"3 Guys and a Girl" are jamming away, minus the girl. She comes in trying to look like she´s got a cold and they stop playing.
Darcy:
Sorry, guys.
Craig:
Don´t tell me ...
Darcy:
It´s official. I have a cold.
She does a fake cough, that no one is falling for, so she does it again. The guys look suspicious, put their instruments away and come down to her.
Spinner:
How can this happen, three days before our first gig?
Darcy:
It´s not like I planned on it.
Spinner:
No, I mean HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? It´s still summer outside!
Marco:
What´s really the matter, Sweetie?
Darcy:
I told you ...
She does another fake cough, but she clearly isn´t very good at it and gives it up.
Darcy:
I should have listened to my sister, when she said it wouldn´t fool anyone!
Craig:
Why would you fake an illness at a time like this? It wouldn´t have anything to do with your "boyfriend situation", would it?
Darcy:
I already knew that Danny and Peter were coming, but I can deal with that! I just found out, that Rick is coming too.
Marco:
See, this is why you set a limit at two boyfriends, Darcy!
The boys find it amusing, Darcy not quite as much.
Darcy:
It´s not that I didn´t know, I´d have to make a decision sooner or later. I was hoping, it would be later.
Spinner:
It could be for the best. You´ll feel a million times better, when it´s done.
Darcy doesn´t look convinced.

2. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
Peter is filming Paige, Chantay, Mia and Darcy doing a promo for Degrassi TV. Paige, Chantay and Mia are in their Spirit Squad uniforms, while Darcy is in her normal clothes.
Paige:

Darcy:

Chantay:
All that for five dollars at the door! How can you lose?
Peter:
And cut! That was great, ladies. I´ll get it to Liberty right away.
Peter begins to pack it up.
Paige:
I have things to do. Are you girls coming?
Chantay:
I am. I gotta pee!
Mia:
In a moment, guys.
Chantay:
I can´t wait that long!
Chantay hurries inside. Paige follows after her.
A shy looking Mia comes down to him, making Darcy jealous.
Mia:
It was nice of you to do this for free.
Peter:
It´s nothing.
Darcy:
He did it because I asked him to! Isn´t that right, Peter?
Peter:
I would have done it anyway. If me doing this can save a life or two, why wouldn´t I do it?
Mia looks pleased with his answer. Darcy doesn´t take it as well, but plays it off with bad acting.
Darcy:
You said "Since it´s you, who asked me". I thought, I was special to you!
Mia:
Whatever the reason, it´s was pretty boss of you. See you tonight.
Mia and Peter smile at each other and she heads inside. Peter looks oblivious, that Darcy is getting jealous.
Darcy:
Do you like her?
Peter:
I don´t dislike her. Are you coming?
Darcy nods, but she clearly isn´t liking what´s going on.
3. Int. Hallway. Day.
Ashley is hanging out with Craig and Marco.
Ashley:
That more or less sums it up.
Marco:
So it´s funk, rock, soul pop and Techno with a jazzy feel?
Ashley:
I suppose, there´s also a some hip hop influence in there.
Marco:
Did you go through a checklist and and say: "We need some of this and some of that"?
Ashley laughs.
Ashley:
I can see how it could sound that way, but no, we didn´t. She just inspires me in ways, I never thought someone could.
Craig:
It sounds like it could be amazing or a huge mess!
Ashley:
I´m hoping that it´ll mostly be the first.
Marco:
Are you gonna be the next great gay music duo, like a lesbian version of Erasure or The Pet Shop Boys?
Ashley:
Now there´s an idea? Why am wasting my time in school, if I can go off an be a popstar?
Marco:
Those girls who did that song "All the things she said", weren´t even really lesbians and they became famous for it. Why can´t you?
Craig:
They weren´t?
Ashley:
I read that too. It turned out that one of them was married. I don´t know, if I want to become famous, just because I like girls. I want them to like it, because they like the music.
Marco:
Don´t you think Freddy Mercury "Gay´d it up" in the 80´s to save his career? He knew what worked! Or what about the glam metal guys, who tried their best to look like girls? They knew that there was an equal amount of wet panties and boners in their audience!
Craig:
I´ll never listen to "Talk Dirty to Me" the same way again!
Marco:
If you want a lesbian example, look at The Runaways. They didn´t say it in so many words, but everyone must have known that Cherie and Joan were doing it! If it helps you get noticed, then what´s the harm in it? Are they remembered because you had two wild, jail bait girls, who couldn´t keep their hands off each other? No, they´re remembered as the first all female rock band to hit it big. Today, the rest is a foot note.
Ashley considers it and doesn´t look too dismissive of it.
4. Int. Girl´s Locker Room. Day.
Darcy and Chantay are getting changed for P.E.
Darcy:
I am the worst!
Chantay smiles at her.
Chantay:
You´re really not, Hon.
Darcy:
You said it again.
Chantay looks annoyed.
Chantay:
Why can´t I stop myself? I never said it before I met Paige!
Darcy:
Can we trade problems?
Chantay:
So you can be the girl, no boys want and I can be the one, too many of them want? Let´s see ... yeah, I´ll trade you!
Darcy:
Trust me, when I tell you, it´s not what it´s cracked up to be! I used to watch Hannah Montana and think, wow, wouldn´t it be great if I had guys, who liked me that way? Now I´m starting to get, why she kept separate identities!
Chantay:
Say the first thing that comes to your mind. Who do you want to be with?
Darcy:
All of them! None of them! I don´t know!
Chantay can´t help looking a little amused.
Chantay:
Can we at least eliminate one? What about Danny? You haven´t done anything with him yet, have you?
Darcy:
No, but I can´t eliminate him. I like him. He makes me laugh and I feel comfortable, when we talk. Plus, he´s super hot!
Chantay:
Fair enough. What about Rick?
Darcy:
I can´t eliminate him!
Chantay:
Why not?
Darcy:
Rick is so sweet and he has a heart of gold. The thought alone, that I could do anything hurt him, after how mean people have been to him, breaks my heart. He deserves better than that and who knows, what it could do to his mind? What if he goes off the rails and it´s because I can´t control my stupid hormones?
Chantay:
That only leaves Peter.
Darcy:
This is gonna sound selfish, but work with me here.
Chantay:
I´ll try.
Darcy:
With Peter, it´s more that I like having power over him.
Chantay:
You´re losing me.
Darcy:
Remember how we made that pact to be together, if he stays on the straight and narrow? It´s turning out to be very useful.
Chantay looks surprised with Darcy and not it a good way.
Chantay:
You can´t keep him hanging on to hope forever!
Darcy:
Why not? He does things for me, when I want him to, no questions asked. Don´t you wish, you had a guy like that in your life?
Chantay:
I do and I call him dad!
Darcy:
You do mean your real dad, don´t you? Because otherwise, you and me need to have a serious talk!
Chantay:
Of course, I mean my real dad. This is incredibly messed up, Darcy!
Darcy:
Don´t you think, I know that? It´s the same as you saying "Hon" all the time. I try not to, but it´s easy to fall back into, when you know he won´t complain.
Chantay:
He doesn´t because you´re stringing him along! Your karma has to be hitting new lows!
Darcy:
On top of that, I´ve never broken up with anyone before. There´s always blind luck, that they never find out.
Chantay:
You want my advice? Tell all three of them and let them dump you, which I´m sure they will! Then you start fresh with someone new and stick to that one guy! No second boyfriend on the side and I can´t stress this enough, definitely no 3rd guy, waiting in the wings!
Darcy:
Why do you have to be right all the time?
Darcy looks annoyed with the situation.
5. Int. Ashley´s Room. Day.
Ashley has a keyboard set up and is letting Maria in. They kiss and smile at each other.
Ashley:
Mmm! I´ve been waiting to do that all day!
Maria:
I hope it lived up to your expectations!
Ashley:
It always does. Can we make out a little before we rehearse?
Maria:
You don´t have to twist my arm.
Ashley takes her hand and they lie down on her bed.
Ashley:
I wrote another song today. It´s a little racy and a little bit political, but I think you´ll like it.
Maria:
You have me intrigued. Sing it for me.
Ashley:
The lyrics still need some fine tuning, but here goes.
Maria:
I´m sure, I´ll love it.
Ashley (singing):

Maria doesn´t look like she likes it that much.
Ashley:
What´s wrong with it? We need to make a stand and say that we shouldn´t be looked down on, because of our sexuality.
Maria:
I´m all with you on the message, but is the rest of it in the same tone?
Ashley:
The first verso is just a warm-up for the second verse, where we really hit them with the big guns!
Maria:
We? You mean you, right?
Ashley looks surprised.
Ashley:
I thought we could perform it at the benefit show.
Maria:
My parents will be there! As far as they know, you´re my new friend and that´s it.
Ashley:
You´ll have to come out to them eventually.
Maria:
Not through your manifesto set to music! If that´s the kind of music you want to play, then it´s without me.
Ashley:
Fine! I´ll perform alone, if I have to! You know why? Because I´m not afraid to be honest about, who I am!
Maria shakes her head at her and gets off the bed.
Maria:
They´re not dumb. If you play that song, it will out me.
Ashley:
Think of it as me doing you a favor.
Maria:
I can´t believe you!
Maria hurries out of the room, Ashley tries to follow after her.
Ashley:
Wait! I didn´t mean it like ...
She hears the front door slam and looks annoyed with herself.
Ashley:
That.
She looks torn over what to do.
6. Ext. Liberty and Danny´s House. Day.
Darcy is waiting impatiently, when Danny comes out, They smile at each other.
Danny:
This is a nice surprise. You can come in, if you want. My parents won´t mind.
Darcy:
That´s alright. I have to get to work soon. I just wanted to talk.
Danny:
Before you ask, no, I don´t remember what homework we got! I was too busy goofing off in the back row.
She giggles.
Danny:
My mom always told me, honesty is the best policy.
Darcy:
That sort of leads in to why I´m here. I haven´t been treating you fairly.
Danny:
What makes you say that?
Darcy:
Because I led you to believe, that we´re gonna be a couple. Right now, I don´t know if that´s possible.
Danny:
Why don´t we put it to the test?
Darcy:
How would we do that?
Danny:
Like this.
He kisses her and it doesn´t look at all, like she minds it. In fact, it looks like she´s enjoying it a whole lot. She quickly plays it off like she didn´t though.
Darcy:
Why did you do that?
Danny:
I thought it was what you wanted!
Darcy:
It is or it isn´t! Can´t I be undecided for now? I have to get to work!
She runs away from him and he´s left looking puzzled.
Danny:
I could live until I´m two hundred and I still wouldn´t understand girls!
He shakes his head, as he heads back inside.
7. Int. Little Miss Steaks. Evening.
It´s kind of a dead night at the restaurant and Darcy and Craig are passing the time playing rock-papper-scissors. Craig wins.
Craig:
71-54.
Darcy:
I forfeit on account of not thinking, I have a chance at making a comeback.
Craig:
Yay! I win nothing!
Darcy:
What I´d like to win is something to do, so the time will pass faster.
They hear the bell ring and look pleased. It´s Mia.
Craig:
Table for one?
Mia:
I don´t know if I could afford a glass of water in this place! I came to ask you something, Darcy.
Darcy:
Is it okay, if I take my break, Craig?
Craig:
I´ll survive. I´m Craig, a friend of Darcy´s.
Mia:
Mia Jones. It´s nice to meet you, Craig.
Darcy:
We can talk outside.
They head outside, as Craig wonders to himself.
Craig:
Where were all these hot girls, before I met Manny?
8. Ext. Little Miss Steaks. Evening.
Darcy and Mia come outside.
Darcy:
What´s so important, that it couldn´t wait until tomorrow?
Mia:
I hope you don´t mind me asking, but what´s the status between you and Peter?
Darcy is a little taken aback by the question.
Darcy:
Status? As in ...
Mia:
Your romantic status. If you have your eye on him, then I´ll back off, no questions asked. You´re one of the few girls I´ve really gotten along with, since I started at Degrassi and I don´t want to mess that up. It´s just that if you don´t have any plans in that regard ...
Darcy:
Then you´d like to date him?
Mia:
Kinda. He´s the complete opposite to my jerk ex-boyfriend from Lakehurst. To think I almost did it with that A-Hole! Sorry, I´m rambling. I do that, when I get nervous.
Darcy:
Me and Peter are ... I don´t know how to pur it ...
Mia:
It´s okay, really. He was yours before I got here and I´m not the kind of girl, who would get in the way of a friend like that.
Darcy:
We´re friends?
Mia feels foolish.
Mia:
Yet another situation, I completely mis-read! That is so like me! I´ll just go.
Darcy:
I wouldn´t mind giving it a try.
Mia smiles.
Darcy:
It wasn´t too long ago, that I was the new kid, who was trying to fit in.
Mia:
You won´t regret it! I´ll be the best friend, you could ask for!
Darcy:
What about your old friends?
Mia:
I left most of them behind, when I left Lakehurst behind. Jane, my ex-boyfriend´s sister, is the only one, I´m still in touch with.
Darcy:
You should bring her to the benefit. I´d love to meet her.
Mia:
I think, she´ll be up for it. Look, just forget I said anything about Peter, okay?
Darcy sees the chance to do something good and decides to go for it.
Darcy:
Why don´t we let him decide?
Mia smiles and seems to like the idea.
9. Int. The Dot. Evening.
Ashley is drinking a large milkshake at the counter, while Spinner is working. We´re approaching closing time, so there´s only a few other customers there. She finishes the last of it and pushes the glass towards him.
Ashley:
Another one.
Spinner:
I´m not sure, I can legally give you a fourth! You´ll up all night on a suger high!
Ashley:
So what? What´s point of anything?
Spinner:
Did we just go back in time a few years? Are you bringing the Goth haircut back too, because to be honest with you ...
Ashley:
I´m not making that mistake again! Why do you think I´ve thrown every picture of myself with that haircut out?
Spinner:
Then it can only be girl troubles.
Ashley:
No offense, Spinner, but you have the emotional maturity of a Blueberry Scone!
Spinner laughs. Ashley herself can´t help laughing a little too.
Spinner:
Not to toot my own horn, but I have had the same girlfriend for a year, so I must be doing something right.
Ashley:
How would you feel, if you went to Amy with something, you´re very excited about and she completely shoots it down. She even gets so mad at you, that you´re unsure if you´ve been dumped or not!
Spinner:
Do you feel like, you´re in the right?
Ashley:
Of course, I am! The world isn´t gonna change, if we keep hiding away from what we are.
Spinner:
Have you considered, that she might not be someone, who wants to change the world? It´s a pretty big goal to set for yourself.
Ashley considers it, while looking surprised that Spinner could be so right.
10. Ext. Degrassi. Morning.
Peter arrives for school to find Darcy waiting for him.
Darcy:
Good morning.
Peter:
Same to you. Why aren´t you inside?
Darcy:
I wanted to talk before school. Is that okay?
Peter:
Sure, what about?
Darcy:
You and me. It´s not gonna happen and it isn´t right for me, to keep leading you on. I´ve been feeling guilty over it.
Peter looks to be taking it okay.
Darcy:
Are you disappointed?
Peter:
A little, yeah. What happened? I thought, you liked me?
Darcy:
I do, just not in that way. What we had was a moment of craziness, that wouldn´t have happened, if we hadn´t both been high. It didn´t mean anything to me. You could have been anyone that night and I would have gone for it.
Peter:
Is there a point to this or are you trying to tear me down?
Darcy:
What happened was still a great thing, because it meant I got to know you and after a rocky start, I´ve grown to like you. As a friend.
Peter::
I can accept that. Thanks for being honest, I guess.
Darcy:
Have you thought about asking Mia out? I think, she likes you.
Peter looks cheered up again, to Darcy´s relief.
11. Int. Hallway. Morning.
Maria comes up to her locker, that has a pretty sign on it saying "I´m sorry". Ashley comes over to her.
Ashley:
I´m glad, you´re here. I could barely sleep last night and it wasn´t just because I drank four milkshakes.
Maria giggles.
Maria:
Four? I haven´t been able to do that, since I was ten!
Ashley:
Sugar relaxes me and after how things went yesterday, I needed to relax. We don´t have to play that song, if you don´t want to. It probably won´t come to much as a surprise to you, when I tell you, that I like to be in control of things.
Maria:
Not really, no.
Ashley:
Couple that with me still getting used to my new life and you get a control freak, who wants everything to be changed immediately to fit exactly, how she wants it.
Maria:
I´m starting to see, why it didn´t work out with you and your boyfriends!
Ashley:
What I´m trying to say is that I´m kind of a basket case, but this time I´m aware of it going in, so I can try to change.
Maria:
Nah, I like you the way you are.
Ashley smiles widely.
Ashley:
You do? What about the song?
Maria:
Save it for your solo album.
Ashley:
Okay. Can I walk you to class?
Maria:
You can, if you´re willing to do a do-over after school?
Ashley:
You got it.
The girls head off for class.
12. Int. Cafeteria. Day.
Darcy and Chantay are eating lunch together. Darcy looks over at Mia and Peter, who are sitting at a different table and are flirting. She makes eye contact with Mia and they smile at each other.
Chantay:
That´s one down. Nice work!
Darcy:
Thanks. They make a cute couple, don´t they?
Chantay:
In a very white bread kind of way. That came out wrong!
Darcy:
I get what you meant!
Chantay:
What about Danny?
Darcy:
I´m telling him, that he should look elsewhere. If you went out on a date with him, that could ...
Chantay:
No! Ah-Ah!
Darcy:
This is the sort of thing best friends do for each other.
Chantay:
Maybe where you´re from. This is your mess, not mine.
Toby comes over to them, looking excited.
Toby:
Did you talk to Rick last night?
Darcy:
No, I was at work all evening.
Toby:
He starts back here next week! Isn´t that great?
Darcy looks pleased.
Darcy:
Yeah! I´ll call him later.
Toby:
See ya.
He leaves them.
Chantay:
You´re getting it done in the nick of time.
Darcy:
Everything will be great now. No more drama or worries, just him and me until the end of time!
Chantay:
Or until he finds out, what you did with Peter. Can imagine the mess it would be, if you had made out with Danny too?
Darcy:
Do you really think, it would make that much of a difference?
Chantay:
Yeah, it would! First of all, you´re talking about two best friends and you can forget about getting Rick back, if he finds out. You´re lucky, it didn´t go further, than it did.
Darcy:
Yeah, I guess so.
She tries to smile it off, but it still clearly worries her.
