WHAT IF? - SEASON 4 EPISODE 25 - DEVIL IN HIGH HEELS PART 1
HI, GUYS. SORRY THAT IT´S BEEN A WHILE, BUT I´VE HAD SOME THINGS GOING ON IN MY PERSONAL LIFE, THAT´S BEEN KILLING MY CREATIVITY LATELY.
SO WHAT I DECIDED TO DO WAS TAKE AN EPISODE, THAT I WROTE FOR A NOW ABANDONED SERIES AND REWROTE IT INTO A "WHAT IF?" EPISODE. THEREFORE THERE´S MANY NEW ORIGINAL CHARACTERS IN IT, SINCE THIS WAS ONE OF THE EPISODES THAT WAS MEANT TO INTRODUCE THEM IN THE ORIGINAL SERIES, I HAD PLANNED. I STILL THINK IT WORKS FINE AS IT´S OWN STAND ALONE STORY THOUGH AND THAT IT WAS TOO GOOD TO END UP ON THE SCRAPHEAP WITH ALL OF MY OTHER ABANDONED STORIES.
HOPEFULLY I´LL SOON GET OUT OF MY CREATIVE RUT AND GIVE YOU QUALITY EPISODES ON A REGULAR BASIS AGAIN, BUT IT HOPE THIS HELPS TO TIDY YOU OVER. I´M RELEASING BOTH EPISODES AT THE SAME TIME, SO BE SURE TO READ BOTH OF THEM, IF YOU WANT THE FULL STORY.
THIS STORY AND THE CHARACTERS OF SCOTT AND VERONICA WERE HEAVILY INSPIRED BY THE SONG "SCOTTY DOESN´T KNOW" BY THE BAND LUSTRA, WITH VERONICA ORIGINALLY BEING NAMED FIONA TO MIMIC THE LYRICS TO THE SONG. HOWEVER, SINCE THERE´S ALREADY A VERY FAMOUS FIONA IN THE DEGRASSI UNIVERSE, I RENAMED HER AFTER WINONA RYDER´S BAD GIRL CHARACTER FROM THE CULT CLASSIC "HEATHERS". 1. Int. Veronica´s House. Morning.
Veronica, a 16 year old girl with long, black hair, who can best be described as a hot little Lolita, comes down the stairs where her parents are getting ready to leave. Their house is large and they´re clearly well off financially. They´re of the very conservative type and Veronica is dressed more or less the same way.
Veronica:
Have fun in church. I wish, I could go with you.
Dad:
This is two weekends in a row, Veronica. Sunday is God´s day, not your boyfriend´s.
Veronica:
I told you, that it´s his birthday. I would be a pretty bad girlfriend, if I didn´t show up.
Mom:
Just promise us, that you´ll come next week. I´ll start to fear for your soul, if you miss more church.
Veronica:
I´ll pray extra hard before bedtime tonight? How´s that?
Her parents smile at her.
Dad:
I suppose it´s okay, as long as you come next Sunday.
Veronica:
I promise, I will. Cross my heart and hope to die.
Mom:
We´re so lucky to have an easy daughter like you. With all the sex and drug use that´s going on among your age group ...
Veronica:
Mom. I keep telling you to stop watching Lifetime movies! I´ll see you tonight.
Veronica gives hugs to both of her parents and smiles to herself, as she leaves them.
2. Ext. Street. Morning.
Veronica is hurrying up the street. A green van is parked on the side of the road. She runs up to it and gets in.
3. Int. Sav´s Van. Morning.
Sav is clearly waiting for her and smiles, when she gets in. She immediately starts to kiss him.
Veronica:
Hi there, stranger!
Sav:
Don´t you want to get out of here first?
Veronica:
We can do round one here and drive off somewhere else for round two. I can´t wait to get out of these ugly clothes.
Sav:
If you say so!
They crawl over the seats and into the back.
OPENING CREDITS
4. Int. Van. Morning.
Veronica and Sav are getting dressed after their "fun".
Veronica:
Round three will have to wait for another day. It´s the idiot´s birthday.
Sav:
I´m glad, I´m not your boyfriend.
Veronica:
No, you just like that I let you do what you want to me.
Sav:
I didn´t mean it in a "You would be a terrible girlfriend" way. Only that you don´t seem to have a whole lot of respect for the boyfriend, you have now.
Veronica:
He´s more an excuse to go out, without being bombarded by questions from my parents, than anything else. He´s done it with at least two girls on the cheerleader squad and there´s probably more, he´s done it with. At least, I´m only doing it with you and I´m not risking giving him VD´s, like that jack-off does to me.
Sav:
I won´t always come running, when you feel like using me.
She smiles sexily at him.
Veronica:
Admit it, Sav. You love it, when I use you! Like when I brought those handcuffs last week ...
Sav:
I never said, I didn´t! The right thing would be to break it off with him. I wish, you would consider it.
Veronica:
Isn´t it more exciting this way, knowing that we could be caught at any moment?
Sav:
Maybe for you. For me it´s dangerous.
Veronica:
I hope that he does, just so I can see the look on his stupid face!
She gives him one (very hot) last kiss and slips out of the back door. Sav is left trying to gather himself, but can´t help smiling.
Sav (to himself):
The money you spent on this van is the best money, you´ve ever spent!
He nods in agreement with himself.
5. Int. Mansion. Day.
Veronica is walking through the party, that there clearly hasn´t been spared any expense on and has more than it´s share of guests. She comes over to her boyfriend Scott (a tall, chiseled and very athletic 17 year old), who´s with his parents.
Veronica:
Sorry, that I´m running a little late.
Scott´s Dad:
Better late than ever, isn´t that what they say?
Veronica:
I love that dress, Mrs. Leaf!
Scott´s Mom:
Oh, you little flatterer!
She smiles at them. They clearly like her, but Scott is anything but pleased with her.
Scott:
Mom, dad. will you excuse us for a minute?
Scott´s Dad:
Don´t be too long. It´s almost time to cut the cake!
Scott more or less drags her away inside.
6. Int. Mansion. Day.
Scott is angry with her, but it doesn´t appear that she cares.
Scott:
You just embarrassed me in front of my family and team mates!
Veronica:
You have to give a girl a chance to go to church on Sunday. You know how important it is to my parents, that I go.
Scott:
I should be your first priority!
Veronica:
Do you want to spend today fighting in here or out there celebrating your birthday? Anyway, you don´t own me, so cool it with the narcissism!
Scott:
You ungrateful little slut! You were nothing, until I gave you the time of day!
Veronica defiantly looks him in the eyes.
Veronica:
I was something, I´m not now. I was happy.
Scott:
You don´t mean that! We both know that you´re only popular because of me!
Veronica:
Sorry, Scott, but I do. Don´t worry, I´ll put on a face and pretend, that I still like you. At least for a little while longer, until I find something better.
Scott:
If you break up with me, then so help me ...
Veronica:
You´ll do what? Beat me up? That would look really good on your college resume, wouldn´t it, Scotty?
Scott:
You know, I hate it, when you call me that!
Veronica:
If you lay one finger on me, then you can forget about ever playing for an Ivy League team or in the NFL someday. You´ll be "cancelled" faster than you can comprehend what´s happening!
Scott:
I could dump you.
Veronica:
Go ahead, see if I care. Now put on a nice wide smile and take my arm.
She offers him her arm and he reluctantly takes it. He still doesn´t look too pleased.
Veronica:
I´m not seeing a smile!
He forces one for her, but it´s very forced! She pads him on the cheek, just to play with him even more.
Veronica:
Good boy! Let´s have some cake!
Now it´s her that practically drags him out.
7. Int. Van. Day.
Sav and Eli are eating under much more modest conditions, eating some take out from a burger place in the front seat of his van. Eli is absolutely loving his, to Sav´s amusement.
Sav:
We can go back for more, if you want?
Eli:
One is enough. I´m trying to watch what I eat.
Sav:
It wouldn´t have anything to do with a certain girl, who lives up the street from you?
Eli:
She´s so attractive, that it makes me feel fat and ugly sometimes. I feel like I have to lose some of these unwanted pounds, before I deserve to be with her.
Sav smiles at him.
Sav:
If other girls knew how sweet you are, she would have to fight them off. An extra pound or two doesn´t change that.
Eli:
How´s it going with you and that rich girl, you won´t tell me the name of?
Sav:
She has me confused. On one hand, I know that she´s toying with my emotions. On the other hand, she´s so hot and sexy, that I´d be a fool to give up what I have with her!
Eli:
Do you like her?
Sav:
The sad thing is that I do, even if we would be all wrong for each other as a couple.
Eli:
Why would you say that?
Sav:
Do you think her fancy parents would accept a wannabe musician as their son in law and invite my parents to dinner parties with the city´s VIP´s? Not in this world!
Eli:
Move on then. There´s plenty of pretty girls at Degrassi, who don´t bring a ton of baggage into a relationship. Says the guy, who brings perhaps more than anyone there into his!
Sav:
If only it were that easy. I get half boners in class, just thinking about her sometimes. I´ve literally never met a girl, who can turn me on like she does. Not even close! She has a magic way about her, that can´t be explained, where you want to stand up for yourself, but one look into those blue eyes and you´re completely sold again!
Eli:
I think, you´re starting to fall in love with her. It sure sounds that way.
Sav:
I sure hope not! That girl has trouble written all over her!
He takes another bite and considers it.
8. Int. Hallway. Day.
Holly J and Anya are on their way to class and are talking about the weekend.
Anya:
Did you get any work done on your project?
Holly J:
A good chunk of it. What about you and Blue?
Anya:
We´re coasting towards a C, if we´re lucky. He isn´t exactly a master at concentrating, when we try to do school work together. Not that I can say, I am either.
Holly J:
Me and Sav tried it too, back when we were an item. Never worked once!
Anya:
Add that to my own tendency to get lazy, when it´s something I don´t really care about and you get two teens, who spend the weekend saying "We´ll start on it, right after we´re done with this first"!
Holly J laughs.
Holly J:
Tell me, you at least had fun!
Anya:
In abundance!
Holly J:
In abundance even! I hear that that´s a lot!
Anya:
He has an effect on me, where he can make the world seem fresh and exciting again.
Holly J (sarcastically):
I´m not the tiniest bit jealous! Not at all!
Anya:
You´ll find someone sooner or later. That´s the least of your problems.
They see Veronica walking towards them with her "friends" Rochelle (a very pretty African American girl) and Gina (an Italian American girl, who isn´t as pretty as the other two, but not ugly by any means), who are both the same age as her. Anya and Holly J instinctively try to get as far to the other side of them, as they can.
Gina:
Hey, Anya! I hear, that you´ve been on feasting on a steady diet of Blue lately!
She laughs and so does Rochelle and Veronica. Anya has to stop and calm down.
Holly J:
It´s only two more years and then you´ll never have to see them again.
Anya:
I hate them so much, that I just wanna ...
Holly J:
You don´t have to say it again!
Anya:
I know that he likes being with her, but she´s gonna break his heart.
Holly J:
If he gets burned, then he still went into it fully knowing, what he was getting himself into.
Anya:
He thinks that he does, but he doesn´t. Me and Veronica were like two peas in a pod in Elementary School. She´s changed so much, that I don´t recognize who she is anymore. Now she´s this popularity obsessed biatch!
Holly J:
Some friendships sadly come and go.
Anya sadly nods.
9. Int. Classroom. Day.
Gina is still finding her lame joke funny. Rochelle and Veronica not so much.
Gina:
Did you see her face?
Veronica:
It wasn´t that funny.
Gina:
Like you could do better?
Rochelle:
Haven´t you been?
Veronica gets defensive.
Veronica:
What´s that supposed to mean?
Rochelle:
I couldn´t help notice, that you weren´t in church yesterday or the week before, for that matter. Couple that with me hearing that you turned up late for Scott´s birthday and you have a mystery. Where was Veronica for those famed hours?
Gina:
How can you even think of cheating on Scott?
Veronica:
You can have him, if you want him, for all I care.
Rochelle:
There is another guy, isn´t there?
Veronica:
Only in my imagination. The boring reveal to your mystery is, that I was taking a long walk. I needed to think some things over.
Rochelle drops it, but her and Gina are still suspicious.
10. Int. Gymnasium. Day.
The boys are playing Basketball in P.E. Scott is one of the best ones at it, but Sav is pretty good too and not that far from Scott´s level. One of the smaller boys on the other hand is pretty hopeless and has the ball snatched away by Scott, when she tries to dribble it. Scott then scores an easy lay up. Walking back, he looks tauntingly at the boy.
Scott:
Get off the court, Wimp!
His words, coupled with his dislike for how he treats Veronica, are enough to set Sav off and he gets in Scott´s face.
Sav:
What did you call him?
The boy tries to get Sav to calm down.
Boy:
He´s not worth it.
Sav:
I´m not letting him talk to you or anyone else like that!
Scott:
What are you, his boyfriend or something?
Sav:
Do you want some, rich boy?
Sav shoves him and he falls to the floor. Soon the rest of the students rush to separate them. Scott is helped by Charles and Randy, his two best friends and a pair of pretty big dudes on top of it, while Sav is being held back by their teacher.
Scott:
If we fought, then there would be two hits. Me hitting you and you hitting the floor!
Sav:
You´ve got that the other way round!
Teacher:
That´s enough. Sav, go to the principal´s office, now!
Sav:
He´s the Dickwad, who started it!
Teacher:
I´m telling the principal, that you used profanity in my class. Go!
Scott:
Have fun in detention, loser!
Scott smiles smugly to himself, as Anya drags Sav away from him.
11. Int. Principal´s Office. Day.
Hatzilakos is staring Sav down, who´s is in the seat across from her.
Hatzilakos:
You shoved him, so he fell to the floor, then called him a, what was it ...
Sav:
Dickwad, Miss Hatzilakos.
Hatzilakos:
You know that we have a three strikes policy, when it comes to violence, don´t you, Sav?
Sav:
I´m usually never violent. It won´t happen again.
Hatzilakos:
Was it just that he talked down to the other boy or is there something, you´re not telling me?
Sav quickly sees that he´s not gonna have much luck with lying to her, so he may as well come clean.
Sav:
There might be a girl involved.
She doesn´t look all that surprised.
Hatzilakos:
Believe it or not, it´s not the first time we´ve had two boys get into a fight, because they liked the same girl.
Sav:
It would surprise me, if it were.
Hatzilakos:
Take a piece of advice from me, mister Bhindari. Fighting isn´t the way to get a girl to like you. Next time, try asking her out on a date in stead.
Sav smiles and nods in understanding.
Sav:
That´s good advice. Am I getting suspended?
Hatzilakos stops and looks Sav in the eyes.
Hatzilakos:
Luckily for you, it´s your first offense and no one was hurt. I can let you get away with a weeks detention.
Sav:
Thanks. I can accept that as fair.
Hatzilakos:
I´d consider taking an anger management class, if I were you. Everyone has people who annoy them in High School. They don´t all go around attacking them, like you did. If there´s a next time, then I´ll have suspend you. A 3rd time and you´ll be automatically expelled.
Sav:
There won´t be. He´s the problem, not me.
Hatzilakos:
Try to talk it out next time, before you do something stupid. You can go now.
Sav gets up and leaves him. Hatzilakos goes back to rubbing his temples.
12. Int. Hallway. Day.
Scott is with Charles and Randy, who more or less see him as a hero.
Charles:
You played him like a fiddle!
Randy:
It was like a work of art.
Scott:
It´s his own fault. He´s the one who won´t accept, that I rule this school and can do what I want.
Veronica comes over to him.
Veronica:
Who won´t accept it?
Scott:
Sav. It was so easy to play on his feeble brain. He´ll be spending the next week in detention for pushing me.
Veronica gets an idea.
Veronica:
I just wanted to let you know, that I can´t hang out after school. My grand mom is making me go shopping with her.
Randy:
How does it feel to get stood up for a lady in her 60´s, Scott?
Charles:
That has to sting!
Scott:
Shut up! I suppose, I can accept it this one time.
Veronica:
You´re the best!
She gives him a kiss on the cheek and fakes a smile for him and his friends. When she walks away from him though, she can´t hide her contempt for him anymore.
13. Int. Hatzilakos´s Office. Day.
This time it´s Veronica, who´s with Hatzilakos, who looks confused.
Hatzilakos:
You want me to give you detention?
Veronica:
In a nutshell, yes.
Hatzilakos looks at her in disbelief.
Hatzilakos:
I´ve seen some things in this job, but this is a first. Why exactly, do you want me to give you detention?
Veronica:
It´s a long story, but I´ll spare you the details. Basically, I met this guy a few weeks ago. I knew, that my parents would hate it, if I did anything with him and that only made me want him more. Now I´ve sort of gone and fallen in love with him. He has detention for the next week, so this is my chance to spend quality time with him, without my boyfriend getting suspicious. You would be helping me out a whole lot.
Hatzilakos has to rub her temples.
Hatzilakos:
Why don´t you just break up with your boyfriend?
Veronica:
He´s kind of an A-Hole, but I still have use for him. Don´t worry, he absolutely deserves to be cheated on. He cheats on me all the time!
Hatzilakos (muttering to herself):
Why did I decide to work with teenagers?
Veronica:
Sorry? I didn´t hear that.
Hatzilakos:
I don´t know ...
Veronica:
I can go out and cause trouble, so you have to give me detention. Your call.
Hatzilakos gives in and goes along with it.
Hatzilakos:
What do want me to write, that you got it for?
Veronica:
Nothing too big. How about if I called someone a bad word?
Hatzilakos:
I can´t give you more than one day for that. If you want all five with him, then it has to be more serious.
Veronica:
What if we said that on top of calling someone a bad word, I also said something really mean to them. Would that be enough?
Hatzilakos:
I can probably swing that.
Veronica looks delighted and stands up.
Veronica:
Thanks, Miss H. If you ever need a favor, then all you have to do is ask. You did a big one for me here.
Hatzilakos:
You´re welcome?
She happily strolls out the door.
Hatzilakos:
These kids today!
She shakes his head at the insanity of it all.
14. Int. Girl´s Room. Day.
Anya comes out from a stall, when Veronica comes in. Things between them are tense.
Veronica:
Hi, Anya.
Anya:
Don´t hi me!
Veronica:
I´m sorry that I laughed at Gina´s stupid joke, okay? I have to keep up appearances.
She looks apologetic, but Anya is having none of it.
Anya:
I feel so sorry for you! Not!
Veronica:
Don´t you think, I wish, I could be you for a day? That I could be myself and not have to care, what everyone thinks?
Anya:
I care.
Veronica:
Not nearly as much as they do and that´s why they´re jealous of you. In their minds, popularity is everything, so they feel forced to only do what they think will keep them popular, where as you get to do what you feel like. I only hang out with them, because it´s expected of me.
Anya looks her in the eyes.
Anya:
Poor little rich girl, who always gets what she wants! There´s a very small violin somewhere playing a sad song for you.
Veronica sees, that it´s time to bring out he big guns.
Veronica:
If you tell anyone this, I will deny it. The truth is that I´m miserable.
Anya:
I can´t say, that doesn´t cheer me up! Do you think it´s fun for Sav, that you´re toying with his heart?
Veronica:
Do you think it´s fun for me to be in love up to my ears in a guy, I know that my parents will never accept? He´s the only one I feel like I can be myself with, in stead of this pathetic act, I have to put on for the rest of the world. On top of that I have to let a creep, that I can´t stand the sight of, have his way with me or is bye, bye popularity. If you think, that I get what I want, then you´re sadly mistaken. You probably get what you want a whole lot more often, than I do. I would give up my trust fund, my popularity and all of that in a heartbeat, if it meant that I got to choose which guy I wanted to be with. The way I see it, you´re living in luxury, because you get to make that choice.
She pushes past Anya and into a stall. We hear the door being locked. Anya now feels bad for how tough she was with her and leaves. Cutting to the inside of the stall, we can see that Veronica has started to cry.
Anya (off screen):
Look, I´m sorry I was so hard on you. I guess it can´t be easy being you. If I had to kiss Scott, I would barf in his mouth!
Veronica can´t help giggling a little.
Veronica:
I sometimes have to fight the urge to.
She comes out of the stall and looks Anya in the eyes.
Veronica:
I wish we could go back to elementary school and start over. Before boys and popularity came between us.
Anya:
We could try hanging out and see where it takes us.
Veronica:
I´d like that.
She looks glad.
15. Int. Library. Day.
Sav is the only one in detention. Miss Kwan is in charge of it.
Sav:
Is it just me today?
Miss Kwan:
There´s one more. She should be here soon.
Sav:
Great. I get to spend the afternoon having uncomfortable silences!
He looks annoyed, but it soon turns into a smile, when Veronica comes in.
Veronica:
Sorry, that I´m fashionably late!
Miss Kwan:
You´re here for the whole week, so I´ll let it slide, if you´re on time the other days.
Veronica:
I´ll make sure to be miss Punctuality from now on!
Miss Kwan:
Take a seat, Veronica.
She plays it cool, as she sits down next to Sav.
Miss Kwan:
I´m sure, that you have homework to entertain yourselves with. I´ll be grading papers in the office across the hall, if you need me.
He leaves them and Veronica smiles cheekily at Sav.
Sav:
How ...
Veronica:
Haven´t you figured it out by now? I have my ways.
Sav:
Like no one else has them!
They smile at each other.
16. Montage - Music: "Scotty Doesn´t Know" by Lustra.
We see them making out behind a bookcase, while keeping a keen eye, that the security cameras won´t catch them in the act.
We then see them quickly trying to tidy themselves up, before Miss Kwan comes back. Veronica is brushing her hair very quickly, while Sav finds out that he has his T-Shirt on inside out, when he sees the tag. He very quickly takes it off and turns it the right way around before putting it on again. They just manage to finish in time and both yawn and try to look bored, when Miss Kwan comes back in, so as to sell the lie. He believes them and let´s them leave for the day. She takes Sav´s hand, the moment he can´t see them anymore. They look truly happy together.
We see Veronica´s face and shoulders as she´s lying on her back in Sav´s van with him on top of her, seemingly topless and about to have an orgasm, when her phone rings. She grabs it and looks at the display.
Sav:
Do you have to take that?
Veronica:
It´s Scotty the Snotty.
She puts the phone to her ear.
Veronica:
Scott! I can´t talk right ... Ah! Ah!
Scott (voice over):
What are you doing?
Veronica:
Just ... just ... just ... Oh, my GOD!
Scott (voice over):
Veronica, I demand that you tell me!
Veronica:
I´m through with your demands!
Scott (voice over):
What did you say?
She hangs up the phone and throws it away. She starts moaning loudly, as the big O comes. The phone starts ringing again right away, but she couldn´t care less.
