The screen began to bubble and boil as the familiar silver door rose from it's depths, the thick purple chains corroding and breaking apart as the door opened up and bathed everything in dark purple.

From the tainted light, came a single red eye that glared at the screen before the door slammed shut and everything became static, a crumbling rose symbol appearing every so often as the title began to form.

Within the calm grayish green dominated room, where gears of bronze move in perpetual movement to the flow of time, a figure sat in their metallic gold and gray clock themed four pronged chair and allowed the constant chimes and clicks of the large transparent stain glass clock behind them to ring in their ears, a silver clock-like cane resting on the left side of the glass lined metallic brown table.

'I really find the sound of cogs soothing.' thought a tall fair skinned man with short tousled silver hair, brown eyes, thin black eyebrows, thin shaded glass spectacles, a small purple cross-like pin on the cowl, wearing a long sleeved black suit with gold buttons on the cufflinks, a dark green vest with gold buttons, a green shirt with a full necked cowl, a black belt with a bronze buckle, long dark green pants and black trouser shoes, as he stared right towards the far end of the room, where a set of black elevator doors awaited visitors like silent sentries of wood and metal. 'A rhythmic tune that could put the most agitated person to sleep if they stopped and hear the tune itself…good thing I had some hot chocolate before or I'd be snoring on this table right about now.'

This was Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon Academy, member of Vale's council, and resident chocolate nut with a pension to put off paperwork at any opportune moment. And at the moment, he was content with the world at large….for the moment that is.

Yet for him, it was all fine. After all, he had sent Team RWBY on a simple mission to Mountain Glenn, all under Doctor Oobleck's watch…and a strange little pup named Zwei.

'That dog…has a strange soul. Mmmm, perhaps I should check on it later, after Team RWBY returns.' the headmaster thought to himself while feeling his eyes becoming heavy with exhaustion. '...really need to add more caffeine to the mixture. Then again, that would ruin the flavor.'

"Mmmm….perhaps I should check up on Glynda? It is that time of the day where the paperwork is….a mile high at most." Ozpin muttered to himself while letting the turning of gears and cogs lull him into an early sleep.

As for the headmaster of Remnant's most influential academy…it was just a normal, quiet and uneventful day like every other day.

Rumble.

Rumble.

Rumble.

The headmaster blinked as he felt the table shake, grabbing his attention in the process. "Huh? What was that?" 'Was my Scroll on vibrate again? No, it felt…different.'

Rumble.

Rumble.

Rumble.

Clang!

Clang!

Clang!

"Eh?" Ozpin said in confusion as the gears, cogs and glass around his office started to shake, creating an orchestra of vibrating metal and glass that eventually reached the pitch of a dog whistle, causing the headmaster to cover his ears in pain. "AH!" 'What is going on!?'

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

SHATTER!

CRACK!

Instantly, the glass cracked and shattered from their frames, as Beacon Academy itself began to shake violently, cracks forming across the walls, ceiling and floor that grew wider with every passing second.

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

Falling to the ground, face first, the headmaster's vision began to blur as portions of the ceiling fell onto the crumbling floor, his sense of gravity shifting towards the right as the last thing he saw was the Beacon skyline.

Clear blue, white clouds, rising zigzagging brown and gray stone gave way….

CRASH!

To black nothingness.

(Several minutes later)

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

The smell of soot forced the unconscious headmaster awake from his endless dream, shifting his mind back to the waking world as his eyes took in the world he returned to.

Gone was the pristine castle known as Beacon, gone was the greenery that made all other academies pale in comparison…and in its place…

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

A burning wasteland filled with fire, smoke and the buried remains of the castle under thousands of tons of soil…as if the very castle itself sank into the ground instantaneously.

Pain filled the man's entire body as he tried to breathe, the smoke causing his throat to burn as he could feel his ribs pushing against his flesh.

"Ah..a..h..a…" 'Broken ribs…must've lost my aura during the fall…this complicates things a little.'

Looking down at his lower body, he noticed that besides the pool of fresh blood and the embers of still burning flames, his arms and legs seemed relatively unscathed from the fall, possibly due to his…'other' reserve of 'power'.

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

"Ah…a…h…ah…" Ozpin gasped in pain as he tried to regain his bearings, to figure out what exactly happened a few moments ago. "Ah…ah! Gods…" 'Hopefully, my magic fixes the broken ribs…ow. If I had all my magic back I'd be able to fix the bones in no time….it is the price for making the Maidens and the Branwen birds. Mmm, nice titl-no. Figure out what happened and then come up with nicknames to troll them.'

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

As the headmaster slowly stood up, trying to keep his legs steady against the exhaustion his entire body was feeling after falling from a great height into solid masoned stone, he turned around and noticed something that surprised him a little.

The entire right side of the academy, minus the tower which was destroyed and dotting the landscape as chunks of green and white debris, was submerged under thousands of tons of dirt, mud and stone that seemed to stretch on for about a few miles in every direction as per the boundaries of the Grimm hunting organization itself as its smaller towers and portions of the castle's left side jutted out like a petrified forest of steel and emeralds.

'Gods…I get it now. An earthquake, and from the looks of it the entire campus experienced liquefaction….but how? Beacon isn't anywhere near a fault zone.' The headmaster thought to himself while a little amazed that the castle was still 'stable', despite sinking into the ground and having almost its entire foundation destroyed by seismic quakes. 'Did Salem do this? No, she isn't that powerful, especially when her pawns are in the city itself. She wouldn't get rid of them that quickly…although she has been known to alter her plans on the dime.'

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

Embers flickered across the wasteland formerly known as Beacon as Ozpin coughed from the smoke, moving away from the destroyed castle and towards the nearby cliffside, not noticing that the ground was starting to seep with water, possibly from the nearby rivers, and turned the already disturbed soil into a thick quagmire of mud.

Squish!

Globble.

Globble.

Yet as the castle behind the headmaster began to bubble and force even more portions of the castle into the ground, the man's gaze moved towards the very end of the main avenue and….saw something that made his blood freeze in his veins.

"No….it….it…can't be…." he said in horror, his eyes dilating inwards as he saw….

A massive unfathomable fissure where Vale and it's residential body of water once was, the cliffs slowly breaking apart and falling into the inky blackness along with the cascading waterfalls and broken airships, the fleet of Atlasian airships now smaller in number due to unknown reasons, possibly from a search and rescue mission elsewhere, as it floated over the ruins of Vale's capital city.

"It….It….It's…all gone…"

Crackle.

Crackle.

Crackle.

Flames licked the sides of the sinking castle as Ozpin felt…helpless, unable to do anything in wake of this tragedy, the worst in Remnant's most recent history.

"This…gods, this is…." he muttered to himself before feeling a vibration in his pants pocket and quickly pulled out his Scroll, semi cracked from the fall and occasionally glitching on and off. "Eh? A message….from Oobleck…from a few minutes ago?" 'It didn't come through…oh right the CCT Tower was destroyed.'

Zizzzzz.

'I hope it's good news, I really need it.' he thought before looking at the message and its attached image.

[Mountain Glenn Mission Failed. Final Lo-]

The gray haired man's eyes widened in realization as he stared at the image…of a dark gray and black Atlasian freight train falling into a dark abyss, its walls lined with the remnants of gray concrete as Ruby, her semblance nearly exhausted from a broken aura, was trying to use an Atlasian Paladin-290 unit as momentum to ascend upwards.

Clank!

CRACK!

Metal against hard stone finally disabled the broken Scroll as Ozpin fell to his knees, his eyes glazed over as he finally realized what happened.

Team RWBY, the pride of Beacon's future and a peaceful existence, failed in their mission to stop the pawn's plans and, somehow, created an earthquake that for all he knew….could've been prevented if he had just kept them at the academy.

He had…sent another team to their demise. He had failed again.

Memories raced through the headmaster's mind as he recalled all his past mistakes, The Circle, his own kingdom, the Great War, the Faunus Rights Revolution, the death of Summer Rose, the ecological destruction of Vauco, the fall of Mantle, Mountain Glenn's abandonment, the near extinction of the Silver Eyes, the creation of the Four Maidens and their endless suffering at his wife's hands, the corruption of the White Fang movement, the fall of the Age of Magic and….now, the complete destruction of Vale itself.

All of these mistakes…his mistakes…all the blood and death made by his actions, both good or ill, were all his doing…

All because he chose to let others make their own destiny.

It was one mission, one task. To unite humanity and make them worthy of the gods' return. It was so simple yet he squandered it.

He had access to the relics of creation, knowledge, choice and destruction.

He had magic on par with Salem and possibly more if he cut loose.

He had immortality of the soul.

He knew the secrets of the past that would drastically alter the unending battle against the Grimm.

Yet…..he chose to act in the shadows, to be nothing more than a figment of a thought in the minds of others. He could've saved the world multiple times yet he did nothing, never acting or removing himself from the gilded tower of emeralds.

All because, in his heart, he thought that humanity and the faunus could….come together in peace on their own free will.

A hopeless pipedream.

It was never about free will, not in the face of every war, conflict, wrongful death and artificial disaster that stems from the idea of 'letting others work out their problems'.

No….it will never be achieved in this way. Unity must be completed soon, before another disaster hits this ruined world, but not by the hands of others.

Peace…needed to be made in his hands alone.

Only HE can reign in the disunity.

ONLY HE CAN SAVE REMNANT!

"...ha….ha…..ha ha…." Ozpin chuckled as a smile formed across his lips, the camera panning backwards towards the sinking castle, the mud and water making the process go even faster than expected. "Ha…ha ha ha….ha….ha ha…"

Crackle.

Globble.

SQUISH!

As the mud bubbled to the surface on the right side of the castle, the left side….was a different story, for under tons of broken glass and stone were the bloody bodies of students and staff, men and women, faunus and humans, alive and deceased.

All semi buried in makeshift 'graves' as the survivors tried to claw their way out with their arms, screams of pain ringing across the campus as various students and staff, who had managed to escape the confinements of the debris, were wandering around in search of their friends, loved ones and co-workers amongst the dying.

"Ha ha ha….ha ha ha ha….ha ha ha…" cackled the headmaster's laugh as it began to grow louder and louder, soon drowning out the screams of pain and replacing it with his own manic chortle. "Ha…ha ha ha ha….ha ha ha….HA HA HA HA HA!"

As the scene faded to black, the sounds of cackling madness continued to echo across the void akin to an orchestra of laughter….to no one in particular.

"HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

Semblance(s): None.

Bio: In this timeline, during the mission in the bowels of Mountain Glenn itself, the simple task of stopping Roman Torchwick and the White Fang from using explosives to blow up Vale's defenses went from semi easy to extremely worse off than normal as Ruby Rose, Zwei and Doctor Bartholomew Oobleck were unable to defeat the stolen Atlasian Paladin-290s and Blake was unable to stop Roman Torchwick from changing the train's course, colliding with a deep pit instead of the intended concrete wall. Yet this set of bad circumstances led to something unimaginable destructive, for when the Dust lined bombs collided with the pit's bottom, the simultaneous explosions created a kinetic blast that turned Vale into a faultline, a highly unstable one that created an 11.2 scale quake that turned the capital of Remnant's most successful trading empire into a gaping fissure in a matter of seconds and severely damaging parts of Vauco, Anima, Solitas and Menagerie during the subsequent aftershocks. Almost a billion lives were lost in the 'Valeian Earthquake' as the only remaining 'safe zone' unaffected by the earthquake itself was Beacon Academy…yet this single event shattered the mind of its headmaster, Ozpin, to its core, the fact that he sent some of Beacon's finest to their doom coupled with the destructive natural disaster and his own past failings proved too much for his mind to handle. Wanting to 'fix' the Kingdom of Vale so such an event would never occur again, Ozpin decided to 'reign' in the chaos of the collapse of Vale's capital by turning Beacon's Huntsmen into a militarized state, who would do anything in their power to 'keep' the 'peace', but in reality allowed for the Huntsmen to brutalize, steal, pillage and kill anyone that fell out of line or were under suspicions of 'treason'. Grief and frustration amongst the people and Huntsmen grew over the following months, causing Ozpin, his mind unable to comprehend the fact he was now like Salem, to kill his own followers and all of Vale's survivors, leaving only his 'loyal' Huntsmen to follow him into a war against the other Kingdoms, hoping to expand his 'peace' throughout the world and finally 'unite' humans as per his original goal. Interestingly enough, following this declaration of war, Salem decided to ally with Ironwood to prevent Ozpin from spreading his notion of 'peace' through Remnant, having decided to let the past go after hearing of Ozpin's descent into madness…a mirror image to her own descent and a possible window for redemption in her eyes. Yet, in this world of broken hope, all things hang on a delicate thread…one that might be broken once again by another earthquake, another disaster waiting to happen.
