The screen began to bubble and boil as the familiar silver door rose from it's depths, the thick purple chains corroding and breaking apart as the door opened up and bathed everything in dark purple.

From the tainted light, came a single red eye that glared at the screen before the door slammed shut and everything became static, a crumbling rose symbol appearing every so often as the title began to form.

The Ruinverse: Chapter Ninety Seven, A Pyrrhic Victory.

-Remnant, Grimmlands, Evernight Castle-

Knock knock knock.

The sound of knocking echoed across the halls of this crystalline castle as the camera zoomed towards the bone covered wooden doors, larger than any human ever born and fit only for a giant, its grant mistress moving towards the doors from the nearby spiraling black stairway…looking rather annoyed as she was currently in a see-through pink long sleeved robe that revealed her black lacy bra and panties to the world.

"Just who or what is knocking at my door?" she grumbled in confusion as her eyes were heavy with weariness, for she was interrupted from a long night's sleep by the infernal knocking. 'Could it be those fools? No, they were already busy with their assignments…unless Tyrian somehow came back early? No, why would he? He's too engrossed with bloodshed to return to me now, especially when Haven's best teachers are being slain by him.'

Knock knock knock knock.

'If this is another Grimm wanting in, I'll blast it into the moon…huh that would be entertaining. Better try that later, after I deal with this knocking!' Salem thought in agitation as she moved towards the door and opened the door with one hand, poking her head out the crack. "Mmm, who is-"

"Let me in! Let me in!" yelled a tall muscular fair skinned woman with long waist length red hair in a ponytail that curled slightly into a loose ringlet and was semi disheveled, green eyes with dark circles, light green eyeshadow around the far upper corners of her eyes, a D cup chest and small ass, wearing a brown overbust corset with a vertical strip of light brown in the center, a elastic black A-line mini skirt, brown opera-length gloves, a red ankle-length sash that wrapped around her skirt, a small circular bronze plate on her right hip with an etched spear shaped emblem in its center, two brown pouches on the left hip, a black belt, a bronze circlet with small green teardrop shaped emeralds attached to thin bronze chains, a large bronze gorget, a bronze bracelet on the upper left arm, a bronze bracer on the lower left arm, bronze mid-thigh length greaves, bronze mid-thigh length cuisses and brown bronze trimmed mid-calf high-heeled boots, in a frantic tone as she pushed the woman back and slammed the door shut, her breathing heavily from exhaustion as she seemed…crazed for some reason. "Take THAT ghosts! You won't get me in here!"

"..." Salem's eyes widened in confusion as she watched the woman falling to her knees, exhausted and, in her mind, possibly being active for three or more weeks, something no normal human could do without some strain on their mind and body. 'What the? Who….wait, isn't that Pyrrha Nikos, the so-called 'Champion of Mistral'? But…why is she here!?'

"Ah…ah…night night…" Pyrrha muttered before falling backwards, her eyes closed shut as her body rested upon the black tiled floor.

"...what just happened?" Salem muttered in confusion as she felt like she was missing something important, and she didn't like it at all.

(A few hours later)

-Salem's Private Chambers-

"Zzzzzzz."

SLASH!

"AH! BLOOD! BLOOD EVERYWHERE!" Pyrrha screamed in terror before noticing that she was in a rather dreary black tiled bedroom, currently sitting on a large pink waterbed with pink curtains, as her body was covered with water, not blood. "What…what just happened?"

"And lo, the princess is awake. Rejoice."

Pyrrha blinked before seeing the mistress of the castle staring at her from the left side of the bed, a heavy purple wool robe covering her body and her exposed undergarments as she crossed her arms over her chest, a picture of water held in her left hand. "O-Oh…um…hello again."

"Why are you here, Champion of Mistral?" Salem frowned while tapping her fingernails on her arms and the pitcher's crystalline sides.

"Oh…that." She chuckled nervously while getting up, only to fall back on the bed, her legs twitching from fatigue. "Oof, right. Been on the run for a month…can't move."

"Tell me why you're here. Why are you even here on my lands, my castle?"

"..." the red head looked to her left, staring outwards towards the bleak endless darkness that was the Grimmlands, or according to the older legends, the Land of Darkness. "I wanted to be alone."

"I'm sorry?"

"I want to be left alone. I've seen…too much, heard too much and even now, I can't stop thinking about it." Pyrrha frowned while gripping the sheets with both hands. "I can hear the cries of pain, the breaking of bones and the mocking laughter of wicked humans. I saw war…and I hated it."

'Mmmm, she must be referring to the Fall of Vale. Makes sense but why come here of all places? And isn't she one of Ozma's Huntsmen, why would he let her run away into my clutches without putting some form of protection around her person?' the immortal thought while noticing that orange 'flames' were forming near the sides of the Huntress' eyes, making her even more confused. 'The Fall Maiden's magic? But didn't Cinder acquire it already?'

"I hate the very notion of war, and how I went blindly into it like a starving wolf. Now…I can't escape them."

"Escape who?"

"The ghosts!" she yelled while her breathing became rapid and heavy. "They haunt me day and night, screaming, biting and clawing at me with vengeance! They damn me to the darkness found only in the stomachs of the Grimm and will not relent until I'm dead!"

"..."

"I had to escape them, I had to seek solitude." she said while turning to Salem, her eyes bloodshot and panicked. "I seek sanctuary and servitude from you, the Witch of the Woods, from my torment!"

"Um….eh?" Salem said, dumbfounded and confused by her surprisingly blunt desire to join her side, no strings attached or anything.

"I wish to become your champion, if only to keep the specters away from me." she said while her eyes darted around the room, seemingly looking for someone or something. "I know you seek the destruction of Remnant for your own desires but…I need your help. I need to rid myself of the ghosts and you are the only one that might help."

"...and if I were to help you, why should I? Let medical knowledge and Ozma's group of misfits assist you, you ARE their agent after all." Salem deadpanned while Pyrrha looked away.

"Maybe I was once, but after the Fall…I tried everything. Medicine, therapy, fighting, but nothing worked. I can't get sick or drunk due to the Fall Maiden's influence on my body, I can't tell my friends for fear they will be scared of my true personality, I can't return home and let the ghosts drive me to murder again." Pyrrha said while clenching her hands tightly, blood dripping upon the sheets before being healed by an orange energy around her hands. "I've already killed the 'conqueror' of Vale by stabbing my own melted weapons in her right eye, I don't want to kill again…but I know I must if the ghosts continue to torment me, for I am a Huntsmen and killing is part of the job, even when my soul is pulled apart by Vale's specters of war."

'Guilt and regret. So that's why she came here…but still, from what I can see she's suffering from delusions and trauma. The Great War had many like her, many that I used for my own ends, yet in her case, she must've been bottling her emotions for so long that it broke her.' the immortal thought while Pyrrha continued to scan the room for intruders. 'This girl is more broken than even Cinder herself...mmm…she could be beneficial to me. Her power is controllable, her training better than Cinder and, unlike her, she willingly chose to follow me without a desire for power, not even a small hint of megalomaniac tendencies. While I can easily remove her memories of the events with my magic, I think her pain could be a good motivator for her servitude, plus if she does well I could 'reward' her by wiping that memory from her mind, but that is a little farther down the line.'

'Where are the ghosts!? WHERE ARE THEY!?' The former member of Team JNPR screamed in her mind as she looked around frantically, not realizing that she was biting her lip so hard it was bleeding. 'WHERE ARE THEY!?'

[Nikos.]

[Killer.]

[Murderer!]

[Let me rip out your spine!]

[Bringer of doom!]

[Betrayer!]

"What will you give to me if I allow your presence within my shadow?"

"Eh!?" Pyrrha said quickly before seeing the face of Salem, making her flinch a little before calming down. "Sorry, I was distracted. What did you say?"

Salem deadpanned with a frown. "I said, what will you give me if you become my acolyte? What will you do for me if I bring you under my wing?"

"..."

"Nothing? Nothing at all?"

"...I…I would bring honor to you." she said with a low yet sad whisper. "I will defend you until I die in battle, I will help bring about your goals and…I will help locate and defeat your enemies. I know that my fate is broken, for I have lost the respect and hopes of the world. They brand me a murderer and my friends…they don't know the torment the ghosts give to me. Give me the means to free myself from them and I will serve you for eternity. I will be your champion, I will become your weapon of war."

"And if you suddenly have a conscience?"

"I won't. For I lost mine a long time ago…but grant me a boon."

Salem raised her eyebrow at this and sighed. "Just tell me what boon you want."

"Keep Jaune Arc safe. If you do burn the world, let him live." Pyrrha said while looking at her unresponsive legs. "He is the only thing that I cherish. I care for him more than my own honor…please, keep him alive and well. Do this and…I will never abandon my post as your champion. I will never break my oath…just let him live."

'Love, even in a state of trauma...how ironic.' the immortal thought while recalling her own past, how she challenged the gods for the sake of love and lost everything. 'Yet pointless. If he does live, the gods will kill him along with me. Still…better to keep her on my side than have another enemy at my doorstep.'

[Pyrrha.]

[Traitor to all.]

Pyrrha turned to her left in fear before seeing several balls of sickly green orbs floating all around the room, each one expelling a noxious 'gas' that made her choke on her own spit, the recognizable scent of rotting flesh. 'N-NO!'

[Killer of Vale!]

[Come join us and suffer!]

[Rot with us!]

[Pay for your crimes!]

"Very well." Salem said calmly, breaking Pyrrha out of her fear induced stupor. "You shall have the boon and your service for me alone. However, to combat your 'ghost' problem, you will need a new form."

"New…form?"

"Yes, a new form to better protect yourself from them and anyone else that wishes to harm you. The Maiden's powers and your own unique semblance will only do so much before failing entirely." the immortal said while Pyrrha blinked in confusion. "I am a woman that enjoys learning about everything, from auras to the human form. But the Grimm are unique, shapeless and capable of being created without the aid of reproductive organs or other 'normal' biological limitations. In the past I have taken humans I either favored or hated and infused them with specific Grimm to increase their abilities or to make them suffer. Many of them were failures and currently, I have one prototype in the pits below, half mad and only capable of following my will alone, not its own goals or motivations."

"...and it has to do with me…how?"

Salem smirked while putting her right hand on Pyrrha's left hand. "Simple. The same procedure will be granted to you, but unlike the others, you will retain your mind, your semblance and your human form…to an extent. Your Maiden powers and your semblance is, in theory, more than capable of staving off the procedure's more negative side effects. But if you ever betray me, you will learn how a beast will feel and act, forever."

"..."

"But if you keep your oath to me, your new form will help combat the specters and, in time, you will be free from them."

"..."

"It will be painful, almost unbearable." Salem said while turning towards the doorway, her back facing Pyrrha as she smiled a little. "But the benefits will outweigh the pain, and who knows, you might one day enjoy that form instead of your current one."

"...I…"

"We will talk about this later. You can sleep in this room for now, rest your mind. I don't need to sleep like other creatures do, I sleep only every one hundred years and as of now, that 'desire' has passed."

Creak.

"I do hope you come around to it. It will be a choice worth making."

SLAM!

And like that, the doors closed in front of Pyrrha as the screen went black.

(Several months later)

-Somewhere in Anima-

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

The glow of a fire illuminated the otherwise dark forest of pine and maple as four figures sat next to it, their bags and weaponry laying next to a small log as four tents were pitched a few feet away.

The figures? Team RNJR, the scattered remains of Team RWBY and Team JNPR who, at the behest of Ruby Rose, now travel across Anima, looking for adventure, self reflection and for some, hope for a better tomorrow.

Yet at this particular moment, they were just roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories to pass the time.

"And then…the pancake jumped up and yelled 'OOGA BOOGA BOOBA!' before attacking the purple dog, consuming him like all the others the canine jaws had consumed in his hunger." Nora grinned while Ruby held onto Jaune's right arm like a scared koala as Ren deadpanned at her.

"Nora, that is a very unrealistic story."

"Oh come on Ren, it's scary!"

"As scary as a miniature sloth on a unicycle."

"Oi! Sloths are scary!"

Ren sighed heavily as Jaune shook his head, feeling Ruby's chattering jaw against his skin.

"Ruby, please let go."

"Oh! Sorry." She chuckled while letting go, feeling a little embarrassed about the sudden skin contact with her best friend, well second best friend…no third best friend…oh dear, she was having an anxiety attack, that's for sure. 'But isn't Penny my second best friend? No it was Weiss…no Jaune, GAH!'

'Cute.' the only son of the House of Arc as she watched Ruby's flustered body fidgeting a little on the wooden log, feeling slightly happy for the fact Ruby was better than she had been a few months ago.

The Fall…a great tragedy that would forever haunt future generations of humans and faunus. So much blood spilled defending the city from an onslaught of Grimm, White Fang and machines…a blight upon the peace that lasted for many years, from a time long before he was born.

But his only hope, his only light at the end of the tunnel…it was stripped from him following his unexpected launch from Beacon Academy via rocket propelled locker.

Pyrrha Nikos, his partner and…apparently his everything, never returned from her battle against Cinder Fall. She didn't show up to make sure he was ok or anything…not that he can blame her, the world is still reeling from the fact she killed someone in cold blood and apparently sacrificed herself saving the capital of the Valeian Kingdom itself.

A heroine, a criminal, they were both a part of her now, yet…Jaune knew he was alone in the world now.

For without Pyrrha, he was nothing…he felt a gaping hole where his heart once was, and while he knew she was still out there, it still made him feel…despair.

But seeing Ruby, who suffered the same fate as him and lost someone precious to her, acting a little like her old self helped fill the hole left behind by Pyrrha's disappearance.

'Pyrrha, please be ok.' He thought while Ren and Nora were busy bickering about the fear factor of sloths.

"Sloths are scary!"

"No, they aren't."

"Yes, they are!"

"No, they are not."

"Scary!"

"Aren't."

"Scary!"

"Aren't."

Crackle.

SISSSSSS.

The arguments stopped as the team noticed that the fire's light was becoming dimmer by the second, the wooden logs finally turning into a flaky grayish white ash that occasionally burned with wisps of flames before becoming extinguished by the cold evening wind.

"Well..." Ruby chuckled while getting up. "Better get some firewood."

"Want us to come with you?" Ren asked while Ruby grabbed her weapon and strapped behind her hips.

"Nah, I'll be fine. Plus I'm a Huntress, I can beat any old Grimm out here." She smirked with a hint of confidence as Nora raised both her fists into the air.

"Woo! Go gal! That's what I call asserting yourself!" She grinned while Ren shook his head as Ruby walked into the darkness.

'This might not end well…but she is right. She is a Huntress.'

(A few minutes later)

SWISH!

CLANK!

A large oak tree fell upon the dirt covered ground, cut in half, as Ruby swung her scythe around the area, cutting any nearby trees and allowing them to collapse to the ground with relative ease.

SWISH!

CRASH!

SWISH!

CRASH!

"There, just right." Ruby panted while placing her weapon on the ground and leaned against it, looking upon the twenty large trees she just cut in half. "Woo…now to rest a moment before I cut you guys up." 'Should've asked Jaune for his sword, just so I could cut it without swinging a massive scythe around…who am I kidding? IT'S FUN!'

As the beating of her own heart began to slow, the Silver Eyes looked upon the moonlight above her and felt…a wave of sadness overcoming her.

She saw Pyrrha killing Cinder Fall, graphically too…yet she also saw her look at her with fear in her eyes, something unexpected and unnatural for the otherwise stoic Huntress.

The eyes…so bloodshot and feral, akin to a cornered animal…a beast that knew nothing but paranoia.

But in a blink of an eye, she 'flew' away from her, on a small tornado that obscured her vision and caused her to collide with a gear…after that, darkness and her bed in Patch.

'Pyrrha...just what happened up there?' she thought with a sad frown as she hoped the girl was ok, wherever she was.

Russle.

Russle.

Ruby blinked as she stood straight up and held her weapon in her hands. "Ok, whoever is out there, come out. And if it's a Grimm, back off! I'm not afraid of you!" 'Much. I mean there could be…bigger Grimm out there than the big flying dragon back in Vale. Ugh…that thing was creepy!'

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

CRUNCH!

Ruby gulped as the sound of crunching wood echoed across the forest, making her heart skip a beat as the sound grew closer and closer to her direction.

Russle.

Russle.

Russle.

But as the nearby bushes began to shake, a familiar figure….walked out with a smile.

"Hello again." Pyrrha smiled while waving at the stunned girl.

"...Pyrrha!? But...how!?" she gasped in shock as the Silver Eyes noticed that Pyrrha wasn't holding any weapons, at all.

"Well, I just came here to say hi, talk to you and see if you're willing to come with me." She chuckled while Ruby felt…something off about the girl's smile.

As if it was forced.

"Come with you? What do you mean by that? Oh it doesn't matter, Jaune will be happy to see you, he's been sleep talking about you all month!"

"Oh…I see, um how about you don't bring him here. At all."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. Look Ruby, I need you to come with me." Pyrrha said with a slightly harsh tone. "Please, it's important."

Ruby raised an eyebrow as she felt the uneasy feeling intensify as if…danger was imminent. "Why?"

"Just come with me Ruby."

"...but what about the others?"

"Just. Come. With. Me." Pyrrha said with a very low growl, making Ruby flinch a little.

"But-"

"Ruby Rose. You will come with me now or I will force you to." Pyrrha growled with anger, her eyes seemingly glowing a dull orange hue as a tiny dot of blackness formed near the irises.

"Pyrrha? What's going on?" the girl asked while seeing the once calm member of Team JNPR's face morphing into one of rage and anger.

"Make up your mind! Come with me or you will be forced to, one way or another!"

"I'm sorry, but I won't go with you. You need to see the others and then we can figure out what the next course of action would be." Ruby said calmly. "But if you're trying to force me to go, I won't go without a fight."

Pyrrha narrowed her eyes before a sickly greenish black aura covered her body, segmented cracks forming around her arms and face as her eyes began to turn into pools of inky 'tar'. "Then you sealed your own fate!"

CRACK!

CRUNCH!

SQUISH!

Bones cracked and muscles crunched as Pyrrha's body began to grow, distorted into an unrecognizable shape as Ruby looked upwards in horror, the ground shaking below her as trees began to topple to the ground in mass.

CRASH!

CRUNCH!

SQUISH!

Within minutes, towering over the smaller human and halfway up the tallest of trees, was a extremely tall semi muscular marble skinned woman with long segmented serpentine-like crimson red hair that trailed down to her feet and had over one hundred large draconic snake-like heads with pure black eyes and sharp curved fangs at the ends, obsidian eyes, thin dagger-like fangs, thick crimson red marking around the sides of her eyes and lower jaw, a I cup chest and massive ass, thin red gills on the sides of her neck that were protected by a layer of black bone-like struts, two large white bat-like wings with a black membrane and thick red spikes at the end of each 'finger', thick scale-like spines around the arms, shoulders, upper chest and hips, long blood red clawed hands, two large spiked serpentine-like tails that went from her hips and curled around her with a single wide red fin attached at the ends, thick black curved horn-like antennae with red membrane on her forehead and wearing nothing at all as her body seemed to glow with a sickly green aura and her eyes glowed a bright orange inferno of 'fire'.

"You will be brought before the queen, alive or dead!" 'Pyrrha' growled before her 'hair' stretched outwards and attempted to grab Ruby with their jaws.

SWOOOSH!

Yet Ruby, utilizing her semblance, was able to evade the lashing snake-like heads as she 'flew' towards Pyrrha's face, the ground shaking from the collision made by the serpentine-like hair.

BOOM!

BOOM!

"Pyrrha, what happened to you!?" She yelled while dodging Pyrrha's left hand, a flurry of red rose petals taking her place as she tried to talk with the now humanoid Grimm.

"Hold still! Just hold still!" Pyrrha yelled while ignoring her former friend's pleas for answers.

WOOSH!

'Who did this to her!? Oh gods, did that mad doctor experiment on her!?' Ruby thought while trying her best to avoid both the hair and the arms with her semblance, unable to even hurt her friend at all due to personal feelings of guilt and hope.

Hope that maybe she could still convince Pyrrha to stop attacking her and return to her friends…like the old days.

WOOOSH!

"HOLD STILL!" the humanoid Grimm roared in anger before both her mouth and snake heads' jaws began to glow a bright green color.

SQUISH!

SPLAT!

SQUISH!

SPLAT!

And released a flurry of green globs of acid, causing the very trees and ground to melt into nothing, making Ruby panic as she tried to avoid the human sized globs of death.

'Acid!? What is she, a Centinel!?' she thought in a panic as she avoided some of the acid balls, her cape getting eaten away during her transition periods between semblance usage.

SQUISH!

SPLAT!

SQUISH!

SPLAT!

"Pyrrha stop! We can talk about this!"

"There is nothing to talk about! You WILL be mine, wherever you want to or NOT!" Pyrrha snapped with rage before spitting acid at Ruby's direction, just as she was transitioning between the physical and intangible states of being.

SQUISH!

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Ruby screamed in agonizing pain as she fell to the ground, landing on a nearby bush as her entire right arm melted into a puddle of green and red goo, the acidic touch agonizing to her senses and making her aura shatter upon contact.

"If you won't come with me, I will fall back on my original mission." Pyrrha growled while her hair hissed in agitation at the now one armed Silver Eyed girl's direction. "I will kill you and present your eyes to the queen. You had your chance of survival, now it will not be offered again!"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Sissss.

Sissss.

Acidic goop fell upon the glass, burning it away along with the ground, as Pyrrha loomed over the still screaming Ruby's form, her weapon's hilt turning into melted metal nearby.

"Your eyes will be presented on a silver platter." she growled as she moved her right hand towards Ruby's direction. "I'm sorry, but the ghosts must be vanquished."

"RUBY!"

"Jaune?" Pyrrha said with shock as she heard the voice of her…partner to her right, his footsteps growing ever closer as a sense of…shame entered her mind.

Shame for the monster she was becoming.

But still, she had to do it, to stop the ghosts from tormenting her…and still torment her even now.

'I…I need to hide. Before he sees me.' she thought as her form began to shift, bones cracking and muscles ripping apart as she began slithering into the darkness, just as Jaune ran into the now open clearing.

"Ruby! Ruby-Oh gods! RUBY!" Jaune screamed in horror as he ran towards the girl, not noticing the acidic goop eating away at the nearby trees as he held her in his arms. "Ruby! What happened!? Who did this to you!?"

"Ah…ah…" she panted, her voice low and gravelly from her screaming fit, as she tried to keep her eyes open. "J..Jaun..e…"

"Stay with me! Don't close your eyes!"

"Ah…Jaune…" she said weakly before falling unconscious, her left arm falling limp as Jaune feared for the worse.

"Ruby? Ruby!?" he yelled before picking her up, ignoring her slowly melting scythe as he ran back to the camp, hoping to get Nora and Ren's assistance before Ruby entered the realm of death. "NORA! REN! HELP! RUBY IS HURT! HELP!"

(Elsewhere)

CRACK!

CRUNCH!

SQUISH!

As the final bone snapped into place, the now 'human' Pyrrha Nikos stopped and rested near the side of a tall ash tree, her right hand touching its bark and melting it instantly.

"...oh Jaune, Ruby. I know you will come to hate me, but…I have no choice. I must escape the endless ghosts, their never ending screams and toxic miasma." She muttered to herself while closing her eyes. "I must be free of them, even if I must become the monster Remnant wants me to be. I already killed two people, why not embrace it fully?"

Sisssssss.

"Still…I must not let Jaune see me. He knows of me as a partner, one that he looked up for comfort and support. I can't…let that memory die, not now." Pyrrha muttered before opening her eyes, orange 'flames' covering her stern eyes as she began to form a small tornado under her feet, small bat-like wings forming near her ankles as the sky began to rumble with thunder. "One day he will find out, perhaps sooner. But I will reveal myself to him on my own time."

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

"Once Ruby's eyes are within Salem's grasp, I will come to him. Offer him the choice of salvation from the god's wrath…or…or…or…kill him if he rejects it." she muttered while seeing sickly green orbs forming right in front of her. "You specters will not have me, you will never have me!"

[Hypocrite.]

[Monster.]

[Ender of friendship!]

[GRIMM SPAWN!]

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

'Ruby Rose.' Pyrrha thought before taking flight, flashing of lighting darting across the sky like striking serpents. 'I will take your life but only when Jaune is away from your sights. Once that happens.'

ZAP!

BOOOOM!

"I will rip your eyes out, for the honor of Salem." she growled as disappeared into the clouds, flashes of light blinding the screen before everything went black.

ZAP!

BOOOOOM!

Bio: In this timeline, during the Fall of Beacon, Cinder Fall would battle Pyrrha Nikos for the glory of killing an 'imposter' for the title of Fall Maiden and would succeed in destroying the girls' weapons with her semblance…yet in an instance of sheer determination and animal instinct, Pyrrha grabbed the melted point of her spear and stabbed the woman in the right eye, killing her instantly and allowing the Fall Maiden powers to enter her body as Ozpin intended in the first place and ending the battle in the process. However, this victory was short lived as upon seeing the dead of the city, half consumed by the Grimm or crushed under falling rubble, along with the numerous dead students of Beacon itself, her mind snapped from the psychological stress and despair, her original personality fading away to reveal her own agitated and stress filled 'true' self that she frantically tried to hide from the world under the guise of a 'champion'. These events, coupled with the sudden appearance of 'ghosts' that plagued her night and day, caused her to dive into a fearful insanity that drove her from civilization itself and into the darkened lands of the Grimm, unable to face the reality of war or her own part of its inevitable start. In a desperate desire to drive the specters of war away from her, Pyrrha chose to align herself with Salem, hoping that if she gained the sorceress' trust she could banish the ghosts and free her from the darkness that is consuming her mind and soul in the process. Viewing Pyrrha as a better acolyte than Cinder ever had been, Salem decided to grant the girl a new form, one that combines both the Maiden powers and the physiology of a Grimm yet retains the humanoid form and the ability to return to her previous form for infiltration missions…at the cost of her never being able to disobey her on the pain of instant destruction. Without hesitation and wanting to be rid of the specters of her own guilt and fears, Pyrrha accepted the witch's proposal and was infused with several Sea Feilong and King Taijitus along with hundreds of Centinel Grimm, granting her the abilities of said Grimm and a highly dangerous toxic touch and blood that can turn others into puddles of gore within minutes…yet even with all these powers, the ghosts of her past continue to haunt her, unable to 'rest' until Pyrrha 'pays' for her 'crimes'. Forever tormented by the things she has witnessed and striving for a release from that torment, Pyrrha, now known as Argustian Hydra in honor of her home city, is given a mission that will last for the better part of a decade, her quarry always escaping her clutches and preventing Pyrrha from gaining her 'happy ending'...that mission, kill Ruby Rose, the last of the Silver Eyes. A sad fate for one that inspired the world, a destiny that was twisted into something monstrous…something broken.
