WHAT IF - SEASON 2 EPISODE 11B - PARTYGIRL
Disclaimer: I don´t own Degrassi or the characters from it.
Author´s Note: This one wasn´t originally a part of the series, but after re-reading the last episode, I decided to put it in here as a late addition, hence the 11B episode number. I named it after one of my favorite U2 songs from the 80´s, so that it could be like a sister episode to the last one, as well as a continuation. Now that it is here, it actually helps to tie together a few loose strings and make the stories even better, than they already were.
Again, thanks for the support. The series is hitting reader numbers, I didn´t think was possible when I started it and it wouldn´t have happened, if it wasn´t for you guys and the way you´ve taken it to you.
1. Int. The Dot. Evening.
Spinner is taking his break and is on the phone with his little sister Kendra. Jay and Sean are sitting at the counter.
Spinner:
Milk and bread. Got it. I´ll be home in an hour or so. No, I´m not bringing Amy home tonight! Bye, Kendra.
He hangs up and looks annoyed. Sean and Jay think it´s a little funny.
Sean:
Is she your sister or your wife?
Spinner:
Shut it!
Jay:
We won´t frown on it. She is adopted, after all!
Spinner:
You have a sick way of thinking, Jay!
Jay and Sean laugh.
Spinner:
It isn´t funny! She´s growing up way too fast and I don´t like it.
Sean:
Aww, how cute! The classic over protective older brother and we get to call him our friend!
Spinner:
I know what guys think like and I don´t trust Toby any further than I can throw him! If he cheats on her, or so help his mortal soul, gets her pregnant, he´s a dead man!
Jay:
The guy´s a dweeb! He probably wouldn´t have a clue what to do, if she got naked in front of him!
Spinner:
Don´t even think it!
Sean:
Your sister is pretty, in her own way. You can´t keep guys away from her forever.
Spinner:
I´m tired of this subject. How about we discuss your so-called friend date, with Liberty Van Zandt?
Jay looks surprised.
Jay:
Who´s Liberty and why are you taking her on a friend date?
Sean:
She´s a friend of Emma´s and she needed a date for the dance. It´s like I´m doing Emma, her and Manny a favor at the same time.
Jay:
Why did you keep it a secret, then?
Sean squirms a little in his seat and Spinner enjoys not being the one in the hot seat.
Sean:
Because it doesn´t matter, okay?
Jay:
It doesn´t sound that way.
Spinner:
Do you think that Liberty is pretty, Sean?
Sean:
I guess, in her own way, like your sister. In fact, that´s a great analogy. It´s basically like I´m taking Spinner´s little sister to the dance. I´ll be a gentleman, treat her nice and enjoy that I scored points with Emma for once. After the dance, she´ll go back to just being one of my girlfriend´s friends. Nothing more.
He continues squirming. Jay and Spinner eye each other, not sure what to make of his denials.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Kendra´s Room. Evening.
Kendra is getting ready for the dance and looks very pretty in an innocent sort of way. Spinner knocks on the door and sticks his head in.
Spinner:
How much longer do you need?
Kendra:
I´m done. Just putting on the final touches. What do you think?
She does a little twirl in her dress and is almost gleaming with excitement. It makes Spinner smile, as he comes into the room.
Spinner:
I´ll have to chase boys off with a stick tonight.
Kendra:
This isn´t the time for teasing!
Spinner:
You´re growing into a beautiful young woman and I´m not just saying that because I´m your brother and you´re the perfect little sister in every way. It also makes me worry.
Kendra:
I´m not a little kid anymore. You have to allow me to have my own experiences, like you did.
Spinner:
It´s different for guys. It might not be politically correct to say so, but it is and always will be. The thought alone of someone hurting you or breaking your heart ...
Kendra smiles at him and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Kendra:
Do you trust me to do the right thing and not jump into something, I´m not ready for?
Spinner:
I know how persuasive us guys can be.
Kendra:
You are hopefully well aware that the word no, is a part of my vocabulary?
Spinner:
I´m gonna keep protecting you, whether you like it or not. We´re not siblings by blood, but we´re siblings by soul, where it matters and if someone hurts you, then they´ll hurt me at the same time.
They smile at each other.
3. Int. Emma´s Room. Evening.
Emma is lying on her bed and Sean gently kisses her goodbye.
Sean:
We´ll go together to the next one.
Emma:
Don´t worry about me. I´ve got my West Drive marathon to keep me occupied and my parents at my beckon call.
Sean:
West Drive? I need to get you out of here soon!
She playfully punches him on the shoulder and he pretends that it hurts.
Sean:
Easy there, Slugger!
Emma:
Promise me, that you´ll be the perfect date for Liberty. It´s time, she finally had one.
Sean:
She hasn´t? That´s a bit of a surprise.
Emma eyes him.
Emma:
Do I need to worry?
Sean:
No, of course not! It´s just that she isn´t ugly by any means and she seems nice enough. Plus, she´s got that nerd thing going for her and some guys dig smart chicks.
Emma:
Do you?
Sean:
I can´t seem to stay away from you, can I?
Emma:
Good answer! Have fun.
Sean:
You too and try to watch something that isn´t a soap opera, please? Those shows will rot your brain.
Emma:
So, I´ll become a cleaning lady in stead of a marine biologist. Will you still love me?
Sean:
Always.
They kiss goodbye and he leaves her. She turns on her TV.
Zoe Rivas (on TV):
What do you mean, that Cassius isn´t my brother?
Man (on TV):
He is not your real brother. I am! You were switched at birth for his sister!
Zoe Rivas (on TV):
My life is ruined!
Emma:
How can anyone not love this show?
She gets comfy and smiles to herself.
4. Int. Gymnasium. Evening.
Toby and Kendra come in holding hands. It´s perfectly romantic, until Spinner comes up behind them.
Spinner:
Toby, we need to have a talk. Man to very tiny man.
Toby doesn´t look too pleased at the prospect.
We cut to Manny and JT, who look like they´re having a great time together.
JT:
It doesn´t compare to staying at home, does it?
Manny:
There´s a West Drive marathon on, that I´m missing.
JT:
Not you too!
Manny:
Sorry, JT. I was the enabler, that got Em started.
Danny and Chantay come over to them. JT and Danny fist bump.
JT:
How´s the date going?
Chantay:
We want to thank you, Manny. Without you, we probably wouldn´t have gone here together.
Manny:
You´re welcome. It was my pleasure.
JT:
Like I didn´t help? Who was it that introduced you to Manny?
Danny:
My sister.
JT:
Oh. Well, who was it that told you to ask Chantay out?
Danny:
Peter and to some extend Derek.
JT:
Who was it that ...
Manny:
Give it up, JT. I deserve the credit for this one.
She takes his hand and he melts like butter. Chantay and Danny see it and she quickly lets go. She looks a little embarrassed, but Chantay just smiles at her.
Chantay:
Have fun. As if you aren´t already.
She winks at Manny and leaves with Danny. Manny and JT smile awkwardly at each other.
5. Int. Boy´s Room. Evening.
Spinner practically drags Toby in there and looks him in the eyes.
Spinner:
Since my sister decided to give you a second chance and I was a tiny bit to blame for your last break-up, we need to have a talk about the birds and the bees.
He holds up one of his fists in front of Toby´s face.
Spinner:
This hand is a scrawny bird, AKA you.
Toby:
That isn´t how this talk usually goes, is it?
Spinner:
It´s how it goes this time, understood?
Toby just nods. Spinner holds up his other fist.
Spinner:
This one is me, if you do anything to break my sister´s heart. I´m a very angry bee, who´ll chase you around everywhere, so I can sting you to death!
He opens one of his hands and punches his palm with the other, making a nice slap sound, that makes Toby jump a little.
Spinner:
Are we clear on this matter?
Toby:
Crystal.
Spinner:
Keep your hands decent and if you´re lucky enough that she´ll want to French kiss, you do this.
He sticks his tongue out and swirls it around in a circle. Toby looks confused, but tries it for himself.
Spinner:
Use that technique on her and she´ll love you for it. Trust me.
Toby:
Thanks, I guess.
Spinner:
It´s isn´t to help you, bird brain! It´s for her, so she can have a perfect evening.
Toby:
What if she wants to ...
Spinner puts his hands on his ears.
Spinner:
LA, LA, LA, LA!
He removes them again.
Spinner:
She came here a virgin and she´s coming home one.
Toby:
Got ya.
Spinner gives him a pad on the back and Toby looks relieved, that it´s over.
6. Int. Gymnasium. Evening.
Liberty and Sean are dancing and he´s actually impressing her with a few new moves, he´s picked up. The song ends and they go to get some punch. They both get a glass and have a sip, before going to sit down. He very politely pulls out the chair for her and waits for her to sit down, before doing so himself.
Liberty:
You´d better watch out, or you´ll lose that bad boy rep!
Sean:
I´m not bad. Not anymore, anyway.
Liberty:
Getting a girl knocked up, will do that to you. It did the same for my dad.
Sean:
I suppose so. Can I ask you a question?
Liberty:
As long as it isn´t why I´m African American and can´t dance!
They smile at each other.
Liberty:
Shoot.
Sean:
Why don´t you have a boyfriend?
Liberty gets shy at the question.
Liberty:
I don´t know. Ask the guys, why they aren´t asking me out.
Sean:
I can answer that. It´s because they´re all idiots! I consider you to be a catch.
Liberty smiles widely.
Liberty:
You´re not just saying that?
Sean:
I would give you a chance, if me and Em weren´t joined at the hip.
Liberty:
Do you think, we´d make a good couple?
Sean:
It would probably be a short, yet very eventful and memorable relationship. You still haven´t answered my question. Is it JT, that you´re still hung up on?
Liberty:
Maybe. I know that we´re better off as friends, but it feels like it´s unfinished business with him. Like I never had that closure, that will help me to put a lid on it, once and for all.
Sean:
I can help you get that.
Liberty:
How?
Sean:
We´ll find a way. You are the smartest girl around here, aren´t you?
She nods and looks pleased.
We cut to Manny and JT on the dance floor. A slow song is playing and they´re dancing at a safe distance from one another. It´s a little awkward between them.
JT:
We can sit this one out, if you want to.
Manny:
Okay. I mean, if you want to.
He smiles at her and moves in closer.
JT:
You took my hand. No big deal.
Manny:
It scared me.
JT:
Why?
Manny:
Because it felt like a natural thing to do, at that moment. I´m ...
She looks him in the eyes.
Manny:
Not supposed to feel that way.
Things get serious between them for a moment, but they´re interrupted by Sean and Liberty.
Sean:
You can´t hog the second prettiest girl in the room all night, JT.
JT is a little flustered and looks confused. Manny tries to snap out of the moment.
JT:
Who´s the prettiest?
Manny quickly whispers something in his ear.
JT:
Liberty, of course!
Sean:
Can I have this dance, Manny? For old times sake.
Manny:
Yeah, sure.
They start dancing and move away from Liberty and JT, who naturally start grooving to the music too. JT however is having trouble not looking Manny´s way and her the same, when it comes to him.
Liberty:
JT, it´s only polite to look at the one, you´re dancing with.
JT:
Sorry. We were in the middle of a conversation, when you interrupted us. It´s still on my mind.
Liberty:
What about?
JT:
It´s ... I´d rather not discuss it, if that´s okay.
Liberty looks over at Manny´s longing eyes for JT and gets the picture. She looks disappointed, but tries not to show it and keeps dancing with him.
We cut over to Spinner, who´s looking for Kendra with Amy in tow.
Amy:
Spinner, I didn´t come here to play babysitter to your sister!
Spinner:
When we find her, I can put it out of my mind.
Amy:
Maybe she´s in the girl´s room with diarrhea or something!
He looks at her and is slightly disgusted.
Spinner:
Can you check for me?
Amy:
Let me get this straight. You´re putting me on toilet duty now?
Spinner looks at her pleadingly and she gives in.
Amy:
You´d better make this worth my while!
She heads off towards the girl´s room.
7. Int. Boiler Room. Evening.
(This scene is a bit R-Rated towards the end, just so you´re warned)
Kendra is leading Toby down to the boiler room. He´s looking a little apprehensive.
Toby:
We should go back to the dance.
Kendra:
We never get the chance to be alone.
They reach the floor and French kiss. She looks very happy with it, to his relief!
Kendra:
Wow! You´re a natural.
Toby:
You like?
Kendra:
Me like a lot! Let´s try it again.
They start kissing again and she moves his hand up to her breast. He stops and moves away from her.
Toby:
Kendra, I can´t!
She unzips her dress and lets it fall to the ground, leaving her in only her bra, panties and shoes. Toby bites his hand to try to stop himself, as she moves in closer to him.
Toby:
Your brother is gonna kill me!
Kendra:
He doesn´t have to know everything, does he?
Toby:
Good point.
They start kissing again and she begins to undress him.
Toby:
I didn´t bring anything.
Kendra:
We can still do other things.
She grabs his hand and sticks it down the front of her panties. She then sticks her hand down the front of his boxers.
8. Int. Gymnasium. Evening.
Manny is getting her coat from the coat check and is still flustered from what happened. Liberty comes up behind her.
Liberty:
It can be scary, can´t it?
Manny turns around and tries to look, like everything is normal.
Manny:
What can?
Liberty:
Falling for someone, you weren´t supposed to. Not that I´ve tried it for myself per se, but I can imagine, that it can.
Manny:
I´m with Craig! We have a kid, we have plans for our future together! We just set up a joint savings account last week!
Liberty:
But you like JT, don´t you?
She gives it up and Liberty has no trouble reading her face.
Liberty:
And he likes you.
Manny:
Don´t be angry with me, okay?
Liberty:
I´m not angry at you. If anyone can understand why you like him, it´s me. For all his faults and yes, he does have his share of them and then some, he´s still a pretty awesome guy, isn´t he?
Manny:
If you want me to back off, I will. What am I saying? Nothing´s happened yet!
Liberty:
Yet?
Manny:
Not that it will.
Liberty:
The heart wants what it wants, Manny. For what it´s worth and don´t take this the wrong way, I´ve never thought that Craig was the right guy for you. Not just because of how you started out with him lying to both you and Ashley and taking advantage of you lack of experience. It´s because there´s someone else, who we both know would be perfect for you in every way, not to mention be an amazing dad to your daughter. I don´t have to say his name, do I?
Manny:
What about Craig?
Liberty:
I pride myself on being smart, but I can´t give you the answer to that one. Are you coming back to the party?
Just as she says it, the fire alarm goes off. The music stops and Snake comes on stage. He takes a microphone.
Snake:
Everyone, we have a fire alarm. Proceed to the exit in an orderly fashion.
Manny:
I guess not.
The coat check girl quickly comes back with her coat and hands it to her.
Liberty:
Can you get mine?
The coat check girl just shakes her head and leaves them. Liberty looks annoyed.
Liberty:
Wait here a second.
She gets in between the racks and starts searching.
9. Int. Boiler Room. Evening.
Kendra and Toby are quickly getting dressed. He zips her dress up.
Toby:
At least we had the chance to finish! Did you ... ?
She turns around and smiles cheekily at him. He looks delighted.
Kendra:
Let´s go, Tiger!
Toby:
There´s DNA evidence on the floor!
Kendra:
Come on!
She grabs his hand and they hurry out of there.
10. Int. Car. Evening.
Sean is driving Liberty, JT and Manny home. Liberty is in the passenger seat. They´re all wearing their coats.
Manny:
You probably saved us hours of waiting!
JT:
You´re my hero, Liberty!
Liberty:
It´s a dirty job, but someone had to do it!
Sean pulls over to the curb.
Sean:
We have arrived at Casa Jeremiah.
Manny:
Thanks, Sean.
JT:
I´ll get out here and walk home.
Sean:
Are you sure? It´s no trouble.
JT:
I could use some fresh air, after an evening of sweating in that gym.
Liberty:
See you on Monday.
JT and Manny get out and Sean drives on.
11. Ext. Street. Evening.
JT and Manny are saying goodnight.
JT:
I had a great time, even if the evening did get cut short by a fire alarm.
Manny:
Want to try again next time, to see if we get three in a row?
They look at ease again.
JT:
I´ll most likely be single by the next one too, so why not. Unless, you´ll want to take Craig.
Manny:
JT, I felt something tonight and I think, you did too.
JT:
We got caught up in the moment, is all. Maybe mixed with some childhood memories.
Manny:
If things were different ...
JT:
Don´t finish that sentence. You´ll spoil a perfect evening.
He leans in and gives her a kiss on the cheek. It makes her entire body shiver.
JT:
Sweet dreams, Manny. Thanks for making my childhood dreams come true tonight.
Manny:
You weren´t the only one, whose childhood dreams came true.
He smiles at her one last time, before leaving her. She watches him walk away and tries to gather herself.
Manny (to herself):
If only ...
She pushes it away and heads towards the house. She can´t help herself from sneaking one last look at him though, before he disappears from sight.
12. Int. Car. Evening.
We´re back with Sean and Liberty.
Liberty:
Thanks for a fun evening, Sean. This was exactly what I needed!
Sean:
I´m glad to hear it. I´d put this in my top five dances, I´ve been to.
Liberty:
Out of how many?
Sean:
Six. To be fair, I have had a really good time at most of the dances, I´ve been to at Degrassi. Not like the one, I went to in Wasaga.
Liberty:
What happened there?
Sean:
Some kid called me a name and I snapped. We both got kicked out and continued the fight outside, until he ran away.
Liberty:
At least you won the fight.
Sean:
Fighting should only be a last resort. My favorite is still the first one, I went to here and that easily could have ended the same way, if it hadn´t been for Em.
Liberty:
I don´t think, I was there.
Sean:
Jimmy Brooks was trying to get me riled up, by teasing me with being held back. Dumb as I were, I was about to give him what he asked for, when she asked me to dance. It didn´t take many seconds, for me to forget all about Jimmy.
Liberty:
Do you think, you´re soulmates?
Sean:
I´m not sure that I believe in soulmates, but if they exist, then I wouldn´t bet money against it. What about you and mister James Tiberious Yorke?
Liberty:
Twelve year old me was sure, that we were meant for each other. God, how young and naive, I was.
Sean:
We were all that way once.
Liberty:
With me, it became an obsession, because I was so sure, that I was right. He rejected me time after time, but I wouldn´t take no for answer. Even when he was with Paige, I still held onto hope, that he would say "Liberty, you´re the one I want and you always have been".
Sean:
Is that hope gone?
Liberty:
No, but it´s a different kind of hope now. He deserves his chance to be happy with someone else, without me interfering in it. If he finds it, then I´ll be the first one to congratulate him. He deserves that much.
Sean:
What about you?
Liberty:
It´s a big world out there. Who knows, who I might find in it?
She looks out the window and looks at peace with it.
13. Ext. Degrassi. Evening.
Firemen are coming out of the building, while the partygoers wait outside. Kendra is with Spinner and smiles at him.
Kendra:
You really pulled the fire alarm, because you couldn´t find me?
Spinner:
It might have been a little rash. I was worried about you.
Kendra:
You don´t need to be.
Spinner:
I know, but still. Where were you?
Kendra:
Out here, talking to people. I couldn´t take the heat in there anymore.
Spinner:
It was pretty hot, wasn´t it?
Kendra:
Like an oven!
Toby comes back with his and Kendra´s coats. He hands hers to her.
Kendra:
Finally!
Toby:
Amy won´t be long. She was in line right behind me.
A pair of boys pass by them and are laughing among themselves.
Boy #1:
I can´t wait to tell my brother, that some dude blew a load all over the boiler room floor!
Boy #2:
He could have at least done it in the bathroom, like a normal guy would!
Spinner makes a face, as Amy comes back.
Spinner:
Did you hear that?
Amy:
Some of the boys around here are freaks! You´re so lucky, that you found a normal one, Kendra.
Kendra:
You don´t need to tell me.
Kendra and Toby smile knowingly at each other.
Spinner:
What do you say we end the evening with a soda at the Dot? My treat.
Toby:
I can pay, if you want.
Kendra:
Toby, he gets it for free.
Spinner smiles and puts his arm around Toby´s shoulder, to Toby´s surprise.
Spinner:
I´m so glad, that she´s dating a dweeb like you!
Spinner looks happy and is none the wiser.
