Killua and Daniel speak about their plans for the coming years. As this is all happening, as the time ticks down to the zero, to mark the end of the year and the beginnings of a new one.
A\N: Technically, another late chapter but with all things to consider… it's been a long year for poor Daniel. The boys are finally going to get the break they're in desperate need of.
After talking to Eifion, discovering new things about their circumstance, something Eifion forgot to mention and Vastorie, something Killua forgot to mention, he felt like some things were coming full circle.
He understands why Eifion failed to mention it, his memories of meeting Victor were wiped, even when he had been standing on the school grounds when it happened. At least now, they knew Victor had conditions to his Nen ability that must have been met, even when he was standing on the ground that normally, wouldn't allow him to use his ability in the first place.
He doesn't have to be near them at all, for the effects to linger. That would explain why neither one felt like they were being watched all the time. So, the question now, is how was he tracking them down…?
Only time could tell when they learn more about the man.
On the other hand, he understood why Killua forgot to mention, about his father's hidden ability. With Victor lingering in the background for long, Killua spent most of his time protecting him, trying to escape from the man's hunting grounds. Those were the only things on the boy's mind at the time.
After everything they've been through, all the disasters that have happened to them; Victor chasing them down, trapping them in a school they don't even know if they can run away from…
Daniel was glad a new year right around the corner…
He was glad that Eifion was allowing them to stay here, even with the potential dangers lurking in the shadows. The free access to underground Nen field, provided, they look after new students.
It was going to be an interesting year, working hard on improving themselves, as well as each other, and the students that would be put in their care. Daniel was buzzing with excitement, due to the fact after all this is said and done, he'd have walked in Vastorie's shoes for a bit.
It'll be interesting to see if he can surpass his father in something.
That wasn't the only thing he'll be looking forward to… experiencing a year or two of school, with his partner at his side. He never went to a school with a normal curriculum, nor had Killua or Alluka, so it'll be something new for all of them.
But the one person who is the most excited is Alluka. She'll get to experience something that was ripped from her fingertips once they learned about her rare ability. She was stripped of her social life, which was only her family up to that point…
But with Killua gone, he highly doubted anyone went down to see her, other than Milluki to wish for a new computer… He saw it as stupid at the time, but he saw Killua's whole family as being a bunch of idiots.
They put family first, but Alluka was excluded…
Killua was supposed to be the heir of the Zoldyck family…
But they wanted to take out Alluka, the one person Killua cherishes… he loves to no end. The reason Killua even began training to be an assassin. What were they hoping for, for Killua to come back after they killed her, being all hunky-dory, forgiving for what they did to the one person he loves…?
No, Killua would come back, and hunt them down, one-by-one… killing all of them, including the butlers that got in his way. Knowing how sick and twisted his family were, they'd be proud of Killua.
Although, after they're all dead, they'll be tossing and turning in their grave. Without a doubt, the boy would liquidate their estate and sell every inch of the land off, until there was nothing, but rubble left behind… with Killua, and whatever butlers that survived the ordeal left to scatter.
Killua will be the sole proprietor, the last bastion of their knowledge. There will be nothing left… after his gone.
Daniel was glad all three of them made it out alive. They'll carry on their own legacy, creating their own stories they'll one day tell to future generations. Daniel brought up his hand to Killua's cheeky, watching the colour fill the boy's cheek as he leaned forward.
The two kissed, cherishing every second that passed until eventually, it was Daniel pulling away. Killua has a story to tell him, and it might not be something he's ready to accept just yet, "Killua…?"
"Hmm…" The boy leaned forward, wanting to return to their previous actions. One second was all he'll need to claim his partner's lips once more.
"You mentioned my father has another ability…?"
Killua offered a nod, his lips moving down, to instead claim his partner's neck. He sucked on the skin, wanting to mark the boy in love bites that will be impossible to hide, to claim the boy who knows how to hold his heart the right way.
"Are you going to tell me, or continue marking my skin?"
"You know me too well…" Killua pulled away before he could do anything to render his partner a mushy mess of words, "I did promise you in Eifion's office that I'll tell you later."
"Yes, you did…"
"Where do I even begin? It's filled with twists and turns I would've never believed… but strangely now, knowing that Victor is out there… waiting for us to make a move… Well, unfortunately, I have to believe some of it."
The boy shifted his body, laying his head down in Daniel's lap, offering a smile as he covered his forehead. It's either entirely truthful, or full of twisted turns… lies… "Let's start with what Vastorie said. He believes that he's not from this world… at least, the world he perceives. For one, in his memories, lies a man that never existed here… Avlas… Avlas Zoldyck, my uncle. He apparently, brought our families together, creating this kind of… bond, one that brought you and me together… at an earlier stage… we were probably even raised as friends."
Killua shifted his gaze to meet Daniel's eyes, running his fingers through his own hair "Long story short, Avlas was a powerful man, but he died taking out Victor, which resulted in dire consequences. The man's lingering aura took my life… well, made me brain dead, to be more precise. Alluka's wish-granting ability was gone, due to my uncle's intervention… So, that was out of the picture. They probably didn't even have time to consider a Nen Exorcist powerful enough to remove the lingering effects of a Deadman. Considering you and Alluka were begging everyone to find a way to save me. So, that left your father to make the call… His ability to communicate with the dead. He requested Avlas… to take on my curse. It worked… but this timeline was fragmented. Everyone Avlas was involved with, was changed…"
"So, this ability… does it have a name, conditions to it?"
"Yes, probably… I would assume so. One's existence to grant a wish… It's not only powerful, stupidly powerful… but stupidly designed. The result was always the same from what I assumed, one life for anything you could think of. I could ask Avlas to hold me to the sky, and the result would probably be the same… But I cannot tell you why he has that ability. I can only guess…"
Daniel cupped his boyfriend's cheeks, "Why do you think he has that ability? Why do you think he's trying to remove or replace it with Sage's Archive?"
"He hated it most likely… But I think he's haunted by those he has killed. His Nen ability manifested in a way, that he'll be forced to see those he has harmed forever… including those who died through other means. That would explain why he's jaded from death… apart from him being forced to kill others. I mean, he probably saw Xavier after he died… he might even be able to gather details from ghosts without his ability forcefully activating itself. There must be other conditions that have to be met, for the ability to work. But this is all speculation. And it looks like only a few people know about this ability. Nathaniel, Netero and now us… there's a possibility that others know, but it looks like he doesn't trust Eifion with this knowledge. Or… he is hiding the truth just in case Vastorie hadn't said anything to us… So, it's all speculation…"
"So, in this… Otherworld… do you think I liked you, more than a friend?"
Killua's cheeks reddened, of course, his partner wouldn't care about Vastorie's ability… he just wanted to know if alternate Daniel wanted to suck face with alternate Killua, "I don't know… If I remember correctly, I said we were SEVEN, so probably not…"
"Alright, alright, I get it…" Daniel pouted, "But… I'm pretty sure I called you my angel when I first met you?"
"N-No! You did-DIDN'T call me at any POINT your angel, during the exam… The only time you brought it up was in your letter to me after the Chimera Ants incident."
"Oh yeah… about that." Daniel fell quiet. He has forgotten to mention he brought it up with Illumi, and Gon's also aware of it.
"What… did you do?"
"Don't murder me… But I may, or may have not said something to Illumi…" Killua's eyes narrowed slightly, daring him to tell him, "To tell you the truth… I called you my angel, to Illumi's face. It popped into my head mid-sentence, so… I had previously thought about it."
Killua's cheeks burned at the revelation. His whole family had to know by now, that Daniel has called him an angel. Illumi would've said something to them… to be wary of his now current partner… it could explain why his father wanted to distance the two of them. He wanted an opportunity to get rid of a growing problem…
To remove Daniel from the equation, the problem was he had already fallen for Daniel by then, doing so would've had dire consequences "Cheesy Baka, I'd slap you for saying that…" If I wasn't so in love with you…
Daniel smiled, "I saw the twinkle in your eyes. You thought of something nice involving me…"
"Did NOT! This discussion is over… now tell me how you feel-" When he saw Daniel about to open his mouth, he directed the conversation, "about knowing your father screwing over our life, mainly Alluka's and mine, considering we would've been in the best situation… just so he could save me from Victor's ability?"
"Well… for one, I think that's where a huge chunk of his guilt comes from. Undoing everything your Uncle got right… but, I'm also relieved. Maybe somewhere, in some alternate timeline, you'd wake up and our lives continued… with Avlas still being remembered. It'll be nice… knowing that we would've continued to have a friendship, maybe even a relationship later in life… without worrying about Victor breathing down our neck. It'll be… nice, you know…"
"Of course, your mind would linger there."
"Wouldn't you want that… to still have a family that cares about you?"
"The moment Avlas died, my dad would've taken over by default… and our lives would've turned to shit anyways."
"I'd like to think that version of Vastorie would've cared about you… to fight tooth and nail, just so you could have a normal life."
"Sorry, I'm a prodigy… don't see it happening."
"Don't be a pessimist…"
"I'm thinking realistically… my dad wouldn't glace over the fact I would've shown signs of being the next-in-line. He would've thrust me into training the first moment he got, but I guarantee, I would've whined the whole way through, and Alluka would've still not been locked up for what she can do… Although, they'll probably lock her up if I didn't do what my parents would tell me to do… possibly even limiting our interactions."
"Good to know that your family would still be 'dicks' over in that world too…"
"As I said, I know my parents… they won't glance over any of us… for any reason…"
"Then… do you think the first chance we got, I would've attempted to run away with you and Alluka…"
Killua flicked his eyes to meet Daniel's, "Yes… I believe so… You'd be stubborn like that, and I think Vastorie or even Nathaniel would've helped save Alluka and myself from my family's clutches…"
"You think you would've fallen in love with me then…" The boy leaned over, inches away from kissing his partner.
Killua's voice hitched in his throat, his partner's lips ghosting his. Before they sealed their affection, the boy muttered the words Daniel would've loved to hear "Yes…"
Drawn into a kiss, Killua flipped his partner over so the boy was now sitting on his lap, forced to gyrate against the spot that made Killua groan with relief. Killua then moved once more, sitting upright as he placed a thumb on his partner's chin, holding the boy's gaze in place for himself to claim once more "Yes…" I would've wanted you, the moment you held my heart like you do now…
With a kiss, Daniel held Killua by his waist, pulling his partner closer to himself.
"~"
Clarisa, Kiel, Daniel, Killua and Alluka sat outside, the TV running on the inside, with the news only talking about the end of the year. Nothing else mattered right now, but the clock ticking down to zero, to signify the end of a year, and the beginnings of another full of twists and turns waiting to be discovered.
They made small talk with one another throughout their dinner, talking about mainly what they wanted to do next year.
Daniel was happy Clarisa wasn't saying anything to Killua; that she was treating him with a sense of humanity. There were moments when she froze up, but those were few and far between.
They had a nice dinner, with Daniel taking care of the snacks for afterwards. He mainly made a batch of cookies, several flavours just in case.
But now they were out here on the porch, sitting under the starry sky, he could reminisce about what happened those past few years "So, Killua… remember Greed Island?"
Clarisa stopped her laughter. She wanted to hear about what Killua and Daniel did on Greed Island… what they did under a Starry night sky like this one, "Oh, what did you do? I sense a little romanticism here…"
"We didn't do much…" Killua feinted ignorance, "just dance…"
"Like what you did at the Christmas party?"
Daniel shook his head, "No, nothing like that… it was more of a slow steady dance. It was a few weeks after I confessed my feeling to him."
"You mean after you took my first kiss."
"Aww…"
"It was anything but aww…" Killua declared bluntly, "I said somebody else's name. I destroy all the romantic tension."
"So, you did like Gon…"
"Like I said, for a time… But like I also said, selfish lover… speaking of selfish, where is she?"
"Locked up in her room… she doesn't like celebrations. I'm glad we came, you cooked delicious foods. Kudos to the chef."
"Well…" Killua awkwardly ran his fingers through his hair, acting shy, "Your brother preferred the dessert."
"And I'm thankful…" Kiel patting his stomach with a smile. He broke out into laughter once he realised how ridiculous he looked while doing so.
The others joined in, this time Clarisa continuing the conversation "I think I believe you now… She apologised for how she treated me…"
"How about us…?"
"Yeah, nah… unfortunately, you have to work for that… sorry. I wish you luck though."
Killua faked his disgust at the news, "What a pain…" Although, soon after he showed a smile, a wicked one at that "I'm not going to give up… I've dealt with stubbornness far worse than hers over the last two years. Gon… and Daniel…"
"My stubbornness was not only me wanting to get along with you, but it was also to learn more about you… I'd hardly call that stubbornness."
"Did you forget how hard you were crushing on me…" Turned to his partner, offering a genuine smile in response to his boyfriend's words.
"Can't deny that… Though Gon was far worse."
"Oh yeah, he wanted both of us, Sakura and now Iason…" Killua argued, exasperated at the thought of Gon selfishly wanted the four of them… their friend was selfish. But as soon as Gon wants Alluka, it's all over. Nuh-ah. He isn't going to be in a relationship with his best friend, while the boy dates his sister. That's a terrible disaster waiting to happen "Gon wants his own, harem… so far, it's filled with only guys… but give it enough time, maybe a girl or two would join as well… Gon has dated a girl in the past…"
"Oh, did he now…?" Clarisa offered a sly smirk, "Was she cute…? Did she like Sakura, or was this before he was dating Sakura?"
"If only you knew…"
"Knew what…" The girl raised an eyebrow.
"To put it bluntly…" Killua started, but Daniel finished his statement, "She was twice his age. And she kind of forced it on poor innocent Gon."
"Oh god… she didn't do anything to him, did she?"
"No…"
"You know this how?"
Daniel rolled his eyes, "We were supposed to be having a date of our own, but instead we ended up stalking theirs."
"Gon certainly knows how to destroy a cougar's heart… He told her about Sakura, and most likely… wanted the two of them to get along."
"That's when it ended badly…"
Killua nodded, "We found Gon back at our hotel, Gon on the floor writing hundreds of apologies for dumping her."
"He didn't dump her… he was just focused on something else at the time."
"Which is…?" What on earth is going on? Gon was dating someone twice his age, and he was considering getting into a three-way relationship with this older lady and Sakura? "I'm going to need a little more information here. Gon was considering… dating someone twice his age?"
"To be fair…" Daniel was about to argue in Palm's favour, but Killua stopped him, "There was nothing fair about the whole situation. She was holding him at knifepoint."
"Knifepoint?" Who is this older lady?
"Well… we're still friends with Palm, she learned from her mistake the hard way."
"I wouldn't want to be friends with someone like that…"
Daniel nodded in understanding, "But on one of our missions, she helped look after all of us. So, she was kind of needed. She had the perfect skill set for doing so…"
"Mission, like for…?" Clarisa pointed at Killua.
"Kind of… but there were multiple people to deal with; Gon, Daniel and myself had to deal with… a person, which I can't say any more about without dropping hints what Daniel and I do."
"Alright…" Clarisa backed off. She knew when to quit while she's ahead. It could relate to Killua's past profession. She didn't want to subject Kiel to that kind of information… at least, not until Killua thought Kiel was ready to hear it.
Daniel decided to continue their earlier topic, to fill in the silence and waiting time, "About Sakura… He strikes me as the kind of guy to wear a miniskirt for his partner. Or… I would argue that could make him a cross-dresser, BUT I'd put him more on the spectrum of non-binary."
Alluka's eyes lit up, "Wait, you think…" the girl silenced herself, once she realised, she was about to out herself. She didn't know how Clarisa would react, let alone Kiel to the fact she's Trans. She wasn't sure how many people would react to the news…
Killua has always introduced her as his sister; she wants to keep it that way.
Daniel however caught onto the question. He'd answer the sister without bringing light to the fact she was trans "Sakura, he's intersex. Although, I can't tell you what kind his body leans more towards… But what I can tell you is he identifies as male but ok with wearing skirts, maybe even dresses… I can't remember if I've seen him in a dress. But, as I said… he's unashamed of wearing feminine clothing…"
Clarisa stepped into the conversation, "He should be proud that he can rock it without a care in the world. Not many people could flip between articles of clothing without one type looking weird on them. I know I look terrible in overside hoodies… I look like a slob that didn't know how to dress. But it's comfy when you're being lazy… Madeline makes fun of me though… Mainly because my hair looks ridiculous."
"Dudes would probably like that in you…"
"I'm hoping girls too. I don't want to look pretty twenty-four for people. I want to have my lazy days too…" The girl laughed at her own, response.
Alluka's eyes gleamed with excitement. She sounds identical to Gon, in terms of who he was attracted to, "You must be like Gon, Polysexual."
"No, more Bisexual, if anything… I'm attracted to guys and girls, who have either feminine or masculine features. I don't think I'd be attracted to Sakura… Androgynous features throw my brain off. It'll be constantly screaming; he looks better in a dress than you do…"
"Says the girl who said she dresses like a slob…" Daniel spoke up with a sly smile.
"I pride myself on my laziness. But, to be honest, I'm attracted to more feminine features. So, guys with softer features… Like ice, I melt…"
"You should see Daniel from behind with his hair down."
"Please don't remind me of the constant mistakes. I rather stick to the program of tying my hair up… also because you believe it makes me look cuter."
Killua sputtered as he was taking a sip, caught off-guard by Daniel's forwardness.
"You two are unbelievably adorable together…"
Killua's cheeks reddened. He chose to outright ignore the comment. He'd rather move on, then subject himself to this kind of torture "You said Madeline forgave you. Did you tell her you were coming here?"
"Yes, she gave me a nasty look… She did not like that at all. It'll take time, but I think she'll eventually get over the fact I can be friends with you. I think it'll also help if she got to know you better… open herself more to…"
"Building friendships like my father was asking her to do…" Daniel sipped on his hot chocolate, courtesy of Killua's touch. It's not as good as Vastorie, but sipping it did make him feel warm and mushy on the inside.
Clarisa shifted her attention to the sky "Yeah… I believe so… I hope she breaks out of that hard shell she created for herself. I want her…" The words got lost in the girl's throat. She didn't exactly know what she wanted for her friend. Happiness… or what Killua and Daniel had.
Seeing how the two treated each other, reminiscing over the good, the bad… and the fun times they had…
Did she crave that with Madeline as friendship or more? Her feelings were perplexed on the matter.
"Or what?" Kiel pointed out after a long pause. What was his sister looking for?
Clarisa ruffled her brother's hair before pulling him in for a side hug. Kissing his forehead once, her eyes now lingering on the night sky, "I don't know…"
Daniel and Killua gave each other a knowing look. That expression, her words dictated she doesn't know what she wants to have with Madeline…
Friendship…
Or more…
They could push it, but that wouldn't lead to the right outcome. It needs to come for her, what she's ultimately looking for… and what Madelyn decide in the end. Pointing out that Clarisa may have feelings for Madelyn could ultimately poison the well. She might follow the advice, and later… they could destroy a budding friendship.
Daniel shifted the discussion, "Find out what the two of you want. It's the only advice I can give…"
"What I want…?"
"And what she wants…" Daniel added with a smile.
"Do you think she wants a friend?"
Daniel offered a shrug, "I don't know her desires… only that she shows signs, that she confides in your presence. So, push for answers only when you feel like you can get them."
"I'll try…"
Five more minutes until the end of the year…
Daniel pulled out his phone, the clock indeed at 5 minutes to midnight, he decided to push the conversation in a more opportunistic route, "This could be your new year resolution, on top of what you want to do in life… Killua and I don't have a set goal, but you could…"
"Yeah, maybe when I'm older… I'm thirteen, not thirty with no goals… I need a few more years to think about my end goal."
"Mine's marrying Killua…" The boy whose name was just mentioned, choked on his drink, but Daniel wasn't finished yet. The boy rubbed his partner's back, continuing the conversation, rather than checking to see if his boyfriend was ok. He knew the boy was ok, but his feelings needed to be stated while the boy was distracted, "I wanna do it in front of his family. The whole, on one knee… the proposal. Watching Killua say yes… while in the background his whole family looks like they want to murder me. I'd say sounds like a great plan…"
After Killua had regained his composure, he frowned at his boyfriend. The boy needed to address the dangers of the situation "No way in hell am I letting you do that. My family will kill you…"
"I'd like to see them try…"
"No! If you're going to spit in their face. We do it the right way…"
Daniel raised an eyebrow, "The right way? As in traditional or something…?"
"Yes. We get the traditional marriage through the country… BUT, if we can pull it off… we do the ritual as well. You see, my family is bounded in blood, to each other… so to speak. No matter how much they hate each other later in life, the rules dictate they can't break up… unless both are prepared to break the contract in marriage…"
"You mean…?"
Killua gave a nod, sure that his partner understood what he was going to say, without having to say it. The only way his parents could break their marriage… is to kill the other. That was the Zoldyck way…
They marry each other to the death… and break, only through death.
Kiel and Clarisa blinked in confusion, left only to try and guess what the boys knew, that they don't know.
"So, you want us to… do the ritual marriage as well? Do you know it…?"
"Yeah, but I'm not saying squat until we're older. One of the conditions is you have to submit yourself to me…"
"Oh…"
Kiel was about to speak up, but Sakura hushed her brother "It's not something we should talk about until after you're older. Both you and Alluka… However, rules apply to you Killua, and Daniel too…"
"Which is why I'm saying nothing. Not until we're older…" Killua gave his partner a sly smile.
They heard the cheers from inside, followed by the number 30.
"It's almost time…" Clarisa hummed, standing up as she put Kiel up on her shoulders. Killua did the same for Alluka, now looking out towards where Clarisa was now pointing. It was in the middle of the school, where the shopping complex was located.

Happy New Year!
There was a delay, about five seconds before the first firework soared into the sky, lit up by whoever set it up. Many more rose to the sky, each exploding in different colours and styles.
Alluka's eyes beamed with amazement, lost for words with what was happening. She never got to experience a New Year celebration, at least, not one she could remember. This one she will… this one, she'll cherish.
Daniel tilted his head slightly, smiling at the boy who was more beautiful than the fireworks. He leaned into his partner's gaze, turning the boy's head slightly with his free hand so he could see him too.
The two interlocked lips, sharing a short kiss that made Killua visible react into the touch.
When he pulled away from his partner, Killua smiled at the loving gaze being directed at him, as the words "Happy New Year" were being uttered to him.
"Happy New Year…" Killua repeated the words to his partner, happy to receive what he secretly craved the most. He knows Daniel won't push it any more than what he's willing to get away with, but he won't deny that deep down, he does crave for more.
That was until he heard the words from behind him, "Happy New Year guys."
Killua gave Clarisa and Kiel a nod in response, a notification popping on his and Daniel's phone at the same time. It was a message from Gon, a picture of the five of them together at the world tree, along with the caption: Happy New Year my Best-friends forever.
Then the second picture popped up, Gon pulling Iason into a kiss. Killua shook his head in shame, only to now receive a third, fourth and fifth picture soon after.
The third was of Gon kissing Sakura…
The fourth was Sakura kissing Iason…
The fifth was a selfie of Gon and his two partner's blushing in the background, the phone tilting at an odd angle. Of course, trust Gon to send pictures of him making out with his partners, first, before sending a selfie of the three of them…
Although, he cannot help but smile at the situation. Gon has found someone he cares for, and while that will make Killua feel a little bit jealous, he has someone too… two people, he cherishes as well. But he's not about to kiss Alluka on the forehead or make out with Daniel, before taking a photo.
But what he did do was usher Daniel to come in closer. The three of them took a photo, Killua sending off the photo with the caption.
We miss you too…
He signed off with something he knows Gon will cherish, possibly even frame one day.
Best friend forever… Sending it off, he'll worry about the consequences later. Who cares if his family intercepts the message later? It was just an innocent photo…
But now with the photos saved on his phone, he pulled up the last one to show it to Clarisa "So the spiky-haired boy would be Gon."
"He's a cutie…" Clarisa hummed as she looked at the other two. That boy on the left, he looked unbelievably beautiful. That had to have been Sakura, which meant the one on the right, had to be Iason "So, the one on the left is Sakura, correct?"
"Yup, Iason on the right…"
"Damn… I regret saying he's no my type. He's definitely, my type…"
"Sorry, but he's taken… you'll have to earn Gon and Iason's affection to if you want that."
"Nah, I can't… I can't be with more than one person, let alone three…."
Killua chuckled, although he agrees as well. He can't do it… he can't split his feelings, like, Gon can.
Daniel picked up his drink, offering it as a cheer "To another year!"
"To another year!" The others agreed, now smiling at each other at various degrees.
Clarisa's smile, however, grew when she saw her message. She was half expecting it to be from the institution. But instead, he was from her roommate, wishing her and Kiel a 'happy new year' and 'see you next year'.
Clarisa frowned, until another message came through, clarifying next year as meaning this year.
In the end, the girl had thought about her too. Another year, and another opportunity to get to know you…
