WHAT IF? - SEASON 1 EPISODE 2 - IS THIS LOVE?

1. Ext. Burger Joint. Evening.
JT and Paige come walking up to the burger joint, holding hands.
JT:
Time to uncouple.
Paige:
There´s practically no one in there. I´ll take my chances.
JT:
Are you sure? We´re moving into dangerous territory!
Paige:
Isn´t it exciting?
They smile at each other and head inside.
2. Int. Burger Joint. Evening.
JT and Paige come walking up to the counter, still holding hands. Craig comes over to serve them.
Craig:
How are you guys doing tonight?
Paige:
Nothing to complain about. I´m getting the double bacon special.
Craig types it in.
Craig:
Meal or just the burger?
Paige:
Meal.
JT:
Make it two.
Craig:
Coming up.
He heads to the back and they look longingly into each other´s eyes.
Paige:
I want to kiss you so bad!
JT:
What´s stopping you?
They kiss.
Manny:
OH, MY GOD!
They see Manny coming in the entrance, having just busted them. Joey comes up behind her.
Joey:
What did I miss?
Manny:
The sight of the century!
Manny´s gossip loving heart eats it up, while Paige isn´t looking to sad at being busted. She takes JT´s hand and owns up to it, to his delight.
OPENING CREDITS
3. Int. Hallway. Morning.
Emma and Manny are talking by Manny´s locker.
Emma:
Tonight´s the night, huh?
Manny:
We have it all planned out! This is gonna be the way, it should have been the first time. No other girls looming in the background, or the lack of communication, that we all know, what led to.
Emma:
Perhaps a bed this time around?
Manny:
That was my minimum requirement.
They see Sean is trying to follow after Ellie, who clearly isn´t too pleased with him.
Sean:
Will you wait for a sec?
Ellie:
I have nothing to say to you!
Sean:
Was what I did, really that bad? So, I had a few beers with the boys. It´s not like anyone got hurt.
Ellie:
The fact, that you lied about it is! You know, what kind of trust issues I have and you go and do something like this.
Sean:
I knew, how you´d react. You have to let me live a little, Ellie!
Ellie:
You can do all the living, you want to. On your own!
She storms off and he´s left looking annoyed at how it all went down. Spinner and Amy come up behind him, laughing.
Spinner:
The rarely seen, but very funny "Public Girlfriend Burn!".
Amy:
Did she cut your balls off too, Sean?
Sean:
Get lost!
They laugh, as they leave him and he sulkingly heads off to class.
We cut to Manny and Emma, who saw it all go down.
Manny:
Talk about a complete meltdown!
Emma:
Things aren´t looking too good for them, are they?
Manny:
I guess not!
Emma tries not to smile to herself.
4. Int. Classroom. Morning.
Sean is still annoyed, as he sits by a PC and does a little surfing before class starts. Emma and Manny come in.
Emma:
I´m gonna sit with Sean, if that´s okay? What happened out there, was brutal.
Manny:
Have fun.
Emma comes over to Sean, as Manny sits down next to Liberty, a few rows behind them.
Emma:
Is it okay, if I sit next to you?
Sean:
There´s no rules against it.
She sits down next to him.
Emma:
I saw the fight, you and Ellie had.
Sean:
She´s mad at me again. What else is new?
Emma:
Does it happen a lot?
She sees that it´s a touchy subject with him.
Emma:
I´m sorry. I had no right to ask.
Sean:
I´d say, if anyone has a right, then it´s you.
They smile shyly at each other.
Emma:
Does it?
Sean:
I try, but it hasn´t been working for a while. At the same time, I can´t kick her out on the street.
Emma:
It doesn´t sound like a good reason, to stay together.
Sean leans in to whisper something to her, that makes her smile and we cut to Manny, who´s sitting next to Liberty a few rows behind them. Manny is looking suspicious, as she watches them.
5. Int. Classroom. Morning.
Craig is talking to Paige and they´re both in a remarkably good mood this morning! Ashley and Terri come in and are surprised to see it.
Ashley:
Craig and Paige?
Terri:
You don´t think, he´s the ...
Ashley:
Him and Paige? Never!
Terri:
I´m just saying that considering both of their histories ...
Ashley:
I´m finding out, what´s going on!
Ashley walks over to them, while Terri takes her seat.
Paige:
I have to try that!
Craig:
You won´t regret it!
Ashley:
Try what?
They look up at her and she tries to play it off in a cool way.
Paige:
It´s this thing ...
Craig:
A kissing technique.
Ashley:
You two are discussing kissing techniques?
Paige:
We got to talking, about how I like to French kiss and how he does it ...
Ashley rolls her eyes at them.
Ashley:
Don´t tell me anymore, or I´ll seriously start gagging!
Craig:
It´s the one, I learned from you!
Ashley:
Like that makes it better? Urgh!
She looks insulted and goes to sit next to Terri. Paige and Craig look puzzled, as to why she´s mad.
Craig:
What was that about?
Paige:
Beats me!
Craig:
You don´t think, it could be a feminine problem, so to speak?
Paige:
She does get moody sometimes, around that time of month. Anyway, you were saying, about how I move my tongue?
Craig:
It´s basically like tongue wrestling!
Paige:

Paige looks excited, as he tells her.
We cut to Ashley and Terri. Ashley can barely believe, what she´s seeing.
Ashley:
It´s my worst nightmare come true!
Terri:
Have you seen them do anything, other than talking?
Ashley:
I don´t need, to see any more!
Terri:
I thought, you were over him.
Ashley:
I am. That doesn´t mean, I´m cool with Paige having him!
She facepalms and tries to look away from them.
6. Ext. Hallway. Morning.
Emma and her classmates come out of the classroom. She seems to have cheered Sean up.
Emma:
Have fun in P.E.
Sean:
It´s P.E. The word fun, isn´t a part of the curriculum! See ya later.
Emma:
Later!
He leaves her and she can´t keep her eyes off him, as she watches him leave. Manny (who´s looking annoyed) comes up behind her.
Manny:
Emma, we need to have a talk!
She drags Emma back into the classroom, which finally gets her eyes off Sean.
7. Int. Classroom. Morning.
Manny stares Emma down, while Emma tries to look as innocent as possible.
Manny:
Has something happened between you, I should be aware of?
Emma:
Nothing! Nothing big, anyway!
Manny:
I can tell, if you´re lying, Em.
Emma:
We kissed.
Manny:
Em! Come on! Have you gone completely cuckoo bananas?
Emma:
It was just a few kisses. They´d had a fight, we had a study date and things happened.
Manny:
So you decided to move in on him? Don´t you remember, how that ended for me?
Emma:
I´m not you, Manny.
Manny:
Would you have sex with him, if it meant that he dumped her and chose you?
Emma:
Manny ...
Her facial expression says it all and Manny looks disappointed in her.
Manny:
Haven´t you given a single thought, to what this will do to Ellie?
Emma:
Me and Sean are meant to be. I can feel it every day, when I see him.
Manny:
I won´t judge you, because with my history, I can´t do it in good conscience. Don´t do, what I did, okay?
Emma:
What would you do, if you were me?
Manny:
Try to forget it and move on?
Emma:
I don´t think, I can. I´m still in love with him.
Manny:
Then you have to tell him, that it´s you or her. He can´t have both.
Emma:
He invited me over tonight. Ellie is having dinner with her mom.
Manny:
When the cat´s away, the mice will play!
Emma:
I´ll lay down the law. If he doesn´t choose me, so be it! I´ll move on and find someone else.
Manny doesn´t look completely convinced, that Emma will have the nerve to, when it becomes crunch time.
8. Int. Classroom. Day.
Ashley is staring at Paige and Craig, while the teacher is talking. She leans over to whisper to Terri.
Ashley:
That´s four classes in a row, they´ve sat next to each other! If that isn´t enough evidence, I don´t know what is.
Terri:
We´ll ask her at lunch, so she can ease your mind.
The bell rings and the students get up. Ashley quickly walks down to Craig and Paige.
Ashley:
So, Paige. Are we eating lunch together?
Paige:
I promised Craig, I´d eat lunch with him.
Craig:
We have something important to discuss. I hope, that´s okay.
Ashley tries to appear like she´s not about to explode on the inside and plays it passive aggressive in stead.
Ashley:
it´s perfectly fine. Does Manny know, you´re having a lunch date with another girl?
Craig:
She can eat lunch with whoever she wants to and so can I.
Paige:
She eats lunch with Toby and JT, all the time.
Craig:
You have to allow each other to have separate lives, or it becomes suffocating.
Ashley looks like she can´t believe what she´s hearing and just leaves them without saying a word. They again look puzzled.
Paige:
What´s with her today?
Craig:
It´s Ashley. Moody is her middle name!
They head off to eat lunch together.
9. Int. Cafeteria. Day.
Manny is looking over the selection of food and licking her lips. Emma is in line behind her.
Manny:
Oh, Pizza. You old dirty bastard, that drives me back to you every time, I think, I´m out!
Emma:
How can you even consider, stuffing that garbage in your body?
Manny:
It´s very tasty garbage! One thing about becoming a mom, Em. All that worry about whether you have to go up a pants size, becomes a thing of the past.
Emma:
Don´t blame me, when you´re so fat, that I have to help you stand up!
Manny:
Craig says, that he prefers me with a little meat on my bones.
Ashley comes over to her with Terri in tow.
Ashley:
Does he now? I never knew, that he couldn´t stand for the short and chubby type!
Terri:
Ashley, don´t!
Manny:
Hi, Ashley! What´s up?
Ashley:
You tell me! Are you fine, with Craig doing things with Paige?
Manny:
What? They´re not ...
Ashley:
Wake up and smell the roses, Manny! He´s a serial cheater and now he´s moved on to Paige!
Emma:
That can´t be!
Manny smiles to herself.
Manny:
There is a reason for why they´re hanging out, but it´s not the one you think, it is.
Ashley:
Sweet Manny! You´re so young and naive! I don´t blame you, for what happened. I blame the snake, that lied to the both of us and I won´t let it happen again! He has a kid now and it´s time he grew up!
Manny:
Ashley, please ...
Ashley:
I´ll do it in a tasteful way. Don´t worry.
She walks over to where Paige and Craig are sitting. Manny looks worried.
Manny:
Why am I not believing her?
Emma:
What is the truth behind it?
Manny:
You wouldn´t believe me, if I told you!
She follows after Ashley, with Emma in tow.
We cut to Paige and Craig´s table.
Ashley:
Don´t you have any kind of shame? You have a kid, Craig!
Craig:
What does that have to do with anything?
Ashley:
When you slept around on me, it was bad, but at least there weren´t any kids involved! And with Paige, of all people!
Paige:
What? Me and Craig?
Ashley:
Are you really that desperate, Paige? To go after a guy, you know has a girlfriend and a kid?
Paige:
I haven´t done anything with him!
Manny comes over to the table, with Emma with her.
Manny:
She´s telling the truth, Ashley.
Ashley:
Why are they hanging out and talking kissing techniques all of a sudden, then?
Emma:
Kissing techniques?
Paige:
Talking as a pair of friends would.
Craig:
There´s nothing going on between me and Paige, Ash.
Ashley suddenly feels very foolish.
Ashley:
I´m sorry. I gotta go.
She leaves with Terri in tow.
Emma:
What are you guys talking about?
Manny:
Nothing, we need to concern ourselves with.
They go back to the lunch line.
10. Int. Hallway. Day.
Ashley is standing by her locker getting things out of it, when Paige comes over to her.
Paige:
You really thought, I was doing it with Craig?
Ashley:
Paige, I´m sorry, but you´ve had this secret boyfriend and ...
Paige:
Craig knows, who it is. Manny does too. They kind of caught us red-handed.
Ashley looks relieved.
Paige:
It´s been nice to talk to someone, where I don´t have to hide it. I think, it´s refreshing for him to talk to someone, where it isn´t about babies or responsibilities.
Ashley:
Could you really find that many things, to talk about?
Paige:
I don´t get half of what comes out of his mouth, when he talks about music! He probably isn´t too interested, in who was on the last cover of Vogue, but you pretend to be interested, to keep the conversation going.
Ashley:
I guess, I´m not a hundred percent over him. I should be, but I´m not.
Paige:
Hon, there´s no formula, that tells you how long it takes, to get over a break up. Sometimes, it takes time and that´s okay.
Ashley:
I´m liking this new you! He´s been a good influence on you, whoever that guy is, .
Paige:
He´s special, that´s for sure. I´ll tell you, who it is soon.
Ashley:
Paige, it´s okay. You´ll tell us, when you feel ready.
She closes her locker and they head off to class.
11. Int. Emma´s Room. Evening.
Emma is getting ready to go over to Sean´s place and is dressed to kill. She looks herself in the mirror.
Emma:
Sorry, Manny. It´s a dog eat dog world and it´s always easier to ask for forgiveness, that it is to ask for permission!
She touches up her make up and looks satisfied with it.
12. Ellie and Sean´s Apartment. Evening.
Ellie is getting ready to leave and she´s packed a suitcase. Sean shakes his head at her.
Sean:
You´re moving back to your mom´s over this?
Ellie:
Let´s face it, Sean. This has been coming for a while. We never used to argue and now it seems like it´s all, we ever do. I need a break from all of this and my mom has been doing better, since she went into treatment.
Sean:
I´m not letting you move back in, if you move out now. You can´t play with me like that.
Ellie:
Are you breaking up with me?
Sean:
I don´t know, what I´m doing! You sprung this on me out of nowhere!
Ellie:
When you think back, you´ll remember, why this wasn´t out of nowhere. We need a break from each other.
Sean:
What´s that supposed to mean?
Ellie:
We both need time, to think things over. Maybe this is the end of us as a couple. I can´t say for sure.
She drags her suitcase to the door and Sean opens it for her.
Sean:
Don´t let it hit you on the way out!
Ellie:
Sean ...
Sean:
You´ve said everything, that needed to be said!
She smiles at him apologetically, but it isn´t working, so she just leaves him. He closes the door after her and looks frustrated.
13. Ext. Street. Evening.
Emma is walking up to Sean´s apartment building, when she sees Ellie come out with her suitcase and quickly hides. Ellie hails a cab and the cab driver puts her suitcase in the trunk, before they get in and drive off. Emma can´t help smiling.
14. Int. Sean´s Apartment. Evening.
Sean is still looking annoyed, when there´s a knock on the door. He opens it and it´s Emma.
Emma:
Did I just see Ellie move out?
Sean:
You probably did.
Emma:
Does that mean, you´ve broken up?
Sean:
I think, it did.
Emma:
You think, it did or you know, it did?
Sean:
I know, it did.
Emma:
Good. Because I wasn´t comfortable with being the other woman.
They kiss.
15. Ext. Street. Evening.
The cab has come back and Ellie comes out of it.
Ellie:
It´ll just be a moment.
Cabbie:
I ain´t going nowhere, until I get paid!
She runs into the building.
16. Int. Sean´s Apartment. Evening.
Sean and Emma are making out on the couch, with Emma lying on top of Sean, only in her underwear. The dress can be seen lying on the floor next to it.
Emma:
Do you have any of those, you know?
Sean:
Condoms? Seriously?
Emma:
I´m ready, if you are.
They start kissing again, but are interrupted by the sound of the door being unlocked.
Sean:
Oh, crap!
Ellie comes in and it´s an awkward moment, to say the least! Emma gets off of Sean and tries to cover herself up. Ellie stares at them in disbelief.
Ellie:
How long, has this been going on?
Emma:
Not long, I promise!
Ellie:
I wasn´t asking you!
Sean:
Ellie, I´m sorry ...
Ellie:
Save your apologies for someone, who cares! I´m getting my wallet and then I´m out of here for good.
She takes it from a table and leaves, slamming the door on her way out. Emma puts her dress back on and is clearly embarrassed.
Emma:
I should go. This was a mistake.
Sean:
It´s not a mistake.
Emma:
Yes it is! You got together with her, when you knew, I was still in love with you and you didn´t care, how hurt I would be. I can´t do the same to her! You´ll never change.
She hurries out of there, leaving him even more frustrated.
17. Int. Manny and Craig´s Room. Evening.
Manny and Craig´s Room has been made to look much more romantic with candles and all the like. They´re under the covers basking in the afterglow, as she rests her head on his bare chest.
Manny:
Remind me, to thank Paige.
Craig:
Those pointers she gave me worked?
Manny:
Oh yeah, they did!
Craig:
I´m glad. I was kind of a fumbling amateur, who didn´t know what he was doing before.
Manny:
Kinda, but you were very sweet about it.
Craig:
So were you.
Manny:
What was it, that made you choose me over Ashley?
Craig:
Moments like these. I feel comfortable, when I´m with you, like I´m not with anyone else.
Manny:
Ditto.
She kisses his chest and closes her eyes, as she rest her head on it and listens to his heart beat.
18. Ext. Mall. Evening.
Paige comes out from the mall after work and meets up with JT.
Paige:
How many guys would go out of their way, so they could walk me the two blocks home?
JT:
This one.
Paige:
Have I told you today, how crazy I am about you?
JT:
How crazy would that be?
Paige:
So crazy, that I can´t stop myself from kissing you.
They start kissing passionately.
We cut to Jay following Alex out of the movie theatre.
Jay:
Sweetheart. We can work this out!
Alex:
I´m not your sweetheart, Jay! I´m sure, I don´t need to tell you why!
Jay:
Alex, please!
Alex:
Go back to the scum of the earth, where you belong!
He sees that there´s no reason to argue with her and gives it up. He looks around in hopelessness and sees Paige and JT making out.
Jay:
Interesting!
He gets his phone out and takes a picture of it before sneaking off.
We end on Paige and JT kissing and looking very much in love.
