WHAT IF? - SEASON 2 EPISODE 37 - THE GIRL IS MINE

Author´s Note: After the high drama of the last episodes, you´re getting more of a cute and light hearted one this time. I´m dedicating it to what is probably the series biggest Semma fan, AllieB0524. Thanks for all of the many kind reviews you´ve sent and I hope this will be an episode, just to your liking.
1. Int. Hallway. Morning.
JT is sitting next to Emma and is flipping a coin, to decide on a matter. He clearly isn´t happy with the result.
JT:
Argh! Tails 4, heads 2.
Emma:
Ordinary people wouldn´t let a coin decide their future, JT.
JT:
Since when have I been ordinary? Let´s go, heads!
He flips it up into the air and catches it in his hand. Seeing that it´s tails, he flips it over on his other hand. Emma giggles.
Emma:
You´re cheating in a game of heads or tails with yourself? Can´t you see, how crazy that is?
JT:
I don´t want to be the kind of boyfriend, who can be seen as possessive!
Emma:
You know that I´m Team Manny all the way. Considering her past however, I don´t think anyone can blame you, for being a little worried.
They see Manny coming towards them, chatting with Sean. They look like, they´re getting along splendidly and neither Emma or JT are too happy about it. They do their best to hide it though.
Sean:
Hey, party people!
Manny:
Throw your hands in the air and wave ém, like you don´t care!
Her and Sean both laugh, but Emma and JT don´t get it.
Emma:
What´s funny?
Sean:
You had to be there. Manny did this silly dance, that made me laugh ...
Manny:
He laughed so hard, that I was afraid, he would choke to death!
JT:
Now you have in-jokes. How nice.
Manny smiles at him and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Manny:
Are you jealous?
JT:
No!
Sean:
I would understand it, if you are. You don´t meet girls like Manny every day.
Emma gets a little jealous too.
Emma:
What about me?
Sean:
You´re great too! Just in a different way.
Manny:
Before I forget, I can´t hang out tonight. I have to help Sean study.
Sean:
You don´t mind, if I borrow her, do you, JT?
JT:
Of course not.
He tries his best to hide his jealousy, as does Emma.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Classroom. Morning.
Emma takes a seat next to Manny. She isn´t looking too pleased with her.
Emma (whispering):
What´s the story with you and Sean?
Manny (whispering):
Why, whatever are you talking about?
Emma (whispering):
The in jokes, the constant smiling, not to mention the clear and obvious chemistry, you guys have!
Manny smiles at her.
Manny (whispering):
Do you think, me and Sean have chemistry?
Emma (whispering):
Don´t even consider it!
Manny (whispering):
I have no clue, what you´re talking about!
Her answer only makes Emma more worried.
3. Int. Hallway. Day.
Manny and Sean are talking.
Sean:
Is it working?
Manny:
She is as jelly, as they come! If you ask her out now, then she´s sure to say yes.
Sean:
Thanks for doing this for me.
Manny:
It´s not just for you. If this is what it takes, to get her to wake up, then that´s how it has to be.
Sean:
I have to give it to JT. He´s a better at pretending, than I am.
Manny:
Am I mean, to do this to him?
Sean:
Let me tell you something, you might not know about guys. We´re all complete idiots, when it comes down to it!
Manny giggles.
Manny:
Even Albert Einstein?
Sean:
When he was our age, he was just as clueless about girls, as most boys are and that whole thing with sending signals, don´t bother with it. Most of the time, we need it spelled out in huge, capital sized, rainbow colored letters, for us to get it! Preferably with some grand demonstration to drive the point home, just so there´s no way, we can miss it.
Manny:
I´ll keep that in mind for future reference.
Sean:
If this is what it takes to make him see, that he´s with the second biggest catch in the world, then the ends justify the means.
Manny:
How long do we have to keep it going?
Sean:
Only until Emma calls me out on it, I promise. You don´t mind, do you?
Manny:
If it helps my best friend to find love and eternal happiness, then it´s a small sacrifice!
They smile at each other.
We cut to Paige and Mia. Paige is trying to explain something to Mia, but can´t keep her eyes off Manny and Sean.
4. Int. Cafeteria. Day.
Paige and Hazel are in line for food.
Paige:
Guess who Canada´s biggest slut, has sunk her talons into now?
Hazel:
Heather Sinclair?
Paige:
I meant the other one. Miss Manuella Santos, esquire!
Hazel rolls her eyes.
Hazel:
Paige, your whole obsession with JT was cute last year, when he was your boyfriend. It´s starting to become sad, that you can´t get over him.
Paige:
This has nothing to do with that!
Hazel looks her in the eyes and isn´t convinced.
Paige:
Okay, so maybe it has a teeny, tiny little bit, to do with it!
Hazel:
Who has young Santos been flirting with this time?
Paige:
Sean Cameron.
Hazel can´t help laughing a little.
Paige:
I saw them talking! I know flirting, when I see it.
Hazel:
And I know a sad girl, who needs to find herself a boyfriend, stat! Like it or not, you´re not JT´s guardian angel and you need to butt out of this.
Paige:
Like who? There literally isn´t one guy here, I´d like to go out with! Plus, I´m leaving for college in like three months, so what would even be the point of starting something?
Hazel:
Perhaps what you need isn´t a boyfriend, just someone to, you know, pass the time with in a horizontal way?
Paige doesn´t look dismissive of it.
5. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
JT and Emma are hanging out. She´s in disbelief.
Emma:
I can´t believe, she would be such a ho!
JT:
What about your so-called Romeo, with his annoying good looks and big muscles, the rest of us can only dream of having?
Emma eyes him.
Emma:
Are you sure, you don´t have a crush on him? It sort of sounds that way!
JT:
Positive! Guys are dogs. I have no idea, why you girls want anything to do with us.
Emma:
Not all of you. You and Toby aren´t dogs.
Her words comfort him a little.
JT:
Thanks, Em.
Emma:
Girls aren´t always great either, believe me! That whole "We´re made of sugar, spice and everything nice", doesn´t hold up in the 21st century!
JT:
If it ever did. What are we gonna do?
Emma:
You could try to scare him off.
JT laughs at it and she too can´t stop herself.
Emma:
Okay, so maybe that wasn´t the best plan ever!
JT:
I can´t sit around and do nothing, while he steals her away from me.
Emma:
Listen to us! We´re probably over reacting, to what is essentially nothing.
JT:
Do you want to find out the hard way?
Emma:
Not really.
JT:
What we need is a plan and a fantastic one at that.
Emma gets an idea.
Emma:
What if we flirted in front of them? Just to gage their reaction.
JT:
It´s better than anything, I can come up with!
They fist bump on it.
6. Int. Hallway. Day.
Manny is getting things out of her locker, when she sees JT and Emma laughing and coming towards her. She smiles at them.
Manny:
Hi, guys! Where were you all lunch break? I looked for you.
Emma:
We needed a little alone time. You don´t mind, do you?
Manny´s smile fades.
Manny:
Since when do you guys need alone time?
JT:
It´s no big deal, is it? You have a close friend of the opposite sex in Sean and I have one in Em.
Emma:
JT is so funny! I haven´t laughed that hard in ages!
JT:
You should have been there.
Manny:
Now I kind of wish, I had been.
JT:
You can join us tomorrow, if you´re not too busy with Sean. Later, girls. I gots to tinkle!
He gives Emma a hug, that in no way escapes Manny´s eye, before giving Manny a kiss on the cheek and leaving them.
Emma:
I can´t wait for tonight!
Manny looks slightly pissed off.
Manny:
What are you doing tonight?
Emma:
I´m learning to massage. JT offered to be my test boy.
Manny:
As in him with his shirt off and your hands rubbing all over his naked body?
Emma:
I was thinking more in the line of a loin cloth for him!
Manny´s head looks like, it´s about to explode.
Manny:
That´s not okay, Em!
Emma:
Why not? If you and Sean can hang out all the time, how is this different?
Manny:
For one thing, Sean isn´t mostly naked, when we study!
Emma:
Maybe I should be mostly naked too. Otherwise, it could get weird for him!
Manny:
It´s already too weird! Jeez. Em!
She storms off, as Emma smiles at her reaction.
7. Int. Shop Class. Day.
Manny comes into shop class and gets a few whistles from some of the boys in here. Sean notices her too, as the teacher stops her.
Teacher:
You can talk to your boyfriend, after class is over. Don´t you have your own class to get to?
Manny
This is very important.
Boy:
Did you knock up another one, Sean?
Sean:
Shut yer trap!
The teacher looks seriously at Manny.
Teacher:
Are you pregnant?
Manny:
Can I just talk to him for two minutes, please?
Teacher:
I suppose so.
Sean comes over to them.
Teacher:
You get five. Take it outside.
Manny leaves with Sean, with both of them getting plenty of cat calls of the way.
8. Int. Hallway. Day.
Manny and Sean come out of the classroom.
Manny:
We have a code red!
Sean:
Explain.
Manny:
Emma wants to do it with JT!
Sean tries his best not to laugh.
Sean:
You came to this hilarious conclusion how?
Manny:
She´s giving him a massage tonight!
Sean:
That´s why you pulled me out of class? You do know, that every guy in there think we´re doing it now, don´t you?
Manny gets an idea, albeit not a good one.
Manny:
You know what? Tell those guys, that we are doing it! Tell them that we do it ten times a day, for all I care!
Sean:
That sounds like the worst plan, in the entire history of plans! Even Napoleon would look at it like "My plan at Waterloo wasn´t a hit, but at least it wasn´t as bad as that one"!
Manny:
If we need to make them jealous, to make them wake up, then we need to go in a hundred and ten percent! I´m not having my best friend performing, what can best be described as foreplay, on my boyfriend!
Sean:
We could try telling them the truth. Don´t you think, this is getting out of hand?
Manny:
What if they´ve already done it? The thought alone makes me wanna throw up!
Sean:
I´m positive, that they´re not doing anything of that nature. Go to your class, calm down and think this over, before you do anything rash. Agreed?
Manny rolls her eyes and walks away from him.
Manny:
Boys don´t understand anything!
Sean (to himself):
You can say that again!
He heads back into the classroom.
9. Int. Library. Day.
Hazel is trying to read a book, when Paige sits down across from her.
Paige:
You have to hear the latest!
Hazel (whispering):
Could you say it a little louder, so everyone will hear?
Paige (whispering):
I heard from Marco, who heard from Spinner, who heard from some guys in shop class, that Manny is pregnant with Sean´s love child!
Hazel (whispering):
No way! Although, it does sound like something, she would do!
Paige (whispering):
This is like two years ago all over again, only this time she´s playing two guys.
Hazel (whispering):
Maybe she´s trying to re-align the universe!
Paige (whispering):
It´ll end with people getting hurt again. Doesn´t she ever learn?
Hazel (whispering):
It´s third hand information. We both know how stories travel around here. There´s not an ounce of truth left, once it´s passed through two sources.
Paige (whispering):
I have to tell JT.
Hazel (whispering):
You can´t help yourself, can you?
Paige (whispering):
Don´t you hate girls like her? She so fake with her innocent smile and all the while, she´s a total slut. It´s girls like her, that give the rest of us a bad name! God, I hate her!
Hazel rolls her eyes at the whole situation.
10. Int. Classroom. Day.
Snake is running English class, with among others Emma, JT, Manny and Sean there.
Snake:
Does anyone want to read their poem to the class?
Emma raises her hand.
Emma:
I do! I do!
Snake:
Emma, you have the floor.
She comes up in front of the class.
Emma:
It´s called "The Man of My Dreams".
Snake:
Catchy title! Let´s hear it.
Emma:
"Isn´t it funny, how you can see someone every day, yet not see them at all?
That´s the way I was, until this past fall.
When a friend emerged as someone, I could count on
And I finally saw him as someone, to whom I could run
It doesn´t make a difference to him, if I´m happy or blue
He can always cheer me up and help me find out what to do
He´s the man of my dreams, even if he doesn´t know it
Someday soon, I´ll find a way to show it"
She smiles at JT and Manny is so upset, that she doesn´t know how to react. Sean is frustrated too.
11. Int. Hallway. Day.
Hazel is talking to Chantay, when Paige comes rushing over to them, looking like her head is about to explode.
Paige:
This day is getting crazier by the minute!
Chantay is immediately very interested.
Chantay:
Any good gossip?
Paige:
You tell me. A girl, we´ll call her girl A, is pregnant with her best friend´s ex´s lovechild.
Hazel:
Allegedly.
Paige:
Meanwhile, her best friend, who we´ll call girl B, just professed her undying love for girl A´s boyfriend in a poem in English class! Right in front of the other two!
Chantay:
Oh ... my ... God! I love this school sometimes!
Hazel:
Who told you this?
Paige:
A very reliable source. This has reached levels of absolute insanity!
Chantay:
What are you gonna do?
Paige:
Tell all four of them, that they´re crazy! Someone clearly has to!
She storms off.
12. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
JT is trying to catch up with Manny, who looks like she´s mad at him.
JT:
Manny, come on!
Manny:
If you want to bump uglies with Emma, go ahead! See if I care!
JT:
I don´t want to bump uglies with her!
Manny:
You´re such a liar! Leave me alone!
She storms off, leaving him standing there. Sean passes by him.
Sean:
Jerk off!
He bumps his shoulder into him deliberately, as he walks off. Emma comes over to him.
Emma:
That worked well!
JT:
Did I just get dumped?
Emma:
I hope not. That poem was probably what sent her over the edge.
Paige is next to come over to them and she´s clearly angry with them.
Paige:
You two! I don´t even have the words!
Emma:
How do you know?
Paige:
So, it is true? Emma, how can you do that to Manny? Even if she is pregnant with Sean´s child, you broke up months ago! Going after her boyfriend for revenge, makes you a stone cold bitch!
JT and Emma look shocked.
JT:
Say what?
Paige:
She hasn´t told you? Why doesn´t that surprise me?
Emma:
She´s pregnant with Sean´s child?
Paige:
All of you need to sit down and talk it out like adults! You´re not in grade seven anymore!
She storms off, leaving Emma and JT nothing short of flabbergasted.
13. Int. Emma´s Room. Day.
Emma is staring out into empty air, while JT tries to make sense of it all.
JT:
How? When?
Emma:
Do I need to draw you a picture?
JT:
I can´t believe, that she would actually do it with Sean, of all people!
Emma:
Me neither. Maybe from him, but not from her!
JT:
It has to be a mistake. If she was pregnant, wouldn´t there be signs?
Emma:
She did an amazing job of hiding it, the first time around.
JT:
I have to hear it from her first, until I allow myself to believe it!
Emma:
We should do it, right here and now, to get back at them!
She moves in closer to JT and puts her arm around him. He isn´t sure how to react.
JT:
Em ...
Emma:
I still have a few condoms left over. They expire, don´t they?
JT:
They do, but let´s cool it for a moment!
Emma:
Why should we, when they didn´t? Come on, JT. Let´s give them something to really cry over!
She´s about to take her shirt off, when he stops her.
JT:
To be clear, if the circumstances were different, I would have. You´re a total fox, there´s no denying that! But revenge and expiration dates aren´t a good reason to throw away years of friendship, for an hour or two of carnal lust!
He makes eye contact with her and she sees, how crazy she´s being.
Emma:
We should try talking to them first, before we do anything, shouldn´t we?
JT:
Preferably, yes.
She can´t help smiling to herself.
Emma:
I´m a total fox, huh?
JT:
Don´t let it go to your head!
Emma:
Two hours? Manny is a lucky girl! Sean´s never lasted more than fifteen minutes.
JT:
That actually helps a little. What do you say, we call them and try to set up some sort of meeting?
Emma:
It´s a better plan than mine was.
They smile at each other.
14. Int. Sean´s Apartment. Evening.
All four of them laugh at the whole thing.
Manny:
You seriously believed, I was pregnant with Sean´s child?
Emma:
It´s not like it was completely unthinkable!
Sean:
There´s nothing going on between you two?
JT:
Not more than usual.
Emma whistles to herself, as she looks away.
15. Ext. Street. Evening.
JT and Manny are outside of Joey and Caitlin´s house, kissing goodnight.
Manny:
You had me fooled. I´ll have to get one back on you sometime.
JT:
I get why Sean would do it. Why did you?
Manny:
It was my attempt at getting them back together.
JT:
Is that all?
Manny:
I was perhaps missing some excitement and that may have led me to be more open to suggestion.
JT:
It´s my fault, then.
Manny:
It´s no one´s fault. We´re just past that initial exciting phase, that´s all.
JT:
The last time a girl said that to me, it meant the beginning of the end.
Manny:
Aren´t you glad, I´m not her?
JT:
I´m a little disappointed, that you have to ask.
They go back to kissing.
16. Ext. Degrassi. Morning.
Paige arrives for school with Hazel. They see Manny and JT holding hands and looking very much in love.
Paige:
It looks like, they worked it out.
Hazel:
Which probably means, she isn´t pregnant.
Paige:
You can´t trust anything, people say around here!
Hazel:
It seriously took you all this time, to figure that out? Did you consider what we talked about yesterday, about finding yourself a boy toy?
Paige:
Don´t tell anyone, but I spent most of last night creating a dating profile.
Hazel:
Was it a truthful one?
Paige:
As truthful, as I wanted it to be. I figured, why not? If JT gets to move on and be happy, I should too.
They head inside.
17. Int. Hallway. Morning.
Emma and Sean are flirting, as Manny and JT pass by them. They wave good morning to one another.
JT:
They must be hoping, that the sixth time is a charm!
Manny:
If there´s one thing I´ve learned, it´s that when it comes to those two, nothing is ever for sure!
JT:
Do you know what is?
Manny:
Death and taxes?
JT:
Those things too. What I meant to say, was that I´ll never stop loving you.
Manny:
Can I have that in writing?
JT:
You can have anything, you want. When you´re with me, the world is your oyster.
She´s so happy, that she blushes. He finds it adorable and smiles to himself.
