WHAT IF? - SEASON 5 EPISODE 11 - SOUR GIRL (PART 2)
1. Int. Cinema. Evening.
Mia and Sav are at the movies, but they´re doing a lot more face sucking than movie watching! It´s so much that a mother with her son sitting next to them is starting to think it´s too much.
Woman (whispering to them):
Do you two mind? There´s children here!
Sav and Mia stop kissing and look a little embarrassed.
Mia (whispering to the woman):
Sorry!
Sav (whispering to Mia):
Wanna get out of here? I have no idea what´s going on in the movie anyway.
Mia smiles at him.
Mia (whispering to Sav):
Me neither. Let´s go!
They get out and try to sneak out as quietly as possible. None of them noticed that Danny and Chantay were also there, sitting a handful of rows behind them and having seen it all. Danny looks angry on Peter´s behalf, where as Chantay´s gossip loving head has gone into overdrive!
OPENING CREDITS
2. Int. Peter´s Room. Day.
Peter lets Danny in and sits back down on his bed, that his guitar is also laying on.
Peter:
Hey, Danny. What brings you over?
Danny:
I figured you could use some company. Is your mom still mad at you?
Peter:
Yeah, it´s ridiculous! It had been half a year, since I did anything wrong, so you´d think I´d be given the benefit of the doubt!
Danny:
How many tests was it they proved, you´d cheated on?
Peter:
Twelve. It´s bad enough that I have to take them again, this time only me and under constant supervision, without her punishing me too.
Danny:
If that had been me, I would homeless right now!
Peter:
Oh, well ... What have you been up these past days?
Danny:
You know, the usual.
Danny takes a seat on a chair.
Danny:
I took Chantay to the movies yesterday.
Peter opens a drawer and get something out of it.
Peter:
Was it a good movie?
Danny:
Yeah, i was okay. There was something else there, that was much more interesting to look at though ... Holy crap! Is that a wedding ring?
We see that Peter is holding a small gold ring between his fingers.
Peter:
An engagement ring.
Danny:
For Mia?
Peter:
No, for my 90 year old great aunt Ethel! Who do you think it´s for?
Danny:
That´s a big step!
Peter:
I´m planning on doing it on our two year anniversary tomorrow. I even got my mom to grant me day´s prison leave, so I can take Mia out. Wanna see it?
He hands the ring to Danny, who looks it over. It´s plain gold with a nice looking engraving in the side.
Danny:
What does the engravement say?
Peter:
It´s the time and place we had our first kiss.
Danny:
Wow! I didn´t know you could be so gentlemanly!
Peter:
I can´t take all the credit for it. Google did it´s part too!
Danny hands the ring back to him.
Peter:
You were telling a story about something you saw at the movies?
Danny thinks about it for a second, but Peter looks to glad that he can´t bring himself to.
Danny:
There were the hottest pair of lesbians sitting right in front of us!
Peter:
Did you see them make out?
Danny:
Tongues and everything! I could hear the smacking, from where I was sitting!
Peter:
There´s nothing like seeing it live and in person, is there?
They fist bump and Peter puts the ring back to it´s safe place. Danny feels sorry for him, that he´s being cheated on and doesn´t know it.
3. Int. Hallway. Morning.
Mia arrives for school and is surprised to see Danny waiting for her.
Mia:
Hi, Danny. Are you waiting for someone?
Danny:
You, Mia. It looks like we have the same taste in movies, you, me and Chantay.
Mia looks terrified that she´s been busted.
Mia:
I think you´ve gotten me confused with someone else!
Danny:
You mean to say that Sav made out with another girl yesterday, who looked exactly like you?
Mia:
Danny, I can explain!
Danny:
Why you cheated on my best bro all of a sudden, after you´ve been with him for two years?
Mia:
It´s hard to explain. Just please don´t tell him!
Danny:
Okay, I won´t. I can´t for sure what Chantay will do, though!
Mia runs off to catch Chantay, before she can do anything. Danny clearly doesn´t have much pity with her.
4. Int. Classroom. Morning.
Peter is trying to do some last minute homework before the first class starts in classic JT fashion, when Chantay comes over and sits down next to him. She looks at him with sympathy.
Chantay:
Hi, Peter. How are you doing?
Peter:
Same as usual. You?
She looks surprised at his answer.
Chantay:
You don´t feel different today, than you did say at this time yesterday?
Now it´s him who looks confused.
Peter:
Should I?
Chantay:
It would only be natural in this situation!
Peter:
What situation?
Chantay:
Danny told you about what we saw at the movies, right?
Peter:
Oh, that! Good for him!
Chantay looks shocked at his answer.
Chantay:
You´re okay with it?
Peter:
Let´s face it, it´s not the kind of thing you get to try every day! I´m glad, that such a nice thing happened for him!
Chantay:
It doesn´t make you sick to your stomach? It did a little for me!
Peter looks at her blamingly, thinking that she´s being homophobic over two girls kissing.
Peter:
I can´t believe what I´m hearing from you! Try being just a little bit open minded!
Chantay:
There´s being open minded and there´s being crazy, which is what you are!
Chantay walks off to take a different seat, as Peter with a confused look on his face tries to take in what happened with no clue about what Chantay meant. Mia comes in and rushes over to take the seat next to Peter.
Mia:
Hi, Peter!
Peter:
Hi, Mia.
Mia:
Did Chantay talk to you?
Peter:
Yeah, a very weird conversation! Is she hateful towards all gay people or is it just girls, she doesn´t like?
Mia at first looks confused at his answer, but then smiles a little when she figures out that he clearly doesn´t know anything about her and Sav.
Mia:
I´ve never heard her say anything bad about gay people, from what I remember!
Peter:
From what she said, I think she could be homophobic.
Mia:
Let´s talk about something else! Like what you have planned for our two year anniversary?
Peter:
You will be picked up by your´s truly from your mom´s apartment building at six o´clock, where after we will go to dinner at a nice restaurant, my dad recommended and to cap the night off a big surprise, I´m positive you´ll like.
Mia:
Tell me!
Peter:
You´ll have to wait and see!
They smile at each other as Mia at the same time tries her best to hide her guilt.
5. Int. Library. Day.
Chantay and Danny meet behind a bookcase. They kiss passionately.
Danny:
Did you talk to Peter?
Chantay:
He seemed like he was okay with it.
Danny:
Hold on! What?
Chantay:
Then he told me, that I needed to be more open-minded! No one´s more open-minded at this school than me! I am the queen of open-mindedness, thank you very much!
Danny:
Open minded?
He thinks about it.
Chantay:
So I called him crazy and that was that conversation! Two second later Mia walks in and they´re looking like nothing´s changed! Sometimes I don´t get white people! You´d think I was being racist or homophobic or something like that, with the way he reacted! All I said was that it made me sick to my stomach to see her cheating on him so openly!
Danny beings to realize what´s going on.
Danny:
That´s because he might think that you´re homophobic.
He backs off and she looks at him blamingly.
Chantay:
Why would he think that, Danny?
Danny:
Because I told him that we saw ... two hot lesbians kissing, while we were at the movies!
Chantay:
And I said to him that it made me sick to my stomach to see them kiss? Danny!
Danny:
How was I supposed to predict exactly how your conversation would go? Anyway, I thought I´d let you tell him, so I didn´t have to!
Chantay:
I thought you´d already told him!
Danny:
I was gonna, but I chickened out.
Chantay:
So you were using me to do your dirty work? Is that what I´m hearing?
Danny:
He´s my bro! I don´t want to break his heart by telling him, that his girl is getting it on behind his back! Girls are better at breaking that kind of stuff, than us guys are! We´re terrible at it! Just plain awful!
Chantay:
No arguments there! One of us is going to have to tell him and it isn´t gonna be me. I´ve already made a fool of myself one too many times today!
Danny:
I don´t want to tell him either! I´m almost ready to just forget about it and let them deal with it.
Chantay:
Or we could play on Mia´s guilt and get her to tell him, so none of us will have to?
Danny seems to like that plan. Chantay starts to come up with an idea.
6. Int. Girl´s Room. Day.
Chantay and Darcy come out from a stall each at the same time. They go to wash their hands.
Darcy:
I meant to ask you. How was the movie you went to?
Chantay:
It´s recommendable.
Darcy:
Nice. I was thinking of going to see it tonight with my little sister as a sister´s night out kind of thing.
Chantay:
That sounds nice!
They smile at each other.
7. Int. Hallway. Day.
Mia is talking to Sav.
Sav:
I won´t just forget about it, Mia! It meant something!
Mia:
Can you then please let me get through my two year anniversary with Peter, before we do anything more?
Sav:
When is that?
Mia:
Today. He´s taking me out on a fancy date.
Sav:
Are you gonna tell him about us then?
Mia:
I´ll tell him soon, I promise.
They smile at each other and Mia walks away from him.
We cut to Darcy and Chantay, who have seen all of it from where they were standing.
Chantay:
That is what you call cocky of her!
Darcy:
What do you know about Mia and Sav?
Chantay:
What do you know?
Darcy:
I probably shouldn´t tell you, but she has a little bit of a crush on him.
Chantay:
She has more than that! I personally saw her and Sav thoroughly exploring the insides of each other´s mouths with their tongues, at the movies last night!
Darcy:
Dammit, Mia!
Darcy looks annoyed with her friend.
Darcy:
I warned her against him!
Chantay:
Darcy, you´ve never said that he wasn´t a nice guy.
Darcy:
No, but she´s one of my best friends! I don´t want her dating my ex, it would be way, way, WAY too weird for me!
Chantay nods in understanding.
Chantay:
Three "Way´s", huh?
Darcy:
That many! If she won´t tell Peter herself, then I will.
Chantay:
Or if you don´t mind postponing your movie night with lil´ sis, you can be in on mine and Danny´s plan and perhaps get her to tell him herself?
Darcy smiles at Chantay´s idea.
8. Ext. Street. Evening.
Darcy meets up with Chantay and Danny outside of a restaurant. She´s also brought Jane with her.
Chantay:
You wanted in on it too, huh?
Jane:
This time, I´m not missing out!
Darcy:
Are we sure, this is where they´re going?
Danny:
I got all of Peter´s plans out of him.
Chantay:
We´ve got their whole evening covered.
Jane:
Have you two considered careers in law enforcement together after high school is over?
They head inside the restaurant.
9. Int. Restaurant. Evening.
Chantay, Danny, Jane and Darcy are seated at a table and are ordering. It´s Chantay´s turn and Danny is looking a little worried, since he knows that he´s paying for both of them.
Chantay:
For my main course, I´ll have the ...
Danny (whispering to himself):
Please not something expensive, please not something expensive!
Chantay:
Lobster Linguini.
The waiter jots it down. Danny sees the need to save his wallet from this massacre against it.
Danny:
Honey, you´re sure there´s not something else, you´d like just as much and didn´t cost as much?
Jane:
Are you saying that she´s not worth it, Danny?
Darcy:
That´s kind of what it sounds like!
Danny:
I didn´t mean it that way! Order what you want, Chantay. I´ll pay for it.
She smiles on his and has mercy on him, so she looks at the menu again.
Chantay:
I´ll take the far cheaper mushroom Risotto in stead.
Danny breathes a sigh of relief. The waiter leaves them.
Jane:
It sucks to be the only cock in the henhouse sometimes, doesn´t it, Danny?
Danny nods in agreement. They see Peter and Mia being led to a table, dressed up for the occasion. Mia isn´t too pleased at seeing her friends there, while Peter isn´t looking all that unhappy over it.
Peter:
What are you guys doing here?
Chantay:
After Danny told me where you were going, I suggested that we tried it out for ourselves.
Jane::
I didn´t have anything better to do tonight and neither did Darcy, so here we are!
Mia:
We were kind of hoping for a romantic evening, where it would only be the two of us.
Peter:
We´ll have time for that later! I mean, when you think about it, isn´t this an occasion that deserves being celebrated with our best friends?
Darcy:
He has a great point there, Mia. You can´t deny, that we´re a part of why you´ve managed to stay together this long.
Danny:
Let us celebrate it with you and give me the chance to not be the only guy here with three girls!
Peter:
We can go somewhere else, Mia, but it feels sort of fitting to me. Plus, we´ll have plenty of time to be alone later, I promise.
Mia doesn´t exactly like it, but sees no choice except to go along with it.
Mia:
Okay, if you want to, we can.
Peter:
Waiter, is it possible that we could sit with them?
Waiter:
I´ll see what I can do.
Chantay looks pleased with how the plan is progressing. Mia looks worried that she´ll end up getting busted for her infidelity.
10. Int. Restaurant (later). Evening.
Peter is enjoying himself with Chantay, Danny and Darcy. Meanwhile Mia and Jane are having a talk a little away from them, where they can´t hear them.
Jane:
How could you not have told me? We´re still best friends, aren´t we?
Mia:
Yes and I guess, I was too ashamed to. I don´t want to break Peter´s heart, because he´s been so good to me over these past two years, that it´s restored my faith in guys as a whole.
Jane:
We are talking about the same Peter, who just got busted for cheating on a bunch of tests, aren´t we?
Mia:
He´s not perfect, but he´s never cheated on me or mistreated me or anything like that. He´s made some dumb decisions, sure, but I can´t say that I haven´t made a handful of those and neither can you. There´s just no passion there anymore and when I kissed Sav, I felt it for the first time in a long time.
Jane:
You´re sure it´s not only that it´s new and exciting right now?
Mia:
I don´t know and it would be crazy to start something up with him considering all the warnings, I´ve been getting right and left, about how I´ll regret it.
Jane:
Hold on! Who said this?
Mia:
Darcy and Holly J.
Jane:
His two ex-girlfriends, one who dumped him with for using her as a weapon in his family feud and one who broke up with him because of his family? Are you seeing a pattern?
Mia:
I know and they´ll probably never accept me, but ...
Jane:
I didn´t mean it like that! Look, just because it happened that way for them, doesn´t naturally mean that it will for you. Darcy, as much as we both love her, was never going to fit in with a family, that´s dominatingly Muslim with her religious beliefs.
Mia:
That´s true.
Jane:
As for Holly J, I´ve never met her parents, but from what she´s told me, they´re more or less your standard rich parents from hell, who care more about their public image than about their only child. Asking them to get along with a religious working class immigrant family, while throwing a teen pregnancy into the mix, is like asking Rosie O´Donnell and Donald Trump spend a day together. It´s bound to end in disaster, one way or the other!
Mia:
It could be entertaining though! What you´re telling me, is that I shouldn´t listen to them?
Jane:
What I´m telling you, is that I´ve known Sav for a while now and he seems like the kind of pleasant, even tempered guy, that I wouldn´t mind seeing as my best friend´s boyfriend. It isn´t right to string Peter along either though and if he finds out through one of three others at our table, what´s been going on, it´s going to end a lot worse, than if it comes from you with a proper apology to along with it.
Mia nods in understanding, as Peter comes over to them.
Peter:
You´re missing out on a million miles of fun!
Mia:
We´re having fun in our own way.
He puts his arms around Mia.
Peter:
I can´t wait to give you your special surprise later on. You´re gonna love it!
Mia:
I´m sure, I will too.
She gives him a small kiss to satisfy his urges.
Mia:
We´ll be there in a moment.
Peter:
Cool. It´s not that I mind you guys needing your BFF talks, but you are kind of stealing my girlfriend away on our special evening, Jane.
Jane:
I´ll try not to do more stealing of her for the rest of the evening, Peter.
They smile at each other and Peter goes back to join the others.
Mia:
I´ll tell him tomorrow. If I do it tonight, that would be too cruel of a memory for him.
Jane:
Just remember that the longer you wait, the harder it becomes and the less your chances will be of starting something with Sav.
Mia:
Right now, all I want to do is get through tonight with Peter none the wiser and then I can deal with it tomorrow.
Jane:
Okay, if that´s your call.
Mia:
At this moment, it´s the only logical call to make!
They go back to the table and join the others. Chantay and Darcy see a chance to get in a quick stab on Mia.
Chantay:
What did you two have to discuss, that took you away from us for that long?
Mia:
Just normal stuff. Nothing big.
Darcy:
You couldn´t have discussed "normal stuff" in front of us, like you do all time?
Mia:
It´s just, with the boys here ...
Jane:
What Mia is trying to say is that some things aren´t meant for boys to hear.
Peter:
We don´t mind! You can talk about anything in front of us.
Danny:
I just let half of it go in one ear and other the other, like I always do when Chantay tells me something!
Jane:
You don´t mind him saying this, Chantay?
Chantay:
To be fair to him, I talk a lot!
Peter:
Unless it´s about those problems, that a girl can have with her nether regions!
Danny:
Dude, I´ve just eaten!
Jane:
If you really must know, it was. I have a case of ...
Peter/Danny:
We don´t want to know!
Mia gives Jane a thankful look for getting her out of it.
11. Ext. Restaurant. Evening.
The gang leave the restaurant all looking pleasantly full.
Mia:
Are you going to tell me now, where we´re going next?
Peter:
I will, when we get there. See you later, guys!
Danny:
Later, Bro!
Chantay:
Have fun, where ever you´re going!
Peter and Mia walk off towards the parking lot.
Danny:
Let´s wait for two minutes for them to leave, so he doesn´t get suspicious.
Jane:
Where are they going, by the way?
Danny:
The Raptors game, to which I have three tickets. Sorry, Jane, I didn´t know you were coming and Darcy, I will need you to pay me back for it, because it wasn´t cheap.
Darcy:
Yeah, of course I will.
Jane:
Maybe I can buy a ticket from a scalper, if I´m lucky.
Chantay:
Or ...
She looks pleadingly at Danny, who looks like he doesn´t want to give in this time.
Danny:
No, Chantay!
Chantay:
You could let Jane buy your ticket from you. I mean, do you really want to be there, to witness your best friend get his heart broken?
Darcy:
Just think of how weird it´s going to be facing him afterwards!
Jane:
You could risk never being able to look at him the same way again!
Danny looks like he´s reluctantly about to give in.
Danny:
I wanted to see the Raptors play!
Chantay:
I promise you, that we´ll go to their next game together! I´ll even pay for the tickets myself.
Danny:
Oh, alright!
He hands the tickets to Chantay, who looks like she´s looking forward to what´s to come.
12. Int. Ice Hockey Arena. Evening.
Mia and Peter are among the raucous crowd, who celebrate as The Raptors go up 5-0 with the second period coming to an end. Mia looks relieved to able to concentrate on something else, although this clearly wasn´t what she expected.
We see Chantay, Jane and Darcy take their seats on the opposite side of the rink with the souvenirs from the evening that they´ve bought.
Darcy:
When do you think he´ll do it?
Chantay:
All I know is that if he´s going to do it here, then it has to be soon.
Jane:
Would it work on you, if a guy asked you to marry him in front of a huge crowd on a big screen?
Darcy:
No!
Chantay:
Heck yeah, it would!
Chantay looks at Darcy, like she´s being weird.
Chantay:
You wouldn´t want to hear them chanting your name, when you say yes to the man you love?
Jane:
I´ve never heard them do that, Chantay!
Chantay:
I was talking to Darcy!
Darcy:
I would rather have it be a private moment, that´s only shared between the two of us.
Chantay:
Sometimes I don´t get you white girls!
Chantay rolls her eyes at them, as the buzzer to end the second period sounds.
Speaker:
That´s the end of the second period with The Raptors up 5-0.
People begin to get up from their seats, including Mia to Peter´s dismay.
Mia:
I´ll get us a soda. I´m thirsty from all this yelling.
Peter:
Can´t you wait two minutes?
Mia:
Why?
Mia looks up at the big screen to see the camera focused on her and looks like a deer caught in headlights.
Mia:
Peter, what´s going on?
We quickly cut over to her friends. Chantay looks excited and gets her phone out to film it, while the others can barely get themselves to look.
Chantay:
This is it!
She starts filming it with her phone.
Speaker:
Mia Jones, your boyfriend Peter has something special he wants to ask you.
We cut back to Mia and Peter, who gets down on his knees, as the people around them cheer them on. He gets the ring from his pocket and shows it to her.
Peter:
Mia, will you marry me?
Mia is at the same time shocked at being put on the spot like this, especially with pressure of having a whole arena watching her at this exact moment.
Mia:
Peter ...
Peter:
We belong together. You know that too.
Mia:
I´m sorry, Peter, but we don´t. I have to break up with you, because there´s someone else.
He looks shocked and puts the ring away again. The crowd stop cheering, now that it´s turned into a sad situation in stead.
Mia:
I´ll completely understand it, if you hate me from now on. Again, I´m really sorry, but I can´t say yes to marrying you in good conscience.
She runs out of there and the camera quickly pans to something else and a song comes over the PA. He sits down on his seat and gets some comforting words and pads on the back from those sitting around him. Chantay is still elated over having seen this in person, while Jane and Darcy more look like they feel sorry for Peter.
13. Int. The Dot. Evening.
Peter is having a talk with Paige over what happened.
Paige:
I´m sorry, Hon. That´s a brutal way to find out.
Peter:
I thought for sure, that she would say yes. In stead I´m left with nothing now.
Paige:
Heartache is a terrible thing and I´m saying that as someone, who´s never come close to having a relationship that lasted as long as yours and Mia´s did. The one comfort I can give you, is that it eventually goes away.
He doesn´t notice Darcy come in and coming over to them.
Darcy:
Hi, Peter. Paige, can I talk to him for a moment?
Paige:
Yeah, sure. See if you can´t put a smile on that sour boy´s face!
Paige gets back to work and Darcy takes her seat.
Peter:
I suppose it´s all over Face Range already, what a big loser I am!
Darcy:
You´re not a loser, Peter and although you can´t see it now, it will be for the best that she said no. You don´t want to marry someone either, who doesn´t really want to marry you, do you?
Peter:
No, I guess not. Maybe if I´d done it in private ...
He lets the question linger in the air for a moment, as he considers it.
Darcy:
It wouldn´t have made any difference.
Peter:
She said that there´s someone else. I can´t stop wondering who it is and how much she´s done with him.
Darcy:
Let her live her own life and go on with yours. That´s the only sensible thing, you can do.
She puts her hands on his to comfort him.
Darcy:
Then when you´re ready, maybe you and I could give it one more shot? If we start it out the right way this time and not with a stoned hook-up, like we did the first time, I can´t see why it shouldn´t work between us.
She gets a small smile out of him.
14. Ext. Degrassi. Morning.
Mia is waiting outside of the school for Sav and is getting many more than the usual amount of stares from her fellow students, as could be expected. She´s pleased to see Sav though, as is he to see her.
Sav:
I saw your video on the internet over the weekend.
Mia:
It´s not a starring performance, that I´d like to be remembered for.
Sav:
Does this mean you´re free to start dating others, like for example guys with Indian roots, who play a mean guitar and have a huge crush on you?
Mia:
That is a very narrow target group, but yes!
Sav:
You don´t think Peter will get mad over seeing us together?
Mia:
Let me deal with Peter. He was my past. You are my present and future.
She looks glad to be moving on.
