears me and has no clue about me living peacefully with you two. I will remain hidden and watch as everything unfolds and that this child shows he can do much more than just planning."
Lincoln chuckles. "Thanks Great Grandma Harriet, I needed this talk from the both of you." He then checks his watch. "I think it's almost time now."
"Then let's get going" replied Luna. They head out of the room, and then out of the house. Luna makes sure the house is secured and locked and Harriet places some kind of glyph to the side to prevent any other intruders from coming in.
They then head to her car, Lincoln also sees two other cats waiting. "Are Merris and StoneHeart coming too?" asked Lincoln.
"Yeah, ever since the whole incident with Michelle Lewis and her result of following you, they wanna take in caution and keep track if anyone tries to come by again" replied Luna. "I made the call to have them come, and they also wanna see what you can do as well."
Lincoln smiles at this. "Wow. Thanks, and let's hope no one ruins the whole thing. I don't wanna have the other contestants not be able to do their own performances. They worked as hard as I did."
They hop into Luna's car and they make the drive all the way to the Middle School. With the two detectives also following them. Then the Rosato Van catches up and also the Sharp's family van, they have a convoy of family friendly vehicles with them.
(Royal Woods Grade School.)
Everyone has come to see this performance of talent from the students of the Royal Woods Grade school and the place is nearly packed and the three judges go through the list of contestants who are taking part in this.
At the backstage, Jenny is going through some last minute check-ups to make sure everything does not go wrong and she also talks to the two detectives who are also backstage helping as security. Keeping an eye out for any associates from Doug and Michelle.
Lincoln restrings his acoustic and then tunes it. "There, this is gonna work and I know this will be the biggest thing ever for me, so I don't have to be nervous."
"It's okay to be nervous man." Lincoln sees Zach and Giggles go towards him. "We kinda felt nervous as well when we were planning to do this" replied Zach. "But Giggles showed me not to be scared, especially from a large crowd."
"Just because it's gonna be on stage and in front of so many peeps, doesn't mean it's the end of the world" replied Giggles. "This is my first stage performance here in school and early stage jitters are as normal as a pie to the face and no I'm not gonna pie anyone until our act is up."
They then head off and Lincoln thinks about what they said, then Jordan goes to him. "Hi Lincoln."
Lincoln smiles seeing her, a friendly face to help cheer him up. "Hey Jordan, glad you're here. But shouldn't you be at the audience watching?"
"You're mom sent me, she wants me to be here and act as moral support while she sits back and watches as her child performs and shows everyone what he can truly do and its also kinda sweet of her to say that about you" replied Jordan as she kisses his cheek.
Lincoln smirks. "Yup, that's my mom for ya." Lincoln the peeks through the curtain and he sees his mom, Sam and Jordan's parents all waiting for the whole thing to begin. But he also sees Great Grandma Harriet from behind the shadows of the auditorium and looking at him and waving, Lincoln smiles.
He then looks around and sees some of his pals like Clyde, Stella, Simon, Liam, Tabby, Polly, Haiku, Lucy and her sister Maggie, Pop-pop, Gran-Gran, Sully, Mazzy, Chunk, Joy, Lance, Artie, Cookie, Emma and some other familiar faces. Lincoln feels nervous, but he sucks it up and does his best to be as brave as he can be.
'You got this, don't freak out and don't slip up. I can do this. Whether I win or not, it's all gonna be fine, this is for mom!'
Then they hear Principal Huggins make the announcement that the whole talent show has begun, which means the first entrant who passed the auditions is heading up and it's none other than Flat Tire. Lincoln recalls, he was the last one to audition and he made the cut.
'Looks like I'm dead last.' Jordan holds his hand and this makes Lincoln smile and feel less nervous. He can wait, in the meantime he can see what his pals have in store with their talents.
Flat Tire does some tricks on his bikes, whether he had no hands, balanced on it and he sped up and went through a flaming hoop and then jumped over some low rails and then landed back on his bike, without a scratch.
Rusty of course shows off his amazing piano skills and he is dang good at it. This makes his dad and little brother happy and proud of him, and this also shocks everyone he just did Mozart.
Zach and Giggles then show off their comedy routines, which was hilarious and to Lincoln, Luna and Lucy, they seemed to be far funny than Luan ever was and they made sure everyone got a laugh from this, especially when Zach had a brown ponytail and said she was a sports jerk and then gets pied constantly and then a joy buzzer. He took it with pride and he didn't even flinch from the pain! Wow!
Kat and Trent perform an amazing display of the nut cracker dance alongside some ballet dance skills, everyone thought they were gonna do some kind of red spotlight tango thing, but this….. They did not expect Trent to be able to do this, ballet! Wow! Artie and Lance have to ask him when he got the time to do this!
Mollie, Chloe and Christina also perform some dancing, but this one was a pop style, even though Luna didn't seem to be a fan much into pop style. She did seem to find their moves to be good, Clyde is in a trance at the grace and beauty of Chloe that he nearly faints, which Lance and Liam had to make him snap out of it.
And then came the former goons of Chandler. Dennis and Patrick and they both are on either side of the stage and both of them with a table of glasses and each one filled with water, some of them aren't fully filled with water.
They then stretch and crack they're knuckles, and they let their fingers to the work on the rims of the glasses and make some melodic sounds. This shocks everyone, they can actually do this? And Sully and Chunk feel like fainting.
They perform the American National Anthem which makes Albert, Huggins and StoneHeart salute, they then perform a Charlie Chaplin theme, a theme from the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and lastly, they make a melody from the Sound of Music and Ode to Joy.
This gets them a standing ovation and everyone loved what they did. The two boys take a bow and walk back to the backstage with their tables of glasses, where they are greeted by everyone.
"Dudes! When did you guys get the chance to do this stuff?" asked Rusty.
"That was pure amazing! I never knew you guys can do this, I mean the auditions you guys did was cool and all, but this beats it!" said Flat Tire.
"I have never even heard of this kind of stuff, I am so blown out of my mind!" said Mollie.
"Thanks guys, truth be told we've been practicing for some time and dang right we perfected it" replied Dennis.
"The hard part was finding the right songs from the past to make it sound good, the American Anthem was an idea we both got from watching a War documentary, and also the history of the Presidents" replied Patrick.
They look to them in shock. They watched a documentary? "What? There was nothing on TV" replied Dennis.
They then see Lincoln clap. "Nice job guys, I think that was the showstopper that makes everything in this talent show everything everyone has been looking for."
"Thanks man, but we wanna see how you can do what you do. We don't wanna take all the victory, you still got yours loud and we know everyone wants to see you on stage and perform" replied Patrick.
"After your auditions…. audition, we all wanna know what you got next and we know it's gonna be meaningful" replied Dennis.
"Thanks guys, from some former bad kid that means a lot" replied Lincoln as he fists bumps Dennis and Patrick.
They then hear the sound of Lincoln's name being announced by Huggins. "Well, looks like I'm up."
"You got this Loud" replied Kat.
"Show them what the son of Luna Loud can do" said Trent.
"Make all of us proud and filled with musical joy" replied Giggles.
"You got talent, you got skill and you got everyone supporting you all the way" replied Zach.
"We know you got talent, even though it was planning and being a good leader, you got more than just that" replied Rusty.
"Knock em dead with your song man, but not literally dead" replied Flat Tire.
"You got this locked and loaded loud!" replied Dennis and Patrick.
Jordan then gives him a kiss to the cheek. "Show them who you are and what Luna has done to make you the kid with talent we see today, you don't need luck because you've got skill and the love and support from your mom."
Lincoln smiles and he hugs Jordan and kisses her on the lips. "This is for you and my mom." He then goes out there with a stool in his left hand and his guitar in his right hand.
Jordan smiles and blushes as she watches the white-haired boy get on stage and get ready.
Lincoln is now on stage and he sees everyone has their eyes on him. He feels nervous, like he should bail out from this, but then he sees the smile from Luna and the words she's mouthing towards him. "You got this, I'll be here and no matter what happens. I'll always be proud of what you do kiddo."
He may not hear that, but he knows what she's saying and that's enough to give him all the confidence he needs to make this possible.
Lincoln then places the stool in the middle of the stage and he sits on it and then he strums on his guitar and then he sings.
Mama told me, when I was young
"Said sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely, to what I say
And if you do this, it will help you some sunny day" Oh yeah
"Oh take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come, and they will pass
You'll find a woman, and you'll find love
And don't forget that, there is someone up above"
"And be a simple kind of man
To be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can, if you can"
"An' get your lust from the rich man's gold
All that you need now, is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied"
"And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Won't you do this for me son, if you can, if you can?"
"Boy don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart, and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want from you my son, is to be satisfied"
"And be a simple kind of man
Be something you'll love and understand
Baby be a simple, kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can"
So baby, be a simple, be a simple man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can
Lincoln stops and he takes a deep breath and he sees everyone at a loss for words and then they clap at his performance and he takes a bow. He then sees his mom in tears and clapping alongside Sam, they then walk clear from the crowd and make their way to the backstage.
As Lincoln makes it to te backstage, he then sees his mom and Sam and he goes over and hugs them and soon enough the others are also there, even Great Grandma Harriet.
"That was beautiful kiddo! That was amazing!" said Luna as she hugs her son.
Lincoln hugs her back and has tears in his eyes at how much that put some pressure in him. "Thanks mom, I did what I wanted to do and showed them I have talent, musical talent as you do."
"And you made everyone a believer, we're so proud of you kiddo!" Sam joins in the hug and strokes his white hair.
Pop-pop chuckles. "That's my grandson."
Great Grandma Harriet sighs and smiles seeing this. "Looks like all that he learned from Luna has come to bear fruit and has showed us he talented in music, not as fully skilled as Luna, but he is a good start to a future I can see. A future for all of them."
Jordan then joins in the hug. "That was awesome Lincoln!"
All of his friends then clap for him and what he did, they were all amazed at his song and what it stood for. It really was a song for someone special, they all knew it would be for Luna, and it seemed like the song was about how much Luna wants to make him happy and the man he might be one day.
They then depart from the hug. "I am so, so proud of you Linky. You truly have pulled on my heart strings and I don't know what else to say about that song, my little talented trooper." She then wipes away his tears and kisses his forehead.
Lincoln chuckles and he hugs his mom once more, there was nothing else they can say to each other. But Luna knows he deserves something for doing this, and she knows just how to do it.
They then hear Principal Huggins and he is about to make the announcement on who wins the grand prize. A trophy and a whole month of free dinner at Jean-Juan's.
Everyone is excited to know, who won this. All of them are looking forward to see who aced this talent show and how awesome they did to earn this awesome prize.
But Lincoln didn't care, what matters he did what he said he would do and showed them that he truly was talented and that this song was heard and now known, and that his mom now feels just how much Lincoln means so much to her. Who needs a prize? When you got the love and support from a family member, who will treasure this moment forever.
