Victor
Victor turns the TV volume up and Garfield looks uneasily at the door. They'd already been yelled at once this morning for being too loud. That time it was Garfield's fault, he tried showing Victor a video on his phone, but it connected to a blue tooth speaker in his backpack that went off at full blast. The nurses did not appreciate it. Being in the hospital reminds him of being at the library. He and his friends would goof off during study hall and always get shushed... But that was before.
It's Sunday. Garfield doesn't usually come on Sunday, but after yesterday's information dump, Victor doesn't mind him coming again so soon. After their talk, he feels a little better. Garfield gets it. He gets why being alive like this might not be enough... It feels like a heavy burden has been lifted from Victor's shoulders. Someone, even if it's a green kid who sucks at jokes, understands him.
On the TV, Victor has the news on. A TV reporter is talking about alien ship sightings in the area. A lot of alien ships. Enough that the military is getting concerned and the Justice League is involved. So far, the news doesn't have much information, just some footage of the ships and interviews with people who saw some type of battle go down between what looked like soldiers and a young woman. One of them tried to take a video, but his cellphone got broken. Whatever happened left three cars destroyed and a hole the size of an elephant in the side of a building.
"Wow," Garfield says. His eyes sparkle at the screen and Victor and tell he's enchanted.
"Yeah... I wonder what's gonna happen." If there's an invasion, will the Justice League
be able to handle it? If not, then what? What do these aliens want? To annihilate humanity, enslave it or just steal all their gold?
"What planet do you think they came from?" Garfield asks. As if Victor would know or even have a guess. It's probably some planet no one on earth has even discovered yet, let alone heard of.
"Probably not one they talk about in science class." Those ships are some next level technology. He'd love to get a closer look at one of those. He'd been thinking about building a car before the accident, but maybe he should have set his sights a little higher... Except that would make him his parent's son and he'd give anything not to be that right now...
The boys try to find more information about the aliens online, but other than a few shaky camera videos, there's no real information. All they can find are copies of the same info that the news story gave them. There are aliens hanging out around Gotham. A lot of them, and no one seems to know why. The Justice League hasn't officially released a statement, but they've been sighted near the ships, so it's assumed that they're working on it. Gotham PD is urging everyone to stay calm and stay away from them. That makes both boys rolls their eyes. As if.
If Victor wasn't stuck in a hospital bed, he'd be out looking for them too. Are they likely hostile, based on the numerous times aliens have come and tried to invade, conquer and/or destroy earth? Of course, that's a given. But there is still a 0.00001% chance that they'd let him go joy riding in their spaceship and that is a 0.00001% chance, that Victor cannot pass up.
"You're so lucky man, you should go see if you can see anything with your own eyes." Victor hasn't left the hospital in months. He can technically walk, but only when his parents activate his legs and they only do that to run tests. Never to let him go outside or leave... The last time he got to walk was last week. He can probably figure out how to activate them on his own, but it wasn't worth the earache he'd get from his parents about unstable technology. It took months for them to give him full use of his arms. Once he can use his legs whenever he wants, he's not sure what he'll do. He can't leave his room, let alone the hospital looking like this. People will think he's a freak and they'll be right. He is a freak.
"My parents would flip," Garfield shakes his head. "I barely convinced them to let me come here today." Victor isn't surprised. After everything Garfield told him, it's no wonder they have him on a tight leash. The kid has been through a lot.
"They must be worried about an invasion," Victor says. Garfield nods and looks away, like he's not saying something. His phone pings and he looks at it. After a millisecond, his fingers are flying faster than Victor's ever seen anyone type on a cellphone.
"What?" Victor asks. Garfield's face is completely lit. It's the happiest Victor has ever seen him. It might be the happiest he's ever seen anybody.
"How would you like to meet an alien?"
