The screen began to bubble and boil as the familiar silver door rose from it's depths, the thick purple chains corroding and breaking apart as the door opened up and bathed everything in dark purple.
From the tainted light, came a single red eye that glared at the screen before the door slammed shut and everything became static, a crumbling rose symbol appearing every so often as the title began to form.
The Ruinverse: Chapter Eighty Two, Man Proposes, God Disposes.

-Remnant, Somewhere on the very edge of Anima-
Woooooooosh!
The cold wind currents blew across the desolate landscape, devoid of plants sans the occasional poison ivy, lichen, decaying pine trees and deadly nightshade, as the neverending snow capped mountain range loomed in the distance.
The sun, reddish orange in the evening sky, began to set in the west as everything…was abnormally quiet.
No birds, no insects, not even the sound of growling Grimm that plagued the world since time in memorial.
It was just the wind, the rustling of decaying leaves, and-
SNAP!
Wiiiiissssshhh!
Rumble!
The sound of falling stones as a figure, obscured by the ever growing shadows of twilight, ran deeper and deeper into the mountainous wasteland as if their very lives depended upon the swiftness of their legs.
As the camera zoomed closer and closer to the figure, the nearby mountains became closer and closer as well, revealing a deep dark cave on the right side of the mountainside, which seemed to be covered in a thick layer of moss.
Rumble!
Rumble!
Snap!
Snap!
Broken bleached brambles and trigs broke under the figure's feet as they raced towards the cave, hot breath being expelled from their mouth at rapid intervals.
"Ah…ah…ah…ah..ah…I..need to hide…" a feminine voice panted as the figure stopped at the edge of the cave to catch their breath, revealing themselves as a tall fair skinned woman with long straight pale platinum blonde hair that went down her back and was tied on the top in a small bun, two large locks that went down her shoulders with a single lock of hair framed over the left eye and curved down to her shoulder, light blue eyes, a E cup chest and large ass, long pale lilac nails, large gray circular earrings, wearing a white two piece dress, a sleeveless diagonally overlapping white backless pleated top, a raised pale blue halter-top square collar adorned with an aquamarine rhombus crystal on the clavicle, two small white rhombuses on the sides of the main crystal, dull brown bracers, a long white high-waisted skirt with a faint purple tint sporting white diamond emblems and white wavy lines near the bottom hem that is ruffled around the waist, a purple sash, a thin leather strip with an aquamarine rhombus crystal over the sash and faint purple heeled flats, in the process. "I…need to hide…"
This was Salem, former wife of Ozma the warrior wizard and…currently the only immortal on the planet, a cursed sorceress that tried and failed to defeat the gods and their laws.
And right now, she was running from something…something she didn't account for or had a backup plan for.
"Ah…ah..ah..ah…" she panted while stopping near the entrance way, placing her right hand on the side of the mountain to catch her breath. "They…won't find…me here…"
SNAP!
Her ears perked up as she turned towards the empty wasteland behind her, her eyes widening as she quickly ran into the cave.
'How? How did they find me?!' she thought as the sound of snapping twigs could be heard in the background, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps. 'I made sure they weren't able to find me anywhere in the world!'
Moving deeper and deeper into the dark cave, Salem found herself in pitch darkness, the perfect cover against her unknown adversaries, whatever they might be, until it is safe to travel once more.
'I can't see, but I must resist using magic. If I do, they will find me.' she thought while the sound of footsteps could be heard from behind, making her heart beat faster in fear.
Swish.
Snap!
Russle.
Russle.
Salem ran deeper and deeper into the dark yet cool cave system, unable to tell up from down or right from left within the darkness, the sound of footsteps becoming more apparent in her ears as she felt her heart about to explode from adrenaline.
Yet she couldn't stop, she mustn't stop for any reason. She needed to be strong in the face of this adversary, for she had survived the gods' wrath, she could survive this.
SLAM!
Shaking her head, she placed her hands outwards into the darkness, only to feel solid stone in her path, an indicator of the worst possible outcome.
'Shit! A dead end!'
Russle.
Russle.
Russle.
Russle.
Her blood froze within her veins as she instinctively cast a spell with her hands, producing a small flame from her body as shadows began to form on the cave walls, distorted and warped from the light.
Wooooosh!
TWANG!
"AH!" Salem cried out in surprise as her arms were pinned by two hooked spears, followed by two to her legs, thick yet tattered rope quickly restraining the sorceress' body against the wall as she began to struggle, drawing blood from the tight wicker rope.
"Caught her, finally." said a gruff male voice, causing Salem's eyes to dilate inwards with fear.
"She was a hard one to find." said a feminine voice as the sound of footsteps moved closer to the restrained widower, the flames in her hands starting to die out, albeit slowly. "Never thought she chose this part of the world to hide away from justice."
"Enough talk! I need food!" yelled a desperate masculine voice from the darkness.
"You will get it, after we are done with the preparations."
"But I need food!"
"Be quiet! You'll get it soon enough!"
As the footsteps moved closer to her direction, the shadows began to become less distorted and more….humanoid, each one numbering in the hundreds as three shadows moved closer to Salem's position.
The one on her left was a tall skeletal tan skinned man with thin black hair covering his entire scalp, black eyes, a large unkempt black beard that was dangling from his chin to his legs and had thin sticks sticking out of the broken knots within the hairy mat, dark blue tattoos on his wrists, head, forehead, knuckles and neck, wearing nothing but a tattered brown fur robe that was wrapped around his waist by a broken gold cat-like skull, who growled at the sorceress with his chipped teeth.
The one on her right was a tall skeletal pale skinned man with long unkempt gray hair that covered his face and went down to his legs, dull black eyes, thick 'U' shaped markings on his arms and left shoulder that seemingly formed black scab-like bumps, wearing nothing but a torn dark purple cloak that went across the entire right side of his body, who was moving his fingered up and down with anticipation as his scab filled lips salivated like a wild dog.
And the one in between the two figures was a tall skeletal pale skinned woman with long thinning black hair that trailed down the back towards her legs before splitting at the tips, light gold eyes, a E cup chest and small ass, long broken white nails, wearing an extremely tattered sleeveless dark purple dress with gold lining that exposed her torso, back, upper chest and legs, who glared at the sorceress with malice as her jagged teeth formed a shark-like grin.
These…humans were all too familiar with the immortal as she felt her heart stop with fear, the mass of malnourished creations of the gods growling at her like wild animals, dragging the broken remains of swords and spears within their clawed hands or broken teeth.
"Salem, the so-called immortal." spoke the figure on Salem's left with a growl. "The one that told us that we can be 'masters of our own fate'. How does it feel being trapped by your own lies now?"
"I-"
"You really ruined everything, haven't you?" the central figure interrupted with a growl. "Your whole plan to destroy the gods was a failure and now…you're going to pay for all the suffering we now endure!"
"Yeah! Pay! You will pay for making us starve!" the figure on Salem's right yelled while snarling at the immortal. "For making ME starve to nothing!"
Salem recoiled as best she could from the man's face, feeling disgusted at their mere presence yet unable to form a spell to escape this predicament, the vast unseen numbers outnumbering the immortal and her limited amount of stamina along with her being bound to the cave's rocky wall. 'Damn them, damn the gods for causing the end of magic…and the end of reason!'
Broken white nails traced against the woman's left cheek, causing thin lines of blood to form against the fair skin as the leader of this band of starving 'beasts' narrowed her eyes.
"Your war brought this fate to you. You 'stole' from the gods and now we have our lives stolen, the great kingdoms of this world are now tearing each other apart for food that will never appear again once their limited resources disappear like dew." she said coldly as several of the skeletal 'humans' began raising their blades up near Salem's body. "But you will remedy that little issue for us."
"W-Wait! You can't do this!" Salem yelled as the blades moved closer to her arms, legs and neck. "This is madness! Complete savagery! It's no-"
SWISH!
PLOP!
PLOP!
PLOP!
Within the span of a single heartbeat, the limbs and head of the immortal fell upon the ground, blood dripping from the stumps before the blades continued to cut the body into a disgusting mass of blood and broken bones, the 'humans' quickly scurrying to the mass like hungry wolves as they began to consume the flesh, knowing that in a matter of moments, the immortal will return to life once more.
SQUISH!
RIIIPPPP!
CRUNCH!
SQUISH!
The gnawing of bone echoed across the cave as the head of Salem, still fearful and with her lips open as if to speak to an unmoving crowd, was crushed against the force of a small rock, the skeletal fingers pulling out bits of gray matter and the occasional tuff of scalped hair.
CRUNCH!
CRUNCH!
RIP!
SQUISH!
"More!" the second man growled while consuming a severed left arm. "More!"
"This will last us for a week, no, a month!" the first man said with joy as he pulled the sinuses out of a piece of thigh.
"But we must hurry!" the lead female said while seeing golden light forming from the restraints, a skeleton beginning to form from the very ether itself, as she stared at two skeletal men. "We can't let her escape again, or we shall surely die. You two, when she re-forms, knock her out and find a deep pit, we will make that her cage."
"Yes, your majesty." Both said at once while biting down on two eyeballs.
(A few minutes later)
Siiiiiiiiisssssshhhhh.
The two 'men' grunted in pain as they dragged the woman, her skull still reforming its muscles and flesh, deeper and deeper into the cave, the rope bound body occasionally hitting a jagged stone that cut her flesh and left a trail of blood within the umbra clad floor.
Pop!
"Ah! My arm!"
"I know, my legs aren't like they used to be." the second man groaned while using his free hand to navigate the darkness. "If I had magic, this would be much easier."
"Yeah, and we could have food to last a lifetime. But thanks to this immortal witch, the gods took away that power and left us to starve!"
"The sooner she's in that pit, the better off the rest of us will be."
"And who knows? One day the gods might return and we can have our food again."
"The day that happens is the day this witch dies, which is never." the second man frowned before feeling an empty abscess where the floor was and smirked. "This is deep enough, throw her down before she wakes up."
Ssssssiiiiiiissssssssshhhhhhhhhhh.
Woooosh!
Clang!
Clang!
BAM!
The sound of broken bones and falling stones echoed across the caverns, the body of Salem falling ever deeper into the void, never to see the outside world ever again.
CRASH!
(Many years later)
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
The sound of falling water rang across the dark void as the sound of pacing footsteps was harmonized by the dripping liquid, the only indicator for any semblance of time or constant pattern.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
The timeless abyss, the constant repetition of water and shuffling feet…an almost hypnotic melody to the untrained ear yet…it was another form of torment for the abyss' only occupant.
"They will be here soon. Gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods, gods. This is neverending." a voice spoke out suddenly, disturbing the void's previous melody in the process. "They just keep coming. There…there is no end. Gods, why!? Why why why!?"
As the voice continued to panic, the sound of scraping could be heard, followed by a strange unearthly clicking that seemingly drowned out the dripping in its entirety.
"Why can't I die?! I suffered enough, I realized that now." the voice muttered to themselves. "I know I fucked up and doomed myself with self destruction…but why don't they return!? Why can't they save me from this pit!? WHY!?"
SSSSCCCCIIICCCCCCCHHHH!
The footsteps stopped in their tracks as the sound of cracking could be heard, followed by the scraping of something sharp against the stone exterior.
"No, not again!" The voice yelled out as a large flame formed from the bottom of the void, revealing….the form of Salem, her eyes covered in black circles as her clothes were dirty and ripped, her long hair unbounded and covering the ground like a trail as she looked around in a panic. "I will not let you do this to me again! I'll fight you all!"
SSSSCCCCIIICCCCCCCHHHH!
SSSSCCCCIIICCCCCCCHHHH!
"S-Stand back!" she stuttered in terror as her head turned from left to right, darting her eyes to locate anything out of the ordinary. "I mean it!"
SSSSCCCCIIICCCCCCCHHHH!
Click.
Click.
Her eyes dilated inwards as the clicking sound moved closer and closer to her, sweat formed down her brow as the flames occasionally caught a glimpse of a pale white material, only for it to fade back into the darkness that spawned it.
"I will not be your dinner plate! I will not be s-scared again!" she yelled before the clicking sound suddenly ceased, making her tense up in terror. 'Gods…if you're listening in on me…please….'
The fire began to slowly die out, the sorceress' willpower faltering and causing her magic to falter as well, as the immortal felt like she was…being watched.
'Please….save me.'
CRUNCH!
"AAAAAHHH!" Salem screamed as several pale white arms, each lined with bone-like claws at the ends of each finger, gripped her from every direction, breaking her bones as the fire was extinguished forever.
CRUNCH!
RRRRIIIPPP!
"RRRROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR!"
As the sound of torn flesh echoed across the blackened void, several pairs of glowing red eyes stared at the screen, peering at the very end of the known 'walls' of reality as a deep guttural growl and several clicking noises emanate from the abyss itself.
"AAAAAAAAA-"

Bio: In this timeline, during the final days of Ancient Remnant, Salem's first rebellion against the Twin Gods fails due to humanity's inability to successfully defeat their creators with magic. Yet, in an unexpected change to the canon of that timeline, a unique one in both the Ruinverse and the RWBYverse as a whole, the God of Darkness decided that obliterating the current humanity outright was too merciful for the crime of trying to destroy the divine creators, thus before he left, he took not only the power of magic away from all but Salem, but…also destroyed all forms of animal life, including the Grimm, and edible plant life, leaving only toxic or inedible plants to keep the oxygen levels in check and nothing else to sustain the numerous civilizations across the globe. Soon, humanity began to starve away, unable to find anything edible in this dark world, as Salem remains fit and healthy due to her immortality trapping her in the prime of her life and preventing her from starving to death like the rest of her kin. As the years went on, civilization began to fall apart as humanity is at the edge of complete extinction, blaming Salem for their troubles as she told them lies about becoming the masters of their fate, yet now are about to become a distant memory to the universe. Salem, however, believes that it wasn't her fault and ignores the increasing attempts on her life, although she begins to realize that the people might be right about their accusations…but soon, she discovers that the remnants of humanity have come up with a dark idea for survival. Since the sorceress was the only living thing that is still healthy and is immortal due to the gods, why not just capture her and cut her flesh off for a never ending supply of fresh sustenance? Fearing for her life, Salem attempted to hide in a cave on the other side of the world, yet she was found and bound to the cave walls by study rope, where she was cut up and eaten by humanity, only for her curse to activate and reform her body…only to be pushed into a deep pit and forced to become humanity's only source for food. Over the generations, humanity devolved into a savage cannibalistic species that have forgotten the past and view Salem as only prey, the witch's mind breaking after an endless cycle of regeneration and consumption. In a way, humanity has become the masters of their own fate…but have become worse than the Grimm in their never ending hunger for food. For in this Age of Famine, the gods have disposed humanity of their souls and man has proposed their will upon the god's hated foe, the eternal food source of all.
