The screen began to bubble and boil as the familiar silver door rose from it's depths, the thick purple chains corroding and breaking apart as the door opened up and bathed everything in dark purple.

From the tainted light, came a single red eye that glared at the screen before the door slammed shut and everything became static, a crumbling rose symbol appearing every so often as the title began to form.

The Ruinverse: Chapter Ninety One, Empress of Self Destruction.

-Remnant, Anima, Mistral, Haven Academy, Headmaster's Office-

SMASH!

CRASH!

SMASH!

"Nothing! Nothing but useless books on fairy tales!'

SMASH!

"And Mistraliware!"

SMASH!

Books and shattered glass lined the half circular office as a figure continued to rummage through the office in frustration, a white and emerald green tea set unexpectedly crashing against the nearby wall and obliterating it upon impact.

"Ugh!" the figure grumbled while moving towards the right wall, punching it with their right fist as the plaster cracked and a dark passageway was revealed. "This is fucking RIDICULOUS!"

WOOOOSH!

BOOOOOOM!

Hot burning red flames shot out of the figure's arm as the passageway was illuminated by the heat, the screeching sound of an unknown animal echoing down the burning passageway as the figure quickly held their right arm tightly with their left, red cracks forming along their skin for a brief moment.

"Ah…stop…fighting me!" the figure growled while the cracks began to fade away. "Fucking powers, I am their master…they need to obey me!"

WOOSH!

Red flames shot from the figure's eyes, illuminating the room for a second before dying away, making the figure grunt in anger before ax-kicking the mahogany table in half in a rage.

"I will not lose control to a tool! I am a Branwen, I am Mistral's empress!" the figure yelled as the chandelier's candles illuminated the room once more, revealing a tall tan skinned woman with short semi spiked brown hair, icy blue eyes, a D cup chest and wide ass, a black bird-like tattoo with several open flowers on her upper left shoulder, wearing a light brown sleeveless vest with dark brown panels on the top, a dark brown buckled strap on the back of the vest, a torn partially unbuttoned sleeveless white shirt with a slightly turned up collar, a black bra, a narrow dark brown choker, dark brown fingerless wrist length right glove with a large cuff, dark brown fingerless elbow length left glove, a dark brown vambrace covering the left hand, a brown belt with a brown pouch on the right hip, maroon jeans with dark pink lining sporting a rolled up right cuff, dark brown calf guards with a black garter styled strap on the right leg, maroon socks, and dark brownish beige lace-up white lined boots with folded over sides, standing over the remains of the table with a frustrated snarl on her face. "I will not be weak like the rest of humanity!"

As the woman growled in frustration, she stepped over the shards of wood and opened the curtains, revealing a burnt city of carbonized wood and stone as hurricane gale winds encircles the boundaries of the city, the sky nothing more than a swirling mass of gray, black and faint crimson red lighting.

"I took over this city, I became its empress! I did all of this instead of hiding in the badlands of Anima, and yet this power defies me!" she growled while the storm seemed to increase in intensity, the winds blowing the remains of buildings and vehicles high into the sky in the process. "I am its master, not the other way around!"

Knock knock knock knock!

"WHAT!?" she snapped while lighting shot from her body, obliterating a nearby bookcase and turning it into ash.

Creak.

"Vernal-" spoke a tall blonde man while opening the twin doors, only for a bolt of lightning hitting the wall next to him. "AH!"

"It's EMPRESS Vernal you imbecile!" She snapped in rage as her eyes glowed bright red. "Now tell me why you're interrupting your empress or I will gut you like a fish, with my teeth!"

The man gulped in fear before pointing behind him. "T-There is someone to see you."

"Kick them out then, I'm busy." Vernal frowned while turning her head towards the window.

"But this chick's saying she's a Branwen."

"...what?" she growled while slowly turning around, her eyes glowing bright red.

"Y-Yeah, she's standing in the grand hall. Looking for you."

Vernal narrowed her eyes while walking past the man, the windstorm outside growing more intense every second. "This better be good, for your sake mortal."

SLAM!

The man flinched as the door slammed back into place, the walls cracking from the impact as Vernal stormed down the hallway, his expression forming a dark frown of hate. "I hope she kills you, usurping traitorous bitch."

(A few minutes later)

-Grand Hall-

Clank.

Clank.

Clank.

Clank.

Moving through the green hallway towards the dark brown guard railing, two double flanking brown rectangular stairways on either side of her as the torn and heavily damaged paintings hung across the upper and lower portions of the hall, Vernal snarled as she looked upon the light brown and white carpet in front of her, the marble statue of an unknown woman in golden chains holding a circular platform underneath her feet.

And lo, staring back at the 'empress' direction as the bodies of Branwen Tribe members littered the ground in an unconscious state, was a tall fair skinned woman with long golden hair that went to her hips and faded to pale gold near the tips, a cowlick on top of her head, lilac eyes, a F cup chest and wide ass, wearing a short sleeved tan jacket that went to her exposed midriff with golden brown piping, puffy black cuffed sleeves with two gold buttons, a low cut yellow crop top with a black flame-like emblem over the left breast, fingerless black gloves, an orange infinity scarf with a blackish red bandana tied to the end, golden bracelets, a brown belt with a pleated brown leather attached around the hips sporting a gold flame-like emblem on the right side, a long white asymmetrical knee length cloth on the right side, tight thigh high black spandex compression shorts, orange over-the-knee socks, a gray bandanna tired on the left knee and brown knee-high boots, whose expression was filled with fury as her hands were stained in fresh blood.

"And who are you, mortal pest?" Vernal growled while thunder echoed outside, neither herself or the blonde flinched upon its sudden arrival.

RUMBLE!

BOOOOM!

"The names Yang Xiao Long BRANWEN." she growled while pointing her right thumb at her chest. "And I'm here to kill you!"

"Ha, there are no other Branwens, only I'M worthy of that last name."

Yang narrowed her eyes while pointing at Vernal. "Because you KILLED my mother!"

"Oh. OH! I get it now." Vernal chuckled with a smirk, her eyes twinkling with sadistic glee. "You're the weak queen's daughter, the one she abandoned at birth right?"

"..."

"Oh, so I am right? Huh, you must be weak as well." she chuckled.

"I literally punched my way INTO this place and right through a wall of wind, if that's not weak then you need to get your brain looked after!"

The empress' eyes narrowed as Yang smirked at her. "You are really pissing me off brat."

"Good, because I'm going to piss you off AND blow your brains out!"

"For what reason, your mother did nothing for you yet you STILL come to avenge her death? Are you that desperate for glory that you'd attack a goddess like myself?" Vernal growled. "One that decimated Mistral in a matter of days!?"

"I might've hated her for abandoning me for whatever reason she had." Yang frowned while flexing her arms, causing two gold gauntlets to form on her lower arms. "But I still loved her despite her flaws, but you killed her before I could ever get closure. You made me lose TWO mothers in one lifetime, and for that, you're going down like a burning star!"

As the older woman narrowed her eyes at the blonde's 'arrogance', her eyes started to glow red while one of her men, holding two dark gray crescent-like blades with two hooked opter points that pointed backwards towards the red clothed grip, a ring-like center around the grip with four smaller blades above and under it, two rectangular gun barrels on the ring and lower part of the upper blades and a small thin trigger-like ring held by a small pin within the larger ring, in his hands quickly ran behind her and presented the weapons to her.

"I heard of this brat, she's Beacon Academy trained, well before she bailed upon hearing of you know who's death. I think you need your weapons for this one." he said cautiously, knowing that a direct child of Raven Branwen could present a problem for the tribe that bears her name, even though he hated the current leader to his marrow. 'But if she does die, that means this girl will be our leader and to be frank, I think we need a change of pace. Something less….destructive.'

SLAM!

"GAH!" he cried out while getting sent flying across the room and hit a marble pillar, his spine shattering upon impact as Vernal snarled in fury.

"I won't use my mortal weapons on this brat, I will obliterate her with my powers!" she roared with rage as she floated in the air, red cracks forming around her eyes and fingers as the windstorm outside increased in power. "For I am a goddess!"

'Yeesh, what a blowhard.' Yang thought with a sweatdrop before dodging a bolt of lighting, rolling towards the right before getting kicked in the face by the woman's right leg, sending her flying into a wall. "GAH!" 'THAT HURT!'

"Pray to me and I will-"

POW!

POW!

"GAH!" Vernal screamed as Yang filled buckshot from her gauntlets, her right shoulder and left hand getting completely mangled from the blast as she flew back and summoned a wave of ice shards towards Yang's direction. "YOU DARE HURT A GODDESS!?"

POW!

POW!

"AH!" Yang grunted in pain as the ice shards pierced her shoulders, causing her to quickly pull them out as she ducked behind a pillar, her eyes blazing crimson red. 'Ok, now I'm pissed off! She is going DOWN HARD!'

ZAP!

BOOOM!

"Come out and fight!" Vernal yelled while swinging lighting towards the pillar, destroying it as the red cracks began to move from her hands and eyes towards her neck. "Or are you too much like your cowardly mother to do anything!?"

Yang quickly darted towards another pillar, avoiding a blast of lighting as she fired buckshot at the woman, a miniature cyclone forming around her body and defecting the buckshot. 'Shit! How many semblances does this bitch have!?'

ZAP!

BOOOOM!

ZAP!

BOOOOOM!

ZAP!

BOOOOOM!

"You are only stalling the inevitable!"

ZAP!

BOOOM!

Yang quickly ran towards the stairs, marble and floorboard shards flying in every direction as she looked for an opening and found her buckshot couldn't even penetrate the 'wind armor'. 'Ok, she can fly, summon lighting, control ice like Weiss and somehow have wind powers, what else does this bitch have, fire!?'

WOOOOSH!

And cue a pillar of flames erupting from the ground next to her as Vernal crossed her arms in an 'X' formation and caused two waves of fire to move towards the blonde's direction.

"SHIT!" The blonde yelled in disbelief as she got hit by the flames and was sent flying into the stairs, causing the wooden surface to break upon contact. "AH!"

The 'Spring Maiden' smirked as she floated towards Yang, forming two large blades of ice in both hands, ignorant of Yang's blazing yellow aura that suddenly formed around her body. "Enough playing with the weak rat."

Crack.

'Ow.' Yang groaned while splinters of wood stuck to her clothes, her bones aching a little as she noticed that Vernal's body was covered in red cracks, each one glowing brighter than a cluster of Fire Dust. 'She can create weapons now?! Fuck…wait? Why is she glowing?'

"Time to die!"

CRASH!

As the two ice blades slammed down upon Yang's position, Vernal noticed that something was…off.

"Heh, nice trick." Yang smirked while currently holding the bladed points with her hands, her body glowing even brighter as she snapped the points in half. "But I have an even better one."

"Wha-"

KAPOW!

BOOOM!

Wood and marble went flying as Vernal crashed through three pillars and right into the front door as Yang stood up, her right fist extended outwards and covered in a flaming aura.

"Take that bitch!" 'No one can survive a punch like that, not even a Grimm! I should know, I tested that out before I…wait, why is she moving?!'

BOOOOM!

WOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" Vernal screamed in frustration as a cyclone formed all around her body, growing stronger and stronger as chucks of the academy were ripped from their foundations and swirled around like fish in a waterspout, the cracks glowing even brighter and increasing in size. "YOU MISERABLE MORTAL SCUM!"

'Oh no, I just made her mad.' Yang thought while noticing that Vernal's body was starting to peel off, revealing a bright red energy-like substance where her bones were. 'Wait, that's it. She can't control her semblance…and I have the perfect way to get her even more angry.

"I WILL WIPE YOU OFF THE FACE OF REMNANT! I WILL MAKE YOU CRAWL LIKE A WORM AT MY FEET! I WILL-"

"Suck my pussy!" Yang grinned while Vernal narrowed her eyes. "I mean it's always 'crawl' and 'playing' and whatever you were saying before. I know what you want, and that's a fun time with an expert."

"YOU LITTLE-"

"I mean you're just a sub right?" the blonde interrupted while Vernal's eyes glowed bright red. "A little sub that wanted to be all dominating. But news flash, killing my mother, the one that you once served, wasn't the way to get at her pussy, or mine either bitch!" 'Oh, she's just about to lose it.'

ZAP!

ZAP!

Lighting formed across Vernal's fingers as she felt rage blinding her rational mind, the very notion of her former leader being HER master, and in such a notion, was infuriating for her.

"So why not come down and we can screw. I'll be the screwdriver to your lackluster scre-"

"SHUT UP!" Vernal yelled while rushing towards Yang, her hands grasping at her neck as she began shoving her against the ground, wooden floorboards scraping against the blonde's aura and cracking it slightly. "RAVEN BRANWEN WAS NEVER MY MASTER! SHE WAS WEAK! WEAK!"

"G-GAH!"

"SHE WAS WEAK!" she yelled before rising upwards and threw the blonde to the ground, causing an impact crater to form where the stairs once stood. "SHE SHOWED COMPASSION TO A WEAKLING! SHE WAS WEAK FOR THAT! BUT I'M NOT! I'M THE STRONGEST! I AM THE MOST POWERFUL! I AM A GODDESS AMONGST MORTALS LIKE YOU! I AM ETERNAL AND DON'T NEED ANYONE TELLING ME WHAT TO DO!"

"Ow…that hurt." Yang groaned while her aura flickered a little, cracks forming along the sides of her body as Vernal began moving towards her, the wall of wind moving from her body to her left arm in the form of a spiraling drill. 'Oh no.'

Click.

Click.

'Shit, Ember Celica is busted, shit, I need to find something to defend myself with before she uses that wind powered 'drill' to give my entire face a new one!' she thought with dread before noticing a shard of wood right next to her left hand and quickly grabbed it. 'Well…here goes nothing!'

"THE OLD BRANWENS WILL END AND THE NEW ONES WILL RISE! AND THAT NEW BRANWEN LINE WILL BE MINE!" Vernal yelled before landing right on Yang's legs and rushed to impale the blonde with her left hand. "DIE!"

WOOOOOSSSSHHH!

SQUISH!

Drip…drip…drip…

Fresh blood fell upon the ground as the wind surrounding Vernal's left hand instantly dissipated, the woman's eyes looking downwards as a wooden shard pierced the very center of her chest, the cracks glowing even brighter while Yang smirked from her position, having pushed herself upwards to deliver the final blow.

"Heh, looks like you were the one to die, weakling."

CRACK!

CRACK!

"N-NO! WHAT HAVE YOU-AAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Vernal screamed in horror as the red energy began to envelop her body, 'flames' erupting from her mouth and eyes as the windstorm outside began to swirl around the two women, growing faster and faster with each passing second. 'WHAT DID I DO WRONG!? WHAT DID I DO WRONG!?'

[To be strong is to embrace one's heart, even if it leads one into the grasps of death.]

The woman's eyes widened as her former leader's voice echoed in her mind, the sound of cracking completely ignored as she slowly recalled her leader's words of wisdom.

Advice that she once stood for and followed under the guiding presence of Raven Branwen, the only one that accepted her despite her own troubled yet distant past.

Loyalty…a word she had forgotten for so long, now remembered at the end of her life.

'...I…I was never meant for this fate, wasn't I?' she thought to herself as her body glowed a bright white energy, the wind condensing into an orbiting ring of concentrated gasses ready to be ignited. 'I was never meant to be a Maiden…just a lowly pawn, heh…I guess I deserve it.'

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

WIIIIISSSSSSSSHHHHH!

'If there is an afterlife...I'll take my punishment for my stupidity with stride.'

WWWWWWWIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!

'See you soon….Raven.'

KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!

And in a flash of blinding light, everything faded to white.

Bio: In this timeline, a few years before the start of Ruby's adventures, the Spring Maiden of Mistral, having left out of fear of her own responsibilities and joined the Branwen Tribe to become stronger, found that she couldn't escape from the fear of responsibility and begged the tribe's queen, Raven Branwen, to end her life to release her from the burden of her life. However, unlike the normal timelines of the RWBYverse and Ruinverse, Raven hesitated as she knew that the girl had the willpower to perceive despite her fears and wanted her to become stronger than she was, someone that ran away from her old life for the sake of cowardness. This moment of hesitation was sensed by Vernal, Raven's right hand woman, who straight up killed the Spring Maiden and obtained her magical powers in the process. However, this blatant attempt to undermine the choice of a Maiden had severe consequences, one of which was her mind becoming detached from humanity itself, unable to empathize or even acknowledge anyone 'weaker' than her. After killing her former leader, whom she viewed as weak for having a conscience, Vernal took control of the Branwen tribe and began obliterating the many towns and cities around the Kingdom of Mistral before deposing Mistral's government and instating herself as its new empress. Yet, her rule was a volatile one as due to her extreme inexperience with the Spring Maiden's powers, she is unable to control it and periodically fights to keep it under control, causing storms and deadly hurricane winds to permanently surround Mistral and attack both her enemies and her own tribe, who now see her as a threat to their survival yet bide their time until Venal is 'weak' to eliminate her. But, to the surprise of the tribe, their change would come with the arrival of Yang Xiao Long, former student of Beacon before she learned of her mother's passing and, while she hated the woman greatly, felt it was her responsibility to end Raven's murderer for the sake of familial ties. Seeing her chance to end the Branwen line and usurp it for her own purposes, Vernal attacked the Huntress and while at first having the advantage, her overreliance on the Spring Maiden's power caused her body to overload her own aura, creating a build up of energy that grew and grew until Yang stabbed her with a shard of wood, releasing the energy into a massive explosion that obliterated Mistral off the face of the map. Yet even then, the Spring maiden's powers bonded with Yang, who now has grown as cold as her mother due to loss, and allowed her to escape the explosion as Vernal, in her last moments realized that her plans were doomed to fail from the beginning…for she destroyed her own loyalty to gain power that she'd never gain or master in her lifetime. In a way, the world would've been better off if she hadn't been envious of her benefactors' humanity…an act of self destruction if ever there was one.
