The screen began to bubble and boil as the familiar silver door rose from it's depths, the thick purple chains corroding and breaking apart as the door opened up and bathed everything in dark purple.

From the tainted light, came a single red eye that glared at the screen before the door slammed shut and everything became static, a crumbling rose symbol appearing every so often as the title began to form.

-Remnant, Somewhere in Anima-

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

SNAP!

Within the dark pine forest, covered in perpetual gloom despite it being a bright sunny afternoon, occasionally littered with large bamboo stalks taller than a normal human, the sound of snapping twigs echoed across the area as small squirrels and chipmunks ran up the nearby trees in a panic, sensing something was amiss.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

Small thin needles fell from the treetops as a figure moved through the underbrush, disturbing the local wildlife in the process while seemingly avoiding the overgrown tree roots sticking out from the ground every so often.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

SNAP!

The figure quickly moved through the forest, their head glancing from side to side in search of predators, as they moved deeper and deeper into the untamable woodlands, eager to escape this place and locate their future destination before nightfall.

Yet, the figure couldn't help but feel as if something was watching them from the darkness, possibly a wild animal or possibly…a bandit. Yes, possibly a bandit, one of those less fortunate souls that stole to survive.

A commonplace occupation in this world, but this…didn't feel like a bandit's watchful eyes, but something more….primeval.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

CRASH!

"Grrrrrrrrrr."

The figure stopped in their tracks as they slowly turned around, coming face to face with a massive Grimm, a Creep to be exact, with a single missing red eye and abnormally long arms, whose breath stuck of decay and its jaws oozed black slime as the very tree branches broke from its swinging tail.

"RRRRRRRRRROOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!"

The figure felt the hot breath permeating their nostrils as the Grimm began to sniff them, seemingly trying to sense their presence through smell.

"Grrrrrrr." it growled before backing away and walked past the figure, disappearing into the forest as if a living shadow.

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

The figure stood there, their expression undetectable within the gloom of the forest yet, their posture was erect and brimming with confidence, as if they had done this many times before, as their body turned in the direction of the Grimm and began walking down the darkened path.

(Some time later)

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

The figure moved slowly across the underbrush, the leaves falling under their feet, as the gloom of the forest was pierced by a small orange glow, a few feet away from the traveler.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

As the figure moved closer to the unearthly glow, the sound of footsteps and the occasional chattering of hushed whispers could be heard within their eardrums, causing the figure to slow their movement to a snail's pace.

Russle.

And lo, from beyond the forest, illuminated by a dark moonlit sky, was a large meadow-like clearing with a large stream cutting through the landscape and into the center of a small village composed of various ash, oak and pine wood lumber along with duckweed laced roofs.

The figure looked upon the village, a large wooden wall of the thickest ash tree encircling the village and guarded by a handful of men, each one drunkenly stumbling about and slacking off in their duties, as they turned their head towards the left most side of the wall and began pulling nearby branches off the trees and bushes.

(A few minutes later)

WOOOSH!

"AAAAHHHHH!"

The sky blazed with orange light as the village burned to the ground, red hot flames licking across the wooden structures like starving wolves as the people screamed and panicked, either running away into the forest or left for dead on the ground, their bodies hacked to pieces as blood oozed into the carbonized soil.

Crackle!

Crackle!

CRASH!

Burning wood fell from their supports as a figure walked through the flames, undaunted by the heat, as they moved inwards towards the village's center, the people panicking around them and getting crushed by the debris every so often.

As the figure walked past the scared villagers, their shadow slickered outwards due to the fire, one of the villagers, armed with a pole sporting a light blue crystal point, took notice of the figure and pointed the weapon at them.

"You!" the man frowned while the figure moved closer to the center of the villain, where a large hut composed of black oak tree hut stood tall against the sea of flames. "Who are you!? A bandit? An intruder!?"

"..."

"Answer me or I will kill you!"

"..."

"ANSW-"

WOOSH!

SQUISH!

The man's eyes widened in horror as his hands were cut clean off, causing him to scream out in pain before his face was cut in half by a jagged weapon, causing the top of his head to fall to the ground along with the rest of his body, the flames moving closer to his corpse as the figure callously walked over the recently deceased and towards the hut.

(A few seconds later)

BAM!

The thin maple wood door went crashing onto the wooden floor as the figure stepped into the hut, the entire structure comprising of various animal furs hanging by strange three pronged metallic hooks on the walls, a large stone cauldron bubbling with a strange viscous ooze, and strange stone statues of humanoid Grimm, which snarled at the figure's direction.

And within the center of the room, sitting on a wooden chair, was a tall pale skinned woman with short graying blonde hair, dull gray eyes, a D cup chest and large ass, a long light blonde prehensile tail with gray fur on the tip, wearing a dull gray long sleeved tunic, dull white bandages covering her hands with small dark spots near the fingertips, a long dark brown hooded cloak, a small light brown rope-like belt, baggy brown trousers and black boots, whose expression seemed neutral and unresponsive to the screams outside the hut.

"..."

"I know why you're here, bandit." the older woman said while not making eye contact with the figure. "And you will not find what you seek."

"..."

"This attack on the village will be for not, as have all the other villages you have destroyed." the woman said as the figure moved closer to the woman. "Your quest will fail."

Creak.

Creak.

Creak.

SWISH!

"AAAAH!" The woman cried out in pain as the figure bent down and picked up her severed tail, which twitched from side to side before the figure threw it into the cauldron.

SPLASH!

"I will not be denied." spoke a cold feminine voice, as the glow of the burning orange flames outside illuminated their form, revealing a tall fair skinned young girl with long dull red hair sporting thin black tips that went to her hips, silver eyes, a thick vertical scar going down her left eye to her throat, dark gray burns on her right eye and lips, a G cup chest and small ass, wearing a long sleeved dark brown tunic with jagged black crystal lining, thick brown leather gloves with thin jagged red crystals sewed into the knuckles, a long hooded dark green cape that went down to her feet with thick jagged light green crystals jutting from the fabric's exterior, a large gray furred bag around her right shoulder with curved fangs lining the opening flap, a thin black belt, a black thigh length skirt, tight dark brown trousers, dull gray rattlesnake skinned boots, and holding two large arm length black axs with long jagged dark purple points at the heel, thin rune-like symbols on the sides and long gray chains hammered into the knobs of each and were connected to the tunic's shoulders by two chain links, in her hands, whose expression was filled with ambitious malice. "I will not allow my dream, one I held since my childhood, to be snuffed away by the words of an old monkey like you."

"Ah…ah…" the older woman panted in pain as the ax wielding girl pushed the crystalline blades near her throat, causing blood to ooze down her tunic and onto the ground.

"Now, I will ask this once, monkey." she growled while her eyes seemed to become bloodshot, the older woman giving her a defiant glare. "Where is the lamp?"

"You…don't know what lies at the end of all….this quest….will doom us all…"

"You and your kind said the same thing." the girl growled in anger. "So did everyone else I questioned. But you are short sighted old fools, never thinking beyond the confines of our villages. Never stopping to think WHY our species must be the prey to the Grimm? To never question the words of our tribe leaders and blindly allow our kind to act like scavenging crows. I am not a simple bandit, I am a dreamer. One that will find out why our kind must hide in the deepest inhospitable places in this world and why we can't fight back against those monsters."

"...this path will consume you, just as it consumed the gods."

Her eyes narrowed before pushing the blades deeper into the woman's neck, causing more blood to fall upon the ground. "If you can't tell me the nice way, I will force it out of your bleeding carcass!"

As the woman screamed in pain, the younger bandit noticed the woman's eyes were darting between her and a closed bear skull hanging on the left side of the hut.

"Mmmm…" she smirked while pulling the axs away, allowing the woman to fall to the ground as she walked towards the skull. "I see, so this is where you hid them. Clever little monkey."

SNAP!

Ripping the skull's lower jaw open with her right hand, she pulled a small dull brown parchment with a white scepter emblem with a circular point sporting eleven triangular notches on the sides and a vertical slit-like eye in the center, on its back and grinned.

"Ah, a 'relic of the gods'. Perfect." she smirked as the older woman began to twitch, her skin becoming even paler as her eyes began to flicker between consciousness and unconsciousness. "Lucky you, you get to live after all."

"Ah…a..h…this…will….doom…as…all…"

The woman frowned before walking out of the hut, the flames moving closer and closer to the village's center. "Stubborn old monkey."

As the woman walked out of the doorway, she suddenly turned around and threw her ax at the old woman's face, splitting it in half as the screen was covered in blood.

"And I lied about letting you live, beast." she growled while the screen began to fade to black. "Ruby Briar is no friend to man or beast, just herself." 'And once I find the lamp, I shall be the one to fix this fucked up world, even if I have to burn it to the ground to do so.'

Bio: In this timeline, during the formation of the world itself, the God of Darkness accidentally displaced some of his creations, the Grimm, into Remnant's very core, condemning them to spend eternity under the ground and unable to escape to the sunlit surface ever again. Thus, for over a few million years of isolation, the Grimm, originally a simple form of insectoid-like weevils, began to evolve a specialized hive mind capable of forming a massive humanoid-like creature that can better interact with its prison, which also had an unexpected side effect of gaining the ability to absorb energy, both magical and naturally occurring, from anything they consumed. However, this cycle of evolution and consumption allowed for a negative effect on the planet's crusts to occur, where the decrease in rich magical and energy laced materials that fuel Remnant's complex systems caused the soil and rocks to degrade, creating massive earthquakes on the surface that threaten the survival of all sentient species. In light of these disasters, newly reunited lovers, Salem and Ozma, chose to venture into Remnant's core to locate the source of the quakes, only to accidentally discover the uncontrollable 'Grimm' swarm and activate their territorial instincts, creating a frenzy that threatened their very lives. Unable to defeat the swarm utilizing either magic or the relics, as their powers were absorbed by the mass of insectoid Grimm, Ozma decided to use the Relic of Creation and the Relic of Choice to trap them in a never ending feedback loop, one where both the swarm and the immortals would continuously fight to the death and then return one second before their inevitable demises, to prevent the Grimm from overwhelming the surface world. Yet, in his haste to contain the swarm for eternity, Ozma forgot to tell the spirits of the relics to KEEP the hive's unique ability to absorb all forms of energy within the feedback loop itself, allowing the unique properties to spread out of the soil over time and quickly form a second 'ozone layer' over the planet itself. This layer of energy nullified the properties of all forms of energy sans fire, from Dust to electrically charged objects, yet…the new atmospheric anomaly would also affect the humans and faunus of Remnant, negating the powers of semblances, aura and the famed Silver Eyes. Now forever lost to the next generations, the world would become a much more deadly place, where humanity and faunus kind would be unable to defend themselves from the Grimm and, without a proper civilization or the means to develop said civilization, various technologies and societies were rendered extinct as small pockets of survivors would become opportunistic tribes, scattered and unable to communicate with each other. Yet for one Ruby Briar, this world would mold her into a dreaded bandit that prayed on the weak and helpless to survive, unable to tangle with the Grimm unless under extreme circumstances as she was curious about why humanity had to stay in small pockets instead of just overcoming their adversaries and establishing a 'city', a concept only mentioned in myths and legends. For many years, this survivor would ponder this dilemma until she learned of the Relic of Knowledge, the only surviving relic from Ozma's time that was hidden before his imprisonment to help bring civilization back to Remnant if anything happened to him, and decided to hunt down the magical object to find some form of comfort to her troubles. Through sheer bloodlust and determination, she carved a path of blood to the relic's location and once she found it….learned the deadly truth of why humanity is weakened. Realizing that the only way to gain the power that was 'rightfully hers' was to slay the Grimm, dubbed Aura Eaters, she decided to locate the very core of Remnant and unleash them into the world, to challenge them to single combat and slay them for their powers. Yet that dream…is a halcyon dream, one that has no place in this world…a world without hope…a world without a future…an Auraless World. But soon….the dream shall end, by the hands of its supposed 'savior'.
