They never expected to meet the other man that knows about them, but there he is… behind Isaac, a smile, and a simple wish… to get to know them better.
A\N: I hope this helps explain Vastorie's ability. I tweaked it a little to include more information, as well as cover the consequences of using it.
Banshee's Call
Info:
Banshee's Call summons the dead as ghostly figures which he can commune with. It is the original ability Vastorie was born with, and due to his fears, he's trying to use Sage's Archive to one day, hopefully, replace Banshee's Call.
There are two ways Banshee's call will work, passively and through summoning.
Main Pros:
· He can continue to talk with the ones he loves, even after death.
Main Cons:
· It is not an ability that can be turned on and off, he is constantly haunted by dead people.
· Calling on the dead to live once more, sets off dire consequences. No matter how small or drastic the request is, the cost is always the same, the ghost's existence.
Passively – Due to the circumstances of the ability, the stronger the feelings of those surrounding him have to someone, it becomes easier to see the outline of those they care about. If he doesn't know who they are, they appear like ghostly shadows, whose thoughts are only as strong as what they are considered to them.
E.g. Uvogin appeared beside Chrollo, but all Vastorie could hear was Danchou.
Summoning – A ghost needs a physical body, as well as a name for Vastorie to call out. When the ghost occupies a body, everyone but the person being possessed, suffers from a world reset once the ghost has fulfilled a request.
However, if the ghost refuses to fulfill a request, he can leave the host's body without the consequences being triggered.
Once a request is fulfilled, the person being possessed remembers the world before the ghost possessed them. However, bringing up the ghost's name tends to make the host look crazy as he's the only one who remembers the previous events.
Once the ghost has fulfilled the request and moves on from the plain of existence, the slate is wiped clean as though the ghost was never born. Vastorie can no longer communicate with the ghost, nor does he remember completing the task, unless, he was the one being possessed.
The only things that exist after the possession, are what the host created for them: photos, provided, that it was taken by them, paintings, music as well as anything physical the person created for the ghost.
E.G – Avalos Zoldyck, an old time best-friend of Vastorie Darkscryer died at the hands of his father, Rushifā. Vastorie summoned him as a ghost to take on the curse afflicted on Killua which left the boy in endless state of sleep.
Once the curse was passed on, because Vastorie was the one being possessed at the time, he was the only one who remembered about the man. His loss left Vastorie in a state of distress, seeking out all physical evidence of the man's existence, only to find out the one physical proof, was of a painting he once drew.
He keeps the photo in a safe, but due to methods of obtaining the painting, he destroyed the only hope of reuniting the families like Avalos achieved. When Silva asked Vastorie who the man in the photo was, with a dead expression, the man could only say "Someone I wish I never met."
Vastorie sees his death, and the man's cease of existence as his fault. It haunts him to this day, and it's why Vastorie refuses to paint anymore. It's also the reason why he's attempting to remove the ability, even if it's by replacing it with another more useless ability…
Today was the boy's appointment with Isaac, Thursday afternoon. The problem was he's late. They don't mind tardiness, but the room is only registered for four hours, and given that they know he's a slow learner, they might not be able to go through everything.
As a teacher, Daniel would rather get a feel of his students, try to figure out their strengths and flaws, then move them along a path the student can work with. His father was similar, although quite challenging, to deal with at times.
Yes, he beat the living shit out of them during their first lesson…
But he managed to find and isolate a weakness, then give them a tip on how or where they can improve. With Killua, it was more of a visualization approach, to imagine that he's a battery that's storing the electrical charges he releases during his ability.
Now, Daniel understands the more risks one needs to take, the stronger the Hatsu is. But at the same time… he sees why his father suggested that approach. It would be better if Killua becomes a hybrid of the two.
The feeling, the physical approach to having live electricity flowing through his body… his partner can discharge that, release it on an unsuspecting victim. It'll be painful for the average person to experience it.
But the visual aspect, imagining false electricity flowing through his nerves, using that imagery to trigger Godspeed, will allow Killua to use the live electricity as both defensive and attacking options.
Killua already knows what it's like to be electrocuted… he knows what it's like to feel millions of volts flowing through his body. Surely, he wouldn't need to feel the discharge on himself every time he activates Godspeed…
It'll be a waste of what he has stored in his body.
His father offered a similar tip to him, to imagine willing his shadows, rather than jerky movements, gestures to control the path they attack. Yes, imagining his shadows living replicas of his exact physical strength was a bad move on his part…
It opens him up to relying on actual strength as a catalyst for his power. But with a little imagery, and practising Shu, he could will his shadow into the image, then apply Shu to reinforce it.
Hisoka can turn cards into sharp knives, Daniel has managed to replicate Hisoka's skill… the only difference between his and Hisoka's ability, the man could make his cards extra deadly. By attaching gum to the card, then to the enemy's body, he can turn the cards into homing missiles.
All he needs to do is forced the stretched gum to retract, and they're in for a painful time.
Daniel can't do anything like that. But what he can do, is with a bit of imagery, make his shadow flicker in an out of existence like there's a constant light source nearby. Fool the person into thinking they've gone invisible, only to be then struck from the shadows, by his shadows.
It'll be a win-win situation.
It's just imagining how to pull it off will be difficult, considering he sucks at Zetsu, and In is just, an advanced form of Zetsu. Also, it doesn't help that In is effective when it comes to conjuration Nen abilities, not physical objects that exist in reality.
His shadow exists, therefore trying to hide it would be impossible with In. He needed to think more on the topic if he was going to pull this off.
Loud steps echoed in the open hall, the boys looking up as they see a kid around their age running towards them. They thought the boy was going to be alone, but there was another person. Didn't Eifion say he'd be too busy to sit in on this lesson?
But there was another behind the kid, a man. The man could be the kid's old teacher, coming to give him tips. Did Eifion forget to mention that they'll be having another person help out?
The boys wouldn't put it past them, he was kind of forgetful at times…
Like, the second day they were here. He ended up telling Clarisa, or most likely Kiel what time he was coming over to see them.
He was running a whole school, so he had some leeway to be forgetful. But then again, having an extra person sitting in wouldn't affect them. They were here to find out what Isaac can do, regardless of whether a teacher was watching them.
Isaac stopped near the boys, panting heavily. He took in a deep lungful of air before looking up at them with a smile, "Sorry I'm late."
"No problems," Daniel offered a smile in return, "I see you brought someone else."
"Oh," Isaac looked behind himself, "this is Luca Rathenau, he's a professor here at this school."
"I'm also a close friend of Eifion…" The man gave the boys a smile along with a quick wave. He was here for a reason, to learn more about the boys; he was going to learn while they were busy, to see how they work as a unit… as well as Nen teachers.
Shifting his weight, he stepped towards the boys with his hand extended for a shake, "So, don't mind me being here. I'm mainly here to observe and learn from you guys as well as ask you some questions… nothing too invasive."
"Right…" Daniel shook the man's hand. He honestly didn't mind; they were a teacher. Considering the man was also Eifion's friend, he was probably making sure that things run smoothly during the new transition, on behalf of the Deacon.
Killua raised an eyebrow, looking the man up and down, once, before shaking his hand. Something seemed off about the situation. If he was the Deacon's friend, exactly how close are they. He knows that Eifion told Luca about his real past, that the man wouldn't do anything to put them on blast…
But that doesn't mean he'd idly stand by as Killua and Daniel walk the hallways without a watchful eye. The man could be here for physical or verbal proof that they mean no harm, and wish only to help.
Daniel was willing to help, so the man should easily see it in his partner…
But Killua was mainly here for the assistance, to help Daniel achieve his goal to help others. He was also here to help train not only himself but his partner as well. They wanted to help each other…
Luca would have to witness that…
Daniel took a step toward Isaac, eyeing the boy up and down as he offered a smile, "Let's see what you can do."
As Isaac smiled in response, he furiously nods his head "Sure!"
Luca walked behind the three boys, using the one privilege he has that the students do not. He brought a chair from the storage void, a room locked away from everyone but the faculty members.
Although, he wouldn't exactly say it was conjured from thin air… to others, it may seem like that way. There was a room hidden underground they keep the stuff in, stuff they can pull out at any time to help with training. They can permit some students to access some of the items as they need it.
On the off chance they do not have an item that fulfils their request, they can try to get a special-order in.
However, any items they request or use is restricted to this section of the building. Also, they must abide by the rules that it's something the students absolutely, needs to help them train.
So, when Luca turned the seat, he sat down, leaning over the back of the chair, while still facing the others as he waited for their next move. A move Isaac seemed happy to complete. So far, so good… he has no complaints.
Once the training is underway, he'll make small talk with the boys, at least with the one that wasn't busy.
Isaac beamed widely, extending his hands in preparation for what needed to be done. He stopped out of confusion, wondering what exactly was he supposed to be doing. Were they going to focus on Ten or Ren? Did he need to perform both?
Luca sat up straight as he watched the kid flounder, visibly stressed.
Daniel held up a hand, calling Isaac's attention to himself, "We'll start simple, see what you can do. Then, I'll tell you directions on how you improve, until we find a method that incurs a steady improvement. Let's see what you can do with Ten first."
The boy in question offered a nod, closing his eyes as he focused on his aura.
Daniel watched the boy's aura jerk to life, already wavering as the flow flickered in and out of existence. His lack of attention showed even in his training, "Keep it up until I tell you to stop…"
It was indeed stronger than say, Madelyn's… but he didn't maintain its strength as she could. The chest, arms and legs were strong, but the moment the aura smoothed over the joints, it would waver, appear weaker…
The boy wasn't ready for sparring, let alone Ren. But he could test a theory out. If the boy released his aura, would it make up for his weakness, or amplify the issue. Daniel brought a hand to his chin, looking over the boy beginning to sweat.
Doesn't look like he can maintain it for long periods … where did the boy's mind linger, when he should be focused on the aura swirling around him, "Ok, stop."
The boy stopped, opening his eyes once more, smiling widely as if he were impressed with himself.
Daniel kept his expression neutral, just in case, he betrayed his internal thoughts, "let's see your Ren now, same rules as last time. Don't stop until I say so…"
Luca spoke up, keeping the conversation between himself and Killua, "So, Kyle…" The man allowed his aura to drift, keeping his En field at a distance, between himself and the boy. He may have no Hatsus, but if there's one thing he picked up, it was Eifion's ability to read emotions.
He gets a general idea, nothing that can help him pinpoint the exact trigger… but he can at least try to understand it through trial and error, "How long have you two been seeing each other?"
"Friends for about two years, dating for about half a year."
Precise and to the point… almost dismissive, at least in terms wanting to be probed further… I believe "You seem… so close."
Killua turned to face the man, "We are… he was my-" Killua raised an eyebrow as he looked at the man's chair, the way he was leaning over it.
"Oh this, it's a perk of being a faculty member. We have access to a storage department that keeps these things for us to access whenever we need."
"Will we get access to it?"
"Up to Eifion. You can ask him…"
"Ok…" Killua looked back towards Daniel, "I know you're using En by the way. What's your end goal?"
"Nothing too serious… just to learn more about you two."
Killua remained silent, which only made Luca repeat his earlier statement, "You two are close."
"Well… we are boyfriends."
Luca quirked his lips into a small smile. I sensed a little shyness there… wonder why… "That is true, but six months is awfully short, at least when compared to how close you two are acting right now…"
"No, I didn't manipulate Daniel, if that's what your hinting at."
Anger, frustration… "None of that sort. More curious if anything…"
"You can stop. Hey Killua," Daniel looked over to Killua the boy now raising an eyebrow in confusion.
What exactly did his partner want? "Yeah…?"
"A little assist here…"
Killua rolled his eyes. There was no way Daniel needed assistance here, he was pretty good at understanding, coming up with methods to help him improve situations like these. Nonetheless, he walked towards his partner "Sure, shoot."
"He lacks attention to detail. Where his aura meets his joints, it's weaker, so when he releases Ren, it puts a heavier strain on the said joint. Wanna take over?"
Killua rolled his eyes, he was sure Daniel had a reason for tagging him in, but this wasn't the best reason. However, he'd gladly take over for his partner. At least he'd get away from Luca's prying questions for the moment.
Killua stepped up to Isaac, "Ok, show me your Ten for a moment. I wanna see what Daniel is talking about."
"Alright…"
As the boy released his aura, Killua focused on the boy's joints. Picking up the boy's arm, the teen blushed as he looked flabbergasted from the teacher's actions, "Wh- What?"
"Wh- Why are you blushing?" Killua found himself blushing in response; he wasn't expecting that to happen. He quickly coughed, letting go of the boy's hand as he tried to recover the training session "I was trying to point out where you were making the mistake." Killua instead pointed at his own, arm "What you're doing is focusing on individual body parts, rather than, your whole body. With Ten, it's all about swirling aura around your whole body, from your toes to your head, always circulating the flow. Do it again, but this time, imagine it as a whirlwind approach, circling your body constantly."
As Killua took over for him, Daniel stepped up towards the man, "Please don't upset my boyfriend."
"I wasn't trying to… but… How could you tell, when you had your back turned?"
Daniel gestured to the string of aura, "I can sometimes feel his emotions, like a tug. But it's not always the case, there have been times when I don't feel anything at all…"
"That's… curious…" Eifion looked the kid up and down, he was quick to defend his partner, but only harboured neutral feelings on the matter. What he did have, was a sense of pure feelings for Killua, at least when he was talking about the boy. It doesn't feel like a sense of Stockholm Syndrome, "What's your feelings towards Kyle?"
"I love him… with all my heart. He craves those feelings, because all his life, he missed out on them. I'm the first person, besides his sister, who's ever made him appreciate these things… Yes, Gon helped me to express some of these things for Kyle, but I don't do it because of who he is, but rather… what he means to me…"
Very strong feelings for Killua… I can't sense any form of control. Eifion was right, I was worrying about nothing… "I see… but as soon as I heard-"
"If there's one thing I've learned in the last year, the reason we are as we are… is not because of our parents or our heritage, but the actions we make, the things we do that define us as who we are…"
"A very philosophical approach… at such a young age… you've heard and seen things… haven't you?"
"Many…"
"Then, what words would you use to define Kyle?"
"Strong, independent… caring… affectionate…"
Luca cut into the conversation, "affectionate? You show signs of mixed feelings on that word, why?"
"Because sometimes…" Daniel looked away, focusing only on Killua still helping the boy "I feel like I can't give him what he wants…"
"He shouldn't push yourself to-"
"No, I'm not talking about that… I mean… sure, to an extent. But he always asks beforehand, and he will stop if it becomes unbearable for me."
"Still, you're both young, so you shouldn't be putting each other in that position…"
"I want… to make him happy. He understands that, and he'd never, push me to do something I don't want to do…"
Trust… Understanding… I don't feel like he's under any control, even a suppress Nen effect. But he believes in his own words, and his feelings are genuine. I was wrong… Eifion is right… "I understand. How else would you describe the boy?"
"Well, I would say he's beautiful… he has an ungodly need for chocolate…" The man chuckled, "but the one thing I really, admire about him… Is no matter what he has gone through, he was willing to stand up to everyone, for the one person he wanted to make happy…"
"You…?"
Daniel shook his head before turning to face Luca once more, "His sister…"
"So, he cares more about his sister than you?"
Daniel rolled his eyes, "He cares about us equally. But, let's say you were in his position. Would you threaten your father and mother? Would you dare stand up to your whole family, with only your partner at your side… even going as far to bring them into a room they shouldn't be in…?"
"Me, personally… I wouldn't even bring them at all. But I have a gut feeling you haven't told me the full story."
"You're right… but I'd never give you the whole story. I wanted to be there for Kyle… so he was stuck with me. His sister didn't like me at first, because she thought I wanted to steal him from her."
"Did you…?"
"No, I didn't… I shared some of the love I gave Kyle, with his sister, and treated her as though she was my own, sister. She got to meet my fathers, both… even experiencing a little bit of a happy, with a somewhat normal family who cares about their children's happiness."
"I assume you're talking about Nathaniel."
"Yup, Audrey loves him…"
Luca looked down at the floor, deep in thought. It was a while before he spoke up, "Listen… I'm sorry for probing into your story. After I heard about… Kyle's backstory, I was worried about not just you, but Eifion as well. Ever since you three have come here, his stress levels have gone through the roof."
Daniel bit his lip as he looked away, "We're sorry for pushing this on him. We shouldn't have-"
"It's ok, I don't consider you as the problem. It's… you-know-who is the problem."
"Right…"
"you're welcome to stay at this school. I'll try to rally up the teachers and get them to force Eifion to split up his workload. He really, needs to-"
"What does Eifion mean to you?"
"He's a close friend, why?"
Daniel looked at the man in the eyes, trying to do what Luca was doing to him. But the man's expression was guarded. He was hiding what Eifion meant to him. The boy turned away "Never mind… I'm curious about how you were reading me. You said: You show signs of mixed feelings on that word, why? When I said 'affectionate'… is it a Hatsu?"
"No, En… I don't have a specific Hatsu. Most teachers don't have one… However, if I don't include you two, from what I hear… only three out of the ten Nen teachers, have a Hatsu."
"Only three? That seems… problematic."
"Not at all… students can't use Nen, except for in here. Only the teachers that have a tag, can use Nen freely. You see, the Deacon designed this school, to favour freedom up to a limit, once someone tries to break the threshold, this school turns on them. He can evict or restrain the students from accessing their aura."
"Can any of the kids get one of the special tags? If so, are they like the ones teachers have access to?"
"No, it's assigned to only teachers. You were one of the rare few exceptions to ever receive one. I still don't understand why Eifion gave you one though…"
"All I wanted to do was catch Kyle mid-fall, hence why I gave the tag back to him right after the catch. It's also, why I never used my aura for the during the other time I was wearing it."
"I see… you just needed it for a specific moment." Luca's eyes glanced over to Killua, watching him intently as he continued to talk to Isaac. The student's eyes gleamed from the knowledge being laid on him, getting more excited with every passing second.
Killua was a great teacher, and here he was, judging the boy before he even talked to him properly, "I owe you two a serious apology. I treated Kyle poorly, which, again… I rather deeply apologise to him myself, then expect you to carry on my apology to him. But I see that both of you could become a great teacher in the long run… you just need more experience in the outside world, as well as hands-on experience. Besides the other ten teachers, come and approach either myself or Eifion for tips… whether that be with teaching or for you to learn more for your training…"
Daniel smiled widely, "In that case… can you teach me what you do?"
"The reading emotions?"
"Yes…"
"I can't teach it… it took years of practice for me. And even then, I still haven't perfected it. But if I were going to offer advice… it's more about memory. Focus on their aura, their gestures, and their posture. Not everyone will be the same, but there can be similarities between people, especially, with things like gestures. Whether that be an awkward wave to signify uncomfortableness to a frown for sadness…"
"You'd hate to meet Kyle's older brother…" Daniel flashed a smirk, "he's the master of resting bitch face."
"Daniel…" the man chastised with his arms crossed, but given the delivery, it was hard to maintain his stoic figure, to hide the bubbling laughter he was trying to keep down.
"Daniel, lets switch…"
Daniel jogged up to Killua, tagging his partner in as he took over, "Show me what you can do now."
As the boy watched Isaac, Killua stepped up to Luca, his arms cross, "You two talked for a lot."
"We did… and I wanted to apologise for how I was treating you. The sins of our family do not define us…"
Killua hummed in response, a small smile breaking out as he looked towards Daniel, "Give Isaac a month, and he should be at a good standard."
"That's good… I hope you two gain something from this."
"I think Daniel will gain something from this…" Killua turned to flash Luca a smile. From you…
