WHAT IF - SEASON 2 EPISODE 34 - BAD

1. Int. Darcy´s Room. Evening.
Darcy is praying by the side of her bed, with her arms resting on the bed itself.
Darcy:
Hi, God. It´s been a while since I did this, even though it was my new year´s resolution to do it more often. I´ve strayed far, as far as my morals go for this past year and it´s been eating me up. I´ve been lying to my boyfriend for so long, that it´s become second nature and I don´t want to be that way. I kissed two other guys, while he was away and I´ve been scared ever since he came back, that he´ll find out, because I´m afraid of how he´ll react. I want to tell him and I´m ready to take my punishment, but there´s other people, friends of mine, who could end up getting hurt and I don´t want that on my conscience. Please give me guidance, because I don´t know how much longer it will be, until he finds out on his own. Amen.
She gets up and lies down on her bed, with the frustration and fear painted on her face.
Darcy:
And if you don´t mind, God, could you make it snappy? Preferably so I know what to do by tomorrow, when I have to introduce him to my best friend?
She closes her eyes and shakes her head in frustration.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Hallway. Day.
Rick is talking to Toby, when a smiling Darcy comes over to him.
Darcy:
Hi, handsome!
Toby:
Oh thanks. I didn´t think you´d notice, that I got a haircut!
Rick:
She meant the one, who can reach up to kiss her!
Darcy:
Not that you´re not cute in a Hobbit sort of way, Toby.
She gives Rick a quick kiss. Toby look annoyed.
Toby:
Hobbits are four feet tall and have huge feet!
He walks away, looking insulted.
Darcy:
I didn´t mean it that way, Toby!
Toby pretends not to hear her and keeps walking.
Rick:
He´ll be okay, but I´d watch it with the Tolkien references from now on.
Darcy:
Boys are so fragile! So, are you ready to meet Chantay?
Rick:
I think it´ll be okay. I´ve been mentally preparing myself.
Darcy:
The worst that can happen is that you end up in a boring conversation. You´ll survive it.
Rick:
I hope so. When I was with Terri, this was where it all started to go wrong.
Darcy:
I´m not Terri and you´re not that guy anymore. Plus, we need to extend your social circle beyond Toby and me, if we´re gonna work out in the long run. Chantay is a nice and safe one to start off with.
He looks re-assured.
Rick:
I´ll take your word for it! One last quick kiss, to get me through the next classes?
Darcy:
Okay, since you´re twisting my arm!
She gives him a quick kiss and they head off in different directions. When she´s sure he can´t see her, she looks back on him and sighs to herself.
3. Int. Classroom. Day.
Peter is trying to sell his business scheme to Danny and Derek. Mia and Jane look less than impressed, but he´s got the boys hooked.
Peter:
People are making millions on the stock market every year and the figure keeps going up. It´s time we got in on that action and I´ve found the guy to help us do it!
Danny:
How?
Mia:
Tell him, Peter. I´m sure that this will knock their socks off!
Peter:
I found him on-line ...
Derek:
You gotta be kidding!
Peter:
I did hours of research to check out, if the guy was legit. He is.
Danny:
What about the fact that we´re under 18?
Peter:
That´s the brilliant part of it! We don´t actually buy the stock! He buys it for us along with a bunch of other investors and pays us back the profit, minus a ten percent commission for himself. Plus, think about it. Why would he want to cheat us, if he can make money off us month after month?
Jane:
Wake up, Peter! It´s got scam written all over it!
Danny:
Not so quick!
Peter:
The guy guarantees, let me repeat that, guarantees a minimum payoff of two hundred percent a month! This is the easiest money, we´ll ever make!
Derek:
I´m in!
Jane:
Hold on! A moment ago, you were all against it!
Derek:
If this guy can make the money in my account grow by two hundred percent a month, then he can have it to play with!
Danny:
I´m convinced too!
The two girls colectively shake their heads at them.
Peter:
You won´t regret it. Mia and Jane however will, when they see us flashing our massive profits!
Jane:
We´re more likely to see you flashing your b-hinds!
Mia:
Is this even legal?
Peter:
It´s ... a grey area of the law. But from what it said on his website, there´s no actual laws against it, even if it might not be ethically correct.
Jane:
You´re gonna trust what it said on his website? If you guys are gonna be this dumb with your money, then you deserve to lose it!
Peter:
Oh, ye of little faith. I shall shut you up with a giant wad of cash!
Peter and the other boys look positive, while the two girls think they´re being gullible idiots.
4. Int. The Dot. Day.
Darcy is sitting at a table with Chantay, who´s looking a little nervous.
Chantay:
I just know that I´m gonna say something, I wasn´t supposed to!
Darcy:
There´s only two things, you can´t mention. That still leaves every other topic of conversation open!
Chantay:
Do you know why one half of my family currently isn´t talking to the other half? Me and my big mouth!
Darcy:
You´ll do fine. Just relax and be yourself.
Chantay tries to, as Rick comes in. Him and Darcy smile at each other and he comes over to them.
Rick:
Hi, Darcy. Hi, Chantay. It´s nice to finally meet you.
Chantay:
You too. It was about time, we did.
Rick:
I´m getting a drink. Are you guys set, as far as beverages go?
Darcy:
I´ll take a cup of coffee.
Chantay:
A coke.
Rick:
Coke and a coffee. two sugars?
Darcy:
You know me!
Rick heads up to the counter.
Darcy:
See, that went fine!
Chantay:
I don´t know why, but I expected him to be weirder!
Darcy:
He´s just like you and me, only he´s a guy. If you treat him like you would any of the other guys we know, then you´ll be fine.
Chantay:
I should be able to do that!
Darcy looks hopeful, that it´ll go alright.
5. Ext. Street. Day.
Peter and Danny are watching Derek get money out of an ATM. The money comes out and Derek hands it to Peter.
Derek:
That´s all of it. Two hundred and sixty dollars.
Danny:
Just think that this time next month, it´ll be five hundred and twenty.
Peter:
At least!
Derek:
We should order a limo for prom already now! There´s bound to be a run on them.
Peter:
I don´t know about you, but I´m throwing all my money into this. I even told Mia, that she shouldn´t expect any dates that cost money, for the next month.
Danny:
I need some of it back next month for Liberty´s birthday present.
Peter:
We should have the first check by then. Gentlemen, this is a plan, that can´t fail! Are you with me?
He sticks his hand out and the others put theirs on top of his.
Peter/Danny/Derek:
Woooooow, MONEY!
They fist bump and look happy with the plan.
6. Int. Cafe. Day.
Peter is sitting across from a fancily dressed man in his 40´s, a very professional looking type, who has some papers and a pencil in front of him. Peter is drinking a soda.
Man:
By the way, I´m sorry about these temporary arrangements. My office is currently being rebuilt.
Peter:
It doesn´t bother me.
Man:
Do you want another soda?
Peter:
No, I´d rather get this over with, if that´s okay?
Man:
Time is money, eh? I´ll be brief, then. You´re well aware of the rules, aren´t you?
Peter:
I read them on the website.
Man:
Very good. These papers are your essentially your proof, that you´ve invested money with us. I´ve written the amount on here, two thousand dollars, so all you have to do is sign on the dotted line.
Peter:
Don´t my friends need to sign too? After all, aren´t they also investors?
Man:
One signature is fine. We´ll also need you account number to transfer your returns into.
Peter clearly wasn´t ready for this.
Peter:
I thought you would send us a check every month. The website said that it was an option.
Man:
We used to do that, but it was too expensive and some checks were stolen in the mail. This really is the safest and most reliable way for you to be sure, that your money will get to you on time, month after month.
Peter:
Okay, then.
The man hands him a pen and the papers. Peter gets his account card out from his wallet and writes the numbers on there.
Peter:
Do you need the three digit code on the back too?
Man:
Yes, we do.
Peter turns the card over and writes the numbers down on the paper.
Man:
Now all we need is your signature and you´re on your way to a wealthier life, Mr. Stone.
The man smiles at him in a friendly way, that makes Peter feel safer about the deal. He signs it and hands the man his papers and pencil back, that the man stuffs in his briefcase.
Man:
May I say, it´s been a pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Stone. Good day.
Peter:
Say, when am I going to hear from you again?
Man:
When a large sum of money is deposited into your account on the first of next month. It´s been a very profitable one, from what I hear.
The man leaves and Peter takes a sip of his soda. He looks like he´s on top of the world right now!
7. Int. The Dot. Day.
Darcy is looking relieved that Rick and Chantay to her surprise are getting along splendidly!
Rick:
You like the Dragonlance novels?
Chantay:
Why is that such a surprise? They have romance, excitement, magic and all that great stuff! Don´t think that I never imagined myself being the Golden General and riding on my dragon, when I was a kid!
Rick:
I thought that they´d be too nerdy, for a girl like you.
Darcy:
What kind of girl is that?
She makes eye contact with him, as he tries to come up with a good answer.
Rick:
You know, the popular types.
Chantay:
Me, popular?
She can´t help herself from laughing a little.
Rick:
You´re on the spirit squad, aren´t you?
Darcy:
Being on the squad doesn´t naturally mean, that you´re popular.
Rick:
I thought, it did.
Chantay:
So, Rick. Have you read the "Song of Ice and Fire" novels?
Rick:
Actually, I just started on them. They´re addictive, aren´t they?
Chantay:
Oh, yeah!
Darcy smiles to herself, as she gets up from her seat.
Darcy:
I can see, that I can safely leave you two alone for a moment. More drinks?
Chantay:
Yes, please!
Rick:
I can pay, if you want.
Darcy:
Who of us in the one, who has a job?
Rick:
Good point!
She gives him a kiss on the cheek and heads up to the counter, where Spinner is working.
Darcy:
Another round, my good gentleman!
Spinner:
As you wish, my lady!
They smile at each other, as he gets to work.
Darcy:
How are things going with you and Jane?
Spinner:
Ask her. I have no idea! Rick looks like he´s grown some social skills, since ... well, you know.
Darcy:
I was afraid, that I´d have to carry the entire conversation by myself, but it´s going better than expected.
They hear Chantay and Rick laughing, which pleases her.
Spinner:
You´re not worried, than you´ve stuck your hand in a hornet´s nest?
Darcy:
Why would you say that?
Spinner:
They look very friendly to me. In fact, if I didn´t know better, I´d think that they were here on a date.
He puts the first drinks on the counter, as Darcy watches them. There´s no doubt that Spinner is right, which worries her a little.
8. Ext. The Dot. Day.
Rick and Darcy kiss goodbye, while Chantay looks away from them. She gets a small hug too, that makes Darcy a little jealous.
Rick:
I didn´t think it would be, but this has been the most fun afternoon, I´ve had in a long time.
Chantay:
Same here. Now, I don´t know why I was so afraid to talk to you.
Rick:
Let´s make sure, that changes from now on.
Chantay:
Agreed!
His mom pulls up in her car.
Rick´s Mom:
Hi, kids!
Rick looks a little embarrassed.
Rick:
We´re not kids anymore, mom! We´re young adults now!
Rick´s Mom:
You´re still kids in my eyes.
Rick:
So much for me trying to be cool!
Darcy:
I wish, I could go with you, but I have work.
Rick:
We´ll hang out tomorrow. No biggie.
He gets in the car and waves at the girls, as him and his mom drive off. Chantay is all smiles.
Chantay:
I´m not afraid to say when I was wrong and this was definitely one of them!
Darcy:
Do you like him?
Chantay:
Of course, I do! If you hadn´t gotten to him first ...
Darcy looks annoyed.
Darcy:
Is this something, I should tell Danny about?
Chantay:
Chill! I respect when a man is kept, especially if it involves my best friend.
Darcy doesn´t look completely convinced.
9. Int. Peter´s Room. Evening.
Peter is looking over guitars in a guitar magazine and is trying to make his mind up on which one to buy, when his phone rings. He picks it up and puts it to his ear.
Peter:
Hey. I was afraid that you´d still be mad at me.
Mia (voice over):
I wasn´t mad at you, even though you were walking a fine line!
Peter:
I had to, for the guy´s sake! I´ll make it up to you the next time we´re alone together.
Mia (voice over):
Have you seen the news?
Peter:
I never watch the news. They´re too depressing.
Mia (voice over):
I would today, if I were you. You haven´t given them the money yet, have you?
Peter:
Yeah, a few hours ago.
Mia (voice over):
Then I´d do it right away, if I were you! See you tomorrow.
She hangs up on him and he turns his TV on. There´s a major car pile up, that appears to be the major story of the evening.
Newscaster (voice over):
As you can see, it looks like the roads department will be busy all night. We´ll have more information on when the road can open again, as we get it.
They cut back to the newscaster.
Newscaster (voice over):
In other news, the Toronto Police Department tonight issued arrest orders for Barry Holmes, recently disbarred lawyer and his wife Angela Schrute, a former stock market trader, for a Ponzi scheme, that by the police´s acoounts has defrauded hundreds if not thousands of people, mainly from the Toronto area. They got in contact with these unfortunate people through their website, which the Police are have now shut down. They´re asking for anyone who has been in contact with the pair to contact the Police as soon as possible. They are as of now considered fugitives from the law. Marlena, what can you tell us about the weather tomorrow?
They cut to Marlena, their weather girl, but Peter turns it off so that he can facepalm in peace.
10. Int. Little Miss Steaks. Evening.
Darcy is working, when a flustered looking Chantay comes in and walks over to her.
Chantay:
I´m so sorry, Darcy!
Darcy:
What for?
Chantay:
I ...
She doesn´t get to say anymore, until an angry looking Rick comes in.
Rick:
You cheated on me with two guys, while I was away?
Darcy looks embarrassed, since all of the customers are now looking at her.
Darcy:
Rick, this isn´t the time or place.
Rick:
You don´t think that your employer should know, that his waitress is a cheating slut? You and me are done!
He storms out of there.
11. Ext. Street. Evening.
Darcy is hurrying up the street, while Chantay tries to keep up with her.
Chantay:
Will you at least talk to me?
Darcy turns around and looks her in the eyes.
Darcy:
Then walk me through how we got from hanging out, the three of us, to me now being single and unemployed!
Chantay:
I didn´t mean for it to happen, I swear.
Darcy:
When did you even talk to him?
Chantay:
I called him. It was just to talk about books.
Darcy starts to get angry with her.
Darcy:
Yeah, right!
Chantay:
It was! But then the conversation started drifting and it came out. I feel terrible.
Darcy:
Don´t ever talk to me again, Chantay! I mean it!
She storms off, while Chantay tries to gather herself.
12. Int. Hallway. Morning.
A guilt ridden Peter is breaking the news to Danny and Derek, who look none too pleased with him.
Peter:
All I can say, is that I´m really sorry. I should have told myself, it was too good to be true.
Danny:
My dad is gonna kill me!
Derek:
Mine is gonna lock me in my room, until I leave for college!
Danny:
I´m broke! That was every cent, I owned.
Derek:
We might as well have flushed it down the toilet.
Peter:
If we´re lucky, then we´ll get it back, when they catch them.
Danny:
Get real! They´re probably living it up in the Carribean for the money, we willingly gave them.
Peter:
I´ll find a way to make it up to you, when I find out how.
Rick comes over to them to their surprise.
Rick:
Who of you is Peter and who is Danny?
Derek:
Those two!
Derek sees the danger, as Rick stares them down with a face full of anger and hurries away.
Rick:
Did you know that Darcy had a boyfriend, when you made out with her?
Danny:
Yeah.
Peter looks at Danny, clearly not knowing what Darcy did with him.
Peter:
What?
Danny:
It was just one kiss. Nothing more happened.
Peter:
When was this?
Rick:
You can settle this later.
He punches Danny right in the mouth, making him fall backwards.
Rick:
That´s my matter with you settled.
Peter:
I had no idea, I promise!
Danny holds his lip, that´s bleeding.
Danny:
He knew.
Peter tries to defend himself, but isn´t fast enough and soon he´s on the floor next to Danny. A teacher comes rushing over to them.
Teacher:
Stop this, right now!
Rick:
I´m done here.
He calmly walks away, as the teacher tends to Danny and Peter.
13. Int. Nurse´s Office. Morning.
Danny and Peter are in front of Hatzilakos, who looks mad at them.
Hatzilakos:
With the new no tolerance policy, I have no choice except to suspend the both of you for the rest of the week.
Peter:
We´re the victims here!
Hatzilakos:
Rick will get his punishment too, but he can´t have done it with no reason behind it. What is it?
The boys look at each other and see that they might as well tell her.
Peter:
I made out with his girlfriend.
Danny:
I did too.
Hatzilakos rolls her eyes at them.
Hatzilakos:
Which girl would this be?
Peter:
Darcy Edwards.
Hatzilakos:
Once you´re done here, I want you to go straight home. We´ll discuss your further punishment later. If you´ll excuse me, I need to have a talk with miss Edwards about where infidelity can lead to.
She leaves them. Peter can´t help laughing a little at the situation.
Peter:
How do you think she´ll react, when I throw the money I lost on top of it?
Danny:
Probably the same way, my dad will.
Peter:
I never would have lost your money on purpose.
Danny:
I know. I´m sorry that I made out with Darcy, while you and her were still in limbo, or whatever you want to call call it. It really was only one kiss, nothing else happened.
Peter:
Bro´s before Ho´s?
They fist bump on it.
Danny:
Why do girls have such a power over us?
Peter:
It comes down to one word. Boobs!
The two boys laugh it off.
14. Int. Hallway. Morning.
Darcy is by her locker, when an apprehensive Chantay comes over to her.
Chantay:
Are you still mad at me?
Darcy:
Kind of.
Chantay:
At least you´re talking to me, so I´ll take that.
Darcy:
After I had a chance to cool down, I realized that it isn´t your fault, what I did.
Chantay:
I was only trying to become friends with him. Maybe, if I talk to your boss, you´ll get your job back.
Darcy:
Don´t bother. No one there will look at me the same way again anyway.
Toby comes over to them. He looks worried.
Toby:
Have you seen Rick?
Darcy:
Haven´t you heard? He dumped me.
Toby:
That could explain it.
Chantay:
Explain what?
Toby:
He´s been missing since this morning.
Darcy and Chantay look worried.
