WHAT IF? - SEASON 4 EPISODE 2 - KILLER QUEEN
1. Int. Basement. Evening.
JT and Emma are making the basement of Snake and Spike´s house look more homely, for the one who´s about to move in. Emma holds up two posters for JT to choose from, one with Britney Spears and one with the comedy Pop Punk Band Bowling for Soup.
JT:
Definitely the Bowling For Soup one! She´s more likely to use the Britney one to throw darts at!
Emma laughs, as she puts the Britney poster away. They help each other to hang the other one up.
Emma:
I have a feeling, that I´m gonna like this girl!
JT:
She´s not impossible to get along with, from what I remember. Granted, it has been a year or so, since I last saw her.
Emma:
Isn´t it a tiny bit weird to you, that you have a sister, you´ve had so little contact with?
JT:
Our dad did it with our respective mothers and that´s as far as the family ties go. I´ve probably seen her a total of five times, in the 14 years since she was born.
They finish hanging the poster and look it over.
JT:
Maybe listening to some BFS will get her to look more at the positive side of life.
Emma:
It works for you, doesn´t it?
JT:
Every time!
Emma:
Same here!
They smile at each other.
JT:
You´re being such a great friend for allowing her to move in here.
Emma:
Once I told Spike and Snake her sob story, there was no way they were saying no!
They hear a rustling from upstairs and the door down to the basement is opened. Bianca DeSousa comes running down the stairs, looking excited.
Bianca:
This is so much nicer than my old room!
JT and Emma look glad, that she likes it. Bianca is just glad to be there and looks hopeful, that everything will work out for her.
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Basement. Evening.
Bianca and Emma are hanging out and getting to know one another a little better.
Emma:
I know that it´s not much, but it is possible to live down here. I did it for a handful of months, back when I was so pregnant, that I couldn´t get up the stairs to my room!
Bianca:
What did you do with the kid?
Emma:
We gave it up for adoption. Take my word for it, Bianca. Teenage pregnancy is not something you want to go through, so keep those legs tightly pressed together, until you´re absolutely sure, that you´re old and mature enough!
Bianca:
I´m not a virgin, Emma.
Emma tries not to look judging in any way, but Bianca picks up on it anyway.
Emma:
That´s okay. If you felt like you were ready ...
Bianca:
I didn´t, but I had to do it, to be accepted by the gang. If you don´t mind, it´s one of the many things I did with them, that I´d much rather pretend never happened.
Emma tries to take in the shock of what Bianca just told her.
Emma:
I´ve heard about girls, who had to do that. I guess, it´s something that I preferred to pretend wasn´t happening, so I wouldn´t have to think about it.
Bianca:
Emma, we come from way different worlds. The one I came from kinda sucks, but there´s nothing I can do to change anything that happened there now. All I want is to move on, start living a plain and boring teenage life, where I work hard on my studies and the wildest thing that happens to me, is that I make out with some guy at one of those dances, I never went to at my old school.
Emma:
Plain and boring, huh? Do you think, you can do it?
Bianca:
I guess that time will tell, won´t it?
She isn´t looking too sure of it herself.
3. Ext. Degrassi. Morning.
Bianca and Emma arrive for school and meet up with JT and Manny.
Bianca:
Who´s this girl, who´s way too pretty to be your girlfriend, big brother?
JT:
Bianca, I´d like you to meet the love of my life, Manuella, better known as Manny.
Bianca and Manny shake hands.
Manny:
We have met once before, but you were only around seven or eight, so I don´t expect you to remember.
Bianca:
JT´s 11th birthday party?
Manny:
That was either a very good guess or you have a great memory!
Emma:
We should get a move on, Manny. Miss Kwan has been handing out detention slips for being late, like they were candy at Halloween!
Manny and JT kiss goodbye.
Manny:
Try not to get into too much trouble and if you at all can, try to pay attention in class today?
JT:
I´m not guaranteeing anything.
Emma and Manny leave them. Bianca looks at JT with wonder.
Bianca:
How did you get a sweet girl like that, who´s in a completely different league to you and apparently accepts that you´re a total slacker with no goals in life, to be your girlfriend?
JT looks at her teasingly.
JT:
Wouldn´t you like to know?
Bianca:
Did you use the Jedi Mind Control trick on her?
JT:
I won´t say that it was easy, but it helps if you get to know the girl, around six years or so, before you make your move. I´m impressed that you remembered her from my birthday, all those years ago.
Bianca:
It´s the only one, you invited me to.
JT looks apologetic.
JT:
That´s all gonna change now, I promise. From her on out, I´ll start being the older brother to you, that I should have been all along.
Bianca:
It´s not like I´m bearing any grudges, JT. You and your grandmother are the only two members of my family, I´ve never had anything bad to say about. I only hope that the same can be said for at least a few of my new class mates.
JT:
I was worried too, after I got held back a grade, but I´ve made new friends among my current class mates. You can do the same, if you keep believing in it.
She tries to look hopeful for his sake.
4. Int. Hallway. Morning.
JT is heading to class, when Peter comes up to him.
Peter:
I have today´s Trig test. Only five bucks.
JT:
Haven´t you learned anything, Peter? Cheating doesn´t pay!
Peter:
Not unless you´re clever in how you do it! Of course, if you want to stay in high school forever, that´s your call! With your half sister starting here as a freshman now, you could end up being class mates!
JT:
How did you know about that?
Peter:
It´s been all over Face Range, that a gang menber is coming here. Those freshman girls are probably peeing their their pants at the thought of meeting one! Last chance?
JT considers it, but is more worried about Bianca.
JT:
Yeah, sure.
Peter slyly hands JT a piece of paper and JT takes it.
Peter:
You can pay me after school.
Peter leaves him and JT looks the cheat sheet over.
5. Int. Classroom. Morning.
We´re joining the new freshmen for the first time. Marisol Lewis and Katie Matlin are busy gossiping together, while Drew Torres and Mike Dallas are busy teasing Imogen Moreno, by throwing paper balls at her back. Imogen looks annoyed, but tries not to let it get to her.
Marisol:
Do you think that Imogen has gone to first base with a guy?
Katie:
If she did, then she must have paid him to!
Marisol and Katie giggle, knowing very well that Imogen can hear them from where she´s sitting.
Marisol:
She´s such a loser!
Imogen finally gets enough and turns to face them.
Imogen:
Have either of you?
Katie:
Who told you, that you were allowed to exist?
Dallas:
Zing!
Marisol:
What makes you think, we would tell you?
Katie:
Go back to being one with the wallpaper, Imogen. It´s what you do best.
Imogen goes back to sulking and Drew throws a paper ball, that lands right on top of her head and stays there. They all find it hysterically funny and Imogen throws it back in Drew´s face. He pretends to be hurt by it.
Drew:
Dallas, I´m hurt!
Dallas:
Stay with me, Drew! Don´t go into the light!
Marisol and Katie both laugh and it´s clear from the way Katie looks at Drew, that she´s a more than a little sweet on him. All smiles fade thought, when Bianca comes in.
Marisol (whispering to Katie):
That must be her!
Katie (whispering to Marisol):
She looks like a psycho too!
Drew (whispering to Dallas):
A damn sexy psycho!
Dallas (whispering to Drew):
I wouldn´t mind a slice of bad girl, if it comes from her!
Bianca takes a seat and tries not to react to everyone staring at her, like she was an animal at the zoo. It´s clear from the way that Marisol and Katie look at Bianca, that they´ve decided to instantly dislike her.
6. Int. Hallway. Day.
Bianca is getting things from her locker, when Drew walks over to her, trying to look as cool as possible.
Drew:
If no one has said it yet, let me be the first to welcome you to Degrassi.
She looks him over and has him read from moment one. She closes her locker and makes eye contact with him.
Bianca:
I have a half brother, who goes here, you know?
Drew:
So I´ve heard. How does Degrassi compare to your old school?
Bianca:
I haven´t seen anyone get shot yet, so it´s kind of boring in comparison!
Drew makes wide eyes at her answer, which amuses her.
Bianca:
I´m kidding!
Drew:
Oh!
He eases up and feels a little foolish for falling for it.
Bianca:
What´s your name?
Drew:
Drew Torres.
Bianca:
Drew, let´s be completely honest. You decided to talk to me, because you think I´m easy.
Drew:
I wouldn´t never assume that!
Bianca:
Honestly?
He gives in and nods.
Drew:
It had crossed my mind.
Bianca:
I´m so surprised! Here´s a surprise for you. I´m not easy and you´re still too much of a little boy to handle this!
She points at herself.
Bianca:
Find yourself some other girl to practice on, before you´re ready to move up to the big leagues.
She leaves him and he only looks more into her, than he was before.
7. Int. Classroom. Day.
The Juniors are taking their Trigonometry test. Peter and JT are both trying to cheat, while not getting caught. Peter has the answers written on the inside of his wrist in black marker, while JT uses the technique of keeping the cheat sheet hidden under his papers. It seems to work though and none of them get caught doing it.
8. Int. Cafeteria. Day.
JT is having lunch with Emma, Toby and Manny.
Manny:
How did your Trig test go?
Toby:
Ooh, trig! The four letters, that scare you the most!
They make teasing faces at each other, making the girls rolls their eyes.
JT:
Not today, my friend!
Emma:
You actually prepared for a very rare change?
Manny:
You weren´t, while I was looking.
JT:
Let´s just say, I have a feeling, that I´ve finally started to get it.
He´s looking confident, but the others are looking suspicious. Peter comes over to them, looking a little out of it.
Peter:
JT, can we talk for a minute?
Toby:
Is this secret Junior talk, that us seniors aren´t allowed to hear?
JT gets up from him seat.
JT:
Just remember this, Toby. Next year, I can call myself a senior, while you´ll be a freshman again!
Toby:
In college!
JT follows after Peter.
Emma:
You think, he cheated on that test?
Manny:
Absolutely!
Toby:
No doubt about it!
Emma nods in agreement.
9. Int. Cafeteria (Marisol and Katie´s Table). Day.
Marisol and Katie are having lunch too. As always, it´s just the two of them, since none of the other girls like to hang out with them. They see Bianca with her tray, looking around for somewhere to sit.
Katie:
We should invite her to sit with us.
Marisol:
Are you crazy? She´s gonna try to recruit us into her gang!
Katie makes "Are you kidding me?" eyes at Marisol.
Katie:
Mare Bear, there are new born kittens and puppies, who are braver than you!
Marisol:
I won´t be able to say no to someone, who´s as scary as her! I´ll end up in juvie, where some huge girl named Bertha will make me her personal love toy!
Katie:
Where did you get the name Bertha from?
Marisol:
I always pictured, that if it was to happen, then her name would be Bertha.
Katie:
Haven´t you heard of the term "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?". What better way to stop her from stealing Drew from me, than making sure myself, that it doesn´t happen?
Marisol:
Katie Kins, Drew still doesn´t know, that you like him!
Katie:
I´m working up my courage to tell him, okay? In the meantime, I have to stop him from dating anyone else. Her in particular!
Marisol:
You owe me big for this one!
She gets up from her seat and walks over to Bianca, who´s pleasantly surprised that one of the girls is being nice to her. Katie watches them and smiles deviously to herself.
10. Int. Hallway. Day.
JT is talking to Peter, who looks apologetic.
Peter:
You remembered to throw in a few mistakes, so it wouldn´t be obvious, didn´t you?
JT:
Do you take me for an rookie? They would never buy it, if I got a hundred percent on that test!
Peter:
Then you could be in the clear.
JT:
What´s going on?
Peter:
I got the test from my usual source, he just gave me the wrong one by mistake.
JT gets serious with Peter.
JT:
So every answer on there was wrong, is that what you´re telling me?
Peter:
Only around a quarter of them.
JT gets up in Peter´s face and Peter looks scared of him.
JT:
Who else did you sell it to?
Peter:
Danny. Derek.
JT:
Anyone else?
Peter:
A few guys from the basketball team, I don´t know their names. Plus a couple of the cheerleaders and some other girl, who´d heard through her friends. She threatened to tell, if I didn´t sell her a copy.
JT shakes his head in frustration.
JT:
We´re all gonna get suspended! I can forget about graduating next year now!
Peter:
We all need to keep quiet. If they don´t know where it came from, they can´t prove that it existed in the first place, can they?
JT:
Since you sold it to half the students in that classroom, I consider it a highly unlikely scenario!
JT storms away from him. Peter clearly knows how bad this is, from the look on his face.
11. Int. Cafeteria (Marisol and Katie´s Table). Day.
Bianca is getting to know Katie and Marisol, or so it would seem.
Marisol:
Is it true, that you did street robberies?
Bianca:
The others did, but I only did burglaries with my ex.
Katie:
A real life Bonnie and Clyde, huh?
Bianca:
Something like that.
Marisol:
Were you in love?
Bianca looks a bit sad, when thinking about it.
Bianca:
In our own strangely co-dependent and messed up way, we were.
Katie:
Are you still together?
Bianca:
Since he´s in juvie because I ratted all of them out, I somehow doubt that we´re still an item! Not that I´d want to go back to that life.
Marisol:
You´re completely done with the gang life?
Bianca:
It doesn´t lead anywhere good. If I want to have a future that´s better than rustling bars, it´s now or never.
Katie:
You can do it.
Bianca smiles at her.
Bianca:
I wish, I had your confidence.
Katie:
Confidence?
Katie almost has to laugh.
Marisol:
Katie has been crushing on Drew, since they danced together one time in grade seven and she still hasn´t worked up the courage to tell him.
Katie looks shocked that Marisol would blurt it out like that, but Marisol looks like she knows what she´s doing.
Bianca:
In that case, I won´t date him.
Katie:
Does that mean, you were considering it?
Bianca:
He´s cute, but cute boys are a dime a dozen. I won´t get in your way.
Katie looks like she´s starting to like Bianca, in spite of everything.
12. Ext. Degrassi. Day.
Bianca is outside waiting for Emma, after school is over. Dallas and Drew come over to her.
Dallas:
Don´t you have anywhere better to hang out?
Bianca:
This is the place to be! Haven´t you heard?
She smiles at the boys, who both clearly like her A LOT!
Drew:
You could come down to The Dot, once you get bored of this place.
Dallas:
It´s the local hang out, for anyone who´s anyone.
Bianca:
I´ve heard about it, but I´ll have to give it a pass. Since I started out by being behind the rest of you guys, I have a butt load of school work to catch up on.
Drew:
Tomorrow maybe?
Bianca:
Maybe. We´ll see.
He winks at her and Dallas shoots her that winning bright white smile of his, before they leave her. She rolls her eyes at them, after they´ve gone. Emma, Manny and JT come over to her.
Emma:
Making friends already, are we?
Manny:
From what I saw, you could have your pick of those two!
Bianca:
Who says that I want either of them?
JT:
Good call. Find someone who´s smart, like I did.
Bianca:
I´m not in any hurry. Boys have caused me enough problems, as it is!
They walk off together.
13. Int. The Dot. Day.
Katie and Marisol are sitting at a table. Marisol is drinking a milk shake, while Katie is sticking to a bottle of water.
Katie:
Was I the only one, who was starting to like her by the end?
Marisol:
It can´t have been easy, growing up where she did. I still don´t trust her, though.
Katie:
You don´t?
Marisol:
Something tells me, that she´s the kind of girl, who´ll do anything to get what she wants. That doesn´t match up with being trustworthy.
Katie:
I guess not. Do you think, she would go after Drew?
Marisol:
I´ve had to listen to this song and dance for two years! When it began, I had just bought my first training bra!
Katie:
I know!
Marisol:
Dawson´s Creek was still on TV. 7th Heaven was still on TV. Buffy was still on TV! That´s how long ago, it was!
Katie:
Do you only remember history through the WB shows, you watched?
Marisol:
It wasn´t even the CW yet! Wow, that was long ago!
Marisol thinks back on it with bewilderment, while Katie looks annoyed that Marisol can be such an airhead sometimes.
Katie:
It´s easier this way. If he doesn´t know, then I won´t have to worry, that he´ll reject me.
Marisol:
Your kind of logic only makes sense to you!
Drew and Dallas come in, which Marisol notices.
Marisol:
There´s Drew and Dallas. Invite them to sit with us.
Katie:
Now? I haven´t properly prepared for a conversation with him!
Marisol:
You need to prepare first?
Katie:
A little preparation time would be nice!
Marisol shakes her head at Katie´s shyness, when it comes to boys.
Marisol:
You´re so lucky, that I haven´t given up on you!
Katie looks over at Drew and smiles to herself. She´ll be ready some day.
14. Int. Basement. Evening.
Emma is helping Bianca to get caught up with her schoolwork.
Emma:
As you can see, it´s not rocket science.
Bianca:
Not when you put it like that! Thanks for your help, Emma.
Emma:
No sweat. Give me a week or two of extra study time and I´ll have you in shape for the rest of high school.
Bianca smiles at her.
Bianca:
You are so nice and sweet. I mean really!
Emma:
I try to be.
Bianca:
I´m sorry, if I´m over doing it, but this whole being showered with love and positivity thing, isn´t something that I´m used to!
Emma:
I´m just happy, that I can help someone like you, who hasn´t had the cushy life, I have. Compared to what you´ve gone through ...
Bianca:
Don´t sell yourself short. You had to give a baby up for adoption, when you were what, 17?
Emma:
16, actually.
Bianca:
That´s hardcore, even where I come from!
Emma:
My best friend had a kid at 15.
Bianca:
And you don´t think, kids at Degrassi have basically the same problems, that they did at my old school? Some things are the same, no matter where you go.
Emma:
That´s true. Does this mean, that you think you´ll fit in at your new school?
Bianca:
I´d like to think, I already am.
She smiles to herself.
15. Int. JT and Manny´s Room. Evening.
JT and Manny are making out, while trying to be as quiet as possible.
Manny:
JT, not now! We´ll have to wait, until after they´ve gone to sleep!
JT:
They can´t have heard us that last time.
Manny:
Going by how much Angie was giggling, when I saw her afterwards, I´m guessing that they could!
There´s a knock on the door and they separate themselves.
JT:
Come in!
The door opens and Snake is standing there. JT immediately knows, what it´s about and gulps.
CLOSING CREDITS
