WHAT IF - SEASON 3 EPISODE 3 - LUCKY TOWN
Disclaimer: I don´t own Degrassi or the characters from it.
1. Int. Paige and Ashley´s Dorm Room. Evening.
Ashley and Paige are getting ready to go out, or rather Ashley is, while Paige is busy with her school work.
Paige:
Two more minutes, Hon.
Ashley:
You´ve been saying that for over an hour. Put the books away and put some make-up on in stead!
Paige:
Can´t I pass? I´m afraid that I´ll fall behind, if I stop studying for an evening.
Ashley:
You have to come with me! I still only know two people here, you and Andy. I promised him, that we´d come and see his band play tonight.
Paige gives in and puts her books away, being also a little curious about this "Andy".
Paige:
Who´s Andy?
Ashley:
You haven´t met him? He works down at the campus cafe.
Paige:
I haven´t had time to go down there yet. Is he cute?
Ashley:
Kind of a babe, actually. I´m sure that you guys will hit it off instantly. He´s very out-going and easy to talk to, just like you are.
Paige is looking more sold now.
Paige:
One night of ditching the books won´t hurt me!
Ashley smiles at her and doesn´t look too surprised, that she could get her to come.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Campus Cafe. Day.
Paige is working hard on preparing for her next test, when Andy (an, as Ashley also said, very attractive young man of 19 with long blonde hair, that he keeps in a pony tail, when he´s working) brings her a cup of coffee and a slice of pie.
Paige:
I only ordered coffee.
Andy:
The pie is on me. Not that I´m paying for it, so don´t tell my boss. It always helps me to concentrate. Brain food, you know?
They smile at each other and she takes a bite. It makes get go "Mmm", as she closes her eyes to enjoy it.
Paige:
This is great pie!
Andy:
Almost as good as mom´s, isn´t it?
Paige:
Clearly, you´ve never met my mom!
He laughs and there´s a clear vibe between them.
Andy:
I felt like, I should thank you, for being by far the most enthusiastic spectator at our gig.
Paige:
I know great music, when I hear it. Why aren´t you guys out on record yet?
Andy:
You´ll have to ask the record companies. I´d better get back to work, but you should come down and see us rehearse some time.
Paige:
Your bandmates won´t mind?
Andy:
Their girlfriends come down too sometimes. Not that you´re my girlfriend, but you know what I mean. Ashley knows where it is, so just ask her.
Paige:
I certainly will!
Andy:
We rehearse Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, usually starting around seven. Unless we have a gig, of course.
They smile at each other one last time, before both of them go back to their respective jobs. Paige however, can´t help herself from checking out his butt and clearly likes what she sees.
3. Int. Classroom. Day.
The academic quiz team, consisting of Emma, Toby, Rick and Kendra are preparing for their upcoming competition, with Snake helping them to prepare and he has a stack of cards with questions, that they´re likely to be asked.
Snake:
What is the definition of a meter?
Toby bangs on the table.
Toby:
The distance, that light travels in a second.
Snake:
Correct. Which philosopher is famous for the quote "I think, therefore I am"?
Rick bangs on the table.
Rick:
Rene Descartes.
Snake:
Again correct. Who was the head of the British army command during world war 1?
Kendra bangs on the table.
Kendra:
Sir Douglas Haig.
Emma listens intently for the next question, to see if she can get one right.
Snake:
Correct. What is the name of the southern most point of Africa?
Emma quickly bangs on the table, but her mind goes blank.
Emma:
The ... I know this!
Toby:
I can answer it.
Snake:
Give her a second.
Emma:
The ... Cape of Good Hope, that´s it!
Snake:
That´s incorrect. Toby?
Toby:
Cape Aghulhas. The Cape of Good Hope is slightly to the west and further north of it.
Snake:
Correct. Don´t worry, Emma. It´s a common misconception.
He continues with the next question, but Emma is too annoyed with herself to pay any attention to it.
4. Ext. Hallway. Day.
The team come out from the classroom and Emma is looking a little down.
Emma:
Why did I sign up for this? I´ll only embarrass myself.
Rick:
You´ll get one next time.
Toby:
You´re smart in other ways, that we aren´t.
Emma:
Like how? My expertise on "West Drive"?
Rick:
You actually watch that show?
Emma:
What can i say? It´s addictive.
Toby:
You´re an expert on people.
Emma:
Is that another way of calling me a ditzy blonde?
Kendra:
Your hair color has nothing to do with it. You need to study harder, is all.
Their words don´t seem to do much good for her.
5. Int. The Dot. Day.
Emma is sitting by the counter and getting a sympathetic ear from Jane, who´s not too hard at work.
Emma:
There was a time, when I could call myself one of the smartest students in my entire grade. It seems like forever ago.
Jane:
You still are. Compared to me, at least.
Emma:
Name ten punk bands from the 70´s.
Jane:
Let´s see, there´s Television, Iggy and the Stooges, The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Clash, at least as far as their first two albums are concerned, The Ramones, The Dead Boys, MC5, The New York Dolls, Generation X, The Buzzcocks, Sods. Was that ten?
Emma:
Actually, it was twelve. I couldn´t name one. Even you´re smarter, than I am!
She hangs her head in frustration.
Jane:
Being a music nerd isn´t the same as being smart. Unless I become a DJ on a radio station some day, it´s just useless knowledge on something, I´m passionate about.
Emma:
Perhaps that´s the problem. There´s nothing, I´m really passionate about anymore. Not like I used to be about the environment, when I was younger.
Jane:
It´s still bad, isn´t it?
Emma:
Worse than ever. I don´t know, it just doesn´t get my juices flowing, like it used to.
Jane:
It doesn´t have to be something, you´re angry over. It can be anything.
Emma thinks about it and tries to come up with something.
6. Int. Paige and Ashley´s Dorm Room. Day.
Ashley is lying on her bed and reading a book for one of her courses, when Paige comes in, smiling from ear to ear and closes the door behind herself.
Paige:
Best test ever! I nailed it!
Ashley:
Good for you! I´m trying to make heads and tails of this musical theory stuff.
Paige:
I give Andy at least a little of the credit.
Ashley puts the book away and smiles at her.
Ashley:
I told you, that you would hit it off with him. What did he do?
Paige:
Gave me pie and helped me to relax.
She lies down on her bed and smiles back and Ashley.
Ashley:
Did you do it with him already?
Paige:
No! We just talked and he gave me a free slice of pie, for being the world´s best spectator.
Ashley:
You like him, don´t you?
Paige:
I don´t even know him yet. The boy has charisma and the looks to match it, though. I can´t deny that. What do you know about him?
Ashley:
Not all that much. He told me, that he´s from Newfoundland, so there´s that. Also, he´s one those musical geniuses, who can pick up any instrument and learn how to play it in no time, without anyone needing to show him how.
Paige:
I´m not hearing any negatives so far.
Ashley:
You aren´t the only girl, who likes him.
Paige:
That´s alright. I couldn´t imagine, that I would be. Is he single?
Ashley:
He hasn´t told me about a girlfriend, so I guess he is. Are you thinking of asking him out?
Paige:
I´m not sure, if he hasn´t already. He said, that I could come down and watch them rehearse, anytime I wanted to. Is that the same, you think?
Ashley:
I would call it a grey area.
Paige:
You´re probably right. Anyway, why would he want some chubby girl like me, when he probably has his pick of pretty girls to choose from?
Ashley:
You never know, Paige. Some guys like a girl with a some meat on her bones, even the hot ones. I would try it and see where it takes me, if I were you. If it only ends up being a friendship, then so what? At least, you´ll have made a cool friend.
Paige doesn´t look dismissive of it at all.
7. Int. Emma´s Parent´s Kitchen. Evening.
Emma is helping Snake with the dishes after dinner.
Emma:
You´ve done some writing, haven´t you?
Snake:
I did back in college. Not that I had any success with it, but it helps to get the brain cells working in overdrive.
Emma:
Is it hard?
Snake:
Are you thinking of trying your luck on the page?
Emma:
I have plenty of great ideas for stories. What I don´t have is any idea how to get started.
Snake:
You could look up a creative writing course on-line.
Emma:
Don´t they cost money?
Snake:
It can´t be that bad. I can help you find one, if you want.
Emma:
That would be really cool. Thanks.
He hands her the last dish and she wipes it off, before putting it on top of the other clean ones.
Snake:
What kind of stories do you have in mind?
Emma:
Love stories, mainly.
Snake:
There´s also sites, where you can post them anonymously and get feedback from those, who read them. It´s a way to get started, at least.
Emma seems to like the idea.
8. Int. Emma´s Room. Evening.
Emma is sitting in front of her laptop and her fingers are flying so fast across the keys, that the human eye can barely keep up with it.
Emma (voice over):
She knew that it was wrong, but the goosebumps on her entire body told her something completely different. The slight tickling, as his hand slid down her belly and further down under her white cotton panties, made her shiver with joy and pleasure all over. Part of her brain wanted to stop him, knowing all the troubles it would bring the both of them,. But something primal deep within her, stopped her from doing so. In stead, she did the same to him and the feeling of being wanted, when she felt how hard he was, made her long to have him inside of her, like she had never longed for anything before.
Emma:
This is good!
She takes a sip from her cup of tea and continues.
Emma (voice over):
Tonight, she wasn´t the innocent girl, she made the world think, she was. Tonight she would be his and let him do to her tender young body, whatever he wanted to. To hell with what her parents thought of him. She was born to be bad with him in ways, she had only dreamed of in dreams so dirty, that she couldn´t even tell her best friend about them. Now it was time to make all of those dreams come true, in an unbridled orgy of lust and desire, that she would carry with her to her dying day.
She´s getting more than a little hot from writing it.
9. Int. Campus Cafe. Evening.
Paige is sitting at a table and is enjoying another piece of pie, when Andy comes in with three other long haired guys. They smile at each other from across the room and he comes over to her with his bandmates.
Andy:
Hi, Paige. Guys, this is the girl, I told you about. Paige, this is, from left to right, Stone, Jeff and Greg.
Stone:
It´s cool to meet you, Paige.
Greg:
Maybe now Andy will stop ranting about you.
Paige:
I never knew, I was someone worth ranting about!
Jeff:
It´s easy to see, why he likes you.
Andy is a little embarrassed, that his friends "outed him" so soon.
Stone:
I´m getting some coffee.
Jeff:
I´m right there with you, man.
Greg:
I´m still not sure, what I want.
The other three leave them and Andy sits down with her. They smile at each other.
Paige:
You don´t even know me, Andy.
Andy:
I just have a good feeling about you, I suppose.
Paige:
We could try going on a date and see where it takes us?
Andy is clearly a little flattered.
Andy:
I don´t actually date.
Paige:
You have a girlfriend, don´t you? I should have known.
Andy:
It´s not that and it all depends on what you define as a date. If you call grabbing a cup of coffee and a slice of pie down here a date, I can do that, no problem. It´s just that with work and the band, I haven´t had time for a girlfriend in what feels like ages. I´d rather be up-front about it, than lead a cool girl like you on.
Paige:
I can definitely see, where you´re coming from. I only have school to worry over and I feel more than swamped enough, as it is. I knew that it would be harder than high school, but it´s brutal!
Andy:
It´ll get easier, once you find your groove. If you don´t, then they´ll kick you out and you won´t have anything to worry over!
Paige:
Except for becoming a complete and utter failure?
Andy:
There is that. I wouldn´t be opposed to a friendship with benefits, if you know what I mean?
Paige doesn´t get to answer, before his band mates come back with their cups of coffee.
Jeff:
Can you believe, they´ve run out of key lime pie?
Stone:
That´s my evening ruined!
They take a seat at the table with her.
Greg:
So, Paige. Tell us about yourself.
Paige:
What do you want to know?
Andy:
Everything.
She looks glad to be making friends. Maybe even one with benefits!
10. Int. Paige and Ashley´s Dorm Room. Morning.
Paige is in a great morning mood, while Ashley is just waking up and yawns.
Paige:
Have I said today, how much I love college?
Ashley:
You have now. I didn´t hear you come in last night.
Paige:
I met Andy and his bandmates down at the campus cafe. I had so much fun talking to them, that I lost track of time.
Ashley:
That´s nice.
Paige:
Andy gave me a proposal, you could say.
Ashley:
He asked you out?
Paige:
Not exactly. He proposed, that we could be friends.
Ashley:
Better luck next time.
Paige:
With benefits.
Paige seems to like the idea, but Ashley isn´t as on board with it, as she is.
Ashley:
Sex with no strings attached?
Paige:
That´s what it usually means, isn´t it?
Ashley:
Are you sure, it´s a good idea?
Paige:
It´s perfect! I don´t have time for a boyfriend either and a girl needs to have her needs met. Of course, if it evolves to more than that, I wouldn´t mind!
Ashley:
See? You´re already thinking of it, as the start of some grand relationship.
Paige:
No, I´m not! I´m an adult now and I can separate the two.
Ashley:
Because you´re in college doesn´t automatically mean, that you´re an adult now.
Paige:
Whatever! I´m going for it.
Ashley:
What if you fall in love with him and he doesn´t feel the same way? You´ll end up getting hurt.
Paige:
Even if I do, at least I got lots of great sex, with a super hot guy out of it!
Ashley shakes her head at Paige stubbornness, but she can´t ruin Paige´s great mood.
11. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
Emma and Manny are catching some rays, while Manny reads over a print out of what Emma wrote the night before. She makes wide eyes at it, while Emma awaits her opinion on it.
Manny:
Wow, Em! This is ... triple X rated! Maybe even quadrouple x, if that exists!
Emma:
It´s not that bad, is it?
Manny:
I never said it was bad, did I? It´s just a little much for this or any time of the day! You really came up with this?
Emma:
It´s just, you know, some fantasies, I´ve been having. Don´t you have those?
Manny:
Not like these. Mine only go to an R-Rating.
Emma looks disappointed.
Emma:
I´m a total pervert, aren´t I?
Manny:
Maybe. I can´t tell you, what everyone else has fantasies about. There could be money in it, though.
Emma cheers up a little again.
Emma:
You really think so?
Manny:
There´s plenty of perverts out there, who would love it. Have you considered sending it in as a letter to Penthouse, or something to that effect?
Emma:
I guess, I could try it. I just don´t know, if I want to be considered one of those perverts.
Manny:
So, you have an overactive imagination! Did you have fun writing it?
Emma:
Oh, yeah! The words kept coming out of me, faster than I could type them.
Manny:
Then who´s to say, if there´s anything wrong with it? You desperately need to get some, that much is obvious ...
Emma laughs a little.
Emma:
Who knew that this unwanted celibacy could come in handy?
Manny:
Show this to any of the boys here and it won´t be a problem anymore!
Emma gives her a playful nudge.
12. Int. Classroom. Day.
Emma, Kendra and Manny are sitting together, while Ms. Kwan tries to teach them biology. Kendra tries hard not to laugh.
Kendra (whispering):
Can I see it after school?
Emma (whispering):
I guess so.
Manny (whispering):
It´s dirty, with a huge D!
Kendra (whispering):
Emma! I never would have thought that about you!
Emma (whispering):
Who says that I can´t have layers?
They go back to trying to follow the lesson.
13. Int. Hallway. Day.
Emma hands the print out over to Kendra, who quickly stuffs it in her back pack, before anyone can see.
Emma:
You can give it back to me tomorrow.
Kendra:
I´m kind of excited. (whispering) I´ve never read any porn before.
Emma (whispering):
It´s not porn. It´s erotica, I think.
Kendra (whispering):
What´s the difference?
Emma (whispering):
I´m not sure, but I think it´s how dirty it is.
Toby comes over to them.
Toby:
Are you ready to go?
Kendra:
Sure. See ya tomorrow, Em.
Emma:
See ya.
Toby and Kendra head up the hallway together.
Toby:
What were you whispering about?
Kendra:
Nothing, that concerns you.
Toby still looks curious.
14. Int. Kendra´s Room. Evening.
Kendra is reading over Emma´s story and is making wide eyes at it.
Kendra:
You are one perverted girl, Emma!
There´s a knock on the door.
Kendra´s Mom (off screen):
I need your help in the kitchen.
Kendra looks annoyed and puts it away.
Kendra:
Just a moment!
She can´t stop herself from reading just a little bit more first.
15. Int. Paige and Ashley´s Dorm Room. Evening.
Paige is getting snuggly with Andy on her bed and things are getting hot and heavy.
Andy:
You´re sure that Ashley won´t be back soon?
Paige:
She´ll be with her study group all evening.
Andy:
Perfect!
They go back to kissing, but she stops him.
Paige:
Andy, I´m not just one of a lot of girls, am I?
Andy:
Not a lot. I mean, it depends on how many it takes to make up "a lot" to you.
She´s disappointed, but tries to hide it.
Paige:
How many?
Andy:
I´m kidding! The list at the moment extends to one, that being you.
Paige:
Isn´t that what any guy, who has a bunch of girlfriends would say?
Andy:
If you don´t trust me, when I say so and you don´t want to do this, that´s okay. We can just be friends.
Paige takes a second to consider it, but kisses him again.
Paige:
Does that answer your question?
Andy:
Are you absolutely sure?
Paige:
We´re both adults here, aren´t we?
She´s looking very taken with him, that´s for sure!
