"Hey, RyRy. Grams picked up a few more packs of colored penci…. Ryan?" Kara immediately lets the shopping bag fall to the floor not caring one bit about the thing spilling its content onto the floor as she speeds over to the upset cocoon her nephew had made on top of the bed.

They had made up a room of his own from what had been Jeremiah's study, but Ryan hadn't wasted any time in calming his mother's former room or at last Alex's side of the shared bedroom space for his own. His only changes to teenaged Alex's room being changing out the comforter on the bed and adding a few pictures of himself and an adult Alex to the small, clustered collection on the bedside table.

"Ryan sweetheart what's wrong?" Kara asks as another soft sniff of a sob reached her as the off-duty super immediately folded herself on the edge of the bed. Not that the little boy took up much room, but Kara also didn't want to crowd him, so she ended up levitating beside the upset little boy more than letting the mattress support her added weight.

"Kara?!"

The blonde looks over her shoulder at Eliza's nervous call of her name. "I don't know." Kara sighs in answer to the unspoken 'What's going on?' question of the elder woman's expression as she sets the collected content of the long-forgotten shopping bag on Ryan's desk.

It happened less and less since the adoption had gone through but Alex has admitted that there were nights Ryan would wake up from an afternoon nap or in the middle of the night in a panic as he relived the torment he'd suffered at CADMUS'S direction.

She knew she was no substitute for the safety Ryan felt with Alex when an episode like that would show up but Kara wasn't about to let that sway her from doing her best to offer her own version of comfort.

"I'll be right back." Eliza decides giving her worried middle daughter her best reassuring motherly smile before departing with a whispered "Trust me." That only Kara would be able to catch.

With a low sigh, Kara redirects her attention back to the young boy quietly crying into her big sister's pillow "Ryan." She whispered a little louder this time in case the boy hadn't heard her the first time over his quiet sobs. "What's wrong little warrior?" Kara questioned in a soft tone switching from English to Kryptonian as she asks.

Ryan had gingerly asked to be allowed to learn her, Linda, and Alex's secret language as he knew it after catching the three sisters having a talk 'funny but cool' a few days after the raid on one of CADMUS labs that had first brought the boy into their lives.

Even now she gets a small warmth in her chest at being able to talk in her native tongue. Happy all over again that she wouldn't ever lose that little part of her first home after Krypton itself had been destroyed. After they'd crashed on Earth, she and Linda had done everything they could to keep their off-world heritage alive even when at first their attempts to hold onto Krypton only angered their Earth sister, even more, when she'd catch them 'talking in code' as Alex had originally thought of it.

Instead of answering Ryan only rolls over to both tug his worried auntie closer to him and toss the comforter over both their heads drawing her into his 'safety cave' as she remembered Alex calling it.

"Talk to me kiddo what's wrong?" Kara questioned grateful she'd left her glasses on the kitchen table beside her laptop as she nuzzled her face against the top of Ryan's head when the boy snuggles so trusting against her solid form as his shoulders shook in more upset sobs.

"She's moving. Detective D. She's moving." Ryan admits between more upset hiccupped sobs.

That did puzzle the blonde for a few beats until she used her x-ray vision to look through the other side of the cover cave towards the desk in the corner and the open laptop sitting on top of it. Kara made a quick read of the still pulled-up message Ryan must have been talking about.

Even now she can't keep from smiling fondly at the gesture when she remembered that after learning of the young boy's distrust of all things electronic after his time as a CADMUS test subject Winn had decided to build the boy a computer that Ryan could trust wouldn't be tracked by his former carports. It was also thought his friendship with Ryan had been introduced to his now favored comic series. Warrior Angel.

"How much of her message did you read, little warrior?" Kara asks gingerly carding her fingers through the younger child's hair as she asks. She already had an idea, but she just wanted to check.

"First lines." Ryan answers in a broken whisper "Why?" the boy asks his red-rimmed brown eyes flinging understanding blue when he lifts his chin to meet his auntie's gaze.

"Hang on a second, okay?" Kara asks this time in English before she gingerly untangles from Ryan's hold to retrieve the laptop and bring it over to the bed. If she wasn't positive the action would have hurt Ryan's feelings, she would have laughed a little at the misunderstanding the message had caused considering the opening line its sender had started with.

"Mind if I read it to you?" Kara asks now laid out on a small strip of the bed her legs stretched out down the bed and her back propped against the headboard. Ryan immediately snuggled against her side just enough to catch sight of the computer screen.

"Will you read like this?" Ryan asks his tone hopeful as his eyes find Kara's once again "please."

Kara's eyes stung with happy tears as her free arm wrapped around her sister's son hugging him closer against her side. "Whatever you want, RyRy."

Before she could start however a knock from the direction of the bedroom's open door had both looking up.

"Sorry to interrupt." Eliza starts off mostly due to Kara's pouting expression for whatever it was her adoptive mother had just intentionally stalled. "but I was going through a few more of Alex's things. For the party, you know but I did find something that if memory serves even Alex said was good at curing bad day blues."

At this, even Kara perked up when Eliza brings out the plashed toy from behind her back with a small flourish.

Kara held her tongue on the fact that last, she'd seen her sister's second favored childhood toy hadn't been wearing a Warrior Angel toy-sized tee shirt as it was now.

"And I could really use a taste tester for those cookies I left cooling in the kitchen." The grandmother sighs after passing the toy to her grandson. "Just don't tell Alex about it when we call later okay?" she adds gently ruffling Ryan's hair as the boy cradles the otter against his chest.

"You let us have cookies for breakfast all the time when we were younger." Kara argues with a giggled laugh.

"Go ahead Ry. I wanna talk to auntie K for a second, okay?"

Ryan nods his head slowly in agreement pausing long enough to hug both his Grams and his Auntie before he and his newest given friend head downstairs to the promised cookies.

"So, what's wrong?" Eliza asked in a low whisper still watching the door as she moves to sit down on the edge of the bed as Kara moves into Ryan's now empty space to give her more room.

Kara smiles as she nudges the computer over allowing her mother to read the message still pulled up on the screen. "Ry only read the first line not the rest of it." She says by way of explanation as she leans her head against her Earth Mother's shoulder as Eliza reads over the troublesome message that had first seemed to have upset her grandson.

"I think is really sweet you wanted to surprise your mother. So responsible wanting to do this by yourself as much as your able." Eliza read skimming over the message. "I do want to tell you I've moved recently for my job…." She continues then pauses with a whispered "No wonder he was so upset."

"Keep reading Mom." Kara coaxes still twisting a few strains of her mother's long hair around her fingers as Eliza does as she asked and finishes the line this time in her head and not reading it aloud.

"National City." Eliza laughed looking from the screen to her daughter once she'd finished.

"National City." Kara echoes resting her head against Eliza's shoulder.
