Work was done for the day, no world-ending catastrophes going on at the moment forcing them to work late, and everyone was milling about the common area after supper, enjoying the peace and quiet that was relatively rare in their line of work.
Simmons had just got up from her side of the couch to head into the kitchen, leaving her husband where he was sitting in the middle of the couch, when Daisy walked into the room and plopped herself down on the opposite side of Fitz so that the English girl would still have her seat when she returned. Turning to look at Fitz, the inhuman just smirked at him for several long seconds, not saying a word, until Fitz finally rolled his eyes and asked, "What is it, Daisy?"
"I heard Jemma telling a few of the new female recruits the story of how she proposed to you," Daisy replied, smirk remaining firmly in place.
"I did propose first when she couldn't hear, but yes, technically she proposed and I said yes," answered Fitz. "Not sure why you're finding that so amusing at the moment, though — you've know that story since we told you we were engaged, and you demanded to know how it happened."
Daisy smirked even harder if that was physically possible for a second longer, before completely switching expressions on a dime and batting her eyelashes sultrily at the Scottish engineer, saying teasingly in her best Jemma voice, "Marry me, Fitz."
Fitz shrugged. "Okay, sure."
As Daisy's jaw dropped open, he looked past her to where Simmons was standing in the kitchen by the fridge talking with Coulson, and shouted, "Hey, wifey! I've apparently got two of you now. Also, when you're coming back in here, can you bring me another beer, please? Love you."
Simmons turned to look at her husband. "Two of me? What does that even mean? You didn't make an LMD of me, did you? Please tell me you aren't making LMDs again. And yeah, I was just about to head back in there."
"Oh, no! No LMDs!" Fitz hurriedly exclaimed. "God no! If I never see another robot in my life it'll be too soon. No, two of you as in two wives — Daisy just proposed to me."
By this point everyone in the common area was staring back and forth between the two scientists, Daisy right along with them in something between horror and embarrassment. She hadn't thought that they would take her seriously when she fake proposed to Fitz to tease him about how the girl had had to be the one to propose in their marriage, but now she was honestly having a hard time telling. And when it came to that, did she actually want them to be kidding? She certainly hadn't been serious when she'd said it, but….
"Oh — okay. As long as you're not building robot girlfriends again," replied Simmons. "Question, though — what does this make Daisy and I? Like are we engaged now too, or is this just between you two? And if it is just between you two, will she still be moving into our room with us in order to live with you?"
"Don't know, she didn't say," answered Fitz. "But I guess that's really up to you two, whether you want to get married or not. Unless of course she really meant 'Marry me, FitzSimmons', and I just happened to be the only one of us in the room when she asked. Although if that's the case, I guess I really should have asked you before I said yes for both of us."
"Oh, it's fine," waved off Simmons, opening the fridge door to grab the beers. "I'll marry her, too, that's no problem."
Closing the fridge again, Simmons walked back into the living room part of the common area carrying three beers. She handed one off each to Daisy and Fitz, before dropping back down into her spot on the couch, opening her beer and leaning into Fitz's side, joining Daisy in making a Fitz sandwich.
Sensing that nothing more was going to be said of this strange interaction/joke between the BUS Kids, everyone soon returned to their previous conversations, leaving FitzSimmons and Daisy alone, sipping their beers in comfortable silence. Even though Daisy had no clue what was actually going on between her and them now, she still couldn't help but be content sitting next to them, leaning into Fitz's side and resting her head on his shoulder.
Once everyone else had finally drifted off to bed a while later, Daisy pulled her legs up under her and turned sideways to face her favorite British lab nerds.
"Um…about earlier…" she said slowly.
FitzSimmons simply looked back at her patiently, unreadable expressions on their faces, not making her job any easier. So after a second, she blurted out, "Are you fucking nuts?!", before slapping her hand over her mouth as she realized she'd actually said it out loud and not just in her head like she'd been doing on nonstop repeat ever since this had all started.
"Can't back out now, we already said yes," Fitz replied teasingly. But moving his hand that had been on the back of the couch around her shoulders, to gently run it through her long, wavy hair, he continued on seriously, "But no, seriously, obviously no one's making you actually do it. And no one here listening actually believed it was for real, that it was anything other than us being our normal BUS Kids selves."
"But you actually were serious if I was?" asked Daisy, unconsciously leaning into his hand.
"Fitz has had a crush on you ever since we met you, and I find you attractive as well if you're into that or want to try it out with me," answered Simmons. "But if you just want to marry Fitz and not me, and keep your marriage completely separate from his and mine, there's plenty of Fitz to go around for the both of us, especially with our extremely hectic and constantly changing schedules. We can both find plenty of time to spend alone with him, and him with each of us, since we all work such different hours. But if you do want to marry us together, then that won't even be a concern, as there will be no need to find separate times unless we just feel like only being with one person at a particular time. And that would go for you and I as well, not just each of us with Fitz."
"But just because we're serious, doesn't mean that we're trying to pressure you into actually becoming engaged to me or both of us," added Fitz. "I know you weren't serious when you proposed, that you were just teasing me about how I got engaged to Jemma, but we are serious about marrying you if you do actually want to do it."
Daisy looked down at her hands that she'd started twisting in her lap, before eventually, still looking down at her hands, saying quietly, "I've never thought about it before, but I kind of want to now that it's been proposed — pun intended. You're my best friends, and I see every day how perfect you guys are for each other, which means if you both want to marry me as well, then you must think I'd be pretty good with you guys, too, or you wouldn't risk your perfect marriage to add me. So yeah, I think I want to — both of you together."
"Then be engaged to us, and everything that entails, and you can make sure you really want it before we start planning a wedding," said Simmons. "But we're happy to have you and we know you'll like it, too."
Fitz however decided to take a less verbal approach, and cupped the younger girl's cheek in his palm forcing her to look up at him, before leaning forward to press his lips against hers, softly at first but quickly increasing in intensity as Daisy responded. By the time he pulled back a minute later they were both panting lightly, and he moved his hands down to take hers that were still in her lap.
"Let's move this to our room where we'll have a little more privacy and can begin exploring this properly."
