The screen began to bubble and boil as the familiar silver door rose from it's depths, the thick purple chains corroding and breaking apart as the door opened up and bathed everything in dark purple.

From the tainted light, came a single red eye that glared at the screen before the door slammed shut and everything became static, a crumbling rose symbol appearing every so often as the title began to form.

The Ruinverse: Chapter Twenty Two, Winchester's Guilt.

Xxxxxxx

-Remnant, Sanus, Vale-

BAM!

KABOOOM!

WOOSH!

CRASH!

"AHHHHHHH!"

Destruction reigned across the city of Vale as cars were flung across the street by an invisible force, destroying nearby shops and killing anyone unfortunate enough to be near the collision zone.

CRASH!

KABOOOM!

The camera zoomed towards a figure, running away from the destruction and flying vehicular chaos in panic and fear, as the pavement and road were being destroyed by the Combustion Dust fueled automobiles.

This figure was a very tall pale skinned man with short combed backwards burnt orange hair sporting a slight peak at the forehead, indigo eyes, wearing silver-gray gold trimmed armor, silver shoulder guards, a golden bird emblem on the chestplate with its wings outstretched on either side, a black red trimmed shirt, a red sash tied around his waist, black pants, silver-gray armored under the knee boots, and had a large black mace with a red crystal in its center on his back, who seemed to be screaming as loud as a mating Beowolf.

This was Cardin Winchester, former student of Beacon Academy and well...

CRASH!

BOOOM!

He was trying to escape his inevitable death by the most unexpected enemy.

"Shit shit shit shit SHIT!" he yelled while quickly dashing down a corner, missing an oncoming bus as it hit a nearby hotel.

BOOOM!

Causing an explosion that sent the teenager flying from the explosive force, making him crashland on a parked car for a brief second and then landed-

SQUISH!

CRASH!

On the pavement, face first, causing his forehead to collide with the gray stones.

"Ah…that smarts!" he yelled, his forehead bleeding and dripping down his face, as he quickly turned around to locate the force behind the destruction. "Where did she go!?"

Clank.

Clank.

Clank.

The color of his skin faded to a deadly shade of white as he heard the loud metallic clanking of metal moving right behind him, making his body freeze in place and sweat profusely in fear.

Clank.

Clank.

Clank.

Clank.

"Found you, murderer." growled a cold voice from behind him, one filled with malice and hate. "Done running from your fate?"

Cardin gulped as he slowly turned his head to face his assailant, dreading the moment when their eyes met once more.

Clank.

Clank.

Clank.

And lo, from the smoke and dust made from the explosions, was a tall muscular pale skinned woman with long red hair in a waist-length ponytail that curled slightly into a loose ringlet, light green eyeshadow around the far upper corners of her green eyes, a D cup chest and small ass, wearing a thick Beowolf styled bronze lined barbute with a T shaped slit visor and two triangular ear-like notches near the sides that sported tiny bronze chains decorated with small green teardrop shaped emeralds on the ends, a thick corset-like bronze cuirass with thick black marking going down the chest area down towards the hips and a snarling Beowolf styled face etched into the chestplate, a large yet thick bronze gorget around the neck, long rectangular bronze shoulder guards with copper lining on the sides and a single black spear emblem in its center, slim bronze gauntlets that went to her elbows and sported long claw-like nails at the ends of the fingers, a long red cape hanging from her neck and extended outwards towards her feet, long triangular bronze faulds that went down from the waist to the knees, black lined bronze cuisses with three copper studded claw-like markings going down from the upper hip to the lower hip, brown bronze lined high heeled sabatons that went to her mid-calf and sporting a single curved point at the tip, and holding a long red javelin with bronze lining on the sides and center, in her right hand and a semi circular bronze shield in her left hand.

This was Pyrrha Nikos, Mistral's champion, former member of Team JNPR.

And the one trying to kill him!

'Shit shit shit!'

"Or will you run away like before?" she scowled, her eyes blazing with a wrathful fire, as her body expelled a black aura that bent the metal poles and crushed the vehicles closest to her instantaneously.

"W-Wait, Nikos wait!" Cardin said in fear as Pyrrha's spear transformed into its sword form, making him slowly move back in terror. "T-This is excessive! I-I was leaving Vale and never returning!"

She narrowed her eyes.

"I-I-I-I-I-I mean…please just let me go! I never meant to-"

"Kill Jaune Arc?" she interrupted while Cardin flitched. "Break his ribs with that mace and puncture his heart? You didn't mean that when you brutalized him in a spar!? Didn't you!?"

"I never meant to kill him! How was I supposed to know his aura was non-existent!"

"Liar! I unlocked his aura, YOU just KILLED HIM!" Pyrrha snapped while raising her sword up into the air, several small buildings being ripped apart from the black aura the champion was expelling from her body, and flung them right towards Cardin.

He paled in terror before sprinting away from the buildings, only for his armor to gain the black taint and felt himself pulled towards Pyrrha. "AH!"

She growled before bashing Cardin's face with her shield, threw him right into the buildings with her semblance before sending him flying right through several nearby brick buildings.

"AHHHHHHH!" Cardin screamed while crashing through several residential homes, two elevators, a flight of stairs, several panicking people which resulted in blood slatting onto his body, and then-

KABOOOOOM!

A boiler, which exploded and sent the ex Huntsman flying into the air before crashing into a nearby Vale News Network building.

SHATTER!

CRASH!

Right through the fifth floor's glass windows, causing the boy to tumble a few feet until he stopped near the now empty new broadcast room, the various reporters and anchormen having left due to fleeing the scene once they heard the explosions near the building.

"Ow...w...gods…that hurt." he groaned in pain as his aura started to heal him, but was running on near empty on account of the previous attacks made on him by the vengeful Nikos. "...I…never meant to…kill him."

As he tried to get himself on his feet, innumerable pain coursing through his body from the multiple collisions, he started to recall the event that led to this moment. The arrogance and the glory, all fleeting desires in comparison to the deed he committed to the blonde.

For him, he just wanted to show off his strength to a fellow first year, perhaps brag to his team about his own skills. He never meant for his own strength, one that could easily take on the toughest of Grimm, to be the catalyst for one's death.

Even now as he tried to survive against an immovable force of power, he could still see the faces, the horrified faces of his peers, the fellow students that watched on as he snuffed out one of their own with his own weapon, The Executioner…an ironic name now that he thought back on it.

'This…is the end? I'm really going to die?' he thought to himself while his hands trembled a little, the guilt eating away at his sanity affecting his already fatigued body. 'I am…I really going to die? Heh...maybe I do deserve it, I killed someone. If it was a faunus…no, even if the species were different…the guilt would still be there. I'm a bully, but...I never wanted this to happen.'

As he felt the weight of his one, terrible sin amongst a sea of smaller vices anchor his mind to the devastating reality of his own actions, a loud buzzing sound came-

SHATTER!

ZIIIIIIEEEEIIIIIIII!

Right towards Cardin as he quickly grabbed his mace and hit the object, a familiar semi circular shield coated in black aura, away from him like a baseball, sending it flying right into the rightmost wall.

BAM!

And causing it to get lodged into the concrete as the former Beacon student looked around for any sign of the Mistrali champion.

'Damn it. No time to feel shitty, I need to stop her before she destroys the city, and me along with it!' he thought before seeing Pyrrha, floating in the air with a thick black aura covering her body, moving towards the broken window as she stepped into the building.

Clank.

Clank.

"Had enough?" Pyrrha growled, moving towards the former student as her sword transformed into its rifle form, taking aim at Cardin's head. "Or do I need to throw your murderous carcass out another building?"

"Pyrrha, just a moment." Cardin said while moving back a little towards the new anchor's desk. "Let's think this over, you can't just…kill me."

She frowned while keeping the rifle aimed at the teens' head.

"If you kill me, then you're going to be tried for murder as well." He said while his back hit the table, making him realize he really had no other way to escape the ticking time bomb known as Pyrrha Nikos. "And with the destruction you caused, it's not going to end well for you."

Click.

"Like I care. You killed Jaune."

"I know! I know, but I was going to leave town and never return to Vale." He said quickly while feeling the guilt slowly seep back into his heart. "Killing him was a complete accident, no not even that, it was a terrible mistake!"

"Mistake, MISTAKE!?" She snapped in rage, her aura expelling outwards to cause several nearby water pipes to twist into knots. "Killing Jaune was a mistake!? You little shit, you killed him! You killed the only person that saw me as a person! And for what? Being the best amongst your shitty friends!?"

As the former student flitched at the harsh yet truthful words, feeling the bluntness cut his very being like a rusted blade, he noticed that she was changing her weapon's form from its rifle mode to its spear form, giving him an idea as he activated the Fire Dust in his mace and-

WOOSH!

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!

Activated the emergency sprinklers via a ball of fire as he quickly used the confusion to run towards Pyrrha, bashing the helmet's left side and causing her to stumble backwards.

BAM!

BAM!

Blow after blow collided with the bronze armor, making several dents within its metallic hide, as he used the opportunity to get Pyrrha's aura down to zero to his advantage, hoping to neutralize her semblance and knock her out at the same time.

BAM!

BAM!

CLANK!

Cardin's eyes widened as Akoúo̱, Pyrrha's trademarked shield, flew towards Pyrrha's left arm and blocked The Executioner, preventing the intended blow to the face in the process, as she swung Miló and forced the ex Beacon student to block the attack with his weapon. 'Shit!'

Pyrrha growled before raising her left arm up and crushed the mace with her semblance, the metallic and Dust shards landing right onto the wet floor as she charged towards Cardin and impaled his left shoulder with her spear.

"AH!" he screamed as Pyrrha used all her strength and speed to tackle the bulkier opponent onto the table, breaking it in half as blood dripped from her visor and onto her chestplate.

"This ends here!" she yelled, her rage fueling her body as her shield arm was raised upwards, her intentions made clear as her semblance coated the bronze shield.

ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

'Shit!' Cardin thought as the shield began to spin clockwise at an alarming speed, water droplets forcibly ejected from its metallic surface by the intense speed. 'She's going to saw off my head!'

ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

As the shield spun faster and faster, Cardin's eyes darted around the room, looking for an object or weapon he could use to defend himself against the razor sharp blades of the shield, although in the back of his mind, he was sorely tempted to just let her end his own existence.

However, before his mind resigned itself to the bloody embrace of death, he saw a large wooden splinter, about the size of his hand and sticking out near the broken right side of the table.

ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

As the shield began to move towards Cardin's neck, his adrenaline making his brain's visual receptors work overtime and slowing the moment of death to a snail's crawl, the former student quickly kicked Pyrrha in the stomach with his left foot, pushing her back and stunning her in the process.

"Ah!" he cried out, having yanked the spear out of his shoulder with his left hand, before throwing the spear at Pyrrha.

Only for it to float near her face, her semblance keeping her own weapon from causing any real harm to her body.

"Idiot. Using my own weapon against me? ME!?" She smirked while reaching her arm to grasp her weapon once more. "You aren't even smart enough to lead your ow-"

POW!

"AH!" she cried out in surprise as Cardin tackled the champion, colliding with several television station cameras in the process, as her shield and spear went flying out of her hands from the collision.

As she tried to move her head upwards-

SQUISH!

SQUISH!

SQUISH!

She was stabbed through the visor with a large wooden sprinter by Cardin, in a state of adrenaline enduced panic, through the right eye, blood and the occasional gray matter spurting right onto the ex student's face.

"DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!" He screamed while continuously stabbing Pyrrha's eye, knowing that if he didn't stop her here and now, he would die in the most gruesome way possible. 'I WILL NOT DIE HERE, NOT NOW, NOT EVER!'

SQUISH!

SQUISH!

SQUISH!

Pyrrha's left hand tried to move upwards, to either summon one of her weapons or make the building collapse from her semblance, but after the fiftieth stab, her muscles became limp and fell upon the cold floor with a low clang.

"AH….ah….a….ah…h…a…h…" Cardin panted, the adrenaline slowly dying down as his hands shook, causing him to drop the splitter onto the ground and realize what he had just done. "...gods…oh…oh gods…" 'No…not again. Not again! NOT AGAIN!'

But as the weight of his actions began to crush his already guilty soul, the teen saw something flashing near his right side.

The blinking red light of a television studio camera, one aimed at his direction…

And currently online.

His eyes paled as he quickly turned towards the new anchor's desk, the screen fully activated during the scuffle with Pyrrha and currently playing a live feed of this very room.

'Oh…fucking…gods…' he thought before a single question entered his mind.

When did the video turn on?

As the teen stood up and moved slowly away from Pyrrha Nikos' corpse, several searchlights hit him from outside the building, several airships filled with trained Valerian police and Huntsmen, circled around the station.

"Freeze!" one of the Huntsmen yelled. "Hands in the air!"

"You're under arrest! Do NOT try anything!"

Cardin turned his head towards the lights as the screen went black. '...gods…why!?'

Bio: In this timeline, the events of canon occured as normal up until the very first spar between Jaune Arc and Cardin Winchester, where the first year leader of Team JNPR was struck down by Cardin, who utilized too much strength within his mace, The Executioner, on a direct blow to the boy's stomach, breaking his ribs and causing the bone fragments to puncture his heart, instantly killing him on the spot. Upon the blow being made, everyone in the facilities, including the perpetrator were horrified and demanded justice, thus the instant expulsion of Team CRDL and its immediate dissolvement. However, the justice was not enough as Pyrrha Nikos, her mind snapping upon seeing her crush's death, chose to don her family armor and use lethal force against the expelled murderer, taking no prisoners as she chases Cardin all over Vale, destroying buildings and vehicles with reckless abandonment with her semblance, Polarity. Terrified for his life and guilty for his part in Jaune's death, he tried to talk Pyrrha down and resolve this peacefully, but it was all in vain as she hunted him like a deer until he was backed into a corner and forced to defend himself from the Mistrali Champion's attacks, ending with Cardin, again, accidentally killing Pyrrha via a stabbing her with her own weapon. As the huntresses' body falls to the ground, the entire planet learned of this, from several news cameras taking videos of the devastation and placing it on live television, thus causing Cardin Winchester to advance from expelled murderer to Remnant's most wanted criminal in recorded history. Strange how one tiny little accident snowballs into a fate worse than death.
